Hi Irene, hello one and all. Looking forward to three hours of choice music.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Irene, forgot to ask, was The Monty Python show fun, it was on at my multiplex but unfortunately couldn't make it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Everybody! Thanks for asking, Sean. The Monty Python show was Fabulous! More "Broadway" than the TV show, but a good mix of new, old faves, song&dance. I had a good glow afterwards.

A peek at Irene's own tchotchke cabinet?

Hi, everyone!
  12:13pm wzerczc:

this set of music reminds me of fall.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Nice to hear David Byrne's dulcet tones, hey Kat, Common, Bob and Claw
Avatar 🥁 12:16pm KP:

Finally got Wfmu to play through the big stereo. This is the best show to take advantage of that, dontcha think.
Avatar 12:17pm kat330:

Hello, Sean! Harry Shearer was complaining about London's heat yesterday. Hope you've cooled down now?

Monty Python: Missed it this go-round, but was so very fortunate to see them at the Hollywood Bowl many moons ago.
  12:21pm wzerczc:

Bless your woolly face KP
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@Kat, airconditioning is about as common a rocking horse droppings but coping with this unknown phenomenon, summer! You saw Python live, wow, jealous beyond words. Architect sketch is my fav, "That's what you come to expect from you non-creative garbage, sitting on your .......", etc, etc!
Avatar 12:25pm kat330:

@Sean: Hard to top the parrot pining for the fjords and the cheese sketch, but I recall they did an especially lengthy bit where they keep topping one another on what a wretchedly poor and pathetic childhood they had to endure. :)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Yes, Yorkshire accent to the fore, 'You were lucky, we used to live in......",
Avatar 12:27pm kat330:

"...only lint to eat"
Avatar 12:28pm Sem Chumbo:

We used to DREAM of living in corridor.
Avatar 12:29pm still b/p:

"..and when we got home our Dad would slice us in two wit' bread knife. ... our Dad and our mother would kill us and dance about on our graves singing.."
Avatar 12:29pm kat330:

@Irene: Tickled by the cats, bat and, of course, Betty Boop. Did you ever see the cleverly edited Boop video Philo did for my cover of Dylan's "Black Crow Blues"? He's a clever one that Mr. Gristle! :)
Avatar 12:34pm still b/p:

I think 'at's a tchotchke rebus right there in the photo. But if you solve it and speak it aloud, it summons you-know-who.
Avatar 12:35pm kat330:

@still b/p: From the looks of the top row, I'd say solving summons a sommelier? <-- applause for the alliteration, s'il vous plait
Avatar 12:35pm slugluv1313:

ah yes "LUXURY" "when i was your age, we all had to walk 20 miles in bare feet in six feet of snow, carrying our brothers and sisters on our backs!" etc.
Avatar 12:40pm Van in DC:

Oh man I missed Cocteau Twins. Hi Irene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Irene Trudel:

@kat, yes indeed! Today's picture is of a tchotchke keeper I have hanging on my kitchen wall.
Avatar 12:42pm still b/p:

My dad told younger kids in our family that he rode a bike to school, the trip included a river crossing, he'd remove and fold his clothes, put them in the bike basket, swim across with the bike held up by one arm out of the water above his head.
Avatar 12:43pm kat330:

My mother actually DID walk several miles to go to school. She was valedictorian of a graduating class of 30.
  12:50pm Snert:

Great set Irene!
Avatar 12:54pm kat330:

Just rec'd this link in email: soundcloud.com... A wonderful acoustic, solo version of that great tune by Richard.

And Philo's Betty Boop edit is here: www.youtube.com...
  1:04pm vanessa hudgens:

Is this the residents? It definitely has an 80's sound to it.
Avatar 1:09pm kat330:

That bass is a beast of a beauty.
Avatar 1:10pm Van in DC:

I dunno, to me it had kind of a Japan-ish David Sylvian feel to it
Avatar 1:13pm kat330:

@Van: I heard some Pastorius on Joni's "Hejira," too. But P.I.G (people in general) have linked Finland and Japan together for a variety of reasons. I think their languages look, if not sound, similar when Japanese is rendered in Arabic characters. And Hawaiian.
Avatar 1:15pm Van in DC:

Oooh, nice one. P.I.G. BTW, finally got my London airline ticket for KaTe Bush.
Avatar 1:16pm Chris from DC:

Digging this Cleaners from Venus. I know a little of them but have not heard this.
Avatar 1:17pm kat330:

Cool! I thought maybe you'd already made the journey since you seemed AWOL there for a bit.

This CFV has an XTC / Hitchcock feel to it to me.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Python, awesome!
Avatar 1:19pm Van in DC:

2nd week in Sept I'll be there.

And by Japan, I meant the group, of which David Sylvian was a part of. Fantastic group. And then Sylvian went off and made solo masterpieces like "Brilliant Trees" and even better, the double album "Gone To Earth". Just amazing stuff that seems to never get airplay but that's okay. *I* have it :)
Avatar 1:21pm d¢ pät:

oh nice. classic python.
Avatar 1:21pm kat330:

Ahhhhh, then I feel foolish. I know Pekka from his Wigwam days, introduced to me by Philo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Irene Trudel:

The Pythons did Mary Queen of Scots / Penguin in yesterday's show. As great as ever! This record, by the way, was my first introduction to the Pythons. I Have a penguin on my telly to this day.
Avatar 1:23pm Chris from DC:

This is right up there with these two going to Paris to visit Jean Paul Sartre.
Avatar 1:23pm Sem Chumbo:

"I ran rings around you logically."
Avatar 1:24pm slugluv1313:

"oh INTERCOURSE the penguin!!!" :)

my friends and i watched Monty Python RELIGIOUSLY when we were in high school! was on PBS, Sunday nights -- and we would repeat the entire show back to each other all day on Monday :)
Avatar 1:26pm slugluv1313:

@ kat330 and still b/p -- yup! what i quoted was the stuff that my parents told my younger sister and me!
  1:27pm whattawino:

beautifully segued, that bit right into Stackridge. Great show, Irene!
Avatar 1:28pm Van in DC:

ha ha Never heard this before
Avatar 1:29pm kat330:

OK, gave it a good go anyway. Listening for the rest. Have a great remainder of your days, all!

James Garner R.I.P....

Stackridge, still going strong in UK

McKendree Spring- talking about a deep cut- saw them at old Cap, Port Chester, in July 1970, w/ Tull headlining. Opener was Liv Taylor. 44 years ago. Holy smokes.

I love Playback, Irene. Still sounds good. Hey man where's earth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm common:

I wish i had a penguin. no telly!
Avatar 2:00pm Van in DC:

Did I hear this song (in part) on a recent TV show? Walking Dead maybe? Reign? Sure sounds familiar
  2:02pm Mr Wensleydale:

Bill Mac played the Cheese sketch the other morning and listeners were commenting the lines before they were delivered.
Avatar 2:26pm listener mark:

Thank you Irene for a peaceful beginning to the week.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Brian in UK:

Going to see Sun Kil Moon next month playing in a church in London.
Avatar 2:29pm drewo:

The Python performance will be re-broadcast in select theaters across the country on Wed. and Thurs. this week.
Avatar 2:30pm listener mark:

Coconuts are tropical. Jersey City is in a temperate zone. So where did we get the coconuts?
  2:40pm don d:

Jim and Jean cover David Blue. Now that's sublime.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Brian in UK:

Jersey City is in a temperance zone. Blimey.

Guessing the title of Jim & Jean's Album is Phil Och's song.
Avatar 2:46pm Van in DC:

Yep, it was a Walking Dead episode, looks like.

Thanks for easing us into the week Irene!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Irene, thank you for a wonderful show.
  2:50pm don d:
