wow julius eastman.
thanks for the alt 4th, whilst(?! just slipped out, am in an international mood) just not so into the usa. I'm cleaning the apt and enjoying the cool windy nyc day from the wide open windows. And no family obligations or group bbq boredom...though I am probably the boring one not into drinking and shouting about futbol.
Love the rain and esp the thunderstorms; nyc foliage is so lush this year.
looking forward to rest of show tho not so into hearing the Ives, Cohen- but for the sake of cultural history why not?
Patriotic? Can I handle the rest of the show? I love both your shows in general so will hang in..

Nice rainy-day American Music -- diggin' it!

James:

Woody Guthrie is just what i was about to call in to request. His music is the epitome of what patriotic music should be. He was both equally critical as he was proud to be an American.
  4:19pm
Marc:

"You're A Grand Ole Flag." By George M. Cohan. What's more patriotic than our flag?
  4:23pm
James:

If we can hear Pete Seegers version of Ode to Joy, that would be phenomenal.

I'm seconding the Seeger request!

Hmm, now that we've had 2 Leonard Bernstein appearances, I wonder if there will be a third? What with "Songfest" and "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue", there's still some America-themed Bernstein to go.

Dave in PA:

I remember about 25 years ago hearing a radio program that I think was put together by a DJ with an American theme - mostly music from the 60s/70s - and I heard it more than once over the years - but I would have a hard time pinpointing it now - anyone have a clue what I am talking about?

God, remember going to a Yes concert at Roosevelt Field right in your ('FMU) hometown, with Yes version of America you played blaring on the car stereo as I drove up the Turnpike.
