Hello there, people of the radio waves. Today's show will feature a fair-sized smattering of psych -- along with other stuff, of course.
Avatar 12:00pm V Priceless:

Tony! Hello!

Avatar 12:04pm Tony Coulter:

Chir, Ih!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm DCE:

Avatar 12:06pm Tony Coulter:

Not sure where Stone Harbor were from....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm DCE:

these guys actually did a live set at the Rock Hall a few years back
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm listener james from westwood:

Good Tuesday, Tony and all! Nice to have a dose of the hard stuff to start out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Rich in Washington:

Wow! I'd never heard of Poobah before. This rocks plenty hard!
Avatar 12:08pm Tony Coulter:

Hola, James!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm DCE:

'72 not a bad year for hard rock!
Avatar 12:12pm V Priceless:

diggin' this big time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm pacific standard simon:

Huh? Whu? Who turned on the lights?
Avatar 12:16pm Tony Coulter:

Hey ho, P.S. Simon! You're just in time for the cab driver blues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm DCE:

the stars are out today, fer sure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm pacific standard simon:

Tony! Tomorrow, the Mrs and I will be in your fair city! Know any good restaurants west of the river?
Avatar 12:24pm Tony Coulter:

@ PS Simon: My faves are actually on the east side -- tho Prasad on the west side is really great. It's not Indian, despite the name, but vegetarian/health food. It's definitely a hole in the wall, though -- or more accurately, a hole in the yoga studio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm pacific standard simon:

Oh well. We're only there for one night, so we felt like we had to pick a side, and Powell's Books is calling to us.
Avatar 12:27pm Tony Coulter:

I should add that I'm a vegetarian -- so may be a poor restaurant guide for the omnivorous.
Avatar 12:28pm V Priceless:

Let there be Mellotron!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm DCE:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm DCE:

and yes, let there always be Mellotron!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm pacific standard simon:

I didn't realize. Although I do believe in lavishing the veg with as much attention as the flesh.
Avatar 12:31pm V Priceless:

OMG! VDGG! Brilliant record!
Avatar 12:31pm Tony Coulter:

Be sure to check out Daedalus Books too, on NW 21st Ave. It's my fave Portland bookstore.
Avatar 12:32pm Tony Coulter:

That was aimed at P.S. Simon ... although everyone else should go too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Rich in Washington:

Godbluff is my fave VdGG album of all time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm DCE:

I am understanding that this is a necessary addition to my record collection.
Avatar 12:37pm V Priceless:

@ Rich - I have to agree! @ DCE - absolutely!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Rich in Washington:

@Pacific Standard Simon: Do check out the East side, if time allows. It's a whole 'nother Portland.
Avatar 12:38pm Tony Coulter:

... a whole better Portland, if I may be permitted to let my snobbery show.
Avatar 12:39pm V Priceless:

I always considered Peter Hammill the perfect bridge between prog and punk!
Avatar 12:41pm northguineahills:

Very much enjoying this.
Avatar 12:43pm Tony Coulter:

Greets, NGH!
Avatar 12:48pm Tony Coulter:

The lineup of Radar Favourites included some Brit luminaries: Geoff Leigh (of Henry Cow, Red Balune, etc), Charles Hayward (Quiet Sun, This Heat), G.F. Fitz-Gerald.
Avatar 1:00pm holland oats:

loves me some l-fog
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar 1:01pm Tony Coulter:

Hola, Holland! You're right: Fog tastes best with a sprig of lemon.
Avatar 1:01pm Tony Coulter:

Thank ye, James!

Avatar 1:04pm Tony Coulter:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm DCE:

didja have triplets or sumthin'?
Avatar 1:08pm Tony Coulter:

No, X3 is a lovable robot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Uncle Michael:

Practically a mascot!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm pacific standard simon:

Did I hear some Peter Bergman voice in there?
Avatar 1:15pm Tony Coulter:

Good question! It certainly is very Firesign-esque -- tho from before they existed, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm pacific standard simon:

Right around the same time they pulled themselves together, as I recall. And Bergman was working in free-form radio in L.A. before that.
Avatar 1:21pm Tony Coulter:

Band on now, Games, sounds to me like what would have happened if Karen Carpenter formed a prog band.
Avatar 1:21pm Tony Coulter:

"had formed"
  1:22pm ?:

Great pic, Tony. Love this album
  1:23pm clayton s:

Avatar 1:24pm V Priceless:

Tony - afraid I gotta just clicky-star the entire show!
Avatar 1:24pm Brian in UK:

Hello Tony, aw shucks missed Playback. They did not wake me when we got to Coma City.
Avatar 1:24pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, Clay!
  1:25pm clayton s:

haha in reference to Stargazer. Sorry new to the commenting on here.
Avatar 1:25pm Tony Coulter:

... and Brian in U.K.!
Avatar 1:27pm Tony Coulter:

Run for the hills!!!
Avatar 1:28pm Brian in UK:

Was it John Davis who was called supertramp.
Avatar 1:28pm holland oats:

OH NO YOU DI'UNT! #chilhoodfave
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm pacific standard simon:

You can get away with this because of the lead-in...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm DCE:

highly illogical
Avatar 1:29pm northguineahills:

Supertramp, wasn't expecting that. Actually a good one.
Avatar 1:30pm holland oats:

they're like pink floyd with a different dealer
Avatar 1:31pm Brian in UK:

Diary of a supertramp?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm pacific standard simon:

I will forever associate this song and "Cool For Cats" with a certain attic room in a boardinghouse in Toronto.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm listener james from westwood:

Worked nicely into the tail end of the set, that "Logical Song" did. Logical place for it.
PSS: I associate the whole Squeeze best-of with freshman year of college; the room across from mine played it every day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Rich in Washington:

So many songs that got way over played on classic rock stations were actually quite good, it's just our sense of rock snobbery (and the overplay factor) that sort of makes them mundane and/or groan inducing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm DCE:

truly agree with that, Rich...sometimes it takes a 10 year + absence for new ears to grow!
Avatar 1:37pm Brian in UK:

If people want to listen to squiddly diddly FM it is up to them but it does show a lack of imagination. Most hits are hits for a good reason. Catchy toon usually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Rich in Washington:

I will never understand for the life of me why 'classic rock' format radio stations play so little variety with respect to bands and songs which could easily fit into the format.
Avatar 1:41pm Tony Coulter:

They don't want to actually spend a second thinking about what to play.
Avatar 1:42pm Brian in UK:

Classic rock is granite and maybe slate. Slate splits beautifully down the cleavage. No joke.
Avatar 1:43pm Tony Coulter:

Ye olde super-abrupt dead-stop ending.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Rick from SC:

diarrhea from Chick Corea? what a great line
Avatar 1:45pm Tony Coulter:

Agreed! (Heya, Rick!)
Avatar 1:45pm holland oats:

pooty poot poot
Avatar 1:45pm Brian in UK:

He's got no Seoul.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Rick from SC:

Hi Tony. I've been listening, but have been too busy to comment. But couldn't resist.
Avatar 1:47pm Brian in UK:

Tony, you are a great. Time to get the spuds on.
Avatar 1:47pm earrie:

It's igneous rock!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm DCE:

she is correct
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm listener james from westwood:

Would following this with Alice Cooper's "I Love the Dead" be too on the nose?
Avatar 1:48pm Tony Coulter:

Hola, earrie!
Avatar 1:50pm earrie:

Avatar 1:50pm Tony Coulter:

Sex means nothing for the dead themselves -- but it does mean something for Alice Cooper, I guess.
Avatar 1:52pm V Priceless:

that tune also reminded me of Stranglers' "Everybody Loves You When You're Dead"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm listener james from westwood:

2nd hour = anything but dead!!
Avatar 2:06pm Tony Coulter:

Stay tuned for prunes.
Avatar 2:07pm Tony Coulter:

This track sort of reminds me of Gentle Giant, somehow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Stanley:

Hi Tony, listenwrs.
Just tuned in, in time for Hippy Hour, I see.
Avatar 2:14pm Tony Coulter:

What's goin' down, man! Stanley man, that is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm DCE:

this is interesting
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm DCE:

I had the Chris Squire solo record, and the Jon Anderson thing, but never ran across this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Stanley:

I just got up, man. What's happenin'?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm listener james from westwood:

Surprisingly straight read for Jay on this one, for Jay at least.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm DCE:

Croonin' Jay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Stanley:

Avatar 2:31pm Tony Coulter:

I'll be airing out the pot smoke for the rest of the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Uncle Michael:

Remarkable show unfolding today, Tony.
Avatar 2:33pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks much, Uncle M!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Stanley:

...yeah, and letting in all the squares.
Avatar 2:39pm Tony Coulter:

Now the squares are donning their powdered wigs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm DCE:

and the stoners are downing their powdered doughnuts
Avatar 2:41pm earrie:

And donning those powdered doughnuts, too.
Avatar 2:44pm earrie:

Curls of crullers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm DCE:

hell, they'll be snorting them when they start to chase that buzz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm listener james from westwood:

Bogarting the bear claws!
Avatar 2:51pm still b/p:

Bear claws! I was just this minute looking at today's Mark Trail, with a roaring angry bear chasing Mark! Trying to stay calm here!
Avatar 2:52pm Tony Coulter:

Meanwhile, the bewigged squares are furiously bogarting snuff.
Avatar 2:52pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, still b/p. Glad to see you're still b/p.
Avatar 2:55pm still b/p:

Still bear petrified! Somebody help Mark!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm listener james from westwood:

That bear just needs some coffee to go with his bear claws. Anybody would be angry w a caffeine jones!
Lovely suite and a lovely show, Tony! Many thanks!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Stanley:

Its was great, thanks Tony
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Uncle Michael:

thanks Tony!
Avatar 2:58pm northguineahills:

Loved the Schnittke. Great set, thanks Tony!
Avatar 2:58pm Tony Coulter:

Cheerio, everybody!! Thanks for showing up!
Avatar 2:58pm earrie:
