Avatar 9:51am Brian in UK:

Hey Joe, thought Monica had taken this slot in the Summer schedules. I can dream, no offence.
It rained in the night here and there was a wonderful fragrance in the air walking to work, bit autuminal.

Joe, did you see me waving at the record fair. You would have needed eyes of an elf.
Avatar 9:52am Sem Chumbo:

@Cecile: which end up?

Avatar 9:56am Joe McG:

@dc pat: Who will be next to play a cut from "Waiting for the Sun"? Which, come to think of it, would be a better track for the likes of today...
Avatar 9:56am Cecile:

VP - that sounds both exciting and horrifying at the same time.

Avatar 9:59am Cecile:

they give you Starless and Bible Black. And then they give you Beat and The Power to Believe.
Avatar 9:59am V Priceless:

Alien Whale got me thinkin' of ol' Fripper!
Avatar 9:59am Cecile:

I once called him in a review "the stern and withholding father figure of progressive rock." hahahhaha
Avatar 10:01am Cecile:

this is really Andy Kim, right? :D
Avatar 10:02am Brian in UK:

Grocer Jack.
Avatar 10:03am V Priceless:

@ Cecile - "stern" seems as representative a word as any, in many respects. Or maybe...ahem...."disciplined"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am common:

@marcel: which members of talibam?
Avatar 10:05am d¢ pät:

Yeah, King Crimson's great and all but there is now ONE WEEK UNTIL THE WORLD CUP! I better start hearing a LOT of futbol songs, dammit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am sugarwolf:

Avatar 10:05am Cecile:

disciplined, but also slightly disapproving of people not exhibiting the right amount of seriousness in his mind. And since he's the boss, this amount of seriousouss is subject to his whims...
Avatar 10:05am V Priceless:

be interesting to see if Fripp will be packing a Mellotron on this tour, even though that's a bit an oxymoron statement.
Avatar 10:06am Cecile:

hope he doesn't scratch it. ;)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am Lewis:

@dc pat: do I recall correctly that (was if 4 years ago!) you were going to build a big white board bracket? if so - how did that work out?
Avatar 10:07am Brian in UK:

@d¢ pät Ever heard 'Fitball Crazy' by two Scotsmen, Robin Hall & Jimmy Macgregor?
Avatar 10:08am Cheri Pi:

you could also be describing Michael Gira, who likes to start a show off with a good tisk-tisking of the audience.
Avatar 10:08am Cheri Pi:

What pät shrieked.
Avatar 10:08am Cecile:

Just play some Crazy Frog.

Michael Gira is hilarious!
Avatar 10:09am Cecile:

pat, you should go on Sportsy Talk.
Avatar 10:09am Cheri Pi:

I can no longer ever take Gira seriously again. it has to be some kind of schtick, right?
Avatar 10:10am d¢ pät:

@Lewis: you are quite correct. I'm sorry to report that I bailed on that concept and just bought a bracket poster. I got too many irons in too many fires and can't make EVERYTHING...
@Brian: nope

Avatar 10:12am d¢ pät:

oh, didn't know that. Sounds kind of good.
Avatar 10:13am Cecile:

it's kind of awesome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am Scott Williams:

at Primavera a few years ago, Gira was shouting from the stage "WFMU - FUCK YOU!" He came over to the tent later to ask if we heard it - cute joke: turns out Swans were listening to Ween's "Reggaejunkiejew" all day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am Guido from Cologne:

You should see our "expert soccer trainers" in our pubs here.
You couldn't help loughing out!
Avatar 10:14am Cecile:

aw, that's kind of coo. BUt they are still kind of dopey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am Scott Williams:

PS - HI JOE! Thanks for the Doors dedication, and for not playing "Running Blue"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am common:

@scott: that makes sense.
Avatar 10:14am d¢ pät:

I went to a local Liverpool-supporting bar to watch one of the last matches of the season and that creeped me right-the-fuck out. It was like a cult.
Avatar 10:14am Marcel M:

@Scott, Brian Turner told me that story, he told me he said something like, "Spain, overthrow your government, WFMU, FUCK YOU!" Classic...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am common:

ooo, you want to stay far far away from Soft Parade...
Avatar 10:16am Cecile:

I guess I could move to Iran, but the TV is terrible there, I've heard.
Avatar 10:16am Marcel M:

That he came over to the tent after to ask if you heard it makes Gira seem more cute and endearing.
Avatar 10:17am Cecile:

I think he needs to do a stunt cover. Also an appearance on Bob's Burgers. Then I might rethink him,
Avatar 10:17am Whosondephone:

Avatar 10:18am Cecile:

Speaking of job interviews: The missus just gave notice at current (hellhole) employer. After a couple years of sneaky interviewing, finally... sweet relief...

yayay for missus rev
Avatar 10:36am bobdoesthings:

There's also "I Wanna Be Lazy" by Kin Ping Meh, if there's a theme to be had here...

Whats up Bob. Two days in a row?!

@Rev: Good one!
Avatar 10:38am d¢ pät:

Nice Rev.. mrs. dc pat is in a similar hellhole boat right now. Nice to know there is hope.
Avatar 10:40am bobdoesthings:

@marcel.. well yesterday was only like 20 mins late... this morning I forgot to set alarms and am over an hour late and now im chatting it ip on the comments boards.. Im the worst
Avatar 10:40am bobdoesthings's boss:

Uh bob, can you step into my office for a minute?...
Avatar 10:40am Rev. Turnip Druid:

DCP: there is indeed hope, but in her case it took a crazy long time. The scenario is tough: us professional-grade persons "of a certain age" competing with recent grads who will work for peanuts & have no combat experience...
Avatar 10:41am bobdoesthings:

oh no! boss.
Avatar 10:43am d¢ pät:

nail on the head @rev. You gotta balance how much bullshit you can take in the comfort of the current job with the never ending fraying of interviewing for another possible hellhole...
Avatar 10:43am Marcel M:

Oh boy, be a good boy Bob!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Lewis:

@Rev. gets a bit nail-bitey doesn't it!
Avatar 10:43am Marcel M:

The WFMU comments board reminds me of this: xkcd.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Greg from Bloomfield:

I wonder what this place's policy is re: freelancers jumping up and dancing on their desks...
Avatar 10:44am Cecile:

hahhahahha, marcel. I love that cartoon.

Rev, and Lewis, looking forward to that scenario once I finish my graphic design certificate.

@marcel. if you told that to andy breckman he'd make fun of you for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am Lewis:

@Cecile - keep me posted, we have a group that uses freelancers and I could make introductions...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am KK:

@marcel wow that xkcd goes right to the feels. also re: turning down clients...you've got your priorities in check!
Avatar 10:49am Brian in UK:

@Marcel you are on the twelve step AWAY programme.
Avatar 10:49am Marcel M:

@BOB, but he would also be surprised I had a job. And maybe impressed, since he doesn't believe that WFMU listeners are employed. I feel like he would go, "Awww... thats the sweetest thing I've ever heard." In his mocking voice.
Avatar 10:50am Marcel M:

@KK Yep, I need my WFMU time!
Avatar 10:50am doca:

@Joe: thanks for the wonderful show so far! I'll catch the rest later from the archives
Avatar 10:50am Rev. Turnip Druid:

@Cecile: early congrats on that certificate!
@Lewis 10:43 -- nail-bitey? Hell yes. After getting restructured out of a longtime gig, it took 17 months of hunting & freelancing before finding another FT position. It's nuts.

  11:18am Dean:

"The Obelisk guy?" That's a coincidence, because I wanted to ask Van in DC if he'd had a chance to mosey over toward Dupont Circle to dine at a restaurant called Obelisk.
Avatar 11:18am northguineahills:

I've only had gator tail, and love it. Of course, just deep fried since it was FL.
Avatar 11:18am bobdoesthings:

adios marcel
Avatar 11:19am Van in DC:

That's a pretty good description from what I remember, too, Cecile. Been a long time, but I'll try some here shortly again....

@Dean - nope I have not. Rarely get to Dupont area.
Avatar 11:20am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Jeezus. I guess I haven't hung out Dupont-wise in a while. Haven't even heard of Obelisk. The turnover of business there & 14th/U area seems intense. Hard to keep up.
Avatar 11:21am northguineahills:

Man, Muyei Power! That was a straight up guitar solo!
  11:21am Dean:

@ViDC, It's a once-in-a-lifetime kind of place, at least no more than once a year, price-wise. But, man, is it good. Elegant, charming, but not stuffy.
Avatar 11:24am Van in DC:

I was just looking over their website / menu / comments, and I see what you mean. Sounds interesting...

  11:26am Dean:

I hope to head to DC in September to attend a conference, visit friends, and yes, maybe even dine at Obelisk. Saving my pennies.
Avatar 11:28am Joe McG:

@Van: See you later, alligator! Enjoy the Bolivian food!

Swag For Life Member 11:41am 12539:

I just want you all to know that I didn't play drums on this track either, even though I never get any credit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am DCE:

credit where credit is due, 12539. that might actually be a debit situation.
Avatar 11:43am V Priceless:

cool Joe! Eno bro follow-up!
Avatar 11:43am Joe McG:

@12539: I hate to tell you, but I didn't play drums on it before you did. I have to get my court case on the docket.
Swag For Life Member 11:44am 12539:

@Joe, I wasn't playing drums before not playing drums was cool, and you know it.
Avatar 11:45am Joe McG:

@12539: I guess I have to admit defeat. But I'd like at least a small portion of the settlement.
Avatar 11:47am Cecile:

People should pay me to not drum on their records. They will be the better for it.
Avatar 11:50am Cecile:

ah, K. Leimer/Savant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Andrew Waterloo:

He's a percussionist, they're probably paying him to not play drums , triangle, and marimba.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am KevinfromBayRidge:

Joe, I could arrange that for not a small %.
  11:52am Dean:

You know, Max Roach didn't drum on Starless, either. And you can hear it, too, because that album SWINGS!
