Avatar 9:15am Whooda:

I hope she was paid union wages for that horn section.
Avatar 9:16am Honey Water:

Even if skipping ahead a few decades, Nina Simone's "Buck" would fit well in this opening theme. It's a fine, fine "in the mood" song.
Avatar 9:16am fred von helsing:

the WayBack Machine is functioning flawlessly
Avatar 9:19am fred von helsing:

Avatar 9:31am fred von helsing:

was in a Chicago blues club. Gal comes out. She said the wisest thing ever. She said:

Now I'm going to sing you some songs. If you don't have the blues, I'm going to give them to you. And if you do have the blues, I'm going to take them away.

Avatar 9:32am Honey Water:

Was she true to her word, and which way did you go?
Avatar 9:34am fred von helsing:

she was true to her word, and she gave me the blues.
  9:35am mike east:

Awesome opening set and loving the sweet bass lines in this one
Avatar 9:35am Joe McG:

I like that, Fred!
Avatar 9:37am Honey Water:

  9:51am mike east:

@bibi and alessia: I think Frangry and Michele brought up listeners on their show once. I'm not sure if anyone else has. OK, want to be my co-hosts next year? Short trip from overseas, I guarantee.
Avatar 11:14am bibi:

hm, wolfgang's pledge sounds sexier than my late 70s blond haircut....
Avatar 11:15am Alessia:

I'm currently reading Big Day Coming: Yo La Tengo and the Rise of Indie rock by Jesse Jarnow. It's a pretty sweet reading and very much interesting bibi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am joe:

I'm such a sucker for Middle Eastern music through Western arrangement.
Avatar 11:17am Joe McG:

@Alessia: Jesse is a WFMU DJ. Check out his playlists!
Avatar 11:17am Alessia:

@Joe this is really a good reason to think about an overseas trip! Would be so much fun! I hope you don't mind italian accent.
  11:17am Wolfgang Puck:

I love cooking pro bono, just bring the ingredients. Pick me up dome German Shepard Seasoning and some genuine imitation Elk meat.
Avatar 11:18am bibi:

lets be definitely selfish and ask for a summer marathon in europe. like in barcelona for example...
Avatar 11:18am Joe McG:

@bibi: A FINE idea!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am joe:

This reminds me a lot of a band called Iceburn who was sometimes unfairly associated as a hardcore band because of their record label affiliation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am Greg from Bloomfield:

I'll be answering phones for YLT! What were the big songs this year...Blurred Lines? Get Lucky? Wrecking Ball? That one about the gold teeth Maybach something something something...
Avatar 11:20am Joe McG:

@Greg: They know all the Miley Cyrus tunes, don't worry.
Avatar 11:21am bibi:

isnt it some kind of semi-marathon when you settle in primavera sound ?
Avatar 11:22am duke:

That Tatvamasi was very nice. So is this one. Good set!
Avatar 11:23am Cecile:

They should do "Do You Wanna Get Funky WIth Me"
Avatar 11:23am Joe McG:

Thanks, duke! @bibi: Sort of, I guess, except we don't put out buckets for euros. Maybe we should start!
Avatar 11:24am Alessia:

Bibi is getting serious.
Avatar 11:24am Sem Chumbo:

This Live at Bar Bozo 1995 has yielded some amazing music. Glad FMU has a copy, 'cause I sure do not.
Avatar 11:25am bibi:

wow, that was quite a lot of phaser all at once, lobi. malians are often so good at rythmic guitar.
  11:25am Brendan:

Maybach ...eh . Maibock ... Yum
Avatar 11:25am bobdoesthings:

Is it me or do all Malian bands like this have the same exact guitar tone?
Avatar 11:26am bibi:

if not, why coming ? to drink estrella, sorry, san miguel, sorry heineken ? no ;)
Avatar 11:27am Joe McG:

@bobdoes: They all buy their guitars at the same Sam Ash.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Guido (Cologne):

Land of Kush : Drift Biguine
... instand fave ... cool riff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Carmichael:

Later than the usual late. Hiya Joe and radio-correct listeners.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am joe:

At this rate Joe McG might be the first to have me star an entire set.
Avatar 11:28am Joe McG:

@joe: I'll try to throw you a curve soon, my friend!
Avatar 11:29am bobdoesthings:

@Joe well they did.. until sharia law
Avatar 11:30am bibi:

@bob, no france came and saved them ! or at least tried. or at least pretended to try.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Guido (Cologne):

... purchased that one ... much too good.
Avatar 11:33am bobdoesthings:

@bibi I thought they left after pretending to try and it's back to sharia? I could be wrong..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Brian in UK:

Joe is this Egyptian, sounds like Suoad Massi?
Avatar 11:36am Joe McG:

@Brian: I'm not sure! Can you do the googling and find out for me? Ever grateful!
Avatar 11:40am bibi:

@bob. its supposed to be more or less pacified (mass media says), it's centrafric's 'turn' now. and it happens bad. real bad. no chance to purchase a third hand guitar there i think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Guido (Cologne):

I need some money left for pledging !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Brian in UK:

Sudan, close by just to the south.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Greg from Bloomfield:

WOW. Gotta add this to my workout mix.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am common:

lovin kill the cobra! but, don't kill the cobra.
Avatar 11:41am MattBelow:

YES! Michele! This is the definitive version
Avatar 11:41am Joe McG:

@Brian: Thanks, my friend! @common: No cobras were harmed in the making of this broadcast.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Brian in UK:

Good luck with the marathon, Joe.

Avatar 11:43am northguineahills:

Brian is correct. Kush was traditionally around the confluence of the Niles in today's Khartoum and stretching north and south from there.
Avatar 11:43am Cecile:

Joe, I just re-sponsored Diane Kamikaze.

I have just one request for prizes - can you offer a 2XL or 3XL ladies tee in the future? I'm not small, but I can't wear men's shirts anymore either - too up and down and tight in the middle. I will pledge more in the future if I have to get that.
  11:44am Brendan:

Love the sets Joe. From funk to groovy to misty eyed. Every day should be like Thursday morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am Greg from Bloomfield:

Whoa, did he nick that from Incredible String Band?
Avatar 11:45am Joe McG:

@Cecile: Cool! Diane will be pleased, I know. As for the shirts, we just don't have enough demand for the larger women's sizes, so it's not really cost-efficient to get 'em. I wish we could, but it gets so expensive to get so many sizes!
Avatar 11:46am Joe McG:

@Brendan: Thanks, my friend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am common:

@joe: ha! and thanks for the great tunes!
Avatar 11:48am Cecile:

I think there are more larger ladies out there that don't select tee shirts because their sizes aren't there, or they just sigh and get a man's tee shirt. Or maybe give us an option to order a CustomInk or other online print shirt individually and have some of the money go to you.
  11:48am LovecraftDude888:

listening but distracted by tasks...back laterz folks need some sunshine that's fer shure
  11:48am Brendan:

Btw this harmony reminds me of a fave- Ian and Sylvia' Red Velvet
Avatar 11:49am Joe McG:

@Cecile: I'll run it up the flagpole!
Avatar 11:50am MikeY:

Cecile: You ever go Hogging?
Avatar 11:50am Cecile:

thanks, joe.
Or you can just always offer a hoodie - those work for me.
Avatar 11:50am Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Andrew Waterloo:

I love the hoodie
Avatar 11:51am MikeY:

You know what Hogging is, Got out to bars and Pick up the bigest woman you can find and fuck her then get her on a scales, tell your buddies
Avatar 11:52am bobdoesthings:

oh man, great set joe , many thanks
Avatar 11:52am duke:

I'm wearing the FMU hoodie right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Andrew Waterloo:

I have trouble with shirt sizes. I find 2xl is often hit or miss.
Avatar 11:52am duke:

This is a great song!
Avatar 11:52am MikeY:

iTS better with a bunch buddies who do this together
Avatar 11:53am Joe McG:

MikeY, not cool.
Avatar 11:53am Cecile:

Actually, I don't.
BUt thanks for staying classy, MikeY.
Fuck you.
Avatar 11:54am Cecile:

No, sorry, I wouldn't fuck you. Go to hell.
Avatar 11:54am MikeY:

I didnt say it was but it is entertaining on a cold snowy night
Avatar 11:55am Joe McG:

Please go away, MikeY, I don't want this kind of stuff on my list.
Avatar 11:55am MikeY:

Now this music is way cool
Avatar 11:55am MattBelow:

Avatar 11:56am Cecile:
