Options Brian Turner: Playlist from March 25, 2014 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

I used to think the first 4 Sabbath albums were the shit (still do) but Vol. 4 Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage are really the shit.
  3:59pm Sharon:

All I can envision is Bill Ward in those tights staring at a mirror.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm DCE:

nah, I think they lost something after Vol 4, myself; I still like SBS and Sabotage but not nearly as much
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm DCE:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Johnny_A:

  4:00pm Kim:

Don't know who this is, but they're totes copying Soundgarden
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Johnny_A:

which I believe was originally going to be titled War Pigs, but Warner Bros. chickened out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Bas NL:

Somehow Black Sabbath has missed my shores until now... this is awesome!!
Avatar 4:01pm Neg-guh-tor:

Sabbath means so much more to me now at 46 than when I was 16. Need to get Vol. 4! Great pic, Brain Turner.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm tim from champaign:

I bought my AMT tickets too, CP. I'm going to the Kalamazoo show the night before their CLE show.
  4:16pm Funk Lives:

I am waiting for Mark to rejoin Mel and Don. Until then, little else matters.
  4:18pm Dean:

@paul b: What?! Dave Brock died?
Avatar 4:20pm Cecile:

PI. All!
I used to call the Cocteau Twins the Cocktail Tongs.

And when they stopped making EPs, they started to suck.
Avatar 4:20pm Cheri Pi:

there's gonna be a whole lotta WFMU t-shirts in the audience, which one to where is the question...
Avatar 4:22pm Cheri Pi:

Yo Cecile!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm DCE:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm chris:

That Colosseum was super. Hey, Y'all! So nice having BT on the air this week! Woot!
Avatar 4:26pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm common:

  4:36pm r i s k y:

No GWAR, Brian? It's ok, we all still love yah!
Avatar 4:42pm Cecile:

is it better to be like a porcupine, or like an iron butterfly?
  4:43pm Fowl:

You meant to play Spacehog, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm tim from champaign:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Stevel:

GWAR stretches their repertoire.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm steve:

two friends and i randomly stubled into CBGBs the night of our high school graduation and saw the costumeless GWAR side project "The Dave Brockie Experience". Dave did not disappoint. seeing GWAR the following year was probably the single greatest concert of my teenage years.
Avatar 4:55pm Cecile:

yeah, well, I feel like I'm channeling April from Parks and Rec these days.
Avatar 4:56pm Cecile:

and can I say how old I feel when guys like Dave Brock pass?
Avatar 4:58pm Cecile:

I worked in the same unit as "Sabu's" wife for years, and we're still in the same department.
She told me M&M got a deal with Numero Group and I screamed and she almost crashed her car.
  5:00pm Dean:

My bad. I've had passing exposure to GWAR, much more substantial to Hawkwind. Never knew the names of the former band, much less that the guy's real last name is Brockie! Great tribute here from the NYT:

Randy Blythe, the lead vocalist for the metal band Lamb of God, recalled Mr. Brockie’s humor in a post on Gwar’s Facebook page: “Right now, if I were to truly honor Dave in the way HE would do it if it were ME that had died, I would make a completely tasteless joke about his death. But I do not have the stomach for that — Dave would, but not me.”
Avatar 5:02pm fred:

I don't think I've ever heard GWAR. I've always associated the name with the Watchmen, I first saw that name there, decades ago
Avatar 5:04pm Cecile:

That's saying something coming from Randy Blythe.
Avatar 5:04pm Cecile:

I've sat through more of his profane, incoherent tirades that passes as stage banter than I want to think about.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Mike East:

this whole Gino Pertot album is on the FMA
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Mike East:

stereo effect making me dizzy
Avatar 5:12pm fred:

@Mike East: Did you get something peaty for your birthday?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Mike East:

nope...gonna have to get it myself :(
Avatar 5:19pm fred:

@Mike East: That's a slippery slope there, watch out or you might end up having several birthdays each year...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm tim from champaign:

Donkey Step!
  5:22pm Dubinator:

There we go! Donkey
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm mariano:

This singer sounds like Brick Top from Snatch! The movie, that is, in case there's a band.
Avatar 5:44pm Cecile:

that song sounded like "Brides of Jesus" by Little Feat.
Avatar 5:44pm northguineahills:

Oh, Mike, it's the 24th! Happy Bday. I still am suffering from mine.
Avatar 5:46pm northguineahills:

I feel like I got run over by a parade of elephants (alkeyhall & moving lots of rekkids and gear will do that).
Avatar 5:47pm Cecile:

wow, that sounds like some primo Chrome
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Carmichael:

Hey ngh, forgot to ask: are you moving out or moving in?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Mike East:

thanks northguineahills! happy belated to you. did you DJ a party for yourself?
Avatar 5:53pm northguineahills:

I was just moving stuff up and down stairs for a party. I've apparently gotten old and weak.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Carmichael:

OK, good. Sounds like you need a beersie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Mike East:

yeah, man. my body ain't what it used to be either. Definitely noticed not being able to put as many drinks back as I used to without feeling like shit the next day.
Avatar 5:57pm northguineahills:

I got asked to dj a party that happened to be the night before mine, so, I combined the events. (I also hadn't dj'ed since last summer)/
Avatar 5:58pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

the Miika Toivanen sounds groovy back there..
Avatar 5:58pm northguineahills:

Thanks Brian!
Avatar 5:58pm northguineahills:

6:00! Beersie time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Mike East:

ugh...6 hours to go before I can go home
