Hi Diane, all. The main part of this Tony Tears reminds me a good deal of Rush's The Necromancer, an old favorite.

Hey Diane! Happy Freakin' Spring!

hola, Diane! All!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm common:

yay diane! and everyone.
Avatar 12:15pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Something in that King's X vocal intro reminded me of Masters of Reality. Now gotta dig out that first album when I get outta here...
Avatar 12:16pm Cecile:

they have always had pretty sick vocal harmonies.
Avatar 12:18pm Diane Kamikaze:

Hi All! Thanks for tuning in! @Cecile, I adore the symphonic-ness of Kings X harmonies!
Avatar 12:18pm northguineahills:

Happy Nowruz! (although I believe it starts at sunset, right?)
Avatar 12:19pm Cecile:

They are way underrated as vocalists. I might not like all their music, but Doug Pinnock always brings it.
Avatar 12:19pm V Priceless:

Love their "Dogman" record!
  12:21pm r i s k y:

GO DIANE!We're rockin hard as nuts at my job! I got a zonky head cold, but it makes the tunes that much radder.
Avatar 12:21pm Cheri Pi:

liking this Diat a lot

Kings X underrated period.

T'is magic indeed.

Avatar 12:30pm dc pat:

ok, settled for falafel truck--no Amsterdam Falafel but this will work.
Avatar 12:33pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

if twitter is to be believed, my preferred korean taco truck is up in my 'hood today. FINALLY. So my destiny lies before me...
Avatar 12:33pm Cecile:

Break out the doomy panpipes of happiness!
Avatar 12:34pm Cecile:

  12:34pm ъїιι:

Avatar 12:35pm dc pat:

what do you get at a korean taco truck?? Which one??
  12:35pm Bubba:

Drummer from Styx is dead
Avatar 12:35pm MenfussMike:

John Ponozzo is dead from booze
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm mariano:

Speaking of deaths, I always found it strange that till fairly recently, two of the Beatles had died but Don Rickles was still alive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm tim from champaign:

Man, I'm dealing with a bunch of books with red rot. That's when the leather on the leather of parchment bound books starts to decompose. The Kamikaze Fun Machine is appropriate listening when dealing with red rot.
Avatar 12:36pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@DCP: foodtruckfiesta.com...
Avatar 12:36pm dc pat:

Avatar 12:36pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar 12:37pm Cheri Pi:

Jimmy Hendrix owes his career to the Monks...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm mariano:

@dc pat: Korean taco would probably be a taco with bul-go-gi and kimchee slaw, or something like that. A lot of this sort of thing happening in NYC now, Asian tacos. Asian hot dogs too. I'm all for culinary promiscuity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Scott Williams:

2 dead Styxers. yes, i'm fmu's resident styxpert
Avatar 12:37pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

What DCP/CP said. 12:36
Avatar 12:38pm Cheri Pi:

P@, you will veganize the korean taco.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm tim from champaign:

What's the Hendrix - Monks connections, CP?
Avatar 12:38pm dc pat:

thanks Rev, caramalized tofu looks right. following everywhere now...
Avatar 12:39pm Diane Kamikaze:

I stand corrected about Styx! And of course, that does NOT make me feel any better!
Avatar 12:39pm dc pat:

double *sniff*
  12:39pm ъїιι:

I think CP means the Monkees
Avatar 12:40pm Cheri Pi:

Jimmy met the Monks at their show in Germany and was inspired to use their style of guitar feedback.
Avatar 12:40pm dc pat:

nope Pi is right, Hendrix opened for Monks.
  12:40pm ъїιι:

I get em confused anyway
Avatar 12:42pm Cheri Pi:

what Diane said @12:39
  12:42pm r i s k y:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm common:

monk time!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Mike East:

I was going through a former Styxian's tour rider the other day for a quote
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm tim from champaign:

Wow, so cool CP and DC Pat. I was nutz about Hendrix when I was a young teenager (still am to a certain degree, nutz that is, not a teenager). So I can now attribute my love of noisy guitar to the Monks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Mike East:

a living one
Avatar 12:43pm Cecile:

Mike, was it GOWAN?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Mike East:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm tim from champaign:

Turn up the drums!
Avatar 12:45pm Cheri Pi:

Tim, if you listen closely you can hear the Monks in there on Jimmy's records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm common:

i was introduced to the monks when i was on tour in chicago. went to touch n go headquarters and a monks german performance video was playing. i was blown away. good times!
Avatar 12:46pm dc pat:

@Pi: right you are re: vegan taco. It's too bad all the "new" foods I'm missing do to no animals. I have no idea what real pho tastes like. I tried to make vegan version of it and it blew because I had nothing to base it on.
Avatar 12:47pm dc pat:

Avatar 12:48pm dc pat:

this could possibly be the greatest tribute set ever played...
Avatar 12:48pm Chris from DC:

All I know is Takorean is really good and the truck almost never makes it out by my office.
Avatar 12:49pm Cheri Pi:

I make vegan Pho all the time, Mr CP the Younger likes mine better than the real thing, which I've never had either.
Avatar 12:49pm Cecile:

but call me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm tim from champaign:

I like that the Monks are pretty much rhythm until an instrument freakout comes in.
Avatar 12:49pm northguineahills:

See pat, that why you need peeps like me who eat meat, but nearly only exclusively cook vegan.
Avatar 12:50pm dc pat:

@Pi: gib mir deiner recipe!
Avatar 12:51pm dc pat:

oops, I used familiar German with you instead of formal, is that ok?
  12:53pm ъїιι:

Holy cow you can hardly hear any drums on this track
Avatar 12:54pm Cecile:

this is the early weird Bowie mix
Avatar 12:54pm Cheri Pi:

All I do is make a veggie broth with the frozen bits and ends from veg that I save in the freezer(celery/carrot/peppers/onion etc.), Then I add some peppercorns, a cinnamon stick, ginger and a few star anise seeds. then it's like miso, you just strain and ladle the broth into bowls and add your toppings (pre-cooked noodles, green onions, carrots, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, mushrooms, cilantro, japapeno slices)
Avatar 12:55pm Cheri Pi:

Listen kids, I have to duck out for an hour. Voivod in advance if I miss it! *(stupid meetings)
Avatar 12:55pm dc pat:

wa-wa-wa-wait....I'm writing this down, start again...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm tim from champaign:

Thanks, Cecile. I wondered why there was no rhythm section on those Raw Power cuts.
Avatar 12:56pm dc pat:

love first Stooges album...
Avatar 12:56pm Cecile:

ugh, I'm sorry. we will keep the 'vod flame burning.
Avatar 12:56pm Chris from DC:

CP, yes it's stupid meeting week if you didn't get the memo.
Avatar 12:57pm V Priceless:

Diane steppin' on some Pan hooves!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Mike East:

@CP - I never thought of freezing the bits before making the stock...that seems more economical and takes up less freezer space. You smart. Good tip.
Avatar 12:59pm Cecile:

I do that with bits I use for soup. Just collect them up, and when you have enough, make soup.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm tim from champaign:

Yup, I have to say Funhouse is my #1 record of all time.
Avatar 1:00pm dc pat:

Funhouse rules too
Avatar 1:01pm Cecile:

it is up there. It is usually in the top 5, with War's Greatest Hits always being at the top
Avatar 1:01pm MenfussMike:

Stooges= 2nd favorite band! glad i got to see them several times.
  1:01pm jt:

Stooges/Monk Time! Great transaction.
  1:02pm ъїιι:

Have to say, the Stooges reunion was just about the greatest thing I've ever seen
Avatar 1:02pm dc pat:

Dirt is total show case for Ron
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Rich in Washington:

In my humblish opinion, Funhouse is the best Stooges album. Many found memories passing out with side one on repeat on my TT.
Avatar 1:03pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

man, i've been missing quite the monkstooge throwdown...
  1:04pm marmalade kitty:

Great set, DK!
Avatar 1:04pm dc pat:

ok, Dirt is now my favorite Stooges tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm tim from champaign:

Dirt completely captures the ingrained low self-esteem mixed with the screw you attitude of being a Michigan weirdo.
Avatar 1:05pm northguineahills:

It's a hard one to decide, but I agree w/ dc pat.
Avatar 1:05pm MenfussMike:

that bass and rock action's snare is just gnarly
Avatar 1:06pm dc pat:

^what everybody else said.
Avatar 1:07pm dc pat:

by the way, what does he say there? "Piss off" ?
Avatar 1:07pm dc pat:

GAWD if I could get my drums to sound like this!!!....
  1:08pm jeff in puna:

  1:08pm paula pc:

@ dc pat and ngh --- YES there is something about hearing this several times on FMU this week -- and now something about Diane's playing it here -- where I think this is by far Iggy's most virtuosic vocal...let alone that drum sound...
Avatar 1:08pm dc pat:

Avatar 1:09pm V Priceless:

yeah, that sure is one crispy snare!
  1:09pm bill:

My kid listened to the first 3 Stooges records in order, and the first is still his favorite.
Avatar 1:12pm dc pat:

@paula; @V: totally agree
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Mike East:

i don't own any 3 stooges records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Mike East:

something possessed my hands to type that, sorry.
Avatar 1:13pm slugluv1313:

yup, "DIRT" -- what everybody else is saying! ugh, so much death -- THANK YOU, Diane for helping to make it a little less painful
Avatar 1:14pm dc pat:

Hey, I'll switch over to Three Stooges talk any day of the week.
Avatar 1:14pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

cross-cultural tacos destroyed. Back to the RAAAAWWRRR.....
  1:15pm bill:

How many Styx records, ME?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Mike East:

not enough, bill.
Avatar 1:17pm V Priceless:

Band name award!
Avatar 1:19pm dc pat:

aw the blew the "WHEN I HOLD YOU..." part. should be crazy screaming there...not bad though.
Avatar 1:19pm MenfussMike:

i had Pieces of Eight on 8 track and still have a few singles from Paradise Theatre
  1:21pm bill:

I hope the Beatoffs do a Styx album
Avatar 1:22pm Chris from DC:

I actually saw Styx long ago and have been punishing my ears ever since.
  1:23pm bill:

Hoo boy the original Raw Power LP sounded a LOT worse

If Wikipedia and Discogs are to believed, Funhouse was produced by the same Don Galluci who was a member of the Kingsmen.

Avatar 1:24pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

What hypnotoad projected.
  1:24pm Dean:

To hell with Styx!
  1:26pm bill:

Yeah Styx - yer pretty face is going to hell
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm common:

just consumed more arugula pesto. oh heaven. i enjoyed pieces of 8 when i was a tadpole.
Swag For Life Member 1:28pm sibeliuss:

totally awesome setlist today!
Avatar 1:28pm northguineahills:

I'm going back to basics, going to make some variation of rosemary potatoes.
Avatar 1:28pm dc pat:

nice work @common. Put that stuff on pizza with the goat cheese and the onions and you will have THEE pizza. (of course fake goat cheese if you're a vegan and want to totally fuck up your pizza)
Avatar 1:29pm Chris from DC:

Ahhh. Aptly named song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Mike East:

@common, you just decided what I'm gonna do with that extra bag of arugala thats about to spoil in my fridge. thank you!
Avatar 1:29pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

clicking that star 'til it gets all infected & sheeit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Mike East:

@ngh - I suggest par boiling and then roasting for herb potatoes
  1:30pm phat:

Holy shit. That Gorguts and this Ufomammut are making my day.
Avatar 1:31pm V Priceless:

Arugula beats Styx! It's the 'Food vs. Rock Band' version of paper, rock, scissors!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Andrew Waterloo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm common:

@mike east: wasn't my idea! but go with it!
Avatar 1:33pm northguineahills:

@Mike, I think I'm going in that direction. I also have a hankering for insanely hot curry, but I don't have the time to put that together.
Avatar 1:34pm V Priceless:

Pizza beats Meatloaf (the fella)! Get it? In fact, Meatloaf beats Meatloaf!

Avatar 1:35pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I made some quick curry potatoes the other day, just cuz I had some boiled potatoes and a pot of hot oil going. That was a tasty treat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Rich in Washington:

I've been on this masochistically hot Indian and Thai food kick lately. After the initial first forkfull or so, nothing seems hot to me anymore.
Avatar 1:37pm Chris from DC:

Aw yeah.
Avatar 1:37pm MenfussMike:

fARFLUNG'S video for ENDLESS DRIFTING WRECK is probably my favorite video ever. and it probably cost them like $600 to make.
  1:37pm paula pc:

i can't imagine anything more fun than seeing Farflung live. Can anyone confirm? I would travel cross states to see these people!
Avatar 1:38pm MenfussMike:

yea farflung. rarely tour and only play shows here and there. don't see many interviews either. kinda weird.
Avatar 1:38pm Chris from DC:

Per-clicky starred for convenience.
Avatar 1:38pm northguineahills:

I need to buy some chilies. All I have at home are jalapenos, and I want to see through time.
Avatar 1:39pm dc pat:

speaking of best videos ever, anyone ever see Black Lip's Fad video?

Avatar 1:39pm Diane Kamikaze:

Saw Farflung at Roadburn in 2012. Absolutely worth it, even if I saw no other bands that year.
Avatar 1:40pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Is Tommy Grenas the only link from Pressurehed to Farflung? I was a big nasty Pressurehed fan ages ago, still sounds like a sympathetic vibe in Farflung.
  1:40pm paula pc:

@ MfMike and Diane -- thank you. that's the impression I got of Farflung last time I tried to figure out a way to see them. I assume they have rooted lives in LA and just go to Europe when they feel like getting a vacation!
Avatar 1:44pm MenfussMike:

yea Paula, I think I'm gonna have to go to Cali to see em. I'm pretty sure that's where they are based.

I read that, Dean. fun article, though I'm not the kind of thrill seeker that others on this board seem to be. I don't mind sweating, but I try to stay away from potential hospitalizations.
Avatar 1:51pm dc pat:

man, I like a good hot chili and can handle more spice than most but, I don't go near habeneros or ghost chilis or whatever.
Avatar 1:51pm northguineahills:

I stay away from fresh bhut jolokias (been there, not fun). The sauces are fine in small doses, but the dried smoked chilies make awesome red pepper flakes.
Avatar 1:51pm dc pat:

^ or what Mike said.
  1:52pm Dean:

I'm a fan of a Habanero now and then, and I love Trader Joe's Habanero Hot Sauce (South African), but I'm not sure I have the lingual fortitude for some of the off-the-chart fruit!

the DVD has some commentary, but the show was taped so long ago that the commenters didn't have a lot to say - they probably forgot most of what happened on set!
