Evening, friends.

[stepping over the fence from Daniel's playlist]
Evening, DJ Dave M.
Avatar    Sun. 4/13/14 10:06pm Dave Mandl:

@P-90: Come on over. Evening.
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 10:18pm mariano:

Hey Dave, P-90, late nighters. Thanks for the tunes, working another late night -- though the client is Cuervo, and they've already thrown one bottle of 1800 my way (which I can't touch till I'm done with this project).
  Sun. 4/13/14 10:23pm ?:

your dj speaks dave mendel!!
Avatar    Sun. 4/13/14 10:26pm Dave Mandl:

Evening, @mariano, @?
     Sun. 4/13/14 10:26pm 12539:

(Start the rock and roll percentageometer.)
Avatar    Sun. 4/13/14 10:28pm Dave Mandl:

My goodness. Just one or two more, that's it.
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 10:29pm Whooda:

I'm thinking if the vocal track was mute on this PT demo, @12539The instrumental would sound very much like the ambient set earlier. Hoping that the full 2% rock appropriation is still available. :)
  Sun. 4/13/14 10:29pm P-90:

This is different than the final release version, isn't it?
Tempting to say better
Avatar    Sun. 4/13/14 10:29pm Dave Mandl:

We'll need to get a third-party judgement on this track. Not really RnR, is it?
     Sun. 4/13/14 10:30pm 12539:

Goodness, is that a mellotron?
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 10:30pm Whooda:

RnR guilt by association with the Who.
  Sun. 4/13/14 10:30pm P-90:

No, it doesn't count. Don't add it to the quota
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 10:30pm earrie:

Does a percentageometer vibrate or does it go ding?
Avatar    Sun. 4/13/14 10:31pm Dave Mandl:

That was Townshend's original demo of the song. He always recorded those himself and used them to teach the group his songs. Often better than the Who's versions!
Avatar    Sun. 4/13/14 10:31pm Dave Mandl:

@12539: Yes, lots of Mellotron!
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 10:31pm mariano:

Remember the Tonshend album Scoop? Has other demos too, as I recall.
     Sun. 4/13/14 10:32pm 12539:

Percentageometers emit a mild electric shock to the DJ chair.
  Sun. 4/13/14 10:32pm P-90:

@earrie: DJ Mary Wing owns the Ding
Avatar    Sun. 4/13/14 10:32pm Dave Mandl:

There were two "Scoop" collections. Both really excellent, going back to some of the earliest Who songs.
Avatar    Sun. 4/13/14 10:33pm Dave Mandl:

@12539: Yow, I'd better watch it.
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 10:33pm earrie:

I imagine some kind of flick of a cigarette lighter in this case.
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 10:38pm Droll:

That Mellotron with the pitch problems was a microtonal fantasy. Porn for microtonal fans... Missed most of Pete's demos, but that's him on all the instruments -- a man after my own heart... So much respect for that...

Okay, back to dinner.
Avatar    Sun. 4/13/14 10:39pm JakeGould:

Hello folks!
Avatar    Sun. 4/13/14 10:40pm Dave Mandl:

Hey, @Jake. Also @earrie, @Whooda.
Avatar    Sun. 4/13/14 10:46pm YETI BOB:

aww, I just read that Greg Weeks has retired ... I had been hoping for another Espers album!!
Avatar    Sun. 4/13/14 10:51pm Dave Mandl:

@YB: I didn't know that. Yeah, that's very sad. I'm a big fan of Espers too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/13/14 11:09pm pacific standard simon:

Damn, late... got all involved in supper. Hi, Dave! Is it true that you're being replaced by Stephen Colbert?
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 11:11pm joeray:

I love Townsend's demos, but, always miss Keith Moon's drumming on them!
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 11:16pm Droll:

pss, Indeed, dinner time shouldn't cost half the WoE show. I probably never mentioned this publicly before, but I preferred the 3-hour format.
Avatar    Sun. 4/13/14 11:19pm Dave Mandl:

@Droll: I had no idea. But thanks.
@pss: Evening!
@joeray: Entwistle too. But still, they're impressive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/13/14 11:19pm pacific standard simon:

Why mention it, when you can carve it into your boot and emboss it on someone's ass?
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 11:22pm Droll:

pss, You'd let me do that to you? That's awful nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/13/14 11:22pm pacific standard simon:

This is romantic music.
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 11:23pm mariano:

This Jutta and Zoot is wonderful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/13/14 11:24pm Ike:

Good evening.
Avatar    Sun. 4/13/14 11:26pm Dave Mandl:

Hey, Ike.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/13/14 11:30pm pacific standard simon:

Two of my earliest musical memories are Ahmad Jamal doing "Poinciana" and Charlie Byrd doing "Fantasia on Which Side Are You On".
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 11:35pm Droll:

I think my earliest musical memories are listening to pop and R&B FM stations on my Realistic radio. My folks weren't much on music around the house or in the car.
     Sun. 4/13/14 11:45pm 12539:

Dave, one of these weeks I request an all! exclamation! point! set! with only bands! and labels! using exclamation points! Very Exciting!
Avatar    Sun. 4/13/14 11:46pm Dave Mandl:

God, I don't think I'd have the energy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/13/14 11:46pm pacific standard simon:

Such as "!!!"?
     Sun. 4/13/14 11:47pm 12539:

Godspeed You! Tired DJ.
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 11:48pm Droll:

Looks like there are only about 40 bands with ! in the name. If I just had one more hour I could get an exact count...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/13/14 11:48pm pacific standard simon:

I was disappointed when I learned that their name is pronounced "chk-chk-chk" -- I thought it was "bang bang bang"!
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 11:49pm mariano:

Spooky, this Clamp woman!
     Sun. 4/13/14 11:49pm 12539:

I'll bet Gaylord knows 20 off the top of his head.
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 11:50pm Droll:

I'm going to include bands with ! in the middle, like "Godspeed You! Black Emperor" Dave still has to shout it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/13/14 11:51pm pacific standard simon:

Has to be some Mexican bands with them exclamations front and back.
Avatar    Sun. 4/13/14 11:51pm fleep:

Panic! at the Disco
Avatar    Sun. 4/13/14 11:52pm Dave Mandl:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/13/14 11:53pm Ken From Hyde Park:

How many songs from Wham! would make it?
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 11:53pm mariano:

I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok...
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 11:54pm Droll:

[Giggling -- gonna be a fine list]
Can't wait to hear DM back announce "! Obtain?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/13/14 11:55pm pacific standard simon:

Some versions of "Stop! Stop! Stop!" by the Hollies include the punctuation -- some omit it.
     Sun. 4/13/14 11:56pm 12539:

And maybe follow it with a set of ALL CAPS, if that's possible.
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 11:57pm earrie:

Yo! I Killed Your God by Marc Ribot
(not the one I'm thinking of but the one I found..)
     Sun. 4/13/14 11:58pm 12539:

¬°Great show!
¬°Thanks Dave!
Avatar Sun. 4/13/14 11:58pm Droll:
