Hey Bill At Home sunbathing on my balcony ... did not get much of the show last week asa train kept going into tunnels .. and it's the longest day very hot here
Avatar 3:13am w41:

You can't really ask for more than Damo Suzuki to wake you up in case something important must be done.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15am Guido from Cologne:

Zero Time !
Good Morning everyone!
I hear sounds from Cologne!
Avatar 3:15am beavoux:

If the sun don't come. Do you get your tan from standing in the English rain?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17am Guido from Cologne:

This was true in 1967 I guess.
Avatar 3:20am Bill Mac:

@Jay Beautiful here this weekend, had some heat during the week Yeah it's been a while since the last time Can was played on this show.
Avatar 3:21am Bill Mac:

@Fran Lurking!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22am Fran:

Can and The Softs - good start! Really pleased yesterday to get a ticket for a more or less reformed Henry Cow playing a tribute concert to Lindsay Cooper in November
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23am Fran:

Holly is seemingly lurking!
Avatar 3:23am Bill Mac:

Robert Wyatt alert!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24am Stanley:

Bill, friends, good morning and summer solstice greetings t y'all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24am Guido from Cologne:

... oh ... the group has a pop-singer ... hehehe ...
Avatar 3:25am Bill Mac:

I think I might have told you that I saw Frith the night after she passed. They played either a HC or a material cover
Avatar 3:26am beavoux:

@Bill it's Esther's Nose Job
Avatar 3:26am Bill Mac:

Yo Stan that's right, happy frickin' summer everybody, never thought we'd get to this point again
Avatar 3:26am Andy in Berlin:

@ Bill - I'm always on Robert Wyatt alert
Avatar 3:26am Bill Mac:

Thanks B. I always get ahead of myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27am Fran:

Bill - this includes Frith, Dagmar, Cutler, Greaves, Hodgkinson and others including guests like Zeena Parkins
Avatar 3:27am Bill Mac:

Morning Andy - anything interesting for first meal this morning?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28am Guido from Cologne:

Soft Machine on German TV Beat Club: Worth checking out, pretty psychedelic still and display Roberts part as drummer/singer very well :
Avatar 3:28am Andy in Berlin:

@ Bill - today is eggs over light with a bagel
Avatar 3:29am Bill Mac:

I have Slapp Happys The Drum in constant rotation on the steam powered ipod
Avatar 3:30am Bill Mac:

@Andy - awesome... i got a nanner...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30am SeanG:

Tuning in from Somerville,MA!
Avatar 3:30am w41:

I thought that sequence is an intro to your mic music for a second...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30am Fran:

Glad we have got past the 'Wyatting' moment when it was an allegedly good way of using a song to clear a room! I prefer Kenny Loggins for this purpose or Kenny G - basically without prejudice to some great Kennys it usually produces some horror and terror as a musical name
Avatar 3:32am Bill Mac:

Hey hey SeanG!
Avatar 3:32am Andy in Berlin:

@Bill - my waitress, Marge, says to say hello :)
Avatar 3:33am Bill Mac:

Tell Marge two crullers please....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33am Fran:

Nothing wrong with a steam powered ipod - mine is too. They hold more music and don't go wrong as much - carrying a bag of coal on a long train journey can be awkward though especially when wearing a white business suit
Avatar 3:33am Bill Mac:

@Andy Say hello first!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34am Stanley:

@Fran - do you remember the band called 'Kenny'? It was a 'band' around when I was a kid in the seventies. Now that plumbs new depths.
  3:34am P-90:

Mmmmmmm. Crullers...
  3:34am Veronica:

Great show tonight so far Bill!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35am Fran:

See Stanley the theory holds water - which reminds me of the Minder theme tune by Dennis Waterman and Kenny - now that is through the bottom of a very rotten barrel
Avatar 3:36am Andy in Berlin:

The word for cruller here is Kamerooner
Avatar 3:36am Bill Mac:

Thanks Veronica!
Avatar 3:37am Bill Mac:

@Fran Arrington de Dionyso cut up against any room clearer Wyatt could provide...
  3:37am P-90:

Mmmmm. Kamerooner....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38am Fran:

Is that Kenny Arrington de Dionyso?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38am Stanley:

(knock knock) can I come back in now?
Avatar 3:38am Andy in Berlin:

in the immortal words of Stan Freberg,"honk, honk the altos!
Avatar 3:44am w41:

There was a 45th anniversary of TMR on June 16th!
Avatar 3:45am Jay/London:

How Big!!! Is Your i pod Bill You seem to all ways find LOST stuff on it :)
Avatar 3:49am Bill Mac:

@Jay it's sad really... there are 20000 tunes on there and I generally tune into the 37 songs in my favorites pile. So lazy!
Avatar 3:52am Jay/London:

Bill I think we all do that . its not so much Lazy as listening to stuff we like :)
Avatar 3:54am Bill Mac:

Hey someone let Stanley back in....
Avatar 3:55am Bill Mac:

@Jay Yeah but you guys are hear (and on other shows) dutifully listening in every day... I admire that.
  3:57am marmalade kitty:

good morning good
Avatar 3:57am Bill Mac:

MK inna house!
Avatar 3:58am nah:

@Bill: It is educational, a super easy way to expand your musical knowledge. So it's hardly a chore to tune in to WFMU.
  3:58am P-90:

Hi Marmalade K.
Avatar 4:06am Jay/London:

Hi Kitty nice and hot here ... thought you were going to email me ... did you get the one I sent you ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06am Stanley:

I tell some people that I have access to a massive record collection and it is so large I have to have a team of people just to go through it and select the best stuff for me to listen to. Then on top of that they continually play this music for me 24 hours a day so that I can just listen when I want to.
Avatar 4:08am nah:

@Stanley: That is a great way of putting it.
Avatar 4:08am Bill Mac:

@Stanley Utopia
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09am Fran:

Stanley - would this be WFMU promotion here or are you talking about Oldham and District Hospital radio? Just checking.....
Avatar 4:09am Andy in Berlin:

@ Bill - it's sort of amazing from today's perspective that Capt'n Beefheart and Incredible String Band and such like were sold at your local Caldors and were part of what was considered, in the context of the time, the so called mainstream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09am Stanley:

Yeah. life's grand.
Avatar 4:10am coelacanth:

Hello Bill Mac.
i've enjoyed the hour immensely, but now must sleep.
Thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11am Guido from Cologne:

Don of the day!
Avatar 4:11am Bill Mac:

@Coelacanth Pleasant dreams, C.
Avatar 4:12am Bill Mac:

@Guido Sans Don
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13am Guido from Cologne:

Maybe we'll call it SaturDon?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14am Fran:

Bill - surely Don is glowering at someone in the background deciding who will get the next Band 'talk'.....!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14am Stanley:

This is good.
Avatar 4:15am Bill Mac:

@Andy Very true - My first TMR sighting was in the record rack in the local drug store in the early 70s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16am Fran:

TMR for me was school in the early 80s - a cool sixth form item if you wanted to be different to the Bowie, Iggy and Lou nerds
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21am Guido from Cologne:

my fateful decision for TMR was as a teenager in 1981 and i had to decide between two classics: "Fun House" and "TMR". I decided I needed something "positive". One of the albums that changed my life ... and it served as a doorway to understanding a good bunch of American Music Traditions.
Avatar 4:25am Bill Mac:

Problem with buying an album like TMR was that you were destined to play it for yourself most of the time.
  4:26am marmalade kitty:

Hi jay! did you get the mail?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29am Guido from Cologne:

my classmates (and parents) thought i was going nuts. First GFloyd, than SKlaus Schulze, the residents ... and then this chaos?

But anytime you by chance met someone who was into Beefheart, it was like meeting another like-minded comrade on the spot!
Avatar 4:34am Jay/London:

Yes Kitty just sent you a reply ... go get some sun Later :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41am Stanley:

Avatar 4:42am Bill Mac:

Yup - power of suggestion courtesy of the previous toon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43am Fran:

Weird word/music association time - mention of Utopia earlier and playing this put me in mind of Todd Rundgren 'Faithful' where one side was faithful covers including this and one side was original - not my favourite but may dig it out later.
  4:45am Emile:

Hey Bill - been away a while nice to be back
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45am Guido from Cologne:

Hey, one of those "Classic Rock Double albums" (which I do not have)
Avatar 4:49am listener mark:

Good morning Bill.
Avatar 4:50am Bill Mac:

Hi Mark how you doon?
Avatar 4:51am Bill Mac:

@Guido Another gap... I didn't know it was a double til now...
Avatar 4:51am Sem Chumbo:

Hiya, Bill, and the assembled.
  4:52am P-90:

Hi Sem.
Avatar 4:53am Sem Chumbo:

@P-90: man, you keep long hours:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53am Stanley:

Tasty indeed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54am Guido from Cologne:

maybe it was a task of German journalists to write about "theat Double Album Period", ignited by "Freak Out", continued with "White Album", "TMR" "Electric landlady", "Bonde on Blone" ... the average titles on the list that was mentioned repeatetly ...
Avatar 4:54am Bill Mac:

@Sem Hey, yeah I was gonna say the same about P-90.
Hey Emile!
Avatar 4:56am Sem Chumbo:

Sounds like West Side Story-era Sondheim, more than a little.
Avatar 4:59am Bill Mac:

Not one of Snakey's better albums, but I do like the Ballad of Sawney Bean on hear. I really liked his manual of errors album a lot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00am Guido from Cologne:

Snakefiner was such a fab musician ... unfortunately i messed the show in Cologne shortly before his death.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02am Guido from Cologne:

"manual of errors" and "chewing hides the sound" stands all tests of time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03am Guido from Cologne:

after/during Beefheart
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04am Fran:

Has anyone heard the recently reissued Snakefinger History of the Blues album - very different and very recommended
Avatar 5:06am Bill Mac:

It was in the new bin here recently. I'll need to fish it out and give it another listen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11am Stanley:

Penetration!!!!! Yeah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11am Fran:

Ah Penetration! Good stuff. Also liked Pauline Murray and The Invisible Girls record - could be another to dig out later
Avatar 5:12am Bill Mac:
