Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm northguineahills:

To think Monday night I flew back from Orlando where the highs were 85F/30C and lows were 68F/20C. I bit of a shock to the system.

I've found, that most of my cdrs don't play in most of my cd players or laptops, except my mac book, oddly enough.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Carmichael:

It was low 20s here last night, which tied an all-time low. I was forced to search the closet for a coat.

Sounds good Carmichael. She might have to settle for a Left Hand Nitro Stout and a White Russian for dessert, though.

Avatar 4:27pm steve:

what's the high pitched string instrument? lute?
Avatar 4:30pm glenn:

i would think the highest note on a piano is the highest pitch of a stringed instrument.
Avatar 4:31pm steve:

i meant in the song! but now im curious about that too, that is a good point glenn
Avatar 4:32pm glenn:

oh, i misunderstood. i thought you meant in general.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm DCE:

playing a slide over the bridge pickup on a guitar produces a series of very high notes. You can talk to the birds if you do it right.
Avatar 4:34pm glenn:

in standard tuning, or in dogs only tuning?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Carmichael:

Here's what I could find on a blogspot: "Spaced out japanese noise symposium. Scored in 1972, Hapmoniym swirls around in futuristic fervor, rampant with electronic and distorted live synth. The hour long rampage will keep your attention for its entirety, constant eclectic transitions."
  4:36pm Daisy Chain:

Yes. NOn-failure.
Avatar 4:38pm Chris from DC:

Baby Grandmothers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm tim from champaign:

I thought for the longest time that Magical Power Mako was a 90s noise rock band from Chicago until I read the Japrock Sampler book.
Avatar 4:42pm Cheri Pi:

Damnit-I just rmembered an old goal of mine was to try and collect all the albums mentioned in that book, I have a few but I need to win the lottery for the rest of 'em.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Santos L Halper:

Where are these grandmothers from? i dig it (baby)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm DCE:

long guitar solos are one thing, but this sweet incomprehensible moaning thing takes it to the next level
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm tim from champaign:

Holy moly, CP. That's a serious goal. What band hijacked the plane and took it to North Korea?
  4:49pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

greetings chums. Was able to stream the first half hour via the app plugged into rental car. Great stuff. Getting ready to make a hellish space racket in front of people. Stay hep. Creepy hugs to all concerned.

Avatar 4:53pm kirk from beer city usa:

man, this midwest weather is some crap, but these sounds are really great!
Avatar 4:53pm Chris from DC:

RTD, knock 'em dead.
Avatar 4:54pm Cheri Pi:

One of my homies was trying to guilt trip me about not buying the Phoenix reissues, saying that there was some untowards "copyrighting" issues and such...
Avatar 4:54pm steve:

Heavier Than a Death in the Family is the best
  4:54pm bloopy:

oldboy remake is weird, strange, pointless, goofy. misifire
Avatar 4:55pm Cheri Pi:

Literally RTD, Knock 'em Dead!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Carmichael:

Kick some musical ass, RTD. The manatee will be listening, and will report back to me.
  4:56pm Daisy Chain:

Casey Affleck is pretty darn good too, in addition to all those great actors. I heard Woody gives a great performance. I LOVE Gary Cooper. I love westerns. Thomas Mann is one of my fave directors (of Westerns).
Avatar 4:59pm Madoshi:

Been watching this along with your show. Totally random & it's fit well so far. www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Mike East:

I don't like remaking foreign films. makes no sense to me. Why remake Girl with the Dragon Tattoo? Funny Games? Death at a Funeral? Oldboy? These were good movies the first time around and remaking them adds nothing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Ike:

In response to the mic break -- I hear that Spike Lee's "Oldboy" was one of the biggest bombs EVER at the box office. Maybe fans of the original hated the idea a remake while others had no idea what to make of it...? "Out of the Furnace" hasn't done very well either.

Great music today!
Avatar 5:03pm glenn:

today i saw "fragranced" on a sign. you know the world is ending when fragrance becomes a verb.
Avatar 5:03pm Milson:

Wasn't Funny Games remade by the same director?
Avatar 5:04pm glenn:

actually, the hollywood version of girl with a dragon tattoo is pretty good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm tim from champaign:

I haven't seen the Old Boy remake yet but I always find Spike Lee joints worthwhile.
  5:07pm nic:

i love Eliane !!!!!
Avatar 5:07pm Madoshi:

Enjoying the Elaine Radigue btw, FAbio.

Hunger Games was just a rip off of the Japanese Novel/Film Battle Royale, if you want to talk about Hollywood "remakes".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Rich in Washington:

Call me a corny sentimentalist, but I love this kind of music.
Avatar 5:09pm steve:

tfc - me too. interestingly enough, he didn't put the "A Spike Lee Joint" sub title on the Oldboy posters or promo materials. people think he's trying to distance his name from it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Mike East:

@Milson - Yes, which was weird, to me.
@glenn - I liked it, too, but I didn't think it added anything except for the lack of subtitles and a Trent Reznor soundtrack.
Avatar 5:10pm Milson:

In regards to the "Phoenix" reissues... I think the same thing was said about the Radioactive label... somehow they seem related... maybe if distributors didn't prime the pump and obscure recording gatekeepers didn't beat the drum... this would all be moot... those of us with little spending power would be uninformed... those artist more obscure... the recordings heavily borrowed... but, who knows...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm tim from champaign:

I didn't notice that, steve. Very interesting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Ike:

There are loads of Spike Lee films I've never seen, but "25th Hour", with Edward Norton, is brilliant.
Avatar 5:14pm Cecile:

I read somewhere that Lee liked the film, but was angry because the one fight scene he wanted to do in one take like the original, the studio made him put one cut in there.
  5:14pm Arf!:

Arf! Arf arf! Arf! Arf arf arf! Arf!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm tim from champaign:

"He Got Game" is my favorite Spike Lee joint. I could have done without the Public Enemy remake of "For What It's Worth" though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm Mike East:

@Cecile - that scene in the original is awesome. The one with the hammer, I think.
Avatar 5:20pm Cecile:

Yeah, that was the scene. He wanted to stay true to that part of the original, but it didn't happen.
  5:23pm nic:

Avatar 5:49pm Milson:

I didn't know if there was a history there...
  5:49pm TDK60:

Please Fabio,
Make Clay P. play some Irish avant garde music on his show...

Avatar 5:50pm Cecile:

Avatar 5:50pm Cecile:

...consensus seems to be that he tried to take cred for Heinz Eidelman's work on 'Yellow Submarine' - an artist who had Expressionist elements leaning towards Ralph Steadman...just sayin'...
