Favoriting January 29, 2014: #8 - Hacking the Uterus

Take a deep breath, and come along as Andrea prepares for her appointment to get an IUD, or intrauterine device. Though many women describe the insertion process as one of the most painful experiences of their lives, the women who love their IUDs can't say enough about how it's led to an entirely new kind of independence from hormones and hassle.

I'm having sympathy pains, this is so painful and sad. These kinds of things never should have happened.

Still, easier than listening to Randy

Me and this guest worked hard on how we wanted to tell this story. She was so brave, and in the end was glad she told the story.

P-90:

I'm sure it was cathartic for her. And these stories should be told, so others who've been through similar know they're not alone, and because it's important to learn the consequences of theses things--the IUD never should have been approved, it was not thoroughly tested, it's a very unnatural, brutal way to manipulate a woman's body, and they were told it was "safe and effective"
  7:56pm
JakeGould:

Wow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm

It took me a day to recover, but I'm so glad I called it off! The pill is fine for me, and I am totally spooked by the IUD now. I recommend it to the brave though!

P-90:

I work in a hospital I know about parts. Hearing about the experience was important.

It's nuts that the IUD Wikipedia article does not even mention the potential for pain during insertion.
Avatar 8:17pm
Ange:

It's seriously like the wild west! There are no standards with how Drs do the procedure, or talk about it with their patients.
