@KP: I believe you can get such whenever you want at the place that thinks outside the box.

Are they the kids of the Flying Burrito Bros?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am common:

bye bye kitty cat is one of the greatest songs ever!

They would have to be grand kids from looks of them.

Grand? Well, I couldn't speak to their characters or personalities.

Hey Joe & listeners.

Is that a new Thievery Corp?
Avatar 9:53am Whooda:

@Kat Teenage Burritos churro unpredictable, today they cling to mommy, but tamale they'll demand their independence.
Avatar 9:54am kat330:

Ah, wordplay after my heart.
  9:58am KP:

Kat330, re the Flying Burritos, including later members, two of them died of old age. So their kids would be already ancient
Avatar 9:58am kat330:

@Brian: It says 2014, so it's a safe bet it is.
Avatar 9:58am Roberto:

Damn, now I find out there's a song for someone named Rachel. Too bad we broke up in 1989.
Avatar 9:59am kat330:

I'm not so sure. You've got to imagine a threesome on a small stage with a single mike.
Avatar 10:03am Joe McG:

@Roberto: I hope you don't meet someone named Karen.
Avatar 10:03am βrian:

Or, perhaps I should say, "trio."
Avatar 10:04am Joe McG:

@Brian: I'm imagining that and not even seeing a band.

@Joe: Where are my manners! Good Morning! :)
Avatar 10:06am Davee:

Hey Joe, Any songs about Martha today?
Avatar 10:06am Roberto:

No, but my next gf lived with someone named Karen.
Avatar 10:07am Joe McG:

Hi, kat! @Davee: No, unless there's a power pop version of "Martha, My Dear."
Avatar 10:07am Davee:

Aw Shucks.
Avatar 10:09am kat330:

Re; Martha, My Dear, I sure hope no one's ex-girlfriend was a dog -- in the literal sense anyway.

  10:17am kay:

I grew up with Z-95!!! I remember when they got a lot of backlash for being a little too "New Wave" in the early 80s and people started to deface their bumper stickers.
Avatar 10:17am kat330:

If anyone here is / was a fan of Slint, our local Lullville alternative paper has a feature article about them here: www.leoweekly.com...
Avatar 10:18am Brian in UK:

@βrian bit of a trot for you from the isthmus, simple basic fare with the water a few feet away and the oysters even closer. Lovverly.
Avatar 10:18am Joe McG:

@kay: That's true! They were pretty progressive for a small city in PA, I always thought. Got my "Freebird," but I also got my Icehouse!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am DCE:

@kat330, I believe they are heading up north to CLE for a show in May, which I shall attend
Swag For Life Member 10:21am 12539:

Motorcyle Wall of Death, great band name.
Avatar 10:22am βrian:

Damn. I'll bring my cheque book.
Avatar 10:23am Whooda:

I stepped away, what are we watching?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Ike:

Seems like the smaller and medium-sized cities and towns often used to get the more adventurous and risk-taking commercial stations (WOXY in Ohio, WEQX in Vermont, the old WHFS in Annapolis/Baltimore), while NYC has the most boring commercial stations perhaps because they're so expensive to buy and require so much investment.
Avatar 10:23am kat330:

@DCE: Did you catch them in any earlier time? As they article noted, they initially only did about 30 shows total that maybe 1,000 people saw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am DCE:

no, I'm not aware if they'd ever come to Cleveland in the early incarnation
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Adrian in London:

This sounds like Messham's Wall of Death. My wife took a ride on it: spectaclemagazine.com... Scroll down to the second story. She's braver than me!
Avatar 10:25am Marcel M:

I really only listen to Blue Cheer's first record, which is one of my favorites, so when I hear stuff like this I'm like, "whaaa?!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am DCE:

this is so NOT Blue Cheer Blue Cheer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am DCE:

it's OK but I would never call it Blue Cheer
Avatar 10:26am Marcel M:

@DCE: Agreed
Avatar 10:29am Joe McG:

Blue Cheer feels very sad now. Very blue.
Avatar 10:29am Marcel M:

That first record is so so good its insane.
Avatar 10:32am βrian:

Swag For Life Member 10:32am 12539:

You know, it really SHOULD be 45 minutes of 45 rpm.
Avatar 10:33am Brian in UK:

@Adrian Circus Critic I love it.
  10:33am will:

Yes but the second record Outside Inside has such great songs.
Avatar 10:33am Brian in UK:

@Joe My World is one of my favourite 70s singles from Sarf Lunnon.
Avatar 10:34am Joe McG:

@12539: I think you right!
Avatar 10:34am Marcel M:

Yeah Outside Inside has its moments. I love how Keiji Haino in an interview said he was influenced by Blue Cheer and Albert Ayler and thats it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am Michele:

  10:35am KP:

The second Blue Cheer album is pretty good too but then guitarist Leigh Stephens quit (never to be heard from again). They meandered around for while but went back to power trio, pretty great one too judging by bootlegs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am Irene Trudel:

Always liked this Secret Affair song! I might even have a copy somewhere. Thanks for playing it.
Avatar 10:36am Marcel M:

Randy Holden eventually joined Blue Cheer, but he never shined with them like he did on his solo record Population 2. That record is amazing.
  10:36am KP:

No idea Dave Davies recorded on his own that far back, Joe
Avatar 10:36am Joe McG:

MICHELE! @Irene: My pleasure!!
Avatar 10:37am Dominick:

Avatar 10:43am Joe McG:

The nicest thing about the disco saw record is that he's dressed in a tux on the sleeve and it says "America's Foremost Sawist"

Avatar 10:51am Joe McG:

@Alessia: Any idea what our good friend is singing about? Something about getting out the door? Or going to a port in a different city?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am maestroso:

First Adriano song I've heard that wasn't "Prisencolonensenainciusol"... I like it
Avatar 10:52am kat330:

"And another time close the door" according to Google Translate.
Avatar 10:53am Joe McG:

Google says "Another Time Close the Door," which doesn't quite make sense.
Avatar 10:53am Alessia:

He's singing to his friend about the girl they are both in love with, Adriano is pretty sure that even if his friend is taking her away, she will run back to him, because he can take a body away but the mind stays where the person you love is. Adriano is also asking his friend to go away and close the door.

@Whoson: Sorry! The single is pressed off-centre and I tried to make it work. Oh well!
Avatar 10:57am Alessia:

Yes, and "un'altra volta" in this case translates with "again" which means that he supposedly asked for his friend to go away a couple of times already.. You are welcome! :)

Avatar 10:59am Whooda:

@Joe I think it's more of a "Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out" kinda song. :)

@Alessia Thanks for the great translation. I knew there had to be a door in there somewhere.
Avatar 11:00am Whooda:

@Mariano great gutter minds think alike.
Avatar 11:01am kat330:

A bit off-color, but this lyric startled me when I heard on, Fallon's show I believe: "Don't let the doorknob hit you where the good lord split you."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am mariano:

@Whooda: yeah, we always seem to wind up in the same gutter ;)

@Brian as a country we had such a guilt complex for blaming the troops for the crimes of the politicians that we over-compensated with the troops coming back from the most recent politician's crimes. Seems we haven't learned much.
Avatar 11:33am Brian in UK:

@Cecile now it is how to save money with a reserve force. We over here could learn from yourselves in this respect.

Ahhhhh Jesse. Great first album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Ike:

Nicely put, Cecile@11:30.
Avatar 11:33am Joe McG:

Sending good vibes to Jesse, who isn't feeling too well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Greg from Bloomfield:

He is not! He's the country/blues brother. Then there's the jazz/soul/hip-hop brother. (I am the FMU brother...)
Avatar 11:33am Brian in UK:

Jesse A draft dodger?
Avatar 11:34am earrie:

PR (and related) is a multi bililion dollar industry in 2014. It sure wasn't then.

Places everybody. Annnnnd: action!
Avatar 11:34am Whooda:

@Brian I take that back. We stopped the politicians from putting more criminal boots into Syria. Yeah for us.
  11:34am PJ:

Brian, you are relying on what appears to be an urban myth; there is no evidence that returning Vietnam veterans were spat on or otherwise abused by war protestors. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Spitting_Image.
  11:35am KP:

Oh, Jesse. I saw him when he was a draft dodger, and still a kid, at the Yellow Door in Montreal.
Avatar 11:35am earrie:

It's interesting/disgusting to see the next wave of marketing effort toward the next big weapons/military spending.
Avatar 11:35am Cecile:

Thanks Joe. It's hard to believe now the kind of warm press attention and coverage greeted Jesse when he returned from Canada in the late 70s.
Avatar 11:37am Whooda:

@PJ you might want to check to see how long it took for a Vietnam memorial to be erected anywhere, much less Washington.
Avatar 11:37am Cecile:

PJ, maybe the spitting didn't happen.
And a lot of vets joined the antiwar movement when they got back. I think more that it was they were ignored and kind of disrespected. People didn't want to face what happened.
Avatar 11:37am northguineahills:

wait, How did Doug play this Laura track back in Oct?
Avatar 11:38am Cecile:

Even the more established vets organizations looked a bit askance at the 'nam vets. THey eventually warmed up (and died off, to be honest).
Avatar 11:39am Joe McG:

@ngh: He's connected!
  11:39am KP:

Jesse was pardoned by Jimmy Carter. I saw him again soon after that on a huge bill at Tanglewood. He was having the time of his life and so was the crowd,
Avatar 11:39am Brian in UK:

@PJ I was listening to a programme just the other day and a returning draftee had the spitting experience, that was what I based my comment on.

