Good almost-afternoon, Amanda and all! Listening thru the iPod today. Anyone else having trouble listening through iTunes today? It's on strike 'round here, it seems....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm Doug Schulkind:

My iTunes connection is purring gently, but with great purpose.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Amanda:

Hmm, interesting. I luckily will not try to stream through iTunes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Amanda:

ALSO HI EVERYONE HOW ARE YA
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Carmichael:

My 128 connection is rockin' the Casbah. Hello, Amanda and particular people.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Gary:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm listener james from westwood:

ELO = always a strong opening choice.
Avatar 12:06pm Dan B From Upstate:

This TMBG song was inspired by my favorite song of theirs; the second song titled "She Was A Hotel Detective" (They have three songs with that name). Does it add to the conversation? Nah. Just a fun fact I felt like sharing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Uncle Michael:

Almost cut my hair...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Uncle Michael:

It was getting kinda long. Coulda said it was in my way. But I didn't and I wonder why...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Uncle Michael:

I feel like letting my freak flag fly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Uncle Michael:

I *LIKE* Van Hagar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm listener james from westwood:

I only take my freak flag down for occasional laundering and darning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Artie:

So, when?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Amanda:

Oh, har har
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Uncle Michael:

right now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Artie:

I was gonna get to it a little later if that's OK...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Uncle Michael:

goin' mobile! back in a bit
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Doug Schulkind:

I fell in love with a girl at summer camp in 1976. And she fell in love with me. When camp ended, I went to visit her for the week before school started (ironically, she lived in Pittsburgh). It was a blissful week. Her parents were out of town for much of the visit and it was amazing. We continued our long distance love affair as best we could, but when I came back for another visit during the next school break around Thanksgiving, I knew we were in trouble. She was acting all cool and hanging around with a different crowd and smoking cigarettes. We went over to a friend's house to hang out in the basement. When the Van Halen started pumping, I knew our relationship was finished. It's not that I wasn't willing to work through our differences, but she dumped me anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm listener james from westwood:

"Herman Munster motorcade" is one of the greatest eggcorns ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm listener james from westwood:

Whoa, helluva singalong pick!
  12:25pm jay c:

boy this end of the world karaoke is really getting me ready to tackle the day
Avatar 12:25pm Dan B From Upstate:

Ha. I bought this song in rock band just to learn the lyrics. It's, uh... not going well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm listener james from westwood:

Doug, better to have loved and parted over music, than never to have loved at all. Or to have been sent to an all-boys summer camp. :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Skirkie:

(Funny?) Story: Me and my brother learned this song on bass and guitar because the guy singing knew the words by heart. When time came to actually perform it, he forgot a verse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm listener james from westwood:

"It's time I had some time alone" was how my last ex ended things.
Man, I lead a depressing life.
Avatar 12:28pm bpd:

HARVEY SID FISHER?!??!?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Amanda:

So, LJfW, your ex ended things by listening to REM the way Doug's did with VH?
Avatar 12:31pm ndbob:

afternoon Amanda and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Andrew Waterloo:

Homer wasn't getting the words wrong, he was improvising
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm listener james from westwood:

Nah, can't blame those rambunctious rockers for that breakup! Hell, if anything was kismet between us, it was our 80s-heavy musical tastes. Likely it was mostly me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Andrew Waterloo:

I just remember the REM song from the credit roll for the movie Flashback.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm listener james from westwood:

I'm sheathing what now?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Amanda:

SO dirty, this CD. SO. DIRTY.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm listener james from westwood:

Likely the women in that film are looking for one or more 60-minute men.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Amanda:

Too bad they were usually 45-minute movies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Doug Schulkind:

I gots to take the doggie out for a play date. Have a great second hour, Amanda!
  12:59pm Sean:

THE PEOPLE"S POET!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm listener james from westwood:

::puts both hands below seat of chair to spite Rik::
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Amanda:

"But why are all the KIDS crying?"
  1:04pm Sean:

Neil: [upon seeing Rick eating the pills] Vyv, Vyv – er, can you, like, actually kill yourself with laxative pills?
Vyvyan: I don't know Neil, but I'm going to stay and find out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Gary:

Good lord, there's a whole excruciatingly detailed Wikipedia entry on this road en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm listener james from westwood:

I met a WFMU volunteer who had an exquisitely detailed tattoo of Vyvyan on his calf.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm listener james from westwood:

"Beyond the Valley of the Planet of the Ultra-Apes"
Avatar 1:10pm ndbob:

@Gary Having grown up in suburban Baltimore, I've been on Joppa Road thousands of times
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm listener james from westwood:

My fave exploitation cut is the one with the guy at the go-go bar going "Go, baby, go!" Haven't seen the film, but I always imagine he looks a lot like "Producers"-era Zero Mostel. Sweaty, combed over, in a plaid sport coat, with a cigar and a fistful of $1s.
Avatar 1:11pm ndbob:

and there's an equally long entry on Old Court Road
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm listener james from westwood:

Wow, the Wayne Newton is strong with Scott on this cut.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Amanda:

If you mail your Mother's Day package today it will still get to her on time, everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Gary:

But look at it compared to Second Ave in New York: en.wikipedia.org... ... I don't mean to be NY centric, but c'mon: Frank O'Hara wrote one of his greatest poems about 2nd Ave ... :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Uncle Michael:

This set is kicking ass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Amanda:

Awww, TY Uncle Michael!
Avatar 1:20pm ndbob:

I don't think anyone has written a poem about Old Court Road, but given that my high school was there.. definitely not Frank O'Hara though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Uncle Michael:

The ONLY bad version of this song is by Cher and even *it* is amusing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm listener james from westwood:

Enjoying this mini-70s chunk right here (and the show!!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Amanda:

Why thank you! I will try some 70s chunks in the future, mark my words. As well as chunks from other decades.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Uncle Michael:

Boomer & Travis tribute show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Uncle Michael:

Steve looks like an imposter to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm listener james from westwood:

I always like the glimpses of the mid-70s that I was otherwise too young to appreciate. It's like hearing punk and realizing I was just across the river from such wonderful music, biding my time in NJ as a wee lad, until I was old enough to grok the rawk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm listener james from westwood:

Don't speak Formico's name! It must never be spoken.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm listener james from westwood:

"Unless you have a cure for cancer. Do you have a cure for cancer? Because that would be great!!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm listener james from westwood:

Hah, great minds!
  1:50pm Sean:

... and penis is Russian for what?
Avatar 1:50pm northguineahills:

"What's Po-Mo?" (In reference to the eyes on the TV).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm listener james from westwood:

The momentary look back on the robot's part midcrawl is hilarious and horrifying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Uncle Michael:

Amanda, are you testing me?
Avatar 1:56pm ndbob:

excellent show Amanda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm listener james from westwood:

Damn, this show went way too swiftly. Thanks for the groovy grooves!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Gary:

Thanks, Amanda! Have a great week everyone!
Avatar 1:57pm northguineahills:

Thanks Amanda. T'was fun!
Avatar 1:58pm ndbob:

I'll admit it:) - though I prefer Tori in small doses
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Amanda:

Thanks, all! See you next time! xoxo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Amanda:

Oh! Forgot to mention the phenomenon of little kids being enamored of slime. We can touch upon that next week.
