Avatar 3:06pm chocolate monk:

perfect way to start my weekly thursday 8pm wonk off,, love this track.
Avatar 3:07pm Sem Chumbo:

Pipeline, mainline...whatever. I'm up for failure any old how. Hiya, Fabio.
Avatar 🎸 3:09pm TDK60:

This Thursday is a failure.
  3:11pm JakeGould:

How is Thursday a failure?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm DCE:

but TDK tapes never fail! Hi Fabio, friends.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm DCE:

is that Uriah Heep mixed in there? "Life...Life..."
  3:13pm JakeGould:

Oh, never mind ((<-- Emily Littela (<-- Ancient reference)) <-- Irony!)
Avatar 🎸 3:17pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Peace be with you.
  3:18pm JakeGould:

Peas be with soup.
Avatar 3:19pm chocolate monk:

DCE,, i aint sure if its Uriah Heep,, i always thought it was this band Dawn Davenport that appear on the Fug Gum 2 compilation.. but now you mention it...
Avatar 🎸 3:19pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

It was indeed a day for soup.
...so says the vegetable clergyman with a dewlap full of yellow lentils.
Avatar 🎸 3:21pm TDK60:

My day is a failure so I'm relaxing with the 'way out' sounds here on Strength Through Failure.
  3:22pm JakeGould:

I took a sick day today because I did.
Avatar 3:23pm chocolate monk:

every day is a day for soup!
Avatar 🎸 3:25pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Lentils are king of the world!
Digging this sound!
  3:25pm JakeGould:

I had soup for breakfast because I was so burned out this sick day is just a “me” day.
  3:26pm Yair yona:

Hi Fabio, good evening everyone
  3:26pm JakeGould:

Thai Sweet Potato. Should do that more often.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm DCE:

that does sound interesting...hello, Yair!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:27pm dale:

i made a big crockpot of lentil soup yesterday. this winter has been bean soup overload for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm DCE:

I made lentil soup a few weeks ago...by day three I was just non-stop flatulence. By day 5, the situation had corrected itself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I don't eat animals & I think lentils are yummy & nutritious...but for some reason my tummy doesn't always agree; the iron ? I don't mind beans & their side-effects generally...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm DCE:

by day 7, it had reversed itself
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:30pm dale:

usually do bobs redmill 16 bean mix and gas has not been a problem. switched to lentil and last night i was blowing the covers off the bed
Avatar 🎸 3:31pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Never had issues with lentils. I dig 'em like mad. With rice it's a complete protein, so as a fellow non-chewer-uponer-of-animals, it's a non-flatulent win-win.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:31pm dale:

should probably save this topic for clays comments board
  3:32pm Dean:

I'm thinking the Mad magazine flexi-disk 45" of "It's a Gas" is fitting right about now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

beans + grain =s complete protein is the word (corn works) - need not even eat simultaneously I'm told...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Mike East:

we have lentils and rice every other week. The other week is black beans and rice. I'm in a pretty consistent state of moderate flatulence all the time.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:33pm dale:

also made a loaf of whole wheat bread in the bread machine for sopping. i try to not eat much bread but it was yummy
Avatar 3:34pm InBrkly:

Lentils don't like me either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Black beans are what oats eat when they need fiber.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm DCE:

you guys ain't afraid of the arsenic factor in the rice? I understand it's fairly serious...I've cut out brown rice, and white rice really isn't worth eating...
  3:35pm Jedd XperIence:

Listening in real time my friend, whooop!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Mike East:

unaware, DCE. do you have a link to an article that will scare me out of eating rice?
Avatar 🎸 3:36pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Indian basmati is the only rice i'll touch anymore. No idea if it's poisonous or anything, but it's a groove.
  3:36pm djelrock:

Ya Fabio! Buona Sera. My cerebrum is prepared to receive your musical mind altering emanating choices.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Bronwyn says green tea has lead. I haven't Searched about it...Arsenic you say...it's not in the manufacturing/processing ??...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm DCE:

shit...I hate to spoil what was once a go-to staple...just google it, it's all over the place. Even organics. It's more in the way it's grown than in processing.
  3:38pm davis:

didnt the ondes martineu work by moving a metal ring side to side over volcanic rock?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:38pm dale:

oh no - russell johnson, the professor form gilligans island died.
Avatar 🎸 3:39pm TDK60:

The Ondes Martinot was used on the Lawrence of Arabia soundtrack. Along with orchestra. 1962?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm DCE:

but you can distract yourself by looking at some old photos of the vinyl manufacturing process
  3:40pm longtime listener:

Shoe size?
Avatar 3:40pm InBrkly:

If it is named after the Bronx River, maybe over time it just became the shortened form of saying "from the bronx river".
  3:41pm muwa:

The Bronx is a family name
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Mike East:

Actually Bronck is the family name. The Bronx name came from referring to Bronck's river, I believe.
  3:43pm Santos L Halper:

Learned about the ondes martenot on an FMU show last year I think. Made me go out and buy some Messaien (Turangalila Symphony). Cool stuff
  3:44pm Santos L Halper:

No, not FMU but an interview w Johnny greenwood in NYT ...
  3:47pm muwa:

Oh, well. You are right. But only apparently.
Avatar 🎸 3:47pm TDK60:

Is this Fripp & Eno?
Avatar 🎸 3:48pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

TDK60: Heldon, methinks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm DCE:

that's gotta be Fripp, just not sure which incarnation
Avatar 🎸 3:50pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

well shut mah face, it's those other blokes.
Avatar 3:50pm Chris from DC:

I thought it was Fripp & Eno. Evening clicky starred.
Avatar 🎸 3:53pm TDK60:

Yeah, interesting album photo, F. & E. sitting in a room full of mirrors.
  3:54pm Fern:

I just realized this is the reversed version. This and the half-speed version are revelations.
Avatar 🎸 3:55pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Been a Pinhas fan since forever, but don't know squat about this (more famous) duo. I suppose the everpresent Fripp references folks use when describing Pinhas make sense now...?
Avatar 🎸 3:56pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

In any case, great stuff.
Avatar 3:56pm Cheri Pi:

I approve these messages

Shortwave numbers station
Avatar 🎸 3:57pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Are you 'diversified' now, CP?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Mike East:

Well, shit. Thanks for ruining the rice party, DCE. My wife was gonna make rice balls next week, too.
  3:58pm longtime listener:

I searched the whole shortwave spectrum and could not find one numbers station
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm DCE:

yeah, Mike E, I'm sorry, but better to know than to continue poisoning yourself, I always say
Avatar 4:00pm Chris from DC:

Rev, start with No Pussyfooting. The half-speed and reversed bonus disc versions are indeed special. Don't know if there's a vinyl reissue?
Avatar 4:01pm Cheri Pi:

Damn skiipy I am & ready to rumble too, those diversifying workshops get me all agitated and wanting to fight the powers that be.
Avatar 4:02pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar 🎸 4:03pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

We did the "behave yourself" sessions over here about a month ago, and all it did was inspire a new wave of hostile-work-environment jokes. Saucy!
  4:03pm SeanG:

it's been a long day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...wondering now if it's just in the nature of rice & what it absorbs or converts - or depends also on where it's grown & what it's fed...what the quantity is compared to, say, apple juice...this is insufficient data
...sound however is kewl...
Avatar 4:07pm Cheri Pi:

Being the group that we are, we have been emboldened to make A LOT of work for our HR department over the next year or so, a sport around here.
Avatar 🎸 4:09pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 4:09pm chocolate monk:

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:09pm dale:

i find the european sizing more accurate - 42 wide here
Avatar 4:10pm Cheri Pi:

That record never sounds the same 2x, I discover something new whenever I hear it.

