Avatar 3:11pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

YAY, failure.
...and oddly, my favorite Beach Boys tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Mike East:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Mike East:

not that odd, Rev...what a great song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm DCE:

I've experienced much failure firsthand the last few days. Looking forward to some unfailingly good times in the future!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm common:

That is a great beach boys tune.
Avatar 3:19pm Cecile:

my favorite BB tune, too!
Avatar 3:21pm kirk from beer city usa:

this pauline oliveros track is really great
Avatar 3:21pm Chris from DC:

Meanwhile this Pauline Olliveros is brilliant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Mike East:

see, RTD. What would be odd HERE, is if someone said their favorite Beach Boys tune was Barbara Ann or some shit.
Avatar 3:24pm Droll:

. o O ( Imagining 4-part vocal harmonizing of "Some Shit" )
That would definitely be my favorite Beach Boys song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm braveness23:

That Pauline Oliveros made me happy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Mike East:

I agree Droll. The Beach Boys didn't curse enough.
Avatar 3:27pm Cecile:

on record, maybe. Mike Love has a pretty foul mouth in his stage rants.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Mike East:

hehe...good point, Cecile
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Mike East:

sweet...harmonium, I was right. thinking about getting my wife a cheap harmonium for xmas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm tim from champaign:

I saw Pauline Oliveros perform once and participated in her Deep Listening workshop. Pretty great.
  3:29pm anne:

Death is failure (organ).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm rsj:

hit the Fab Lou Reed tribute multiple times over the weekend, bought that live 1969 album due to that what goes on version, holy moly indeed!
Failure of death
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm tim from champaign:

Get me one too while you're at it, Mike. For Xmas that is.
Avatar 3:31pm Cecile:

rsj that is a killer album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Mike East:

@tim - I'll see what I can do. Money's tight, but maybe I can get a buy 1 get 1 deal at Harmoniums R Us
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm braveness23:

fine, thanks...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Mike East:

we have the foot pump type where I work (which is what it sounded like was used on the Pauline Oliveros track). So much fun to play with.
Avatar 3:35pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Jeezus. I step away to take a call and I miss the harmonium giveaway.... so what's left, a filthy wood flute stuffed with locusts?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Mike East:

I may have an out of tune cimbalom for you, Rev
Avatar 3:39pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

my favorite key!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm tim from champaign:

Aw, jeez, thanks Mike!
Avatar 3:42pm Chris from DC:

It's worth paying just a bit more for a good harmonium. I bought a cheap one, and it's nice and all, but I'll probably by new eventually.
  3:42pm nic:

love this _oliveros 2
  3:42pm mobro:

Bruce Nauman
  3:44pm mac:

What is the name of the song that was playing in the background when discussing Pauline Oliveros... its driving me crazy
Avatar 3:47pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I am so very much gonna play this Sten Hanson piece from archive for the dog when I get home. I MUST see his reaction...
Avatar 3:48pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

...he will jump outta his FACE.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm braveness23:

I feel like I am listening in on someones private enjoyment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm braveness23:

Avatar 3:50pm Sem Chumbo:

Multiple yups.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Mike East:

@Chris from DC - that's my inclination as well...my wife is a complete musical novice, though. This is the one she mentioned wanting:
  3:51pm Tony:

This is NSFW! I had to turn my volume way down...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Mike East:

depends on where you work, Tony
  3:52pm steve:

I'm at home and i had to turn the volume down!
Avatar 3:53pm Chris from DC:

Mike, that looks like a good one to start.
  3:53pm Tony:

I have my own office luckily, but I keep the door open and I was worried someone might walk past.
Avatar 3:53pm Lucy:

sounds like if zizek and herzog had a baby!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Mike East:

I think my exhaustion is making me a bit too commenty...gonna dial it back.
Avatar 3:54pm Cecile:

I imagine Toki Wartooth's minister father in Metalopocalypse sounding like this.
Avatar 3:57pm Lucy:

Avatar 4:01pm chocolate monk:

Sten hanson was/is a legend!
Avatar 4:01pm Inner Ear Detour:

  4:05pm mac:

Avatar 4:06pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Good lord, steve, thanks; I had a version by Astralasia during the heady '90s rave days, couldn't place the name...
  4:09pm steve:

girlfriend left her copy here 2-3 years ago... just checked to make sure it's still here
  4:26pm anne:

  4:27pm frozen goose:

it was no1 in england in about 1977 or probably 1978 as that seems to be the best year for music ever-- i remeber it on top of the pops as a kid, with a video of blokes in astronaut helmets playing keytars-- far out
Avatar 4:29pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

astronaut gear + keytars = tv gold, that is.
  4:30pm frozen goose:

yes-- all kind of saturated colour and blurry to-- unless thjat was our crap telly
Avatar 4:33pm Cecile:

FoTC stole from the Space video when they did "Bowie" on the show
Avatar 4:37pm Cecile:

Avatar 4:40pm kirk from beer city usa:

oh man, I had no idea, but now I do!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Rich in Washington:

Yes, Superior Viaduct.
Avatar 4:40pm kirk from beer city usa:

oops, cecile was two seconds faster
  4:45pm frozen goose:

they are Italian Fabio!
Avatar 4:46pm Cecile:

I am always blown away by acts that sell 10 million records outside of the US. It gives me a kind of hope.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Mike East:

I think that keytar in the FoTC video is from us...the other synths, too, possibly.
Avatar 4:48pm Cecile:

nice, Mike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm DCE:

we'll never know
  4:51pm anne:

Herzog is so good. HE IS A NATIONAL TREASURE. I hope he is around for a long, long time. He sure doesn't take long breaks from filmwork like other directors (David Lynch). I think he loves working. Yay.
Avatar 4:54pm Cecile:

he actually directed some heartwrenching PSAs on the dangers of text and driving recently. And his doc on the death penalty was just devastating.
Avatar 4:55pm Cecile:

I know what you mean, though, anne. I wish Bill Forsythe would make another film.
  4:56pm anne:

@cecile, wow, I have to check those out. Thanks.
@Fabio What is the most demented song you ever heard. Can you play it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Mike East:

@Cecile - that texting/driving PSA made me cry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Mike East:

(which, to me, is the sign of a superb film-maker)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Mike East:

(one sign)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Ike:

"The trees here are in misery, and the birds are in misery. I don't think they... they sing. They just screech in pain."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Ike:

(meanwhile the birds chirp perfectly normally behind him)
Avatar 5:01pm Cecile:

hahahah, that's our Werner!
  5:02pm anne:

@Ike--yeah, I love that guy.
Avatar 5:12pm Cecile:

Herzog PSA, it's 30 min but worth it. Bits and pieces show up on TV in the US:
Avatar 5:16pm Chris from DC:

Perfect sunset music here. Very nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Mike East:

I can see Venus.
Avatar 5:20pm Lucy:

bkgnd music reminds me of soviet era aerobics tunes. hawt in tha spandex tonight!
Avatar 5:35pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

This is genius.
  5:39pm anne:

Yeah, I like this a lot. What are they doing? playing things backwards?
Avatar 5:43pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

....and this....
Avatar 5:45pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I feel a caps-lock coming on...
Avatar 5:52pm northguineahills:

Wow, almost missed Strength Through Failure....
Avatar 5:52pm dale:

  5:53pm nic:

  5:53pm TDK60:

Gracias for Soft Machine. I also hear many foreign turistas mentioning @ Lou R. this last week.

  5:56pm LovecraftDude888:

I was saying last night I was at the Berlin film tribute at
MMI in Astoria Sat. night: it was too cool Glad I went. Does anybody know of any formal concerts or tributes or anything
in NYC or nearby for Lou that might be planned? I wish I had
the means to do it myself.

  5:58pm LovecraftDude888:

I met goddamned Tony LoBianco last year! He signed my FC DVD! it was killer.
Avatar 5:58pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Catholic school refugee here, as well (grades 1-4) ... in our place you had the option of confession thru the barrier thing or you could sit in the box with the priest dude, face to face.

...i used it as an opportunity to ask all my 4th-grade nerd questions, are there demons? Is the devil really in music? etc.
  5:58pm Ray L:

Avatar 5:58pm Cecile:

FABIO! Pay attention!
  5:58pm ScottC:

  5:58pm dinatekno:

Avatar 5:59pm davex:

Hey, that's eight minutes of content more than most of us have.
  5:59pm LovecraftDude888:

I'm a total FC nut and Exorcist and anything Friedkin really. At least the earlier stuff.

Avatar 6:02pm Lucy:

Avatar 6:11pm dale:

lovecraftdude - 'sorcerer' is GREAT!
  8:48pm 118664:

RIP Sten. Someone at WFMU/UBU might want to update the ubu page (http://www.ubu.com/sound/hanson.html) accordingly. It seems to be about the best source of information about him on the net in any case.
