yeah, @cecile: we'll have to A2D on X...
  10:57am doca:

@Guido: I'm thinking about a schedule for the blog translations, I was thinking of making one song per album a day. My choice was: Caetano Veloso's first one, Gilberto Gil's Expresso 2222, Tom Zé's debut album, then Tábua de Esmeralda, by Jorge Ben, and on fridays do a song from that Devendra Banhardt compilation on Tim Maia. What do you think?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am DCE:

I don't A with that

I'll just have to translate them BEFORE I publish it, and not just see what it happens when I get on wordpress and translate them on the spot.

It's a speech impediment in many languages, and i'm told that Castilian Spanish is based on the speech patterns of a king with a lisp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am DCE:

thanks for the heads up. I will tune into that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am Mike East:

My buddy sent me a video of a bloco in Brazil of a marching band playing Rage Against the Machine's "know your enemy." looks like quite a party.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am tim from champaign:

Alright! 2nd Bohannon is 2 days.
Avatar 11:13am Joe McG:

@12539: Absolutely true!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am common:

  11:13am doca:

@Cecile: Oh yes, we call it "língua presa", or "stuck tongue" in a rough translation. It's very common in Brazil, but you're right, Spanish is all about it.
@Mike: Everything can be played at Carnival. Me and a friend of mine had the idea to do a bloco only of prog rock and Rush-covers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Mike East:

@doca - that sounds awesomely fun.
Avatar 11:15am bobdoesthings:

whose show are the Boogarins playing on?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am joe:

'ello folks
Avatar 11:16am Cecile:

that does!

Wow, I wasn't that familiar with Bohannon apart from a couple of songs, but boy, I see a thread tying him to Prince.
Avatar 11:16am Joe McG:

@bob: Sorry, I can't believe I didn't say so. Joe Belock, 12-3, March 25.
Avatar 11:18am Joe McG:

What I love about Bohannon is how single-minded he is. ALL groove.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am DCE:

the guitar pick will be ground to a stubby nub when this tune ends
Avatar 11:18am Cecile:

wow, none of his stuff is in print here?!?!??!?!?!
Avatar 11:18am bobdoesthings:

thanks joe!
  11:19am doca:

@Cecile: You're in Minneapolis, right? I'm always impressed that the same place was home to Bob Dylan and Prince and that that city is Minneapolis. Both doesn't seen to belong to the image I have of a cold weather-struck indoors city
Avatar 11:20am βrian:

Love that guitar spank.
  11:20am doca:

By the way, saw that Alexander Payne's Nebraska a couple of days ago. Hard to believe that sleepy American really exists.
  11:20am doca:

There's a little of Louie Louie on that Pierre Henry Futurama theme song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am joe:

Throw that underwater bass sound in a song and I'm sold from go.
Avatar 11:21am bobdoesthings:

are there actual words to this song?! I only know the drunken Kingsmen version..
  11:21am Listening Out There:

thought this was Pat Boone's "Louie Louie." I was mistooked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am joe:

this song would flow great into CM'S Pusherman.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Guido (Cologne):

in a way i'm not the biggest fan of that radical "mobile-first"-philosophy of navigation.
somehow i feel lost when i click the 'navi'-icon.
Avatar 11:23am dc pat:

speaking of borrowing music, I just wrote this song for a project I'm working on and realized yesterday the chord progression is a rip off of Twisted Sister.... I hate Twisted Sister.
Avatar 11:23am Cecile:

Dylan is actually from Northern MN, which is a different vibe that Minneapolis. But Mpls did give him a launching pad of sorts.

Prince is so part of the fabric of Minneapolis. People went to school with him, played in his bands. He's not quite the recluse he portrays. People see him at shows, he was at Janelle Monae recently.

I think part of it is the weather. You are forced to stay inside and read, draw, cook or play music for days on end. Especially this winter! We should have a huge artistic surge this summer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am Mike East:

@dc pat - then its good that you're using the chords to make a better song...one would hope
Avatar 11:24am Cecile:

We had 50 days below zero this year!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am Parq:

@Joe, 11:21, I first read your reference to bass with the short A, and I wondered, "what other kind is there?" Don't mind me, I'm always a bit discombobulated when Friday the 13th falls on a Thursday.
Avatar 11:25am Cecile:

ita with mike east, frankenstein it into something betteer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am Tom in PA:

@Cecile Yowza. No wonder my heating bill is higher than a kite.
Avatar 11:26am chinaski:

  11:27am doca:

@Guido: Don't remember what you're talking about right now actually, but I'm radically against all things mobile (kinda kidding)
@Cecile: Below zero fahrenheit or celsius? Anyway, I hope Mpls is blooming soon, hard to even imagine that much cold.
  11:28am cee dubbles:

man that sounds like the late great Warren Zevon
Avatar 11:28am Cecile:

below zero, doca. But once it gets down to -30 or -40, the 2 systems converge and it's the same.
  11:29am doca:

I know it sounds like a bad joke, but I dream of something like a polar vortex after all the heat we had this summer. We had more than a month over 35C
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Greg from Bloomfield:

Saw these guys the one time I went to SXSW– Sara was one of the illest drummers I've ever seen.
Avatar 11:29am Cecile:

and, yeah I had a hard time imagining that much cold and i was in the middle of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am tim from champaign:

@Cecile - Bohannon records are real easy to come by. Used LPs are affordable. I'm not sure what's available on cd though. I was hipped to Bohannon about 5 years ago. I've since found about 8 of his LPs. The late 70s-early 80s Bohannon is just as good as the mid 70s records.
Avatar 11:30am chinaski:

if you like Romweber i highly recommend his early duo, Flat Duo Jets
  11:30am doca:

Didn't know that, Cecile.
  11:31am doca:

Have to lunch right now, thanks for all the sounds and talks (:
Avatar 11:31am V Priceless:

Hmmm...a spin on "I Can Hear The Grass Grow" perhaps?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am SSS:

Ah Curly.Where HAVE you been?
Avatar 11:31am Cecile:

thanks, tim. The CDs seem way out of print.
You are also in an area where there are actual people who listen to actual funk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am common:

@chinaski: one of the best shows i ever saw was in nc. flat duo jets. started the first song and then dexter ran through the crowd and out the door and never came back. that's punk!
Avatar 11:31am Cecile:

later, doca!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am DCE:

talk to the grass, man
Avatar 11:32am bobdoesthings:

makes me think of Johnny Cash "as the grass shall grow"
Avatar 11:32am Cecile:

holy crap, she is alive and singing!
Avatar 11:33am V Priceless:

Dear Curly: you prob is obvious: stop talking to it and just fire it up already! : )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am tim from champaign:

Avatar 11:35am Cecile:

no, I'll take a look at it.

One of my all time faves.

It's a smoggy avatar, Joe. From all the GODDAMN cars between me and my office.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am Guido (Cologne):

It was on the first Cul de Sac (1989ish) album, when Fahey was still to bere-discovered by the younger musicians generations.
Avatar 11:46am Joe McG:

Excellent news, Will J, thanks, man! @Carm: Cars suck.
Avatar 11:47am dc pat:

man, what a show Joe McG. Thanks a million.
Avatar 11:48am Cecile:

yup, it took 90s reissues to get his stuff back in the public eye. I had been listening to him since the early 80s, and basically kept combing record bins.
Avatar 11:48am Joe McG:

Freeform radio for a whole other year! You people are the bestest of the best. THANKS AGAIN!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am DCE:

Avatar 11:48am bibi:

whats the name again of this movement of avant-folk/minimal acoustic guitarists ?...
Avatar 11:49am Brian in UK:

Hey Joe, better late than later.
Were you cut off in your prime on the H&M video?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am Ike:

Ah, Cul de Sac's "Portland Cement Factory," a big WFMU hit back in the 90s.
Avatar 11:50am Joe McG:

@Brian: Yes, I think my bellowing and flailing alarmed the people at U-Stream and they excised me.
Avatar 11:50am bibi:

american primitivism wiki tells me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am Carmichael:

Hunter Thompson, of all people, turned me on to Fahey and Sandy Bull. Talked about them frequently in his books.
Avatar 11:50am Cecile:

bib - fingerstyle, or American Primitive
Avatar 11:51am Cecile:

Avatar 11:51am Joe McG:

That's it, bibi, I couldn't remember. Thanks, Cecile.

@Carmichael first time I ever heard of an oud was when I bought Sandy Bull's E Pleurbum Funk (totally wrong spelling)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am Matt ww:

Joe I wish you could see me air guitaring right now. I've got this song figured out
Avatar 11:54am Joe McG:

Re-enact it tomorrow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am Guido (Cologne):

"primitivism" refers to "primitivist" composers from late romantic era, as opposed to "academic" composers ... such as Rimsky Kosakoff, Villa Lobos, etc.
... not just "primitive music" ... just saying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am KevinfromBayRidge:

Hey Brian, how does it feel to be the 1.2 mill man!