How bad is Jesse?
Avatar 11:39am Cecile:

Doug spelled backwards is Goud.
  11:39am blee:

Loving this set, Joe. Grand show you've got here.
Avatar 11:40am Joe McG:

Thanks there, blee!
Avatar 11:40am Brian in UK:

Shall we call him Dog.
Avatar 11:40am ranjit:

Ditto! Also, it turns out you can whistle "Yakity Sax" along with this Connie Smith song and it works pretty well.
Avatar 11:41am northguineahills:

This set is great for unfogging my brain. Thanks Joe!
Avatar 11:41am Cecile:

hahahahah, Brian, we should probably run it by him first as he is Goud.
Avatar 11:41am Davee:

Thank you
  11:42am KP:

Wow I did not know he was in fact still alive. Amazing how these things get out there
Avatar 11:42am Cecile:

Brian, he's really sick. Not a good prognosis.
Avatar 11:43am Kurt Gottschalk:

ahhhh... i was walking down the street and couldn't check, but i knew i recognized sweet laura's voice.
  11:43am PJ:

Whooda: the Vietnam War Memorial was dedicated in 1982, seven years after the end of the war (I happened to be there as well.) I'm not sure what your point is - it was decades before memorials to WWII or Korea were constructed.
Avatar 11:44am Cecile:

this is a different side to Lone Justice. I really did not like their studio recordings
Avatar 11:44am Whooda:

@Brian we are using Greystone (Blackwater) mercenaries in Ukraine now.
Avatar 11:45am Joe McG:

@Cecile: This is by far the best stuff they ever did and it FINALLY has come out! Hooray!
Avatar 11:45am Brian in UK:

Cecile I did not know, not another bluddy tribute show on FMU coming up. Never saw him but I felt he is a decent fella.
  11:46am Kristin in Berlin:

Lovely set!!
Avatar 11:47am Cecile:

Joe, people were so afraid to make records that rocked on major labels in the 80s that it was a shame. The Scorchers and Lone Justice really suffered. And I might be a special snowflake, but I think Mitchell Froom was the worst thing to happen to roots-rock EVER.
  11:47am PJ:

Cecile: People in general don't want to face what happens during war. There certainly isn't a terrible amount of interest in the US about what happened during the Iraq War or after or in Afghanistan now.
Avatar 11:48am Joe McG:

@Cecile: You are so right.
Avatar 11:48am Joe McG:

Hi, Kristin in Berlin!
Avatar 11:50am Whooda:

@PJ Wikileaks " Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia from December 1956[A 1] to the fall of Saigon on 30 April 1975" that's 29 years between the start of the war and the memorial.
Avatar 11:50am Brian in UK:

@PJ Currently there is more interest being paid to the centenary of the First World War. Why do we love anniversaries with round numbers.
Avatar 11:50am Cecile:

I loved the Georgia Satellites record so much as a reaction. They weren't the best band, but their production was PERFECT. And it rocked.

PJ: yeah, right now Gulf War and Iraq/Afghanistan vets are plot points on drama shows. But apart from the occasional thing on the Military Channel, there's next to no context about what's happening, how we are fighting, etc..
Avatar 11:51am Cecile:

Speaking of someone who should be on her deathbed...
Avatar 11:52am Brian in UK:

Jason Isbell has been giving it some context in his songs in recent years.
Avatar 11:52am MikeY:

Great stuff Carlene Carter you dont hear her much outside country radio

Avatar 11:54am Whooda:

Last word; we didn't want to acknowledge the war because we got our asses whooped and we blamed it all on the soldiers.
Avatar 11:54am Brian in UK:

Is that the time, McGasko you have done me again. Great show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am mariano:

I like what Kevin Kline said in Fish Called Wanda: We did not lose Vietnam! It was a tie!
Avatar 11:55am northguineahills:

@Cecile: I concur about the Georgia Satellites.

Thanks for another wonderful morning, Joe!
Avatar 11:55am Jeff:

These are not your cheery homecoming stories.
Avatar 11:56am Jay/London:

Hi Brian Yes it's always that time
Avatar 11:56am MikeY:

Thankx for a great show . Enjoyed it whilst doing taxes
  11:56am PJ:

Whooda: I don't know where you're getting the "we blamed it all on the soldiers" bit. My recollection is that people, in general, blamed it all on the politicians and the generals.
Avatar 11:56am Joe McG:

Thanks, Brian, and ngh! In fact, thanks everybody for listening and commenting. See you next time! Have a great week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am mariano:

Cecile: it is the only thing I can do while listening to radio without losing focus on one or the other. And I like being able to multitask.
