Morning Bill - your sonic alarm clock has just rung. Back soon............

Hello and hoping you have fun this morning DJ Bill Mac
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05am mauri:

Hey Bill!
Avatar 3:06am Andy in Berlin:

Good morning everybody! Sunny and fucking freezing over here!
Avatar 3:08am Bill Mac:

Wooop wooop! So let me tell you how cold it's been here.... on 2nd thought not. The notion that baseball season will be starting in less than a month is the one thing keeping my cockles warm (it's not what you think!!!) Anyway, music will have to fuel us this morning, hope it's warm enough!
  3:09am P-90:

Good morning to Bill M and all.
Avatar 3:09am Bill Mac:

@Andy - Fucking freezing! THAT'S how cold it is here too!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10am coelacanth:

Hello Bill Mac. This piece is extraordinary. Unfortunately i must sleep at some point, and i think that point is soon. I thank you now for an archive tomorrow.
Avatar 3:11am Jay/London:

Good Morning Bill am very busy this weekend moving and packing to get the flat ready for the builders on Monday.. not cold but wet here
Avatar 3:11am Bill Mac:

Sweet Dreams, C! Thanks for letting me know you're out there.
  3:11am P-90:

Get well, Coel, we'll talk more Vonnegut soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13am coelacanth:

yes. caio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18am mauri:

-9C here. Doesnt feel cold to me cause its been -20C for couple of weeks already. Soon I shall enjoy the show with my phone and go ski.
  3:21am andy in berlin:

@Mauri - I hope your taking centigrade!
Avatar 3:21am Bill Mac:

See this is why I try not to complain. It's a balmy +5 here. I can't think of many better options than skiing to get thru the winter months.
Avatar 3:21am Brian in UK:

Hello Bill & sensation seekers. My picture gives you a reminder of sunny days.
  3:22am P-90:

Wait, it's 30 degrees colder than fucking freezing in Finland, and Mauri's going out for a little ski action? My cockles are encoldening just thinking about it
Avatar 3:23am northguineahills:

Thanks Bill. Loving the sounds!

Brian in UK never sleeps.

Howdy -OOO!, Brian!
  3:24am Fran:

I'm listening from Rochdale in the north of England - stories are told about the sun and when it used to shine. I think I have a folk box set about it somewhere sung by the village elders and left in a time capsule so we all may know of ancient times.....
Avatar 3:24am Bill Mac:

Hey Brian, I'm hoping (for your sake) this is a recent pic. If it is color me jealous...
@P-90 - Is encoldening a word? It's very evocative - the sound of shriveling.
Avatar 3:25am reining firewater:

I don't think I take much more of this global warming. I might have to move to the Sahara if this keeps up much longer,
Avatar 3:25am Andy in Berlin:

Fucking Freezing In Finland - isn't that a Charles Bukowski book?
  3:27am Fran:

No Andy - it was the Michael Caine/Harry Palmer movie that got passed on....
Avatar 3:27am Brian in UK:

Hey ngh, was really wanting a shot of mezcal the other day. It is getting really treny in London.
@Andy there is a live Bukowski in Berlin.
Avatar 3:28am Bill Mac:

NGH tippity-too! Yeah, Brian is our self appointed radio police, pay isn't good but the rewards are mostly endless.
Avatar 3:28am northguineahills:

Down to my last maybe 7 shots of mezcal... trying to be frugal....
  3:30am P-90:

@ Bill M: Yeah, shriveling in the cold, that is. For a moment I thought you meant +5 degrees FAHRENHEIT in Jersey City! Its 20F in NYC, I knew it wasn't that much colder there...

@ Brian: Those woods in the avatar are gorgeous, very Tolkienesque.
And it does look so WARM
Avatar 3:31am aching butter:

@NGH Do it right and chug to the end of the bottle and SWALLOW THAT WORM.
Avatar 3:32am Brian in UK:

When the liquid gets below the label it is a sad time.

When I arrived at the woods it was chucking it down by the time I left it was sunny as you can see. Four seasons in one hour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33am mauri:

UUUuuu Ruins! This gets me going!
Avatar 3:33am Bill Mac:

Is it that warm in JC tonight? Now it just sounds like I'm whining.
Avatar 3:34am bored hole zert:

Is this Sax Ruins not a cover of King Crimson's Court of the Crimson King?
Avatar 3:34am Brian in UK:

@Jay good luck with the building work. It's the dust afterwards.
Avatar 3:35am northguineahills:

Not to be confuse w/ the Ruins.....
  3:35am Fran:

Sax Ruins........nicely Crimsonesque Bill!!Now officially awake!
  3:35am P-90:

@Brian: Is Mezcal a traditional winter libation in England?
also: "treny" ?
Avatar 3:37am rack of tours:

@Brian I want to just lay down in the fern and sun of your avatar. Nice looking pooch, nose to the ground huntin' wabbits no doubt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38am Stanley:

Good morning Bill and everyone.

@Brian - nice shot of Spencer, there. Say hello from me.
Avatar 3:38am Bill Mac:

@NGH - Funny that you should mention Ruins - hear thus from their press release:
Formed by Tatsuya Yoshida (drums) and Ono Ryoko (alto Sax) to perform RUINS's songs in 2006, the duo has only done a few live shows until now.
Avatar 3:39am Brian in UK:

The first King Crimson is a great example of artwork lost to CD.

@P-90, meant to be trendy. It is the current cool thing I believe, as I am not a cool thing I take the groovy peoples word for it.
Avatar 3:39am Jay/London:

@ Brian its nightmare trying to get it all ready for Monday morning am slowly going mad here only wfmu keeping me sane as I clear the flat
Avatar 3:39am Bill Mac:

Stanley happy saturday morn to you - hope you're warm!
Avatar 3:40am Bill Mac:

@Brian - Here here!
Avatar 3:40am Bill Mac:

Avatar 3:41am Brian in UK:

Hey Stanley, better get walking the dawg. I'm all behind today (as the fat bottomed person said)
Avatar 3:42am electric dust broom handle:

Brian Old School to-kill-ya (tequila) etiquette is to lick salt on one hand and chug a straight shot from the other hand. Beazoweeez.
  3:43am P-90:

@Jay: Steady, one thing at a time, we're all here with you. Are you staying very far from home while the work is done?
Avatar 3:43am Jay/London:

@ Bill i have to get rid of so much stuff to make room for the building works flat now looks like a bomb has hit it
Avatar 3:44am Jay/London:

No P-90 have to live in the flat while they work in it !!!!:(
  3:47am P-90:

I've said this before, there always seems to be talk on this board of some kind of food or drink, that I don't have ready access to at 03:00, and I wind up craving whatever it is, being fatally suggestible where food & beverages are concerned.
So: enjoy the fucking mezcal, those that got it...
  3:51am P-90:

"Morphine"? mmmmm...new craving
Avatar 3:51am smoking clown wagon:

The show is terrific. Sadly, yet anticipatorily, am headed to the cave of warm bedspreads with a gut stuffed with comfort food and a nip of Rebel Yell whiskey.

Thanks DJ BIll Mac and happy fire in the belly to all.
Avatar 3:52am Brian in UK:

Sleep well, I have used both of your products in the last 24 hours.
Avatar 3:52am Bill Mac:

Later on oh listener of many titles! Get ready!
  3:53am P-90:

@Whhoda: Keep warm in the old attic, talk to you soon I'm sure
@Rebel Yell: Has EVERYone got booze but me? Sheesh!
Avatar 3:54am Brian in UK:

@P-90 looking at an EMPTY bottle of Polish bison grass infused vodka.
Avatar 3:54am warm vaccum tube in my pocket:

This morphine is dope. Impossible to leave it alone.
  3:55am Fran:

Ah Morphine - much missed band. Bison grass infused vodka......Aldi own brand?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55am Stanley:

Mmmm.. sax, bass and drums. Good combo but just as I write this we got a dash of electronic something or other.
  3:57am P-90:

@ Brian: Thanks, really, so thoughtful, Hands Across the Water and all that
How old is the Beagle? M or F?
Avatar 3:57am Bill Mac:

Some sort of communcations blip?
  4:01am P-90:

This song makes me thirsty for a nice body temp bottle of Burgundy
  4:07am sara:

good morning
Avatar 4:08am Brian in UK:

Beagle is three and male. Named Spencer after the artist Stanley Spencer.
Avatar 4:11am Brian in UK:

@fran Zubrowka is that an Aldi brand name?

What's the difference between a buffalo & a bison?
Avatar 4:16am Brian in UK:

You cannot wash your hands in a buffalo.

Better go.
Avatar 4:18am Bill Mac:

Yeah, I'm gonna need a few minutes to figure out whether that joke was funny or not ;)
  4:18am sara:

having black tea with cardamon and milk, cheers
Avatar 4:21am Bill Mac:

@Sara Nice... it always sounds like everyone is able to savor there libations out there is listening land. right now I'm chugging cold black tea primarily for the caffeine.
  4:25am sara:

probably cuter with a nice english accent. @bill no microwave for your tea? if that's how you like it, ok. did you say you were sick recently?
Avatar 4:29am Bill Mac:

@Sar Surely! Also, using the word 'chug' to illustrate my level of pleasure doesn't help either. Microwave is upstairs, and I'm lazy...had the cold everyone and work and here are suffering with, I hope to get through the rest of the winter unscathed... fingers x'ed..
  4:35am P-90:

@Can't you just ask an intern or production assistant or whatever to take your tea upstairs and heat it for you while you're on the air?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35am Stanley:

@Sara - tea with cardamon and milk sounds like you should be drinking it with an Indian accent, memsahib.
  4:36am sara:

oh nice song. i bet a microwave in the studio would get too messed up eventually. yeah, hope it does stay away. feel better. fresh ginger in your food or tea can help repel bugs, at least it tastes good too, good for the throat too i think?
Avatar 4:38am Bill Mac:

@P-90 You must be referring to the parallel universe WFMU - the one where I get driven to my mansion in my limo by my chauffeur after my show.
Avatar 4:41am Bill Mac:

@Sara I shudder to think what would happen if we had kitchen appliances here in the studio... I feel good but it sounds as if I could constantly use something for my throat - alway a little bit raspy in there.
  4:43am P-90:

You mean to say the Freeform Station of the Nation doesn't have interns eager to lend any assistance they can to the air staff? Is that because you're on the graveyard shift and things are quiet there on a Friday night?
  4:43am sara:

@stanley i'd make some for all the "help" too, it was assam and ceylon tea
Avatar 4:44am Bill Mac:

@P-90 I think most people are scared to be here after midnight. Others just don't have any sense.
  4:47am sara:

@bill i can just imagine all the djs ranting about microwave smells or something on air. the best show would have had at least ten minutes about it, right?
  4:48am P-90:

Hmmm... if there were appliances, you could do cooking segments on the air. i picture Terre T making raspberry waffles, Rex sharing his Cheetos Pie recipe, Gaylord's signature Empanadas, Evan's Funky Caramel Popcorn and Nuts etc.
Avatar 4:48am Bill Mac:

@Jay You still there? How much longer do you have to deal with the transition?
Avatar 4:51am Bill Mac:

Sara & P-90: You just presented the best and the worst scenarios of appliance-gate.... and P-90, you're quite the optimist!
  4:52am P-90:

...two sides to every coin...
  4:53am P-90:

Terre's raspberry waffles sound good, right?

