A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

By the way we almost have the crocus & tulips bunnies over here.
Kind of perverted.
anything can happen.
last year was snow in March.

Hello trouble. More polyphonics.

Crocuses in southern uk. And snowdrops.
Avatar 9:23am Brian in UK:

Several retrospectives of Richard Hamilton starting to manifest themselves since his demise. Might make their way across the sea to you at some time.
Avatar 9:26am glenn:

thanks rev. good stuff.
Avatar 9:26am earrie:

I saw a robin in a nearby tree on very cold day (- XX °C) in Southern Ontario over the weekend. Change in daylight leads the seasons.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- love that RH from '63, my birth year - w/ space capsule & convertible - really speaks of the era...
Avatar 9:28am glenn:

you were in southern ontario and didn't call? sheeesh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am listener james from westwood:

this wagner cut always reminds me of that film "excalibur."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am Guido (Cologne):

Hamilton ist interesting technical-wise (mix of oil-phorealism / collage / print).
We had an retrospective here some ten years ago or so.

Did you know that the artwork for Beatles White Album is by him.
Conception was to create a counter-part to Sgt. Pepper.
(Sgt. Pepper is by Peter Blake, so both are by major Pop-Art-artists.)
Avatar 9:32am earrie:

heh, glenn. Next time I'm in TO, I'll offer to buy you a GTD-gear thank you beer over a hockey final.
Avatar 9:33am glenn:

Avatar 9:34am bibi:

trouble, you will have trouble with guido !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- didn't put it together; funny how one hears Peter Blake's name all the time - but even the Beatles association doesn't make Richard Hamilton's name that familiar;
- have to mention then the Richard Chang project to buy White Albums :
- he speculates that maybe the staining & decoration what-have-you that would happen to the White Album are what Hamilton had in mind in the 1st place...

...Dogs to Wolves also a synchronicity, as I grew up w/ a husky & was just looking @ wolf-husky mixes online this A.M. ...

ahhh digging this, thanks trouble
  9:41am P-90:

Hi DJ Trouble!
sweet set so far
Avatar 9:41am earrie:

Sure. Rhyming with gear is coincidence.
  9:44am P-90:

@Rev: Scorpio boy grew up with a husky? M 0r F? How old were you when you got the dog? In NH?
I grew up with a German shepherd, right here in NYC, later joined by another one
(and a bunch of Siamese cats)
Avatar 9:45am fred von helsing:

arriving late... had to watch the finnish womens hockey team whomp them pesky rooskies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Guido (Cologne):

I know about the White Album and hamilton only because of a visit to Beatles Museum in Hamburg. To me it is weird why this lack of credit about the cover art. Maybe legal reasons.
  9:47am P-90:

@fred: Ahoy! always glad to see the Rooshins go down, once a child of the Cold War, always one, I guess
Avatar 9:47am glenn:

putin's not going to be very happy when the men's team doesn't even make the medal round.
  9:48am P-90:

@ glenn: mwah ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@P-90: I was maybe - 10? M dawg, NH yes. Huskies quite different from Shepherds.
@Guido: - & /or just the Minimalist nature of 'The White Album' cover - altho' it's actually loaded w/ photos & lyrics inside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Putin made need to take his shirt off & get in there himself...
Avatar 9:52am Trouble:

oh yeah the finnish women beat the russians! great to hear. that is an old school rivalry...
  9:52am P-90:

REv: I find their temperaments similar, huskies more laid back, less obsessively vigilant, maybe vs. shepherds
Ive had friends and relatives who had various dog breed/wolf mixes, sad to say I'm not impressed

  10:03am P-90:

@Trouble: you know how you see something cool and immediately think of one or two people whose tastes you're a little familiar with, like this is one for them to check out? This was one of those type of a-ha moments, I'll post later today, see what you think

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am Patrick:

ugh, i hate leaving the coffee at home!!
Avatar 10:10am fred von helsing:

one mistake was that the russian army had no intermediate levels of mobilisation. it was all or nothing. germany freaked out. everybody armed to the teeth. light fuse.
Avatar 10:13am fred von helsing:

yes shirtless Putin. we gotta capture the female demographic too. or is it the male ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...like - looking @ the Cold War Balance of Doom we used to decry w/ retrospective nostalgia - ?...
Avatar 10:14am bibi:

i always thought CBGB was a reference to BCBG... total failure.
  10:14am P-90:

Yeah, but then modern Western consumer culture started to seep into Berlin, the Commies were exposed to it and got hooked, after that there was no going back. See Billy Wilder's fabulous and criminally overlooked "One, Two, Three"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...someone to shame us - we need you Big Brother...
  10:16am P-90:

@Fred, Nadya scanty-clad for male demo, shirtless Putin for female demo, prominently ungelded unicorn for the urban gay demo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am Guido (Cologne):

... Northern Soul ...

... i miss the cold-war discussion here ...
.... "One, Two, Three" ... is brilliant ...
... thing was, when it was about to be distributed to the theatres the Berlin wall was built, that killed the movie ... at the time.

... ask ken he shall play some more of that "Funky Communist Stuff" ... hehehe ...
  10:18am upstatesean:

hey trouble,
great music as usual!
Avatar 10:22am fred von helsing:

another gateway for western influences was finnish tv. it was the only non-commie tv signal that could be captured in the western ussr. folks in estonia hacked antennas and recorded stuff. "estonians were the only soviets that knew that lech walenska had a moustache." the ussr was full of tapes of western movies with finnish subtitles. a cool techie footnote to the cold war.

... Anna ... other version ...
Avatar 10:32am fred von helsing:

the new warpaint and calvi are def hittin' good spots in de soul. but there's a consensus that the savages albums kinda blows even if they're amazing live.
Avatar 10:34am fred von helsing:

@guido Well, you know, I can't really talk about it *cough* *cough* Years later finnish newspapers reported on the kgb surveillance center in the hotel (it's a small informal museum now, in a middle floor in the hotel viru) so i know damned well they were listening in to the yanqui and his girlfriend :-O
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

In the military, Johnny Cash did the job of listening to Russian broadcasts !
Avatar 10:37am bobdoesthings:

ahh this is great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- that's quite an experience to reflect on fred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Guido (Cologne):

... understand too well.
Avatar 10:44am fred von helsing:

i'm one of the few yanquis to have seen the evil empire. OK it was estonia, not the core, but still it was pretty scary/amazing. i've been traveling to estonia a lot since right after the revolution, i've seen it change, it's nifty and heartening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am Andrew Waterloo:

All I can say is I've seen that movie the Lives of Others and would actually be more surprised when they didn't spy on foreigners. I remember the building of the US embassy and how they eventually had to build a secure structure withing the embassy because the Russians had planted so many bugs during construction.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am Guido (Cologne):

I travelled the Ukraine, but early post-soviet time.
But certain agents were still active, interviewing my hosts after I left.
... dark times ...economically ... people going to work not getting paid..
... weird "Businessmen" ... postmen stealing mail ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am AndrewC.:

Russia has a border with Norway too. But I guess the TV signal wasn't so strong way up there.
Avatar 10:50am earrie:

Breaking trust isn't a very smart long term strategy.
Avatar 10:51am fred von helsing:

The US now has much much stronger surveillance powers than the Rooskies EVER did. What could possibly go wrong ?
Avatar 10:51am earrie:

Who benefits from broken trust? Fucking assholes, that's who.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am common:

i concur fred. scary times.
