Glad we have got past the 'Wyatting' moment when it was an allegedly good way of using a song to clear a room! I prefer Kenny Loggins for this purpose or Kenny G - basically without prejudice to some great Kennys it usually produces some horror and terror as a musical name

Nothing wrong with a steam powered ipod - mine is too. They hold more music and don't go wrong as much - carrying a bag of coal on a long train journey can be awkward though especially when wearing a white business suit

I tell some people that I have access to a massive record collection and it is so large I have to have a team of people just to go through it and select the best stuff for me to listen to. Then on top of that they continually play this music for me 24 hours a day so that I can just listen when I want to.

@ Bill - it's sort of amazing from today's perspective that Capt'n Beefheart and Incredible String Band and such like were sold at your local Caldors and were part of what was considered, in the context of the time, the so called mainstream.

@Andy Very true - My first TMR sighting was in the record rack in the local drug store in the early 70s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16am
Fran:

TMR for me was school in the early 80s - a cool sixth form item if you wanted to be different to the Bowie, Iggy and Lou nerds
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21am
Guido from Cologne:

my fateful decision for TMR was as a teenager in 1981 and i had to decide between two classics: "Fun House" and "TMR". I decided I needed something "positive". One of the albums that changed my life ... and it served as a doorway to understanding a good bunch of American Music Traditions.
Avatar 4:25am
Bill Mac:

Problem with buying an album like TMR was that you were destined to play it for yourself most of the time.

marmalade kitty:

Hi jay! did you get the mail?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29am
Guido from Cologne:

my classmates (and parents) thought i was going nuts. First GFloyd, than SKlaus Schulze, the residents ... and then this chaos?

But anytime you by chance met someone who was into Beefheart, it was like meeting another like-minded comrade on the spot!