Sure, screw the legal ID, just play more music, why not
  4:58am sara:

mmm berry waffles. and ken might stick on a list of things not to microwave with comic additions. cd demos?
Avatar 5:00am Jay/London:

@Bill My kitchen is no more have to do take always for a while ..
  5:01am Fran:

All this food talk!! A simple monastic style breakfast is all I want now!! Amoeba records - great place. Randomly saw JG Thirlwell's 'what's in my bag' selection of cds on You Tube - short Amoeba shopping trip clips - some good stuff there in the Foetus shopping basket for future shows Bill from Laddio Bolocki to the Symphonic Yes!!!
Avatar 5:01am Bill Mac:

@Sara - not until after the 1st fire of course!
Avatar 5:03am Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Ooh, neat PF cover
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04am Stanley:

Oooo... what's this?
Avatar 5:05am Bill Mac:

@Fran Thirlwell comes to the Record Fair. He stopped at our CD table and bought a Batman soundtrack CD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05am mauri:

huh huh
  5:05am P-90:

...Bob Brainen's calves' brains, Dave the Spazz's banana cream pie, Dusty's clay-pot baked squab, Nat Roes's caviar-filled crepes (get it?), Mary's 100% spicy Wings, Hearty White's PB&J, William's Castle of Quiet Burger...
wait, is this from the Billy Sherwood-produced Dark Side tribute album?
  5:05am sara:

oh nice fran, like foetus too. what's a monastic breakfast have? the milk made my tea into a meal more or less.
Avatar 5:06am Bill Mac:

I didn't know if you folks would like this or not - those crazy Flaming Lips guys did Dark Side beginning to end. I never noticed this before.
Avatar 5:06am Bill Mac:

The new Foetus release is really great!
Avatar 5:08am Bill Mac:

@P-90 You and Brian should get together and right me some jokes!
....Castle of Quiet Burger....
  5:10am Fran:

Excellent Bill - his soundtrack purchases included Godzilla, some Lalo Schiffrin and one of my favourites the ever wonderful Dr Phibes Rises Again! Yes the new Foetus is tremendous stuff! Sara in my case a monastic breakfast will be something most people would seek forgiveness for cooking or at the least would get up far too early and pray to avoid eating it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10am Stanley:

Although I don't really listen to Pink Floyd anymore. I have to accept that when I was a young me and my pals were totally into this album. Time and place, 1973 in my friend's bedroom lying on the floor speakers next to our heads. Nice to hear a cover of the whole album bit like the Easy Star All Stars a few years back.
  5:10am P-90:

Ohhhh... The Lips and guests did their OWN DSOTM album! I had no idea at all. That brings the Dark Side tribute album total to what, 247?
Not including Weird Al Yaonkovic's Gilbert and Sullivan comic operetta version
Avatar 5:12am Brian in UK:

The Lips always worried me with their prog leanings. There I've said it.
  5:13am P-90:

@Brian: They should lean the other way, agreed
  5:14am Fran:

Brian - you could be starting the good prog bad prog debate which is potentially endless outside of agreeing the Alan Parsons project are awful?
  5:15am sara:

i'm guessing bronwyn makes some sportsy dip, and shut up weirdo has a wine list, and sue p makes some intense pastry or something, and keili has some japanese candy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15am Stanley:

@Fran - Yes.
Avatar 5:16am Brian in UK:

Never understood when people said about prog groups when I showed some shall we say distain. 'Well they can play their instruments'. So what, it's not the nurdling surely, it's the soul behind it.

@fran not good/bad just why?
Avatar 5:18am Brian in UK:

Looks like I just nailed my colours to the mast. Got any sea chanteys?
  5:18am Fran:

I'll agree it is an awful catch all term and a lot of good bands are tarred with that brush. You should never judge a man by the length of his drum solo as the Bible would have said if written in 1974.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19am Stanley:

Pirate Prog Hater - lash that dog to the yardarm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21am Stanley:

There are only two types of music
  5:21am Fran:

Country and ....western?
Avatar 5:21am Brian in UK:

Cardamon tea is very good for digestion after a meal preferably a Turkish one.
  5:21am P-90:

@Sara: Shut Up's "whine list"? haha
Sportsy Talk could do Bronwyn's Super Bowl Sunday Buffet chopped chicken liver in the shape of a football, with string-cheese laces.
...and Pseu P.'s bitter gruel (sorry) and yes, Keili's Candy Bento Box is good...
Avatar 5:22am Brian in UK:

Excellent fran.
  5:22am Fran:

Cardamon Tea - isn't that a good name for a prog band???
Avatar 5:23am Bill Mac:

@Fran I love Dr Phibes! Nothing else. I've seen too many fat priests to have any faith in a monastic meal of any sort. Oh yeah, and the Lips leaning make me leery too. I'll catch up later - you guys exhaust me.
  5:23am P-90:

@Fran: Gold Star for that one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23am mauri:

Ah cardamon mixed with liquirice root and lil cinnamon makes a good hot cuppa.
Avatar 5:23am Brian in UK:

Tea & Symphony came from Birmingham if memory serves.
  5:26am Fran:

So we conclude that prog is not everyones cup of tea and that Bill can't do a 24 minute improvised noodle anymore.......I need a coffee laced with Bison grass vodka!!
Avatar 5:26am Brian in UK:

Did you ever used to play the game where you would make up a band name then mention it to people and see if they pretended to know it.
Plastic Tearful was my favourite.
Avatar 5:27am Bill Mac:

@Fran That's what those 4 hour overnight epic shows were for.
Avatar 5:28am Brian in UK:

Full name was 'Plastic Tearful & the One-Eyed Bucketload'. Great band.
Avatar 5:28am Bill Mac:

@Brian I like that. Would you build up a phony bio too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29am Stanley:

Ken had one of his pointless competitions some time back asking for the most awful/embarrassing band names that listeners were in. Never found out what the winners were.
  5:32am Fran:

Brian - they need to reform and do some fake enormodromes!!! Made up Death metal bands is a fun game too! Bill - well done for bringing Rogues Gallery into this!! Anything Hal Willner gets his paws on is worth hearing.
  5:35am P-90:

@Stanley: No one's ever a "winner" in Ken's "pointless competitions"
  5:38am P-90:

I stayed out of the Prog debate, I need two sides of an LP to say anything on that subject
Avatar 5:39am Brian in UK:

@fran listening to Doug's show yesterday I discovered that Hal W worked for Joel Dorn when recording Yusef Lateef.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41am Stanley:

@P-90 who about six sides of the Yessongs triple album to really get you going.
Avatar 5:41am Brian in UK:

.......and the artwork.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43am Stanley:

"Welcome my friends to the show that never ends..."
  5:43am Fran:

Yes Brian - some Roland Kirk stuff too I think.P-90 Yessongs - a sleeve which when spread out is a Roger Dean Bayeux Tapestry - bring it on!!
Avatar 5:45am Brian in UK:

This could almost be Big Joe Turner. Nice.
  5:48am Fran:

ELP - once called a waste of electricity by John Peel but in their earlier days I have to disagree with the mighty Peel. They were also allegedly Britain's largest employer in 1974 with carpet weavers, flares ironing technicians, wind chime polishers and otherwise unemployable craftsmen in a 10,000 strong road crew..............allegedly of course!
Avatar 5:49am Brian in UK:

....and ego massagers.
Avatar 5:50am Brian in UK:

Great work, Bill. Remember it's the other guy. Drive safely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51am Stanley:

@Fran - you're so right.
  5:51am Fran:

The ego massage team was seperate I believe - something to do with not wanting to travel with wind chime polishers?
  5:53am abbyinfrance:

another great show bill! thanks.
Avatar 5:54am Brian in UK:

  5:54am Fran:

Yes Bill - a good one. I'm now getting my brain in gear for this afternoons cup clash with Sheffield Wednesday - up the Dale!!! Happy days to one and all
Avatar 5:54am Bill Mac:

Ohhhhhhhhright! I gotta catch up with you guys and the last hours' patter. Be safe and stay warm. The planet will tilt in the wamr direction soon enough. Dirnk lots of fluids (your choice of course and we'll face off again next week!

Hi Abby! and yeah, hang in Jay.
  5:55am P-90:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55am Stanley:

Shit, is it 11 o'clock already? It's gone dark with rain clouds outside the street lamps have come back on.
Thanks once again Bill.
Good luck Jay if you are still there. Keep us posted on your take aways.
