Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Thanks for your support and pledges during Marathon 2014. I think for me it was my favorite one yet. I had a blast going live with Fabio, Irwin, and Ken, and the whole finale was really excitiing and fun. I don't take pledges lightly, I made a few myself and, like you perhaps, I couldn't really afford it!!! But it sure feels good. As always, I am proud to a part of this great radio station and I am lucky to have listeners like you! Please keep tuning in and ... always remember. CPNYC3181499

Avatar 6:01pm david_:

settling in with my liverwurst sandwich and dr. pepper to the dusty show
Avatar 6:01pm Night Al:

BAM! Here I am!
Avatar 6:01pm Cecile:

yum, liverwurst
Avatar 6:02pm Clay Pigeon:

Hey everyone. THANK YOU for all your support during Marathon. What a great time it was with Fab, Irwin, Ken, the volunteers ... and you. FOrgot the lyrics to my Hoof n Mouth song, but that's how it goes ... anyway ... back to work here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm davex:

Hi Clay, great to catch you on an hour earlier than usual here in Europe.
Avatar 6:03pm david_:

notice they say "quality health insurance" NOT "quality health care." two different things.
Avatar 6:03pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Whoa, did they recently pass an amendment that actually makes it affordable?
Avatar 6:03pm Cecile:

You did damn well,
Avatar 6:03pm northguineahills:

Tell me more about this liverwurst sandwich.....
Avatar 6:03pm Cecile:

is there mustard involved?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm davex:

Clay: Your performance was astounding!
Avatar 6:04pm kat330:

Liked that little laugh there, Clay. Back and forth, kitchen to keyboard, so not keeping up too well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm steve:

i like this guy
Avatar 6:04pm david_:

thanks, cecile + NGH. Liverwurst, spicy brown mustard, american cheese on a hero roll.
Avatar 6:05pm V Priceless:

Hey Clay! Everyone!
Avatar 6:05pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Sending insurance premiums to health insurance companies is doing god's work? Amazing.
Avatar 6:05pm Cecile:

Heaven.
Avatar 6:05pm david_:

sounds bad to the uninitiated, but it's heaven, I swear!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm Ike:

Pidge, you may have noticed atrocious PATH train service lately. I know you're not a hardcore investigative reporter but maybe we could just get some interviews with frustrated PATH riders and perhaps comments from PA employees (on background if necessary) who might be able to shed some light on the recent clusterfucks?
Avatar 6:06pm kat330:

Haven't had liverwurst that much in the years on my own, but my mother kept it as a sandwich staple in our home.
Avatar 6:06pm Clay Pigeon:

Thanks for the tip, Ike!
Avatar 6:07pm V Priceless:

Bowie sound bite!
Avatar 6:07pm Cecile:

I grew up on braunsweiger sandwiches with Gulden's brown mustard
Avatar 6:07pm david_:

love it, kat. it's one of the more inexpensive things at the deli counter where I am...
Avatar 6:07pm V Priceless:

mustard rules!
Avatar 6:07pm northguineahills:

Man, I just ate some homemade ramen, otherwise, I'd have hit the grocer for some liverwurst.
Avatar 6:08pm Clay Pigeon:

Good ear, Priceless.
Avatar 6:08pm Night Al:

I've been paying into Medicaid since I was 16. I'll probably never live to use any of it. My health plan is the ER triage nurse. 3K to pull a finger back into socket. Never saw a doctor.
Avatar 6:08pm kat330:

I think Mom was diagnosed anemic at some point, so liver was big. I love liver.
Avatar 6:08pm V Priceless:

Thanx Clay!
Avatar 6:09pm david_:

braunschweiger... that's what you want!
Avatar 6:10pm kat330:

But she also kept this staple I've never bought myself: some form of pork sausage that seemed nasty to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Carmichael:

No death wish here. I see a doctor all the time, and I will live to utilize SS and Medicare. Runs in the family; my dad is 90, and he can kick BOTH our asses. But he hates liverwurst. Strange ...
Avatar 6:11pm Night Al:

Some idiot plowed through a crowded street at SXSW this morning. Killed 2 injured many.
Avatar 6:12pm kat330:

Speaking of ethnic meats, next week it's my once-per-year corned beef brisket fiesta, whee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Ike:

Thanks Pidge. I CCed you earlier when the Port Authority tweeted a blank page as an explanation for this morning's total PATH shutdown between Nwk and Jnl Square. That kinda says it all!
Avatar 6:13pm david_:

did you give signing up for O-care a whirl, Night Al? or pass?
Avatar 6:13pm david_:

corned beef brisket... that's another good thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Carmichael:

"Plenty of room to swing a rope." Sounds ominous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm davex:

Lots of optimists all of a sudden!
Avatar 6:16pm Whooda:

Clay, I think you know Oklahoma geography better than the guy that lives "between OKC and Dallas". I hope that Okie uses GPS to get home. :)
  6:16pm kme in chickago:

I'm optimistic that eventually we'll get single payer. No one option has everything but that seems like the one that gets the most bases covered.
Avatar 6:17pm kat330:

Single payer is the ONLY thing that makes sense.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Carmichael:

Diesel is from Sacramento. I played guitar from the guitar player for a while.
Avatar 6:17pm Cecile:

I heard that, Night Al. I was quite perturbed by that.
Avatar 6:17pm V Priceless:

haha...$ 80 on repairs!
Avatar 6:18pm Clay Pigeon:

Enjoying your comments. I feel like you would have liked to hear Fab and I, but I felt the need to get out on the streets again. Hope you don't mind. Fab is leaving, he says good night!
Avatar 6:18pm kat330:

'Night, Fab!
Avatar 6:18pm nihal:

Clay your hoof and mouth performance was stellar regardless of forgetting the words.
Avatar 6:19pm Whooda:

Carmichael also from Tomato Town is Cake and Little Charley and the Nightcats.
Avatar 6:19pm Cecile:

night, Fab!
I think not doing a duo show every week is fine. It's more of a treat, then.
Avatar 6:19pm Clay Pigeon:

Thanks nihal!
Avatar 6:19pm Night Al:

@David ...passed can't afford the lowest here in Florida around $100 a month...that or car ins.
Avatar 6:19pm david_:

shorter Christie: "Me, I, I'm, I've, I'll, Me."
Avatar 6:19pm kat330:

ITA!
Avatar 6:20pm Cecile:

I know a lot of people whose premiums that have gone down quite a bit.

I have superb health insurance in a town noted for the quality of its medical care.
Avatar 6:21pm david_:

Indeed, kat. Single payer!
Avatar 6:21pm dale:

"no comment" - sounds like he's had to take the fifth before!

lot of snow upstate last night clay - skiing this weekend?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm davex:

Saved by his friend - that could have been interesting.
  6:21pm JohnEBGood:

Thumans liverwurst is the best I ever had. Happy St Pat's to all ; )
Avatar 6:22pm Cecile:

Usinger's is pretty amazing.
Avatar 6:22pm kat330:

@david_: I had a blog post along those lines. "Chr s Chr st e" suggesting his "I key is disabled from overuse. But then he hugged Obama and, well, I was suckered in and removed that post.
Avatar 6:22pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Night Al: You only get to pass this one year. After that, the IRS comes after you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Ike:

NYC subway riders have the Straphangers organization to defend them. We PATH riders have basically nothing, just the #PATHfail hashtag.
Avatar 6:23pm V Priceless:

Synergy! Yes, he's from NJ!
Avatar 6:23pm dale:

beatle barkers were big on fmu a while ago clay, people like us, ken have played them.
Avatar 6:23pm david_:

beatle barkers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Carmichael:

Yep, Whooda. And Tesla and Night Ranger. Oh, and Steelbreeze.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm steve:

i cant believe Synergy is from New Jersey... sounds so Euro to me
Avatar 6:24pm Whooda:

Priceless barnyard Beatles
Avatar 6:24pm dale:

...doesn't make them any less enjoyable, tho. plus my cat is looking at the radiola!
Avatar 6:24pm Cecile:

proto-dogstep!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Matt from Springfield:

Clay joins the good company of Gaylord in the Beatle Barkers--next year, bark this at the H&M, Clay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm davex:

Day Chirper.
Avatar 6:25pm dk50b:

Thanks for playing Sausalito Summer Nights! Remember it from my first year in college. Not one of my favorites but a fun tune still stuck in my head.
Avatar 6:25pm kat330:

If they're beagles, then beagle Beatle barkers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Speaking of comments, I don't currently see the comments on Fabio's playllist for his show that just ended.
Avatar 6:25pm MikeY:

I want this track how can I get it
Avatar 6:26pm kat330:

@Ken: YES, we noticed they were suddenly gone as well. Hmm, freeform censorship??
Avatar 6:26pm Cecile:

former HQ of GE
Avatar 6:27pm Clay Pigeon:

Jeez ... Beatle Barkers ... old FMU news ... shoulda known! :>)
Avatar 6:27pm Whooda:

Marriage used to be a big tax *break*, what's happening here?
Avatar 6:28pm Cecile:

you need to without at the higher single rate.
Avatar 6:28pm kat330:

Only reason I married my ex was for the marriage tax break (in '84).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm Carmichael:

I think it still is, Al. I'm about to find out ...
Avatar 6:28pm V Priceless:

haha
Avatar 6:28pm Cecile:

Clutch has a ridiculous cult fanbase.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm steve:

Clay how'd you find such cheery, reasonable people this week? was it the weather? was this on the 50 degree day?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm Ike:

One of those comments struck me as possibly highly problematic, so I'm not surprised. Maybe overly cautious but understandable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Matt from Springfield:

@Whooda: If I recall, I think that marriage tax break is only where one spouse is a breadwinner--those who both have jobs might get less back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Carmichael:

WTF is Clutch?
Avatar 6:29pm Cecile:

I know which one you are thinking of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm steve:

Ike i know what you're talking about but decided not to say anything.
Avatar 6:29pm V Priceless:

Fast played on lots of Gabriel albums
Avatar 6:30pm Whooda:

I had that Synergy tape and it was GREAT!
Avatar 6:30pm V Priceless:

Ariel Bender!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Matt from Springfield:

I think so steve! It was up to 70° on Tuesday! Now--FIERCE chill winds!
Avatar 6:30pm Cecile:

Clutch is a weird funk-metal band that doesn't suck. THey have very strange lyrics, and shouting chanting vocals. I like their song "Bring me the head of John Wilkes Booth"
Avatar 6:31pm Cecile:

Sorry, I have the body of John Wilkes Boothe
www.youtube.com...
Avatar 6:32pm Whooda:

@Matt that makes sense to me. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm steve:

same here in Nyc Matt - my Seasonal Affective Disorder has never been in a clearer focus what with the quick warm/cold contrasts! fortunately i dont have to leave my apartment to walk to Radio Shack today...
Avatar 6:33pm Cecile:

Also, the Texan Book of the Dead by them is funny and has an earworm chorus.
Avatar 6:33pm Clay Pigeon:

Widowmaker ... hmm. It's always the vocalist who makes or breaks it ...
Avatar 6:33pm kat330:

@Whooda: Yeah, hard to be a great breadwinner pursuing the arts.
Avatar 6:34pm Cecile:

well, i'm outie. Later!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Ken:

Hey Ike - Could you email me and fill me in on what happened on Fabio's comments today? Thanks,
Avatar 6:34pm V Priceless:

Widowmaker made at least two records that I know of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Matt from Springfield:

@steve: Oh yeah...how did you and the students like those DIODES! :)
Avatar 6:35pm dale:

this weather is playing havoc with my sump pump. rising water table from massive snow melt + rain and then 15 degree temps that freeze the hose when it heads outside. problematic.
Avatar 6:35pm Whooda:

@Kat We never made enough to require anything more than the EZ form.
Avatar 6:37pm Clay Pigeon:

Bye Cecile! Thanks for the extended stay!
Avatar 6:37pm Cecile:

Ken, I dropped you a note.
  6:37pm Penny Lane:

Beatle Barkers Cool!
Avatar 6:38pm kat330:

I'm an innie myself.
Avatar 6:38pm Cecile:

take care, Clay!
Avatar 6:38pm Cecile:

hahaha, kat.
Avatar 6:38pm dale:

i liked gaylords beatles-ish premium a few years back - ken burns, moe howard, barbara feldon and someone else in a 'meet the beatles' cover parody
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Matt from Springfield:

Good *values*...values as a codeword, at least in modern politics..
Avatar 6:39pm Clay Pigeon:

I can't get Marathon out of my head. So fun. Thanks again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm steve:

haha. Matt, everyone love diodes once they get to know them. they love to rectify and detect peaks. sadly, i dont think the students will be ready to make lazer noises for another couple weeks though, but when they do, it will be 3 hours of surround sound squarewave madness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Matt from Springfield:

Sounds awesome steve! They'll build their own NES world in a few weeks time :)
Avatar 6:41pm kat330:

Polarization, polar vortex -- weather mirroring the Zeitgeist -- or vice versa...
Avatar 6:41pm dale:

clay -thought you and hearty woulda' been hilarious together. maybe next year.
Avatar 6:41pm david_:

so nice to hear the Republicans NOT represented by the media.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm davex:

Another down-to-earth interview, everyone so calm and composed!
Avatar 6:42pm david_:

Judging albums by their covers seems to pay off more than with books.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Matt from Springfield:

@david: It's the reason why there are more "Independents", and more conservative ones--they're practically the EX-Repubs, the kind we were used to years ago.
Avatar 6:45pm Clay Pigeon:

Hey Matt!
Avatar 6:46pm david_:

So true, Matt.

As much as I enjoy the Clay-Fabio repartee (and I do), it's nice to hear the street interviews again.
Avatar 6:46pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Maybe one day Clay will run into Fabio on the street.
Avatar 6:47pm Whooda:

How have our voice and opinion been so self-censored that we can't speak about politics and our future without saying nothing out of fear from other's opinion? When did truth become illegal to speak?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Matt from Springfield:

Mr. Pidge!

@Kenzo: We've long wanted Clay to run into "himself" on the street, or at least interview on tape in his home! ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm steve:

i spend a good deal of time where Clay does his interviews in the city... im always wondering when i'll eventually run into him myself
Avatar 6:49pm kat330:

Much like Fabio's comments on his playlist today, I gotta disappear. Have a good rest of whatever day it is for you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm common:

rapberries! you were awesome suday, clay!!! hey everyone!
Avatar 6:49pm Clay Pigeon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm common:

hee hee chris!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Matt from Springfield:

@common: Did you make a recording of it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm common:

@matt: a veeedeee-o. youtubies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm chris:

Whooda, I think that's a product of the mass media and the two party system we have in place in the US. We should be open to hearing others' ideas, always, even if they ultimately don't mesh with our own. And we should always be respectful of one another, of course.
Avatar 6:54pm V Priceless:

yeah baby!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm chris:

Here's a Pidge rapberry!
Avatar 6:54pm david_:

@common: Sounds good--post the link!
Avatar 6:56pm northguineahills:

Jesus Christ, this is good. I had to step out for the video feed Sunday night for 30 mins, and missed Clay.
Avatar 6:56pm northguineahills:

Duane was right in saying Clay killed it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm common:

hope you enjoy, matt!
Avatar 4:26pm drewo:

Larry Fast played in Gabriel's touring band around 1978 IIRC. That's what I remember from seeing shows in Poughkeepsie and the Paladium.
