Sean D. Daily:
Two years later, Mickey Mouse was turning tricks as a male prostitute and robbing convenience stores to support his Peppo habit. |

![]() Full comic story at the link at the bottom. The commentary sounds vaguely disapproving--though, to be fair, we could characterize the commentor as more puzzled than disapproving. |
![]() |
![]() This is a killer first set, I must say. Is that the modern word the kids use for "excellent"? I know that it keeps changing and it's hard for me to keep up. |

This Monsoon album is 30 years old, but sounds like it was recorded tomorrow... but one never knows. |

Sean D. Daily:
Meanwhile, Bugs Bunny was dressing up like a woman to fool Elmer Fudd, and Jerry was hitting Tom in the face with a cast iron frying pan. Which, incidentally, is why I preferred Warner Brothers and MGM over Disney. |

![]() i'm with you, sean. |

The kids--what do they know--that was a peppo first set from Irwin.

![]() You don't have to choose. We have both. |
![]() |
![]() Okay, I meant three. We have all three. |
![]() |
Wed. 11/13/13 3:36pm
Droll:
Our *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.... Our *four*...no... *Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise.... I'll come in again. |

![]() My library research tells me that "Big in Japan" features not only Dragonette but also "Idoling!!!" (with the three exclamation points), "a Japanese female idol group created by Fuji TV." |

![]() Don't let him fool you. The studio phone number still works. |

spodiodi:
Blinkin comments make me feel like I'm on Teh Peppo... |

![]() If I time this right, it will be comment #19. |

Curious, the spell check in this comments box recognizes Irwin, Erwin, Irvin, and Ervin, but not Erwyn, Irwyn, Irvyn, or Ervyn. |

Is it just me or is this the best show ever.....or close to it? Can't wait for Joe Frank. I remember that episode.
![]() |
![]() God, I just got here from Kenzo's mindwarp. Give me about 2 weeks to straighten out. |
Wed. 11/13/13 4:05pm

this is a really really funny one...or tragic, depending on who ya are

Wed. 11/13/13 4:09pm
Sean D. Daily:
So Joe COULD break up with his disorganized, unfaithful, annoying, impossible-to-please girlfriend, but he can't because he needs material for this week's show. |

Bitches, man... bitches. |
Wed. 11/13/13 4:17pm
Robert:
I don't think that comic strip was as naive as the archivist at Erowid seems to have thought. First there's criticism of the medical monopoly; 2nd there's the insinuation that Big Pharma serves as mouthpiece for the GOP. The new synthetic product is posed as the good drug, as opposed to the bad drug, "hash".
Wed. 11/13/13 4:19pm
Robert:
On top of that, a satire of the upcoming regimes of Africa, so easily put in thrall of charlatans who keep the black man down.
Wed. 11/13/13 4:21pm
Robert:
More seriously, though, the newly popular synthetic uppers & downers were the object of a lot of mild satire at the time, of which this seems to be an example.

Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):
The thing about Joe Frank, if you like him, it doesn't even seem matter what he's saying. It sounds good. |
![]() |
Wed. 11/13/13 4:26pm
spodiodi:
I'd like to hear him read the phone book. |
![]() |

Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):
Carmichael: Sorry I didn't build in a detox / welcome-back-to reality segment. |
![]() |
![]() It's OK, Kenzo. I found the rewind x4 button. It's a button, not a knob. |
Wed. 11/13/13 4:33pm
Mike K:
Irwin, do you have the one where he sings this?
![]() |
![]() I don't, but easily found. I think that's the well-known version. Love Chet's singing, rarely play him tho. |
Wed. 11/13/13 4:36pm
Mike K:
Then play him you must. This is especially beautiful the way he sings it and his trumpet playing is exquisite.
![]() |
![]() - I been listenin' & it beeen real good... |
![]() |
![]() Clicky star for 'Other Stars' |
![]() |
![]() ...I mean - JoeFrank, ChetBaker, Wooden Sjips in a row - *&* Mickey's pupils pinned...it's the Happiest Place in the World... |
![]() |
![]() I was just thinking about how long it's been since I've heard Wooden Shjips. Nice Vulcan mind meld, Irwin. |
![]() |
![]() ...your Picturesque Matchstickable Messages from the Status Quo has more songs than mine does - if no fewer words... |
![]() |
Wed. 11/13/13 4:55pm
Droll:
I misread Irving's comment as "Love Cher's singing". Yes, please continue to play her rarely. Except for Two the Hard Way by Allman and Woman, which has comedic value. |
![]() |
![]() This is great, thanks. Beattie really has a way with big, low drums. |
![]() |
![]() - he *is* however enamored of Cher's trumpet-playing..until the tragic day she fell a great distance off of Greg Allman... |
![]() |
Wed. 11/13/13 4:59pm
Droll:
Apparently the Beattie album was Kickstarter funded: ...an epic surreal musical audio drama, a low tech extravaganza whose story is told complete with tunes, dialogue, sound effects and incidental music, packaged inside a beautiful 31 page fully illustrated book, not unlike the old Disney gatefold Buena Vista records. I'd love to see that book! |
![]() |
![]() Nice segue into 7SD - kickstarter and all |
![]() |
![]() Here we go. You're hitting your stride now, Irwin old chum. |

Good Vibrations! best Beach Boys song ever
![]() |
![]() - my argument has always been that people appreciating Skip Spence & Syd Barrett - but thinking 'Smiley Smile' is wrong - never added up for me. |
![]() |
![]() Sol Mogerman? Where have you been all my stardust?! Terrific! |
![]() |
Wed. 11/13/13 5:26pm
Droll:
It's got a good beat and I can dance to it. I give Sol Mogeman a 26. I really like the short-form, how he dispenses with the repetition that characterizes other songwriting schools. |
![]() |
![]() What the hell kind of crazy talk is that, Rabbit?!? You oughta hit 'em in the head with a 2x4, just to shake their brains up. And the best BB song ever is I Can Hear Music. |
![]() |
![]() I agree w/ the last 6 comments.... |
![]() |
![]() I think JF was jealous of Sol's simultaneous finger-picking and percussion stylings. |
Wed. 11/13/13 5:28pm

Saw Eugene Chadbourne this weekend. Mogerman is giving me a flashback.

Carm, "His own Bluesbreakers was an unusual line-up, including an electric violin, but no drums." You can hardly blame the guy for trying to keep those jokers out of his band. |

dcp, So he's almost ready for parole? Groovin' to the space-age vibes (pun intended). |

![]() Was Mr. Ho the guy who taught Napoleon Dynamite how to dance? |
![]() |
![]() Isn't it warped that in the U.S. a fanny is a butt. But in the UK a fanny is 180 degrees around. |
