Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Thanks for listening to this episode of The Dusty Show. I hope you enjoyed it. I won't lament to you anymore about how I used to have more TIME to put shows together, since I've whined about that at length and, after all, who does have any time these days?! I enjoy interviewing people, but it is a bit of a daunting prospect each week. WHen I imagine doing it, it always sounds fun, but actually venturing out there into the masses with my little microcassette recorder is often more difficult than it seems. It takes a good deal of psychic energy to foist myself out there and into peoples faces in a way that they won't tell me to F-off or reject me outright.

Last week I was talking to volunteer Samantha at the station and she alluded to a show from a few weeks back. Perhaps you remember it. I was LIVE from Union Square Park with a film crew. Unfortunately, we had technical problems and Samantha played an OLD episode of Mondo Eclectica, a show I produced for WMNF in Tampa from 1998-2005ish. She mentioned how moving it was and how personal, and I got that awful feeling of thinking that I used to be so much better than I am now. Maybe I was. I do invite you to go waaaaaay back in the archives and check out early work. I'm sure that, as it is with bands and music, there is something about the "early days" that captures magic and freshness in a way that is hard to hold onto as the years roll by. The show has gone through many, many changes, though some things stay the same. It is definitely more news-oriented than it used to be and perhaps less-arty to my chagrine. I wionder sometimes if I should stop doing it, but I hope that you still enjoy the programs. Once in a while I still find some old magic. I still enjoy making programs and you know, honestly, there is never any real way to "go back" and do things like you "used to." Times and people change. The past is irretrievable. If it was accessible, a nostalgic guy like me would be lost back there, riding my stingray around in circles in some gravel parking lot, dreaming of dilly bars and electric football games. But here we are in the now ... 2014 ... and soon that will just be some old year from the past. I'm glad you're still around, whoever you are. I really am. Without you, the show has no meaning. Thank you and always remember. Clay Pigeon NYC 6/16/14 Love

Questions!! Were you stuck alone? What building were you in? How long?
  6:02pm P-90:

@ Clay: What was the total duration of the Elevator Experience?
Avatar 6:04pm Clay Pigeon:

alone 75 mins
Avatar 6:04pm Cecile:

he sounds like he's 11. I don't think it's the same guy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Were you confident you'd get out safely or did you envision your own death in the elevator? Did the thought of it dropping loose and plummeting to the bottom cross your mind?
Avatar 6:05pm sFrances from PDX:

Fun fact: I used to be an elevator operator in DC, one of the last hand operated elevators in the city at that time (1981).
Doesn't make me any less ascared of getting stuck in one!
  6:05pm Eric:

Young Aussies are always traveling.
Avatar 6:06pm Night Owl:

I worked the REO Speedwagon show at the Seminole Hard Rock May 24th... I was at the casino from 9AM until after load out. Got home 2AM. That was the second REO show I worked since last November 2013. I think Kevin Cronin is starting to know my face. We first locked eyes at the Bayfront Center REO concert in 1978.
  6:07pm P-90:

@ Clay: It would have made a better story if you had been a married, middle-aged bohemian stuck in an elevator with a vivacious, curvaceous 22-year old lady-
-but life is rarely like an episode of "Love, American Style"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm davex:

Love the Expos reference!
  6:07pm V Priceless:

Hi Clay! Was wondering if you were gonna play some 'Otis' in honor of your elevator adventure! : )
  6:10pm Gee Lampa:

Clay... Bust out the Fripp-produced Daryl Hall material!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm dale:

i think that album is on youtube. can't believe it's part of a trilogy with exposure and peter gabriel's first
  6:11pm Gee Lampa:

Collette sounds like she knocked back a few Cointreaus.
Avatar 6:11pm Mary Wing:

I wish I could've checked out the discards after the record fair, some gems always get tossed out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm dale:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Matt from Springfield:

@P-90: That IS kind of what happened with Clay and Kirsten--only not in a stuck elevator! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Donald Sterling bought the Clippers for $12M and selling them for $2B. Will he pay capital gains tax on that?
Avatar 6:16pm Clay Pigeon:

Her message: You Americans with microphones, stay away from foreigners.
  6:24pm P-90:

Guten abend Matt: YES, she's Dublin all the way. And very opinionated...
So: Clay and Kirsten met in a kind of "Neil Simon one-act romantic comedy" scenario?
Is that what you mean?
  6:25pm grassmother:

Clay I need a rec for a good handheld
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm dale:

i had an '85 two-door fleetwood brougham, red on red on red. best sixteen hundred i ever spent.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Matt from Springfield:

"Human Jackson Centipede"..
6:27pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Sorry, you caught it.
  6:27pm P-90:

@ choco monk: OK I said she was "opinionated", but yeah, there was a real ugly streak of bigotry there. Discouraging, I want to think Dubliners are more cosmopolitan than that...
  6:27pm Gee Lampa:

I think they found Rebbie in a basket by the river.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm dale:

kind of malcolm mclaren-ish production. maybe the m. butterfly he did
  6:28pm P-90:

@ Matt: yep, that's Neil Simon. Or Woody Allen...
6:28pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I planned to insinuate myself in your interviewing, but you were a busy man and I had bins to dig through.
Avatar 6:31pm Clay Pigeon:

Wow Pete ... you were there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Matt from Springfield:

Woody Allen's would be meeting the young lady in an editing room for a producer he hates, only for the jackass to stake a claim on the lady, and for his favorite icon to commit suicide:
  6:32pm P-90:

@Clay: you meant "acrophobia", not "agorophobia"? I had the same experience diving St. john, the bottom drops away and the water is so clear you feel like you're high above the "ground"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Marcel M:

@ Pete I felt the same way hehe. I lingered near by for a minute. I did talk to Clay Sunday though. Was nice to meet you Clay.
Avatar 6:33pm chocolate monk:

@p-90 its the same all over,,, the powers know how to divide and conquer, just look at UKIPs rise in the UK,,, fucking GRIM! i mean it's not like the Irish, or the scottish or english or welsh haven't split our crappy isles and landed on other shores... and arrived as foreigners... this bums me out no end, CLAY i need to see that Rich Rags photo again for some light relief/titallation
  6:34pm Gee Lampa:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Matt from Springfield:

  6:38pm P-90:

@ choco monk: Yes! Ironic about that Dubliner (Dublinette?) Clay spoke to, in the US the Irish were probably the single most DESPISED nationality of immigrants. More than the Chinese, more than anyone. Ha!
  6:39pm grassmother:

Clay you love that champs riff huh
Avatar 6:40pm Clay Pigeon:

That Champs chug metal is cool. No vocals. No leads. Mathy-y.
Avatar 6:41pm Clay Pigeon:
