Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30am Matt from Springfield:

Wooo! The Seeds!
(Long before Nick Cave's Bad Seeds, I think that's why this band called themselves that--implied they were "bad" seeds...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30am Guido from Cologne:

I signed a petition against public German TV paying fees to FIFA-mafia
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34am Guido from Cologne:

  6:48am Dave B:

Cute, cuddly, delicious

Avatar 7:02am northguineahills:

I've been retarded about soccer since the I was a wee lad in the 80s. I used to go to the library just to get the scores from the previous week (remember before the internet?). I've been MIA from WFMU since I've watched every game.
Avatar 7:04am northguineahills:

My brother will be in Amsterdam at the same time, but his understanding music doesn't eclipse top 40. I wish I could switch places, then again, I see WFMUers all the time here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07am Meghan:

awwww, you should switch places with him!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07am Wynford the Eagle (Dorset, UK):

Ingerland, Ingerland, Ingerland, is the famous chant! Spain v Chile best game so far. I have spanish heritage but england has been my home for all my life - probe is england aren't good enough….love chile though! Tuning in till the end today, whilst sunbathing in the garden, and later the beach! love the show meghan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09am Wynford Eagle:

Avatar 7:10am northguineahills:

I heard small change play the congos before I went to sleep. I hear Meghan play the congos when I wake up. nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11am Meghan:

awww thanks Wynford.... yeah that game was insane.... the Chilean crowd was so loud! And bombarding the stadium! Crazy
Avatar 7:17am northguineahills:

I went to a US - Chile game back in '99, and I can't get the 'Chi - Chi - Chi, Le - Le - Le, Viva Chile!' chant out of my head that now I always automatically root for Chile (unless playing for the US).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20am Meghan:

The chant this time seemed to be Ole Ole Ole Chile!
Avatar 7:23am northguineahills:

*playing against the US* (still too early)
Avatar 7:26am Dave B:

I was down there last week. No scaffolding at freak bar
Avatar 7:28am Dave B:

... and I'm gonna pass on Mermaid this year. Bohemian Hall Beer Garden for me!
  7:28am Dirty Old Man:

Hey, I resemble that remark.
Avatar 7:31am Dave B:

Meghan - there's Kebeer Draft Bar down in Brighton.

Avatar 7:32am northguineahills:

Not sure why I don't dislike Kim Wilde, maybe b/c she's so catchy.....
Avatar 7:35am fred von helsing:

DaveB how can you possibly pass after you've been in the Mighty Mermaid March Martinimobile ?
Avatar 7:36am fred von helsing:

altho Kebeer does sound primo
Avatar 7:39am Dave B:

I know Fred... But I have some friends that want to watch that match Meghan spoke of. We figured what better place to take it in... I'll be in Astoria, over here:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41am Meghan:

I avoid typically ethnic places to watch the games. It's like Octoberfest.... a cluster fuck of people who I don't really want to hang out with....The key to Bohemian is that is has outdoor space. The indoor part not too exciting.
Avatar 7:48am fred von helsing:

I don't want to infer that Meghan's weird dreams make me feel dirty but... my kitchen is getting an oddly thorough cleaning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49am Meghan:

Avatar 7:51am fred von helsing:

Bohemian has a Staropramen neon sign, that's class
Avatar 7:53am northguineahills:

wow, classic Tricky... takes me back....
Avatar 7:55am northguineahills:

I haven't been to Bohemian in while, I'd should go back. Staropramen is one of my favorites. A month before my 21st bday a lifetime ago, a clerk in a Jacksonville supermarket w/ a central European accent told me to buy a six-pack of Staropramen, so I did. I've been a fan ever since
Avatar 7:58am fred von helsing:

Staro regular (not the dark) is excellent.
FWIW tomorrow is Midsummer Eve, a public holiday, and the drinking commences anytime after waking up and should in principle run all night and past sunrise at 4 and into Saturday:) Most folks go to the countryside but if you're a poor artist or a foreigner it's easy to end up in the city... used to be deserted at Midsummer but nowadays ya got more and more people hanging out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58am Greg from Bloomfield:

Hi Meghan! I never comment because I'm usually running around getting ready to leave. But I'm listening, I promise!
Avatar 7:59am fred von helsing:

I'd love to visit Otto's Shrunken Head, it sounds like my kinda Tiki gin mill
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00am Meghan:

hahaha! Thanks Greg!
Avatar 8:01am KP:

Well this one is Alright.
  8:01am The Brooklyn Kid:

Meghan I'm awake I just don't have anything to say
Avatar 8:02am KP:

Otto's Shrunken Head is practically in my apartment
  8:03am The Brooklyn Kid:

In Kim Wilde he best song was "keep me hangin on" the song "kids in America" has been played to death on the stations up the dial
Avatar 8:03am Jim Devoid:

Yo. Missed Kids in 'Murica, darn.
Avatar 8:03am Jim Devoid:

Late for the grave request: Kids of the Black Hole by the ADOLESCENTS?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04am Meghan:

I am not a fan of Otto's.... I'd rather be at a real deal tiki place. Otto's feels like a friend's basement that was converted into a tiki feel... not comfortable, in my opinion
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04am Meghan:

Oh Jim, I got some you will dig....
Avatar 8:07am KP:

i was just going to say otto's is much better on a Sunday afternoon than a Saturday night
Avatar 8:08am Jim Devoid:

Steven Tyler always reminded me of a demented man child.
Avatar 8:09am northguineahills:

Wasn't Otto's once owned by the same people who own the Beauty Bar before it became Otto's? Having weird flashbacks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09am Meghan:

he is.... this was Jeff's demand.... Jim, your stuff is next set...
Avatar 8:11am fred von helsing:

yo Meghan got a better Tiki place in the Tristate ? Here's the Hellsinki state of the art :: navyjerrys.fi
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12am Meghan:

Avatar 8:13am Jim Devoid:

Listening to AC/DC brings me back to the time of wearing OP shorts and riding my redline bmx bike while balancing my big ass boom box on the bars, of course blasting Let There Be Rock...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13am Ken From Hyde Park:

Classic Rock Block ... Yay!
Avatar 8:13am KP:

Ive near gone in the beauty bar but it looks cut from same vinyl
  8:14am Dave B:

Lees Hawaiian

Polynesian food, drinks in tiki cups, singing Chinese waiters and karaoke!
Avatar 8:17am Jim Devoid:

Always frickin' loved the bongos!
Avatar 8:18am V Priceless:

Mornin' Meghan! Rock!
Avatar 8:20am PKNY:

SÄBBÄTH!!!! \m/(>.<)\m/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20am Ken From Hyde Park:

I trust "Children of the Sea" will follow this?
Avatar 8:20am fred von helsing:

Lyndhurst, OK, not far from my old haunts in Nutley and Bloomfield but I'm not likely to get there :-/
Avatar 8:20am KP:

There was a Tiki bar story in NYT. Otto's is mentioned but dismissed as a dive rock n roll bar, which is actually being kind. Everything else they mentioned appeared suburban shlock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21am Meghan:

also.... critiki.com...
Avatar 8:21am Andy in Berlin:

Hey Meghan! I just tuned in and I'm sure it's too late, but just in case (or maybe you're doing it?) what about What's The Matter With Kids Today from Bye Bye Birdie?
starts at 1:19
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23am Meghan:

Fred.... you have to remember, good things don't always exist in NYC.... and you did ask for the Tri State area..... so no bitching!
Avatar 8:23am KP:

Never been to Montreal in summer.
  8:24am Dave B:

Avatar 8:24am V Priceless:

yeah..I always think of The Damned tune after the fact - "Silly Kids Games", case in point! ohh.."Heavy Metal Kids" by Utopia too! Woo! It's all good!
Avatar 8:24am fred von helsing:

Lee's doesn't seem to have a website, that's weird. OK, it's NJ. I like the canoe hanging from the ceiling :-D and the drinks look affordable (not like here !)
Avatar 8:26am Jim Devoid:

Avatar 8:27am fred von helsing:

Comments mentioned this place, north of Jamaica (NYC), looks doable but the drinks menu is unexceptional :: www.kingyumrestaurant.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28am Meghan:

good tiki places are straight out of the 60's.... they don't have a computerized cash register! no website.... that doesn't exist in their world!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28am common:

happy thursday meghan and people!
Avatar 8:29am fred von helsing:

Hmm Critiki is missing Finland completely
Avatar 8:29am V Priceless:

hey comm!
Avatar 8:29am fred von helsing:

Bourdain hit a Tiki joint just outside Honolulu airport, it looked retro FAB
Avatar 8:30am northguineahills:

@Jim Devoid: You had the same childhood as me, apparently. Cheers.

