A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Hello Trouble, Good morning everybody

I feel a great urge to paint "Arthur" on the tree-pot in that image.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- it is an interesting composition - the representational element almost emerging from the abstract - color vs. monochrome - very good...
  9:19am doca:

Great artwork today, Trouble, and hi you all troublers
  9:19am homeless shelter guy:

So many chat clients FMU could use. They pick this semi static way of communicating with the "on air host"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am robyn:

morning everyone. happy to be able to tune in on time for the sounds today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...reading in Scott MCloud's 'Understanding Comics' - he posits that in Japanese Comics - the presonal is 'cartoonish' & abstract - & the impersonal is shown in realistic detail; the paradox that the Abstract - by being personal & internal - is more Universal - because we all - as individuals - have a subjective interior...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...the personal...abstracting typing there...

...just doing a quick websearch - is it safe to say that once again you present us w/ someone that has strong Design elements - but definitely intersects Art w/ a big 'A' - Trouble ??...Yerknow - kinda like good Pop Music...
  9:30am Potrzebie-9Ø:

@Mad Mag Fan: What, me worry? but the tree-pot does look fine just the way it is.
@Deej Trouble: Nice tunes, nice Art(hur)!
  9:34am LovecraftDude888:

arghh I missed Big Star. Gotta run out of here soon...back on later today for sure. Now I'm getting renovation noises from next door...that's nice. I love how landlords never give anybody a forewarning of it. $ rules
  9:34am Potrzebie-9Ø:

@RevRab: The more familiar one is with the Japanese approach to the personal and the impersonal in all aspects of life, the deeper McCloud's comments resonate. I'll have to check out that book
  9:37am Potrzebie-9Ø:

The key is the absolutely strict distinction between the personal/interior and the impersonal exterior which is emphatically enforced in every dimension of their culture, if that makes sense
Avatar 9:37am Beaver's teacher:

Yanai has an obvious and deep influence from Wayne Thiebaud and those that followed his style since the 1950's. It was an image of a Thiebaud that my sister showed me from her college art course when I was about 10 years old that changed my life. I remember thinking," If I was a painter I would paint like that!" I am an artist and have met W. Thiebaud.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am Patrick:

hey trouble! been a while since i have been able to listen live, but we have a cold emergency here today... -22 here in Metro Detroit! are you taking pete seeger requests this morning? cuz Emily and i would love to hear "froggy went a courting". also love todays painting!
  9:41am Potrzebie-9Ø:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Station Mgr Ken:

Trouble, Andy Breckman and I recorded an obituary for Pete Seeger a few years ago. It is on CD, filed in the library under "obituary," if you want to play it. Among other things, we debunk the awful rumor that Pete took an axe to Dylan's guitar cable at the 1965 Newport Folk Fest.
Avatar 10:20am hardwood stain:

Station Manager Ken, how did you guys know that Pete Seeger would ever die?
Avatar 10:21am The Guz "Slim Pickins":

yes, what ken said! ^^^^
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Station Mgr Ken:

Hardwood Stain: just lucky I guess.

thanks for the music, and for caring, mr. PETE SEEGER, r.i.p. i last saw him perform outdoors at world financial center, bringing my cassette corder. but the whole crowd was singing along, how rude! (oh, *i* phoned in during the pete obit bit)

i dont if this 'ruth' is linked to the band 'ruth' that released great stuff around the same era. cf the great bippp collection.
Avatar 10:42am Trouble:

i have that same question bibi, and no time to research...
Avatar 10:46am ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

For a mili-second I confused Pete Seeger with Bob Seger this morning when I read the plain text headline. Would be feeling different if it was the latter.
Avatar 10:47am bibi:

ok, trouble, i made the job. it is the same brain behind it all : thierry muller (anagram of ruth elyeri).
Avatar 10:48am bibi:

well, seems like an M is missing though. and another L... my references are unconvincing.

Hello Trouble. Like the shades of green. Very sad to hear of Pete Seeger's demise. Part of America's conscience?
'Thumbs up for Mother Earth' said Lonnie.
  11:44am listener james from westwood:

The NYT handled Lonnie w their usual tongs. Great to see him get mention but sad to see the dismissive term "outsider" used.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Parq:

A New York Times writer was condescending toward a non-mainstream music artist he/she wrote up? Oh gosh, I just *can't* believe that.
Avatar 11:45am Trouble:

the article about lonnie

good point brian in UK, good point!

This Laura Mvula always makes me remember of that Seinfeld episode where he calls a woman "Mulva" because she said her name matched a part of the woman body
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Ike:

I don't read the NYT regularly, but am I correct that sometimes it is way less snobby than it once was, and other times it backslides considerably? In the 90s it seemed far more arrogant and Upper East Side-y to me, but maybe just because I was totally new to it then?
Avatar 11:49am earrie:

Not big on the harp, I think it's lovely in this track. Fine listening, today, Ms. Trouble.
Avatar 11:50am Trouble:

thanks earrie!
  11:50am Sam:

Oh, the NYT is still snobby and arrogant as hell. At least before they had the journalistic standards to back that up. Now they're snobby and full of grammatical mistakes.
Avatar 11:51am Brian in UK:

I think there is a fair degree of certainty that Lonnie would not have read the article but I bet lots of people have told him about it. Does he care a fig/jot. Does he heck.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Parq:

*Such* a nice show today, Trouble. Quietly excellent in that way you have.

  11:55am listener james from westwood:

Thanks, Trouble!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- just scanning that NYT write-up (...this *is* the Internet...after all...) - seems writer is trying to come to terms w/ Lonnie - his biography & his oeuvre - & that is admittedly a considerable task; he seems to have real regard for it; it's regrettable if a widely-distributed & relied-upon media source doesn't do the work of researching ahead of time ! - but I could read the whole thang 1st if I wanted to practice what I preach...'suppose...
