Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Into The Hard Sun - a story by The PIdge.

This one was done in one-sitting and was improvised as opposed to being written-out. Inspired by my mid-western upbringing, I'm sure.

Enjoyed doing that story. I really appreciate your listening. Don't forget to join us on Facebook. It's called Pigeonnaires. Summer is almost here. I've felt the first true warm weather in the last few days, sans that cold twinge of lingering winter. I feel better in winter usually. More protected somehow. Interior. The hot summer sun is something I have to kind of avoid as I have vitiligo, which leaves some areas of skin without pigment. I love summer nights, though, the warm breeze, the rustling trees, wearing shorts, --- oh man ... I was just thinking back on younger days, sleeping out on my parent's porch and sneaking out at night with my friends, walking around town, laughing. Good times. May your warm months ahead be FILLED with good times my friend. Keep tuning in. Always remember ----- CPNYC5291499%LUV

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm KarmiKill:

Hey Klay with a K, here to hear.
Avatar 6:09pm Cecile:

this makes Bad Company sound like the Bad Brains.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey Karma Kill! Awesome twist there, how come none of us thought of that before?! :)
  6:10pm grass mother:

Clay you gonna do another video attempt?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Matt from Springfield:

Avatar 6:11pm Cecile:

  6:12pm Gee Lampa:

Klay, when u play it...say it!

What was that extended freak out track from 10 min ago?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm dale:

sounded like phil lynott after a rough night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Carmichael:

Hey, Frances!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm dale:

Belinda & Hova from Greasy Kid Stuff as well. They were the first remote show from Portland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm coelacanth:

IKE -My comment disappeared into a black hole before; But i use realplayer for archives,(& i'm using it now) because it works infinitely better for me than real alternative. The Rix archives are the only ones i've ever tried that don't work...And i listen to lots of "real" archives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Matt from Springfield:

Sweet MOPAL! Thanks Frances! :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Matt from Springfield:

Oh wow, Clay's already a camera addict, the microphone is such a gateway communication tool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Ike:

@coelacanth -- oh, hmm. Haven't tried those lately myself.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm Matt from Springfield:

"Ka-lone", only appropos when you're saying "eau de Cologne".

YES Clay! The Paris roadshow was great, you should do that more often when you go to exotic places!
Avatar 6:20pm sFrances from PDX:

Hey y'all ! It's great to be living back in PDX! A little weird getting used to the PST WFMU schedule vs EST . A new world!
  6:21pm Gee Lampa:

Thank kew, Papi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Matt from Springfield:

Have you SEEN our airports?! And highways?! And (lack of) public transport?! If I wasn't from here I'd say America is a terrible place to vacation as well! ;)
Avatar 6:22pm northguineahills:

Thanks Clay, Fabio, and pigeonaires, Gotta go! salut!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm whiteslice:

that was an awesome fade
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm davex:

Yes, I said Schlitz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Matt from Springfield:

Welcome to 3 hours in the future, Frances!
Have you listened to KBOO since arriving? They're another freeform hyper-independent station, spirit-kin to WFMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Matt from Springfield:

Props to Miss Bethany R! Talk over that Classical, Clay!
AMERICA!! Now this is a *great* band to vacation to! (in your mind)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm dale:

no gennie cream?
  6:25pm grass mother:

Anybody know any WFMU-like stations out in LA?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm davex:

Well, friends actually were over in the U.S. on a vacation last year, just in time for the National Parks to be shut down. But they had a good time anyway, I think.
Avatar 6:26pm Clay Pigeon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Matt from Springfield:

I keep confusing Schlitz with Shotz, where Laverne and Shirley worked. Or that Lake Erie water beer SNL used to advertise.
Avatar 6:26pm sFrances from PDX:

Matt:I used to listen to KBOO some when I lived here before-- but I never quite cottoned to it like WFMU + my own music library + comedy podcasts ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Matt from Springfield:

Never a dull moment for sure, davex!
  6:27pm P-90:

I like the sound of that "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood" piano sound behind Clay when he's talking to the listeners.

OK I know that was Messiaen, but it was some especially Mr. Rogers-sounding Messiaen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm chris:

@grass mom, there's only one WFMU! :-) KXLU?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm davex:

Yeah, you just have to make the best of everything, I suppose. They were quite "amused" at the shutdown, though.
Avatar 6:29pm cosmic matrix:

oh my god that last song was so good, why did the snare drum sound so good??
Avatar 6:30pm Clay Pigeon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Matt from Springfield:

@grass mom: I've heard good things about KXLU for quality radio; I've also heard good things about KFJC, but apparently Los Altos is in the Bay Area, not near LA..
  6:31pm P-90:

Clay as Joe Frank.
  6:31pm P-90:

OMG that's a brilliant parody of Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Matt from Springfield:

Ha ha, Clay Frank!
  6:33pm Gee Lampa:

LOL. A "Vantage". I used to steal them from my mother. Even if you tore the filter off, it was like toking on wind.
Avatar 6:33pm Clay Pigeon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm fleep:

@grass mom Henry Rollins hosts a show on KCRW Sunday evenings that is worth the time, the rest of the station is a little too slick and an all day ad for itself. KPFK has a few good shows among the painfully politcally correct ones.
  6:34pm P-90:

The Vantage reference was funny
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm dale:

crutch rubber - great band name.
  6:35pm P-90:

@ dale: ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm fleep:

And then he hit a deer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Carmichael:

Joe Pigeon??
Avatar 6:36pm Clay Pigeon:

i made this one up as i went
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Matt from Springfield:

Clay just wants to rock our Gypsy souls...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: Also works, but that sounds like a "Joe FrankLIN" type show from Clay.

@fleep: Oh God not that again!! :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm common:

hi clay! personages
  6:38pm P-90:

"Crutch Rubber" -- lemme guess, a band that plays retirement community rec centers in Florida

...Clay's gonna make it impossible to take Joe halfway seriously
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Carmichael:

On my way to beersies, common.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Matt from Springfield:

Evening, you fine personage!
  6:38pm Gee Lampa:

having a beersie right now, carmichael! hey matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Matt from Springfield:

  6:40pm P-90:

@Clay you are DEconstructing Joe Frank. I've been listening to Joe since the '80's, and I'm speechless
  6:40pm grassmother:

@ fleep I've caught that Rollins show a few times, it's excellent. King Buzzo was on last time I was there. Moving out there, that's why I ask
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Carmichael:

Are you kids on the hemp again??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Matt from Springfield:

@grassmother: That's cool. Let us know if you find anything great coming out of LA.

Almost all my listening is to FMU, but its example has taught me that good radio hasn't been completely abandoned--if you find some anywhere, nurture it! Spread it around!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm davex:

A touch of Kinsella?
  6:42pm P-90:

a Skelly station!
Avatar 6:43pm sFrances from PDX:

Enjoying Eugene,OR Nankisi Pale Ale myself !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: It's like a rope lifeline, keeping you afloat, man!...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Matt from Springfield:

@P-90: Wow, merged to form Getty Oil. Like Sinclair's dinosaur, that was a long-faded brand from the U.S. highway landscape.

In any case, I love love love your show.
I live in NYC now, have been a musician for 20 years or so,
your show is bringing back many many many memories of my life on the Nebraska prairie.
Any way, here's to your roots, your hoots and your boots!

Cathy cried, she always cried, when we drove over the bridge where Alvin was killed...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm common:

you're a poet, clay
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Matt from Springfield:

@ironchef nate: Yes! It's like a bit of neo-Beatnik, stream-of-consciousness eloquent in it's observation!
Avatar 6:48pm Clay Pigeon:

ty common
Avatar 6:48pm steve:

you improvised this?? that's impressive Clay
  6:48pm P-90:

LOL Ingmar's hole-in one!

We GOTTA send this to Joe
We could do it anonymously...
  6:50pm Gee Lampa:

It's the details that create the dreamlike ambiance;

"..driving 54 miles-per-hour".
  6:50pm cort:

almost cried few xxx
  6:50pm Gee Lampa:

Now Ulysses?
  6:51pm P-90:

Cathy's still crying! Hahahaha
Avatar 6:52pm Clay Pigeon:

i went to do interviews this week ... twice ... but lost my nerve. it happens sometimes. was going to do an all music show, but i always feel like that disappoints you. i love going on with Fab, but don't want to do it too much. i'm still trying to find out was my real voice is on the radio. i get lost in kaseyland, but i AM glad they found him. mostly, i wrestle with not having enough time ... just like you. thanks for listening. better get ready for hearty. always remember.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Matt from Springfield:

Say as many Great Plains cities and towns as you can, while I fade you out!... ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm common:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm coelacanth:

Brilliant,Clay. Thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm common:

  6:55pm P-90:

Hat's-off, Clay! I literally cannot imagine a funnier, more brilliantly observed take-off on Joe!
Bravo! Encore!

Avatar 6:56pm cosmic matrix:

  6:56pm kat330:

If people around here would have said "Kathy" the way you do, Clay, I'd never have insisted on being called "Kathleen" later in life. ;)

Cool show.
  6:56pm P-90:

I think he's ruined the real Joe for me...
Avatar 6:57pm the glowing one:

I can't help but imagine how Clay is making the story up the the moment he is recording it. One mighty never ending stream of consciousness. No pauses no edits.
  6:57pm Gee Lampa:

I'm gonna guess this is U.K.
