Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Options May 22, 2014: Street Interviews with PACE U Grads/Music --- A Story "Kiss You By A Tree" - C. Pigeon

Listen to this show:  Pop‑up player!

Artist Track Album Label Year Format Comments Approx. start time
that's new age from Checkfield in the background ... love it ... no irony ...i love its gentleness
Talking with PACE Graduates at Madison Square Garden
I was attempting to mix pre-recorded interview segments with live DJ'ing (talking and playing records) --- The interviews were all on one cassette with six-seconds of space between them. It's tough to wrangle a dual cassette deck that way and records and talking. Fun though. I like the danger of flopping and dead air, boith of which you'll hear this hour.
LIVE In the Studio
I don't know if you know this but I am scared sh----ss when I first go on mic alone. Every time. It's fun, but I wish I could be relaxed ... that comes later. It's probably that way with most of the FMU joxx.
that background music was by Glenn Scott "SYLK130" on Giant Steps rex.
An Interview with Zan at MSG - a PACE graduate from China

Nazareth  Shanghai'd in Shanghai   Options Hot Tracks  A&M  1974  LP  I saw Nazareth live in 75 with Slade, Thin Lizzy, and the Ian Gillan Band - Omaha Civic Auditorium - $5

Jerry Vale  Go Chase a Moonbeam   Options Jerry Vale's Greatest Hits  Columbia  1958 (the year I was  LP  RIP - I'll miss Jerry Vale. He may not have had the noteriety of Sinatra, Martin, etc., but he was a fine singer and in his heyday he was much loved by his fans and the public at large.

Here's a beautiful song sung by Mr. Vale ... always remember ...

"KIss You By A Tree" an improv by Clay Pigeon
I hope you enjoyed this story. I really had fun recording it. I made this one up as I laid (lay) on my davenport a couple of Saturday nights ago - blown out from a 3-hour drive home from Deleware County. This actually isn't a "new" character as some suggested ... he was originally "Snakey" from Dusty Show Xmas 2009: http://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/34133

It's 12:40am Wednesday, May 28th, 2014 as I am writing this. I hope you are happy and doing well in your life. Keep tuning in, my friend, and stay with me as the years unfold ... CP NYC

hi, Clay.
Avatar 6:03pm Cecile:

The lady speaks the truth.
Avatar 6:03pm Night Owl:

ARS hits...."Doraville", "I'm Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight", "Champagne Jam", "So in to You", "Imaginary Lover", "Do It Or Die", "Neon Nites", and a cover version of the Classics IV hit, "Spooky"
  6:03pm Oscar:

What's up with the sound? It's so low and distorted
Avatar 6:03pm V Priceless:

Hey Pidge!
Avatar 6:04pm dale:

  6:04pm Oscar:

never mind... my phone just broke :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Carmichael:

Hey Cecile, continuing from the last board, So Into You and Wouldn't Want to Be Like You were both written in 1977. I wonder if that guitar riff was just common at the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm davex:

Hi Clay - good to see the Thursday evening power lineup is staying solid.
Avatar 6:05pm Night Owl:

Hot and sticky here in the Burg. I saw the Blues Brothers at Taste Of Pinellas last weekend. Dan and Jim Belushi.
Avatar 6:05pm Cecile:

Could be, Carm!
Avatar 6:05pm Clay Pigeon:

Hi Cecile and others here. Glad you showed up!
  6:06pm unkle eddy:

I wore my tie on the outside of my gown for highschool graduation, i will do the same in a yeAr when i graduate fron alfred university
Avatar 6:07pm Cecile:

My graduation consisted of me giving flowers to all my friends, and after the ceremony was over, I literally ran out of the auditorium. Couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Then I went to my own quiet graduation open house, and my friends, and then some other friends came over and we went to see the China Syndrome. Then we were up until 2:00 talking.

the next day I went to a picnic, and ended up meeting my first boyfriend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm common:

hey clay! made it home to catch you! hello everyone!
Avatar 6:10pm Cecile:

my mom tricked me out of a college graduation party, so I didn't go to my college graduation. I will definitely go to my community college graduation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm common:

that sounds good, cecile! i remember drinking a 40 on a house in n.c. after my college graduation. it was a nice eve.
  6:10pm Robert:

The Chinese still remember Nixon as their friend. There being no Democratic equivalent to Nixon, they'll tend to favor the Republicans.
  6:11pm Robert:

We think of him as Tricky Dick, they think of him as the one who got them some respect here.
Avatar 6:12pm Night Owl:

I didn't find out until the day of graduation that my art teacher was going to let me pass her class and graduate. I had to drive to the high school for something and then straight to the Bayfront Center to graduate with my class. I had tennis shoes on. My mom, sister, and step-father drove from Detroit to surprise me. I hadn't seen or talked to her in 2 years since they kicked me out to go live my dads sister in Florida.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Carmichael:

I don't remember my HS graduation. I was older than everyone else in college, because I went into the military first (after slumming around in the UK). So no graduation ceremonies there, either.
Avatar 6:12pm Cecile:

Nixon did a few things very right, but it doesn't make up for him help crap up the political process for good
Avatar 6:12pm V Priceless:

@ Robert - interesting point. So the Chinese are the only population that have fond recollections of Nixon then, it's safe to say? : )
Avatar 6:12pm Cecile:

helping to crap up.
  6:12pm Fredericks:

Hey, this Nazareth sounds great..
Avatar 6:13pm Cecile:

the Chinese and my dad, VP.
Avatar 6:13pm dale:

i remember a great night, for a lot of my friends it was their last night in college town usa and everyone was gonna enjoy themselves. next day i was filled with dread - as a painting major didn't have a lot of prospects in a small upstate town.
Avatar 6:13pm V Priceless:

haha..why didn't I save my Spiro Agnew punching bag! Argh!!
  6:13pm Robert:

Priceless, they may be the only NATIONAL popul'n with a favorable impression of Nixon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Carmichael:

@Cecile: Ha! That's what happens when people trust the Commander in Chief.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm common:

i love the steve martin bit on a record i have that was recroded shortly after watergate and all. something about steve feeling sorry for him, walking around on a beach in bermuda shorts with a metal detector.
Avatar 6:15pm Cecile:

what a nice, corny song. I'm sentimental toward medical professionals
  6:15pm Robert:

I look at Nixon as a member of the set of very DANGEROUS presidents the US had in the 1960s.
Avatar 6:16pm dale:

this would make part of a great memorial day set
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm davex:

I wonder if there's a term for changing the key with those "ah-ah" vocals.
Avatar 6:17pm Clay Pigeon:

modulation davex
  6:17pm Robert:

The 1960s presidents were not the absolute worst in terms of their results, but they were each almost disastrous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Carmichael:

I wonder if Barry Sadler ever saluted substitute teachers ....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm davex:

Thanks, Clay!
  6:19pm Robert:

I went thru one graduation too many. I'm convinced my career would've gone much better had something caused me to get out a year earlier with a M.S. than sticking it out for my Ph.D.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm Carmichael:

... or janitors.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm common:

or sweat shop workers, charmichael
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm common:

sorry, carmichael
Avatar 6:21pm Night Owl:

I got an AA in Music Theory when I was 21 from Florida School of the Arts, 2.7 GPA... then dropped out of University of Florida Music Department after 1 semester. I went back to Community College when I was 37 and got an AA in Computer Programming, 4.0 GPA. They combined the 2 GPA's which gave me a 3.3 GPA overall if I remember correctly. They put a 'Cum Laude' on my second diploma. Mom was proud finally. I might as well wipe my ass with those 2 diplomas.
Avatar 6:21pm Cecile:

this song is why rock 'n' roll had to happen
  6:21pm normal:

@common: reminds me of the LP cover of Neil young's On the beach
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm common:

@normal: oh the steve martin thing...totally! good call!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Carmichael:

I think Pat Boone's version of Tutti Frutti was the final nail in the coffin for pop.
Avatar 6:22pm V Priceless:

Jimi Hendrix is my favorite "Marshall" artist
Avatar 6:23pm Clay Pigeon:

@VPricelss ... What about Yngwie!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm Davis:

carmichael, he definitely tried to fuck everything up with that, but, thankfully, no-one on earth listens to his records anymore. Little Richard still rules
Avatar 6:25pm Cecile:

it's better than NOT having one.
Avatar 6:26pm Clay Pigeon:

I think this TT is slow...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm common:

i really hope i never hear, "moving forward" again...but i know i shall. cringe.
Avatar 6:26pm V Priceless:

is this the right speed? : )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Matt from Springfield:

Avatar 6:28pm Night Owl:

Anyone with brains should take the $120K tuition fees and buy some books on finances and Business and start their own business in a recession proof field.
Avatar 6:28pm V Priceless:

Hey..let us not forget Pat Boone covered Alice Cooper..or maybe we should forget?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm common:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Matt from Springfield:

What Marcel said. The dockworkers loading cargo in "On The Waterfront" (Brando!!! ;) were that type of stevedore.

"It started as a phonetic spelling of estivador (Portuguese) or estibador (Spanish), meaning a man who stuffs, here in the sense of a man who loads ships, which was the original meaning of stevedore"