Thanks Meghan, I'm gonna try to be productive before the WC (and I have a interview tomorrow, stupid WC!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30am Meghan:

Bourdain hit one in Staten Island with David Johansen....
Avatar 8:32am Jim Devoid:

Childhood....that was just last week! HA! Yeah, I was one of those annoying teenagers from the 80's...Reagan hated me.
Avatar 8:34am V Priceless:

officially awake now, thanks M!
Avatar 8:34am KP:

When Children of the Revolution was played did anyone mention that the movie by same name (and which features the song) is the greatest creative accomplishment yet known to human kind?
  8:34am jefff:

Best. Set. Ever!
Avatar 8:35am KP:

Bourdain and Johansen, that would be a great series
Avatar 8:38am Alessia:

Hi Meghan I'm so late for your shoooow! :(
Beautiful artwork over there!
Avatar 8:41am Dave B:

There's always this, up on Lake George:

Avatar 8:42am fred von helsing:

the drinks are brill at the place in hellsinki here and the bartender is a real tiki rocket scientist but jeez, it takes serious moolah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43am Meghan:

The lake george place we have not gone to, not really a true tiki place.... banquet style....
Avatar 8:44am Dave B:

This is the mecca of tiki bars. Been there a few years ago, and its where I got my "beer bottle cammo" hawaiian shirt

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44am Meghan:

Oh Alessia, I'll forgive you this time..... btw, Pierre was in my dream. He kept telling me to wake up because I was going to be late.....
Avatar 8:44am Dave B:

yeah, went to that place in LG as a kid for the Polynesian show.

Fire and Grass Skirts do not mix
Avatar 8:45am KP:

Im rooting for one song.
Avatar 8:46am Dave B:

FvH - "Beer Bottle Cammo". I can slip a bottle of beer into the pocket, and it just blends in....

Avatar 8:46am fred von helsing:

Coasting/Kids was great
Avatar 8:47am KP:

That lake george place does bang a long forgotten gong.
Avatar 8:48am Dave B:

KP - almost as long as Mai-Kai in Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood FLA
Avatar 8:49am fred von helsing:

the Mai-Kai does sound like fun
  8:49am P-90:

@ Meghan: Great show! I can't get over the picture though, the more I look at it the more I love it. I don't recognize the artist. If you have a chance, could you post the artist's name or the URL from whence it came?
Avatar 8:49am fred von helsing:

excellent picture, Dave !
Avatar 8:50am Alessia:

@Meghan Oh my god! I have to tell him, we spoke about you yesterday, maybe we crossed energies dreaming streams.. but late for what?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52am Meghan:

late for my radio show.... telling me I had to wake up.... though every time i did, it was an hour too early! ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52am Meghan:

P-90... this is the artist- Giordano Poloni
Avatar 8:53am Dave B:

Google image search to the rescue!

Avatar 8:54am KP:

Bon voyage, Meghan/
Avatar 8:54am fred von helsing:

Damn, this lad is getting BRUTALLY thirsty but one of the gang already posted a call to beers at the punk rock place Yeay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55am Meghan:

Merci KP!
  8:55am P-90:

Thanks Meghan and Dave B!
Avatar 8:55am Jim Devoid:

What's the name of the tiki place in Lake George? My mom lives there, might czech it out if desperate one day to take her out.
Avatar 8:56am fred von helsing:

right now it's 15C/60F and threatening showers, yeccch, hardly conducive to rum use, misuse, and abuse
Avatar 8:56am Dave B:

Jim -

It's just called TIKI. Right down at the bottom of the lake before you head into the Village. It's nothing to write home about anymore...
Avatar 8:56am Alessia:

Over-alarming Pierre..and now you are leaving for 3 weeks! Have fun, I look forward to see updates on fb!
Avatar 8:57am Dave B:

FvH - may i suggest a dry martini then?
Avatar 8:57am fred von helsing:

how about a quick shout-out to tiki lovers everywhere ?
Avatar 8:57am Jim Devoid:

Oh yeah...they hold an annual Elvis imitator conference there.
Avatar 8:57am fred von helsing:

why Dave B, that is an EXCELLENT idea !
  8:59am P-90:

Have fun up North. Remember: If you squeeze the gel out of a freshly cut aloe leaf and spread it on newly tatoo-ed skin, it will heal faster and feel much better...
Avatar 9:56am Van in DC:

"Parkies"...? Okaaaaaay....

Rats. Forgot it was Thursday. How childish.
