Too Much Information is the sober hangover after the digital party has run out of memes, apps and schemes. Host Benjamen Walker finds out that, in a world where everyone overshares the truth 140 characters at a time, telling tales might be the most honest thing to do.

Waiting in Line  About a year ago I travelled across America for the BBC. I visited Airports, Amusement parks, Highways and Community Colleges in order to understand how the priority queue is changing the American experience of waiting in line. A version of this piece aired on the BBC World Service, part of their “Real America” series produced in conjunction with PRX.
Admissions of Defeat  Peter Choyce is one of my oldest friends and a listener favorite, but he has a secret we’ve never addressed until now.

Even in the office, no one cares if I'm surfing wiki, cat picks, WFMUing, looking at stuff on the bbc, or catching up on sports, art, music, etc. As long as my work is done on time, no one cares.

One of my previous gigs on LI the place was so awful...
they had spy cameras watching us all the time, plus, we couldn't do anything fun or personal on the computers, NADA. That place sucked arse. I hated them and hated it. And hated the job too. And then I quit.

what's funny about this segment is that BW is the most interrupty coworker I've ever known
  6:14pm
LovecraftDude888:

I don't even want coworkers anymore after my previous experiences. I'd rather be at home working alone and
listening to music.

Freelance is the way to go (if you can). In fact, I'm "working" right now...

All of my coworkers are 20 years my senior, and are mostly reitred NYPD and FDNY tech dudes. Nice people, but I have nothing in common w/ them.

Quite like this fellow's ideas.

That's another problem where you feel like an alien at work or whatever sometimes. I'm quite a sociable worker though...that's not even my problem half the time. But I've also had terrible experiences and awful bosses...you name it. I'm gun shy. I'd love to freelance FT....but anyway I'm on a disability situation right now, and then I had a book deal but the trouble is/was, the publisher won't offer any like, money or advance!! Can you blame me for being pissed off? Anyway....but I'd rather work at home or freelance, yeah!

I was also reviewing films for Film Forward.com a few years ago and love it, a dream being a real film critic, but..again, no bloody money and the guy misrepresented himself. So...I had to quit that too. Free DVDs are nice but not when you have to pay the rent. I despair.

I stumbled across some NSFW images online at work, but, then again, I never seek out porn.
  6:28pm
LovecraftDude888:

Man, I was at one temp. job in 2001 and some asshole tried to blame his porn on the PC that we shared or I was on at night,
on me, and then I showed the HR guy the evidence that it was in fact HIM, and he got in big trouble, haha!! But then they unplugged me for awhile at my night shift because of all that, even though I was totally innocent of it. I was really angry. This is the new millennium retarded workplace. another reason to want to work at home!

People come into my work location and say, "Boy, it sure is quiet in here!" That's because everyone's working and not screwing around with one another. I have no time to be sociable; I listen online and comment when I get the chance. Otherwise, it's nose to the grindstone.

Here in Germany, lines can be a bit impressionistic.

LovecraftDude888:

that's cause it's like a well-managed co. clearly, and people
are actually busy and engaged, nothing wrong with that.
I don't like the type of paranoid place I was at though
a few years back, spy cameras, terrible management,
no organization, nastiness, asshole coworkers, a nasty
and dirty environment, and such. It sucked. I don't mind
working hard and being busy but that was just horrendous.
But LI is not known for its massive professionalism I hate
to say it.....and sometimes NYC is no better. I found it to be
a very inhospitable place the corporate world. Even publishing.
Even nonprofit. it depends on the co. but still. I don't like it much. I'd rather be working independently. i'd rather be selling
schnitzel or making veggie burgers at this point!
