Matt-Maaaan... duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh...
Avatar 2:01pm Parq:

Holy Hammond, MattMan! (Or is it a Farfisa?)
Avatar 2:01pm Monica:

alright then!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm listener james from westwood:

How do, Matt and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Matt F:

Hi everbody! Mashed Potatoes if you wanna...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm pacific standard simon:

Holee guacamole, Matt-Man, I'm feeling a little green around the gills! Too much tequila in my fish tank.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm fleep:

I'm organ-ized.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm pacific standard simon:

So that was MY poor life decision, last night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Matt F:

We've all been there. My current hangover cure: salt & vinegar potato chips and a can of ginger ale.
Avatar 2:09pm still b/p:

Holy moley hully gully wooly bully funky monkey groove it move it -- and hinky dinky if Unca Michael will let us borrow jus' a cup.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Doug Schulkind:

Salt & vinegar potato chips and a can of ginger aleā€”that's my cure for everything from scurvy to jake leg.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Uncle Michael:

GODDAMIT...I missed the start.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Carmichael:

Heya Matt. Just in time for the Sugarboy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm fleep:

Casey Kasem spotted in Washington state
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm listener james from westwood:

Man, I wish I could still do the ginger ale thing. Early-childhood saturation in the stuff following a tonsillectomy set me against it, seemingly for life.
That Kasem story was frightening for a bit. Some of the descriptions of the caretaker relationship were reminiscent of those between Groucho Marx and his final, less than stellar wife.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Carmichael:

Tequila makes me scream and throw furniture. No more for me, thanks. But a great India Pale Ale will do just fine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm pacific standard simon:

Yeah, under my house.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm pacific standard simon:

Put the lime in the coconut.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Doug Schulkind:

The only craving my wife got during pregnancy was for ginger ale. I got it, too, sympathetically. Or maybe just pathetically.
Avatar 2:21pm still b/p:

Howard Hughes might have had the trophy-winning mad-malevolent keepers-in-late-life story.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm pacific standard simon:

Tonic water works for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm listener james from westwood:

Those Mormons just wanted Hughes to give them their blood back.
Avatar 2:25pm still b/p:

I likes the ginger ale but you have to go looking for the exception or the newer craft versions to find some that the mad malevolent corn syrup pushers haven't dicked with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm davex:

The bar is open, I see. Something without corn syrup for me, too, please.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Uncle Michael:

I'm always looking for the hottest ginger ale I can find.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Doug Schulkind:

Vernor's Ginger Ale is always a refreshing refreshment, provided you didn't want to peel the paint you'd previously quaffed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm pacific standard simon:

Crabbie's Alcoholic Ginger Beer is what you want. It's $3 a bottle, though, which is highway robbery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm fleep:

For tear-inducing ginger ale we go with Blenheim.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Uncle Michael:

Vernors is good but it's not hot. I don't usually want any alcohol in it but I'd like to try that Crabbie's.
  2:34pm the beleaguered archivist:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Uncle Michael:

Is there a bad version of this song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Uncle Michael:

I need to try Blenheim's Hot.
Avatar 2:36pm Parq:

Dang, you guys must have some pretty bad-ass 7-11s in your nabes. I have to make do with Fresh Ginger's product, and it's often work to find even that.
Avatar 2:36pm still b/p:

Speaking of blood.....The story this week about young blood making old mice young again had me worried immediately not just about about enterprising fraudsters but also about blood-harvesting by criminally ghoulish, murderous and inhuman means for the wealthy who'll pay anything for the fountain of youth. My blood ain't young enough to be worth the price of a ginger ale, a donut or a few Swedish fish at the penny candy store.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Uncle Michael:

Fresh Ginger?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm listener james from westwood:

still b/p: Larry Niven postulated a future in which organ rejection has been eliminated, so the demand for transplantable organs has led society to make a vast array of crimes capital offenses. Amateur harvesters of donors also arise, and are referred to as organleggers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Mike East:

I think Reeds has an Extra Ginger variety that is pretty hot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Mike East:

that is I know they have an extra ginger variety, and I think its pretty hot
  2:39pm the beleaguered archivist:

Side subject: What is the consensus with regard to ginger beer?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm Carmichael:

Wasabi Ginger Ale?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm fleep:

It's not a 7-11, it's a fizzy mecca called Soda Pop Stop www.sodapopstop.com...
Avatar 2:41pm Parq:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Uncle Michael:

Ginger beer and ginger ale are indistinct terms of art.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Uncle Michael:

Ooh, I can get Bruce Cost Fresh Ginger in Lawrence, KS.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks, Parq!
Avatar 2:45pm still b/p:

Organlegger sounds like a character surname in a W.C. Fields or Preston Sturges movie (Og Ogilvy, Kockenlocker, Ratzkywatzky).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm MattBelow:

Zally's burp guitar needs more airplay
Avatar 2:50pm Monica:

oh hell yeah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Matt F:

Si Si!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm davex:

I like the route this set is taking.
Avatar 2:57pm Monica:

now you're cookin' with gas, matt!
  3:02pm Andy S.:

My first record-company junket, in 1978, was to Pasadena TX for a showcase at Gilley's starring Freddy Fender, Tommy McLain, and Warren Storm. Freddy was fat as hell but still sounded great -- those Tejana chicks were FALLING OUT over him! Remember thinking that I wasn't just the only Jew in that place but very possibly the only unarmed man...
  3:04pm philly joe:

burn baby burn
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Matt F:

Andy, wow! Was Tommy McLain rockin' that Santa Claus look he has today? and Warren Storm and Freddy- that's a lotta mustache for one show!
Avatar 3:04pm Mailman Tom:

Speaking of Give the Drummer Some, I sure would like to hear you play Cold Sweat (parts 1 and 2), sung by the hardest working man in show business, Mr. James Brown!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Matt F:

I would too, but first I have to finish doing this stupid show!
  3:12pm Andy S.:

Re: Gilley's '78. Tommy McLain had some early face-growth but nothing like he's sporting today. Warren Storm told me that although he'd been playing music since the '50s, I was the first person ever to interview him. He was fairly astonished that I knew his name, that he'd played with Lightnin' Slim, etc. It was my first trip to Texas!
Avatar 3:16pm Nutley Sam:

DId you ever listen to the Carole King demo of Crying in the Rain?
Avatar 3:17pm Nutley Sam:

DId you ever listen to the Carole King demo of Do The Hully Gully?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Matt F:

Sam- no! Did you send it to me?
Avatar 3:18pm Nutley Sam:

Avatar 3:25pm still b/p:

Had to come to the computer with soapy hands to clicky-star Hong Kong Mambo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Uncle Michael:

I didn't know Ferlin could pick like this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Matt F:

Not clear if it's him. Definitely his band...
  3:28pm Jaro:

Hi Matt, I'm listening to this on my phone without headphones on a street corner like some goddamn creep. Just wanted you to know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm pacific standard simon:

The real fun will start when I subject my fellow wage-slaves to this mess tomorrow at work.
Avatar 3:32pm Nutley Sam:

Thash me (*hic*)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Uncle Michael:

I'll keep that in mind, Simon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm pacific standard simon:

Sadly, I will not be chatting during Uncle Michael's show for the next couple weeks at least. My shift has shifted to 6 AM - 2 PM.
Avatar 3:40pm Parq:

Otis gets a star-click for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Matt F:

Jaro, you wearing giant falling-down pants to complete the ensemble?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Matt F:

Was it the star-click that made the record skip? Be careful!
Avatar 3:43pm Parq:

That record with a skip beats a dozen other records in perfect digital format. By the way, that sounded somewhat different than I remember it. Is there more than one take of that song out there, or am I just having another senior moment?
  3:44pm drr:

Wow, when she says "I think I'll sit it out..."...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Uncle Michael:

Different versions of this song on two consecutive GTDR programs...
Avatar 3:52pm Slater:

go ahead, brother
  3:54pm Lore:

This Staple Singers performance is so deep, thanks Matt.
Avatar 3:55pm Parq:

You said it, Lore. Just stunning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Uncle Michael:

Gary played a great English-as-a-second-language version of Killing Floor last night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Doug Schulkind:

It's almost three years old, but the link is still good (for the Staple Singers): desosquichante.blogspot.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Doug Schulkind:

Oops, I linked to the wrong Staple song. Still pretty fine, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks for the mighty fine Matt Fiveash Show, Matt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm pacific standard simon:

'struth. Most excellent, Matt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Matt F:

Thanks y'all! Next time!
  4:02pm earrie:

Great, great listening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm listener james from westwood:

Dug it the most, Matt! Glad to have you in the workspace today.