  4:15pm John Kramer:

Not to be a d*** but don't you think it's pronounced De-KAY-zhia? Like decay, fantasia, etc. Wish I could see it. GREAT show, Fabio.
Swag For Life Member 4:18pm sibeliuss:

I can't believe Fabio liked American Hustle! Such complete trash
Avatar 4:19pm chocolate monk:

American Hustle is an excellent Hollywood movie. Really well done and acted. See it again.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Mike East:

I've been dying to see American Hustle. My wife and I were gonna take turns going because we don't know any babysitters. Anyone wanna babysit my kids?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Mike East:

@Cecile - surprised you haven't caught that yet...seems like your type of movie. btw, I have depicable me2 waiting for me at home tonight.
@DCE - I appreciate it. Just don't give them any rice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Stanley:

This is amazing stuff
Avatar 4:35pm MenfussMike:

I did not like American Hustle....I did not dislike it either.
Avatar 4:36pm glenn:

i figured i should finally watch the first anchorman, so i streamed it last night. i honestly don't get the appeal, other than christina applegate.
Avatar 4:36pm chocolate monk:

I aint ever seen the Hobbit or any of the prior flicks. I saw Polanskis "The Tenant" for the first time a couple of nights ago,, that was a good movie.

I thought "12 Years A Slave" was really good, but had to stop watching "Shame" 20 or so minutes in last night.. might try again,, worth it?? Still haven't seen McQueens first about Bobby Sands..
  4:39pm Donald Flake:

Hi Fabio. Just curious to know if you ever lived/went to record stores in Birmingham. I think I may have got you mistaken with another DJ if not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm DCE:

still trying to catch up on 100 movies I've DVR'd since the summer...I'm watching stuff from August now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Mike East:

@chocolate monk - I thought Shame was worth it, but definitely liked Hunger better. Even if you don't make it through Shame, check that one out.
  4:41pm sdfjones:

For some reason I'd like to see an exploding house right about now.

I always think of the slow-mo raw chicken, from the exploding fridge at the end of Zabriskie point, when Waters starts screaming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm DCE:

there goes the fridge
Avatar 4:44pm InBrkly:

American Hustle reminded me of A Quiet Man. The story seemed secondary to the examination of the aesthetic of an era.
Avatar 4:44pm Night Al:

  4:45pm Donald Flake:

okay. thanks.
Avatar 4:45pm Cecile:

glenn, it is better with beer.
Also, it's just a big heaping helping of stupid, which I can dig.
It's kind of a polarizing movie.
Avatar 4:45pm InBrkly:

or ugliness. take your pick.
Avatar 4:45pm MenfussMike:

I agree InBrkly. Too much 70's chic and it's conclusion was a bit short.
Avatar 4:49pm Cecile:

I'm just amazing that ABSCAM was so long ago.
Avatar 4:50pm glenn:

apparently philadelphia has a notorious swiss cheese pervert. shouldn't they have a notorious cream cheese pervert? nnews.nationalpost.com...
Avatar 4:50pm glenn:

i do love christina applegate, though.
Avatar 4:51pm Cecile:

She is luminous in that movie, which is saying something.
Avatar 4:51pm InBrkly:

I didnt think it was a bad movie--I just thought it was more about the look. If it had better pacing I would have liked it a lot more. The acting was very good though! Hardly recognized Bale.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm common:

it's true about the swiss cheese dude. i'm in philthy. proud.

Swiss is a good choice. Cheddar would be too crumbly and brie would be too soft.
Avatar 4:56pm glenn:

i'm pretty sure a self admitted crack smoker won't be allowed across the border, but you never know.
Avatar 4:57pm Cecile:

Flavor Flav seemed to be able to travel the world pretty freely in his day.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Ike:

I finally saw Anchorman 1 recently too. Better than I was expecting, but C. Applegate was kind of wasted. As with so many other recent comedies, the women get stuck in no-fun roles as disapproving finger-waggers and only the men get to have fun.
Avatar 5:01pm kirk from beer city usa:

is there a program on?
Avatar 5:02pm Cecile:

I still thought she was great, Ike.
I liked that she was the voice of reason. Also, she really beat the crap out of Ron Burgundy with that typewriter.
Avatar 🎸 5:03pm TDK60:

Wasn't aware of the reversed, slowed No Pussyfooting tracks by Fripp & Eno!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Mike East:

yes, Fabio, I am listening. and enjoying. I clicked my first clicky star in a very long time today.
Avatar 5:04pm InBrkly:

Fabio, much like alcohol, your musical selection simply amplifies ones mood. If you are already tranquel, you will be more so. If you are a chatty cathy....
Avatar 5:04pm Cecile:

and she gets some of the funniest lines in the movie.
Avatar 5:05pm 'And III'm Earrl Camembert':

Fabio, your music is manna for those of us with divided attention.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Ike:

If this is radio furniture, then it's the most exquisite Duchamp-esque furniture ever, mangled wooden chairs bundled inside multicolored metal extrusions hanging upside-down off the walls and ceilings.
Avatar 🎸 5:05pm TDK60:

Don't worry Fabio -- for me this is a true music appreciation class.
Avatar 5:06pm Cecile:

Keith Rowe came to town a year or so ago and brought a bunch of Scratch Orchestra pieces that we performed & it was fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Philthy woman:

Common, maybe you are right! Too much time in a car commuting makes people do strange things. Mayhaps the swiss cheese started as a way to not have to make rest stops and stay 'decent' while having convenient holes to let the fluids out,

We lost 2 supporting TV actors today ....

Dave Madden -- who played "The Partridge Family's" aggravated band manager on the 1970s TV show -- has died after a long illness at age 82 ... TMZ has learned.

Madden played Reuben Kincaid on the show ... who was often bedeviled by the antics of the Partridge kids, particularly Danny, played by Danny Bonaduce.

Dave's former agent tells TMZ ... he died of congestive heart and kidney failure early this morning.

Madden also appeared on another popular 70s TV show, "Laugh-In" and was the author of a couple books, including a book of memoirs published in 2007.

We're told Madden died in Florida ... where he lived with his wife.

The actor who played the Professor in "Gilligan's Island" has died ... TMZ has learned.

Russell Johnson, who played Professor Roy Hinkley, died of natural causes at his home in Washington.

Dawn Wells, who played Mary Ann, just posted on Facebook, "My 2 favorite people are now gone. The professor past (sic) away this morning. My heart is broken."

The other person who died is Bob Denver, who played Gilligan. He died in 2005.

Johnson was on the show from 1964 to 1967. Johnson was not in the original opening of the show. He and Mary Ann were referred to as "The rest." But Denver insisted that they be included and that happened later.

Wells went on: "Russell was a true gentleman, a good father, a great friend, and 'the rest.'"

Johnson was married -- this was his third wife. He passed away in hospice, surrounded by his wife and 2 kids.

Johnson was 89.

The only surviving members of the original cast are Mary Ann and Ginger, played by Tina Louise.

Kandy Korn is sorta psych meets post-punk? A precursor?
Avatar 5:44pm Fredericks:

Oh, and "Dachau Blues".

LOVE this song, thanks Fabio

Fredericks, I am glad I am not the only one. I would much rather hear Safe As Milk, Spotlight, Ice Cream for Crow...really any other. Trout Mask is my least favorite Beefheart, yet it seems as it is THE ONE in the public eye.

Another non-Trout Mask fan. Big fan of Doc at the Radar Station and Shiny Beast/Bat Chain Puller and Safe as Milk.

On this day in 1980 - Paul McCartney was jailed in Tokyo for possession of a half pound of marijuana. He spent ten days behind bars before being kicked-out of the country by Japanese authorities. The remainder of his tour was canceled.

There was a period where I read Harkleroad/Rollo's book Lunar Notes and I had a hard time liking Don Van Vliet or his music for a while.

early and instrumental Zappa are great, Joe's Garage and the pop/rock stuff where he tries to be funny not so much
  5:52pm Scott:

I have this bumper sticker, it's a baby's face with Safe As Milk printed next to it. I have it on my office wall. I must have gotten it back in the 1970s, 'cause I found it with some old junk, but I have no idea where I got it. I was into Zappa but never Beefheart, and had no idea that Capt. Beefheart had an album with that name until a few years ago. A mystery I guess.
