Das hast Du sehr schön geschrieben, Meghan!
Avatar 6:02am thunderish' Jay:

i was thinking yesterday on a new show for WFMU: "the Rodman hour", where the open discuss of vivid aspects felt in normal everyday life, can make us stop and seriously consider substantial matters about us in it
Avatar 6:03am Sem Chumbo:

Hiya, Meghan and all.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08am Guido from Cologne:

Might be fun!
Or are there non in your studio?
Avatar 6:08am Dave B:

Avatar 6:09am Sem Chumbo:

Meghan, you are doing my French heart some good right now. Merci bien!
  6:09am Psychopath Jim Fields:

I already made, and paid, my largest pledge ever this year :)
Avatar 6:09am Alessia:

Ah oui! Ca va tres bien merci. It's sweet to start working with french musi, and I work in rue St-Sulpice so I feel I'm in the theme too!
Avatar 6:09am fred von helsing:

... looks like finally i need Moon Pix ... thought i was done with Cat Power
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30am Meghan:

heheh..... yup!
Avatar 6:32am Alessia:

@Guido Alright! Sounds good! But my knowledge of german stops here. 5 years in high school and the only thing I remember is "Ich habe lust ein brötchen zu essen". Not much but kinda useful :)
Avatar 6:34am fred von helsing:

You can trust me... I'm adopter
Avatar 6:35am fred von helsing:

@alessia: your key phrase is DREI MARTINI
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35am Meghan:

My German is from high school too! I remember how to spell one of the longest words-

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37am Guido from Cologne:

I'm with you. As a pupil was was so stupid to skip my French. Every since I beacame interested in arts and French Painting in particular i so very much regretted that! (Swiss art catalogs tend to quote in original language only ... hehe)
Avatar 6:37am Dave B:

There is no tolerance for mean or disparaging remarks on "Dave B's Pure RU(bbi)SH Blather Board"

Avatar 6:37am fred von helsing:

FWIW I took German from a Herr Diefendeifendoofendorfer
Avatar 6:38am fred von helsing:

at the pub: "Do you have any German in you? Would you like some?"
  6:39am Psychopath Jim Fields:

I speak German: "Beck's" ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40am Guido from Cologne:

Would you believe I tend to write composites the English way with hyphen (or CamelCase) in order to make those contructions readable.

By the way, your rough throat sounds great!
Like an old soul diva being interviewed. ;-)
Avatar 6:41am Dave B:

@FvH - is he related to Arnold Schwartzundweissundgrunundblauundbraunundberger
Avatar 6:43am fred von helsing:

@daveB GENAU!
Avatar 6:43am fred von helsing:

I learned modern German history from Hogan's Heroes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44am Guido from Cologne:

Your composites would not work!
You cannot put everything together randomly.
It's adjectiv pointing to some substantive and so on.
Avatar 6:45am Alessia:

@Fred what about ZWEI MARTINI? does it work?
Avatar 6:45am fred von helsing:

"Radio broadcasters (and "communication workers" in general) can look to Gabriel the Archangel as their patron saint. Gabriel is, of course, the angel who appeared to Mary to announce her pregnancy with the Son of God. He's also the angel who announced to Daniel the "seventy times seven" prophecy and the angel who foretold the birth of St. John the Baptist to Zachariah."
Avatar 6:46am Dave B:

@FvH - and when I try speaking german, I use inflections like Klink

Dis...... missed!
Avatar 6:47am fred von helsing:

"The patron saint of radio and television is Saint Clare of Assisi. Why? Because she was able to mystically see a Mass being performed miles from where she was located. After the advent of radio and television, the Church saw St Clare's experiences as indicative that she'd be an appropriate patron for the new media."
Avatar 6:49am fred von helsing:

@alessia ZWEI MARTINI has been proven to be 33% less effective in tests performed upon thirsty college students
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50am Guido from Cologne:

Isn't Martini way to mainstream for native Italians?
Avatar 6:50am Dave B:

Ein Martini ist alles in Ordnung, zwei sind zu viel, drei ist nicht genug.

(thank you Google Translate)

And thank you Meghan for playing this so early!
Avatar 6:52am Dave B:

I gotta get ready to head in to work. Its UpFront season. Gotta make it thru the next week....
Avatar 6:53am Alessia:

Now that i think about it i tend to avoid Martini in my alcoholic habits. As an italian living in France I go berserk on the wine. It's a sort of meta-cliché.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55am Meghan:

When in Rome..... or France..... or.... hell, who cares! Cheers!

Thanks to climatic change we have evem considerable red ones!
Avatar 6:57am Dave B:

Here's a good read Fred....

Avatar 6:58am fred von helsing:

I've served martinis for ladyfriends and usually after a couple it's like googly eyes and "WHAT JUST HIT ME" hee hee a woman learns an important lesson :)

Fred - you might also want to check out "The Wicked Dreams of Paula Schultz"
Avatar 7:03am HarktheUmpire:

Hey Meghan and everyone!

Always happy to join you for another three hours of underwater righteousness. :)

What'll next week's theme be?
Avatar 7:03am KP:

Always dug this Stones song. It was a cool return to form. Oh yeah.
  7:04am Andy in Berlin:

Hey Meghan! Are we going to hear St. Anger by Metallica today?
Avatar 7:05am fred von helsing:

@daveB I wonder, did Bob Crane's homepr0n ever hit the aftermarket?
Avatar 7:05am fred von helsing:

And of course MAD magazine had a spinoff set in a concentration camp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05am Meghan:

Morning Hank! Next week's theme is nothing..... no, really, the word nothing.... ha!

No Metallica.... sorry!!
Avatar 7:06am Andy in Berlin:

Oh Pooh!
Avatar 7:07am HarktheUmpire:

Cool! Get ready for some requests...

Hope clay has good weather today
Avatar 7:12am fred von helsing:

There will always be a place in my absurd faintly-Teutonic heart for Sergeant Schultz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12am Meghan:

It's rainy so far.... so hopefully it will clear up!
Avatar 7:15am HarktheUmpire:

I think there are enough songs about nothing for at least 3 shows.

Someone's version of Je Ne Regrette Rien is essential though.
Nothing to Say by the Kinks. I love that song.
And Daniel Johnston's Nothing is gorgeous.
John Cage's "4'33"?
Avatar 7:17am Dave B:

Emerson's Old Timey Custard-Suckin' Band - With Nothing To Do

The song is so-so, but the band name RULES!
  7:17am bassfartz:

I wonder if the rain is what's messing up my streaming feed on the iPhone app this morning. If I just close my eyes believe in WFMU it works better
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18am Davis:

many different orchestrations of 4'33" too! full orcestra, chamber orchestra etc as well as several piano interpretations
  7:20am bassfartz:

Wait -- "I'm nothing" by violent femmes, was that requested?
Avatar 7:21am Dave B:

And from the album "Let's Go Bowling" by Bert Kaempfert - "For Nothing"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22am Meghan:

Yes.... by YOU! ha. I will put it in the list!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23am Davis:

quasi - nothing from nothing
Avatar 7:23am HarktheUmpire:

How about Nothing Else Matters in major key?
Still boring, but differently so.
  7:23am bassfartz:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23am Guido from Cologne:

Quasi is great!
Avatar 7:25am fred von helsing:

I always thought this was "Hey, big dealer !"
  7:25am luh3417:

From the Easybeats Wow!
  7:25am bassfartz:

Wish I could take underwater underground on the subway
Avatar 7:25am Dave B:

If you have to play "Nothing Else Matters" use the Scala & Kolacny Brothers version: www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25am Guido from Cologne:

considering that Flash in the Pan was a off-shoot by the major songwriters from Easybeats ... and they're "new wave" ... well ...
Avatar 7:26am Dave B:

Gotta run, switching to mobile!
Avatar 7:27am fred von helsing:

80s music gives me gastric distress
  7:27am Mark:

Odd that Hey St Peter is on a new wave hits of the 80s album- it was released in 1977-the group is two members of the Easybeats
Avatar 7:27am Sem Chumbo:

@librarian Meghan: spot the author:“Our nada who art in nada, nada be thy name thy kingdom nada thy will be nada in nada as it is in nada. Give us this nada our daily nada and nada us our nada as we nada our nadas and nada us not into nada but deliver us from nada; pues nada. Hail nothing full of nothing, nothing is with thee.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27am Meghan:

I hate that the subways don't have wifi..... they should!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29am Guido from Cologne:

bet Russian subways will have WiFi first?
Avatar 7:29am fred von helsing:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31am Meghan:

Some of the stops here have wifi.... but Russian subways are WAY better, except they don't have AC in the hot summer months.... and the trains are ancient. But they are on time, which makes them a million times better. And the stations are GORGEOUS!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36am Ken From Hyde Park:

In my teen-age years, I was at a family event with a house full of people. On a TV set in the corner, they were showing animals getting blessed in a church. I told my aunt that they were canonizing a chimp, St. Simian, and she believed it, for a while at least.
Avatar 7:37am fred von helsing:

Nothing Compares 2 U2
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39am Guido from Cologne:

Easybeats-Connections go as far as:

one of the two main songwriters and FITP-members is
George Young
- who is elder brother of Angus und Malcolm Young from AC/DC (and was even a member of AC/DC in the very very beginning)
- is also Producer but not brother of John Paul Young of "Love is in the air"-fame

Avatar 7:51am Sem Chumbo:

@FVH: And on the 7th day, the Lord created the nap and saw that it was good.
That's why Sunday is the day of rest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52am Guido from Cologne:

is a nap 4 a day still a nap?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53am Planet Tyler:

O one of my favourite songs ever. Thanks St. Meghan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54am Meghan:

Sadly I want and need a nap so bad but I have lots to accomplish today. Meeting with Ken, pick up contacts, need to find out about getting a visa to Kenya..... concert tonight.... busy busy busy....
Avatar 7:54am Sem Chumbo:

@Guido: time is a human, not Divine concept. So, for you it would be more coma-like, for the Lord, an eyeblink, maybe?
Avatar 7:54am thunderish' Jay:

the thing with naps is that it takes time of the majour night sleep, making me naturally wake up with the sun
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54am Meghan:

Oh Planet Tyler, if there is a Nick Cave song that fits.... it gets played!
Avatar 7:55am thunderish' Jay:

my nap time can go from 30m-2 hours
Avatar 7:55am fred von helsing:

A meeting with Ken ? (play: ominous theme)
Avatar 7:56am thunderish' Jay:

i prefer to do it middle of the afternoon, altough right after lunch for schedulerd and busier days
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57am Planet Tyler:

Meghan, I'm such a fangirl that I lost my voice each and every of the 3 times I met NC. Embarrassing really.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57am Meghan:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58am Meghan:

I think Nick Cave has that quality..... though I feel people are either uber fans or not at all.....

Avatar 8:00am thunderish' Jay:

here it may differ from person to person
Avatar 8:01am thunderish' Jay:

i prefer to sleep where it goes than to wake up where it wakes up .. dont know exactly why
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02am Guido from Cologne:

... I'm a middle-sized Nick Cave appreciator and somewhat Birthday Party fan. Certain things tend to be over-present in a somewhat middle-stream (not mainstream) which is not the artist's fault.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03am Meghan:

ha..... yeah, I'd have to say UBER over here, including his side projects....
Avatar 8:03am thunderish' Jay:

i will have a birthday party album cover tattoo one day

Avatar 8:06am Dave B:

For whatever reason, commenting on the mobile (riding the M7) wasn't happening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06am Planet Tyler:

@TJ, a BP tattoo sounds like a great idea. AND yeah, NC has gotten popular enough now - I think you can just be a middle-of-the-rd fan these days. MEGHAN, I have some of cool (early 90s?) foreign-TV NC stuff that I've digitized. It needs to be shared but I'm too lazy to YouTube it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07am Guido from Cologne:

You have a nap-room at the station, haven't you?
Avatar 8:07am HarktheUmpire:

I hate concerts in theaters when there's a drummer involved. It never works. WHEN WILL WE FINALLY LEARN?!

Avatar 8:10am PKNY:

@Megan - I saw Sonny Rollins at NJPAC about 3 years ago, should be a great place to see Rodriguez. If I didn't have 3 shows to go to next week, I'd probably have gone tonight.
