A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

I never understood the expression: "If it's not too much trouble." As if there were such a thing as too much Trouble:) Good morning, Ms. T, and all.

ooo, nice sugarwolf. Getting my car inspected tomorrow morning and they don't. Last time I remember listening to a Kleenex CD...
Avatar 9:51am northguineahills:

that's a happy surprise, sugarwolf!
  9:53am sugarwolf:

dc pat, I think that's one of the reasons I chose this place.

Also there's a parrot. Should I play him some of Trouble's birds??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am braveness23:

I have a new pair of Society Finches. I have not yet had the opportunity to aquatint them with Troubles show but judging by how much they like music and having to doors open to hear the birds outside, I'm guessing it will be met with approval.

in DC we get no choice--one crappy, stupid, depressing inspection station for EVERYone.

Hello Trouble!
Next Tuesday is marked!

EGON SCHIELE on newspaper?
Avatar 10:01am Van in DC:

Wow, really dc pat? I live in Arlington, VA and we have a zillion inspection station choices. In fact, I had mine just last week. But it didn't have wi-fi

Avatar 10:09am Trouble:

here's a link to the new yorker article about newark
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am Guido from Cologne:

Joy Wellboy:
I think what can be irritating is her "leaving off" of consonants.
She kind of sings like a hearing-handicapt (is that the right term?) speaks.

if you actually see her on stage it works surprisingly different I must admit.
Actually it is a Belgian duo.
Avatar 10:12am dc pat:

You can probably spit on Arlington from DC if you get a good wind, but they are worlds apart.

These articles are always so sure it's 'gang graffiti'... lol.

Cool main graphic on the header of that page.

Polynesian languages and Finnish seem to have the most phonetic vowels in the spoken languages. Which ones have the most phonetic consonants when spoken?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Priscilla:

Heard the 2 Newark mayoral candidates on Brian Lehrer's show. Shavar Jeffries was so much more articulate — interested to see who wins today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Guido from Cologne:

he actually does the Egon Schiele style on newspaper.
No idea if even copies the motives directly from Schiele.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am ░╫Kℰ░:

Woah, as someone who is ready to bail on Newark, that looks like a New Yorker article I might have to skip forward for, which is a major violation of New Yorker reading protocol for me. :) I'm still on the May 5 issue.

Super good car vibes to you, dc pat!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Guido from Cologne:

Vormstein versus Schiele (I do not quite get the point behind Vormstein's work).

Schiele (original)

Vormstein (paraphrase):
Avatar 10:25am dc pat:

@Guido: kind of with you--I like the newsprint idea but not sure about just copying (well done though they are) Shiele's work.
Avatar 10:27am bobdoesthings:

@jennique - you got your swag!? I'm eagerly awaiting mine.. anyone else get there things?
Avatar 10:27am northguineahills:

Apparently, Xhosa is very consonant friendly.

Just applied for a job in Newark.

I got some Dearth Metal CD by accident. Oh dear. But I was made whole.

@ngh: you said it. I knew a Xhosa guy in college AND dated a woman who could speak San (!kung).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am Guido from Cologne:

Don't know if is an good idea to discuss here, who recieved what when, since you might detect how much one pledged.

@guido. was just asking IF people got there stuff as I am excited to get mine!!
Avatar 10:36am northguineahills:

I got my swag a month ago. Being a lean year for me, I got less then normal. I got one prize I didn't know about as I was in the bathroom when it was announced (dj confirmed it was for me).

wow i had no idea mouse on mars and mark e smith made an entire LP!
Avatar 10:39am dc pat:

we always talk about who got what when...I don't think there's any harm in that. It's already obvious that animated gif commenters pledged the most.
Avatar 10:39am bobdoesthings:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am robyn:

mouse on mars supported by junior boys is one of my favorite live show memories
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am davex:

Nice article Trouble. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that Cory Booker is the first mayor of Newark to not be indicted for fraud in 50 years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Guido from Cologne:

Nice Bacharach Guitar.

Animated gif commenters pledged the most?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am ░╫Kℰ░:

@NGH@10:27, not a lot of great lunch choices in Nwk or much to do after work, but you could do worse, and the PATH is usually good at those hrs. It's on weekends and nights that the Port Authority really half-asses (even less than that... quarter-asses? dime-asses?) us w/appalling PATH service.
Avatar 10:48am Van in DC:

Proudly among the last every year to get swag although this year I couldn't do as much as I usually do
Avatar 10:49am northguineahills:

@Ike, yeah, I go to Jersey City, Hoboken, or Harrison every other month. If it's too late, I take one of mini-busses or cab it back to NYC (to cab it back to Brooklyn)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am Guido from Cologne:

"I Believe in Werner Herzog" ... amused by the title ... guess next EP will be "Klaus Kinski lives in Hell"
Avatar 10:53am Sem Chumbo:

@Guido: more like, "Klaus Kinski now rules in Hell."
Avatar 10:54am doca:

"Satan now fears Klaus Kinski" would be right too.

@Sem & Doca

11:06am Who are you calling a psycho?:

Trouble this is the best set you've ever played.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Guido from Cologne:

"ladies" could mean "mistress" in certain connections, if not "prostitutes" in certain languages (German "Damen" could mean that). Some older-school feminists might react allergic.
Avatar 11:07am doca:

@Trouble: Imagine if you would have to be shopping with Klaus Kinski...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am Guido from Cologne:

the Werner Herzog Heiku/Graffiti:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am Greg from Bloomfield:

Slow down, I'm writing this down...
Avatar 11:08am doca:

@Guido: In Portuguese also, especially the not-very-used word "rapariga", the female for "rapaz" (transl., a lad). In NE Brazil there's even the verb "raparigar", which means going to brothels
Avatar 11:08am pollen:

Avatar 11:11am bobdoesthings:

women... can't live with them and they can't pee standing up.
Avatar 11:12am dc pat:

Desmond never gets old.
Avatar 11:13am doca:

There are some men who also doesn't pee standing up, I always find that strange.
Avatar 11:14am dc pat:

dc pat jr. prefers to pee sitting on the toilet. I don't have a problem with that.
Avatar 11:14am northguineahills:

I had a friend who was born w/ two urethras. He couldn't pee standing up until he had a painful surgery when he was 18.
Avatar 11:15am Trouble:

why don't men put the toilet seat down? that is the question
Avatar 11:15am dc pat:

why don't women but the toilet seat up? THAT is the question.
Avatar 11:16am doca:

I always keep the toilet closed!
Avatar 11:16am dc pat:

truth be told, I do too @doca.

Avatar 11:18am ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Women can pee further than men without their hands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am Guido from Cologne:

sometimes it is hard for men peeing on the seat, for several reasons ...

- half errection because of bladder pressure, incompatible a woman's toilet with the seat mounted too much to the front, which is not nice.

- Or a certain shrunken organ that would squirt right under the ... also not very nice ...
Avatar 11:21am dc pat:

@bobdoes: I always close the top lid but have wondered if that secretly pisses women off too.
Avatar 11:22am bobdoesthings:

haha... ugh wI make one dumb pee joke and look what happens.. toilet talk on wfmu boards
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am Guido from Cologne:

Daisy Chain were so good!
Listened to their album yesterday.
(... follow up group Birtha were also great)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am robyn:

a southern friend of mine explained putting the top lid down was "a Southern thing"...which I found baffling but ok
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am SeanG:

oooh I like this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am Guido from Cologne:

You have to go to the WFMU boards in order to learn about the real hardships of the "strong sex".
Avatar 11:29am northguineahills:

My fiancee and I put the toilet seat up or down, according to our excretory needs. However, when I'm at friend's bathrooms, or at a unisex public bathroom, I put down the seat when finished. I only have trouble w/ my aim if I'm half-asleep (still good when intoxicated)
Avatar 11:32am northguineahills:

Yeah, putting the top lid down is a Southern thing in some quarters. Not sure if it started before A/C became universal or just the puritan urge not to be reminded of such filth.
Avatar 11:32am Joe McG:

Trouble, I'm sorry to engage in toilet talk on your comments board, but I feel compelled to say that putting down the lid is more hygienic for everyone, especially if you have toothbrushes out, or clean towels. Close and flush, friends!
Avatar 11:33am bobdoesthings:

good PSA joe!
Avatar 11:34am dc pat:

@JoeMcG: well we're talking about 2 things here: 1. the seat; 2. the lid. Is it acceptable to just put the seat down? I don't think so, as you suggest, you MUST put the lid down too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Guido from Cologne:

Putting the lid down 4 flushing would never be compatible with German "use the brush please"-demand unless you flush two times after a "big business" (as we call it over here)
Avatar 11:37am Trouble:

omg top lid down! i have died and gone to heaven! i am just talkin about the blinkin seeeeeat so i don't end up in the water peeps!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am Priscilla:

Uh oh, we made Trouble mad
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am Andrew Waterloo:

Putting the lid down is the only thing can be rationalized as a rule. The rest is just preference.
Avatar 11:38am Brian in UK:

Great, Lord Buckley gets on Mr Cool's album.
Avatar 11:39am northguineahills:

Avatar 11:39am bobdoesthings:

or vile dirty handprint leaving mongrels?
Avatar 11:41am doca:

Domenico is the Brazilian The Sea and Cake.
Avatar 11:41am northguineahills:

Now, if you go into a women's restroom at a club, music venue, or even at work (it has happened when the men's wasn't working), holy crap, what goes on in there?

Eww, I would never lean w/ my hand on the wall. I usually use my foot to put the lid up in the first place and to flush in public restrooms.
