FWIW, 91.1FM is sporadically going out in Bay Ridge.
  7:18pm JakeGould:

And HELLO!
Avatar 7:23pm thunderish' Jay:

top notch ethnic picks congrats Rob!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Rob W:

Hi Jake, and thanks for the alert! If 91.1 is coming in okay elsewhere it may just be a temporary thing, maybe weather-related. But if anyone else is noticing any problems, let us know...
Avatar 7:25pm dk:

this chugge khan thing is nuts. really liking it.
Avatar 7:33pm dk:

i am apparently a huge fan of rajasthani music. i had no idea.
Avatar 7:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

What is the jews-harp sounding instrument? I am picturing perhaps something like a berimbau...
Avatar 7:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- nice recording jobs, btw !
Avatar 7:37pm dk:

it's actually the rajasthani jews harp: the morchang.
Avatar 7:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

✔ : quite loud !
Avatar 7:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- an interesting picture ? :
www.hindustantimes.com...
Avatar 7:41pm dk:

i have no particular desire to learn to play the morchang, but i covet one of those ones with the bird on 'em.
Avatar 7:46pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...very evocative...it has me thinking of Medieval Europe by comparison - or contrast...
Avatar 7:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...the use of harmonics on this bowed string - so much like electronic phasing or flanging; one is again reminded that India prefigured 'psychedelic' music 1,000s of years ago...
Avatar 8:00pm TDK60:

Rob, Did you see blue buildings in Jodhpur?
  8:05pm LovecraftDude888:

the weather is just unrelenting...never seen the like....sorry distracted trying to figure out if the Stones' Steel Wheels was any good....it's ok. I'd like to go to India but afraid I'll end up 4000 pounds from the food!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm Rob W:

Yep, there are a lot of blue buildings in the old city - actually it's quite pretty walking down the curving hillside road from the Mehrangarh fort, which runs alongside the old city.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm KristinaKoffee:

RR well they say what has been is what will be. True in music as anywhere else. Sounds good every time round ;)
  8:11pm JowM:

amazing recordings Rob, curious...what kind of recorder did you travel with...the sounds are clear and crisp...glad you are back
  8:12pm LovecraftDude888:

but what about the Droll Drums? arf arf
  8:12pm JowM:

and thanks for sharing all this hidden music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm Rob Weisberg:

Hi JowM - I have a Sony D-50, just using the built-in mics. I did some post-production though to try to make things sound as clear as possible. But not a super pro recording setup.
  8:14pm LovecraftDude888:

switched over from the Stones... so are Dhol drums special kind of drum per se? There was some concept in Arthur Machen's Welsh weird tales went by "Dholes" or "Dhole Chants" but I don't think it was nec. Indian-inspired...might have been, though can't recall now
  8:16pm LovecraftDude888:

or Dol with accent over the o
  8:20pm LovecraftDude888:

hm D-50 is about $500-600 retail. but looks sturdy.
  8:20pm LovecraftDude888:

p.s. nevermind answered my drum question..carry on!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm Rob W:

LovecraftDude888: The comparable Zoom recorder is good too (and has some extra features like XLR mic inputs) and costs a lot less - I had one of the early ones but I do like the Sony.
  8:24pm LovecraftDude888:

Rob...thanks, right, Zoom makes good schtuff as well and a bit more affordable. keen! I don't have much use for one right now but will consider if I do....I'm considering a tabletop drum kit for larfs...in meantime. cannot afford a full Roland kit here. but I'm into drums and guitar, etc.
Avatar 8:29pm TDK60:

This brass band is hot, what rhythm.
  8:29pm LovecraftDude888:

but will the dol play his dhol that's the question....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm KristinaKoffee:

Loving this bird background recording. Man, would love to go birdwatching in India! That crowing rooster is native to India/SE Asia
  8:52pm LovecraftDude888:

ready to order some Vindaloo if I hadn't already had dinner and wasn't snowed in!
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 8:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:

This was a good 3-hour show. There should be a world music stream option here. One of the folks asked Ken on his state of the station on Thursday if there could be more world music on the station.
  9:00pm LovecraftDude888:

wild birds flock to me
Avatar 9:41am Mdurek(The_Use):

Rob! I heard this in the car, and was overtaken with endorfins
Avatar 9:42am Mdurek(The_Use):

I too got to go to India just last month, and performed in a suburb of Mumbai, with local tabla players, 100s of thousands of people. Brought me back!!!! Looking forward to the other editions.
