A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

good jellow morning musical pals...hold on to your 45 adapters! it's going to be a speedlicious morn. well at least for me it is..
Avatar Tue. 10/22/13 9:11am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...during Therese's show it came to me that 45s sound noticeably different than LPs - I had forgotten that...

  Tue. 10/22/13 9:15am diabetic dave:

Many years ago well actually it was Mir than 30 I had over 100 45's. Mistake I made was storing them in the basement. 1986 hurricane Andrew flossed my basement and ruined them
  Tue. 10/22/13 9:19am doca:

Hi, Trouble, thanks for the palace, it's been years I didn't listened to this particular song <3
  Tue. 10/22/13 9:20am Jack:

I'm also noticing more presence, immediacy of the 45's, more than the LP's or CD's you usually hear (not to mention MP3's). In the audiophile world, this is a known phenomenon-if you are willing to spend the bucks, LP's remastered and pressed at 45 RPM are available, and said to kill even the audiophile 33 RPM pressings...just sayin'...
  Tue. 10/22/13 9:21am doca:

has the daylight saving time in new jersey area already been through or it there some weeks left?
Avatar Tue. 10/22/13 9:21am Trouble:

doca, your welcome. it's the first Palace song i fell deeply in love with...
Avatar Tue. 10/22/13 9:21am Trouble:

no we go to daylight savings time in nov, nov 3 i think...
Avatar Tue. 10/22/13 9:22am egal:

doca: 1st weekend in November
Avatar Tue. 10/22/13 9:22am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...7"s have that quality of being more a >POP< object - somewhat more ephemeral & even disposable - & suitable for multiple play & wearing out....
- We discussed it on Therese's board - you have more 'data' going by the stylus @ higher speeds - & the grooves are farther apart...
Avatar Tue. 10/22/13 9:22am Trouble:

jack, i hear you, but is the same sound improvement heard in 7" records played at 33? i have already played some 33's today
  Tue. 10/22/13 9:23am doca:

Thanks, Trouble and Egal. It's that I already went one hour ahead because of DST in my timezone. Soon the 9am programs will be noon programs
Avatar Tue. 10/22/13 9:25am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I would frequently have 12" LPs that wouldn't even play on my crap player - but big Bass on 45s seemed to work better...
Avatar Tue. 10/22/13 9:26am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...if I remember right!...

Avatar Tue. 10/22/13 9:31am popsicornia:

some of my most memorable 7" records came in cereal boxes, little cardboard squares.
  Tue. 10/22/13 9:33am Jack:

Wouldn't expect 7" 33's to sound any better...as I understand it, the 2 factors involved in fidelity on vinyl that relate here are the speed (45, natch), and the space between grooves, so a 45 RPM 12 inch doesn't have to crowd the grooves, especially the inner grooves as much. Breaking out a 33 RPM album onto 2 slabs of vinyl, thus helps crowded grooves (my true geek is coming out...)
  Tue. 10/22/13 9:35am Jack:

On second thought, spacing of grooves probably is still better on a 7" 33 RPM with 1 song than it would be on a 12" LP with 6 songs or so...
Avatar Tue. 10/22/13 9:36am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...less space as you get to Center - hm...
Avatar Tue. 10/22/13 9:37am bobdoesthings:

Bill just played at Issue Project Room the other week.. great show!
Avatar Tue. 10/22/13 9:38am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& of course Singles often had different Mixes & things like this - sometimes 'rush-released' - if not in fact Engineered w/ a different format in mind technically/sonically...
Avatar Tue. 10/22/13 9:39am tim from champaign:

Howdy all! Have any of you ever run into the derisive attitude that 45/7" are too cool for school? I've run into it a few times and really don't understand that attitude. 7's are there to buy just like any other recorded media.
Avatar Tue. 10/22/13 9:40am northguineahills:

Never in my world, tim....
Avatar Tue. 10/22/13 9:41am Andrew Waterloo:

@Tim, I can understand being turned off by the value proposition, but 7's are too fun not to love. When I didn't have a record player it was the 7's that really made feel left out.
  Tue. 10/22/13 9:42am Jack:

Boy, after having Linda Rondstat's version imprinted, this is a breath of fresh air (smog and all)
Avatar Tue. 10/22/13 9:42am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- well - the irony is w/ digital files - the 'Single' is reemergent...Jim Morrison made the point that the Album had supplanted the painting or novel as the primary format for Art Statements - the real Concept behind 'Concept Albums' really being that the LP was what it was - a single long Piece in a notable 12" Circling of a Square...

I'd say that album as an artistic statement was a minor rash on film's behind. Especially when we have to call Morrison Hotel and Darkside of the Moon great artistic statements.

- great unique genre-defying singer - great songs - totally stylin' arrangements quite free of any extraneous Producer errors (like backing singers on Buddy Holly that might be questionable)...

Actually, the arrangements are great, but the backing singers still drive me up a tree. They had 'em on everything - even hank senior.
