Live set by CCR Headcleaner!

Oakland CA's CCR Headcleaner produce a riff-heavy monster din that is massive, raw, and very very druggy. The 4 members sport backgrounds in The Hospitals, Jealousy, Long-Legged Woman, and Jackie-O Motherf(&$er, and manage to sound nothing like any of those bands, while digesting some tendencies of all... and also, Doo-Wop.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm DCE:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Matt from Springfield:

Go Negativland!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Ike:

Negativland is awful good. Scarlatina was just awful. But, also an undeniable WFMU classic. An awful classic. Or maybe classically awful? Like incorrect music, but spoken word. Incorrect words? I DON'T EVEN HAVE A BOSOM.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Scott Williams:

Wow, we're up 45% already in the 1st 20min! Thank you pledgers!! Only about $300 to go, please help me get there my friends!

Avatar 3:23pm Cecile:

if youi have Rappin' Rodney, you are my hero.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Ike:

Oh WOW. Haven't heard "The Contra Rap" probably since I listened to Dr. Demento in the late 80s. This was a fave back then.
Avatar 3:25pm Roberto:

Oh my. Wow. Didn't know this existed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Scott Williams:

I wish! These were 2 lucky finds - to do Rodney, I'd have to cheat. Which, you know, I SHAN'T!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm tim from champaign:

Wow! I wonder if Rich Little was listening to Steinski when he made this. Best 7" so far today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm efd:

Wow, this "Contra Rap" is really .... something.
Avatar 3:25pm Bas NL:

I vote for more 7'' records; this is awesome!!

Noooooooooo! Last time BT played Sister Mary Elephant I had tears in my eyes and could barely keep it together at my desk.

I got the walking flu, but otherwise, had a good week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Carmichael:

I still have that huge rolling paper in the Cheech and Chong album. I didn't give in and roll an ounce like most of my idiot friends.
Avatar 3:48pm Cecile:

Benny Hill or at least the Banana Splits should be running around to this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Carmichael:

I always identified with Fleegle.
Avatar 3:51pm Cecile:

I was more a Snorky girl myself.
Avatar 3:54pm northguineahills:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm tim from champaign:

ngh - come join my crew. plenty of idiots to befriend (including myself).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm tim from champaign:

I like the actor/actress versions of the True Stories songs better than the Talking Heads versions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Carmichael:

I remember this as a strange movie. David Byrne in a cowboy hat, driving a limo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Carmichael:

Or make that a Cadillac ...
Avatar 4:01pm northguineahills:

I suppose that'd be a self-reflexive description of myself.

John Goodman? ok...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Mike East:

I do love this movie. I love the version that John Goodman sings acapella when he's first "writing it"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Scott Williams:

it's a great movie! very 1986 in its "irony"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Carmichael:

I prefer my cinematic irony statements from Ethan Hawke and Terri Polo via "Mystery Date". Also, GWAR was in it.
  4:07pm Stanley The M Guy:

(It is a great movie)
Avatar 4:13pm northguineahills:

I've been revisiting 80s movies the last few weeks since I've had the pad to myself. Will add it to my queue. (Already listen to Vicki already all the time......)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Mike East:

man, Carmichael - how did I miss that one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Mike East:

@ngh - speaking of 80's movies, I introduced my 8 yr old to Ghostbusters on Saturday. An important milestone in any child's life.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm tim from champaign:

I've got the Ghostbusters 7" with an instrumental version on the b side.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Mike East:

its funny, tim...she knew the song and started singing along when it came on. I asked, "have you seen this before?" she said she didn't...but she knew OF it. So glad its still in the cultural conscious of the youth today....there is no dana, only zuul.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Andrew Waterloo:

@Mike, I watched that with my daughter when she was 8. She then told me how we should tell her mother that we watched it.

Avatar 4:42pm Cheri Pi:

Nuclear approval.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm tim from champaign:

I concur with the above statements.

CCR Headcleaner played on a pretty killer bill last Friday in Chicago with Fuzz, Purling Hiss and The Men.
Avatar 4:47pm Cheri Pi:

Whoa, massive lineup TfC.
Avatar 4:53pm northguineahills:

I was going to go w/ heavy, Cheri Pi, but since kg measures mass, you are more technically correct, the best kind of correct! (obviously, no references to lbs.)
  4:54pm bpdun88:

Scott: Listener and occasional volunteer Brian here. I LOVE these guys. Best thing out of Oakland since Sistas in the Pit. Actually, probably not true. Some good stuff out of Oakland...
Avatar 4:55pm Cheri Pi:

I bet the break-downs were like boulders falling, eh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm tim from champaign:

Yeah, I didn't make it of course. The Spits played the next night. Nope, didn't make it to that either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm common:

good stuff scott! thanks.
Avatar 5:00pm Cheri Pi:

i hear dat TfC-tonight Mutilation Rites are playing a not-so-secret house party in the 'Natti, but my evening will undoubtedly consist of cats, beersies and comfy, very comfy pants. Sorry boys.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Carmichael:

Oh man, you went and mentioned beersies. Now my thirst cannot be slaked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm tim from champaign:

My good buddy who homebrews makes a pretty damn good Two Hearted knockoff. I got messed up on it Friday night.

CP - did you go to Kumas and Three Floyds yet?
Avatar 5:20pm Chris from DC:

Trying to be good today, and this talk of beersies makes it tough. Man those Exile ESBs sitting in the fridge are calling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Carmichael:

A plethora of micro breweries in my area -- at least 10. The pickins are plentiful, and my sobriety has been actively challenged this weekend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Scott Williams:

Pals, I'm gettin' panicky! Great start to the show today, but I'm still sitting at 68% of my goal! It's real nice to see that cow lowin', but I really wanna see that doggie's tail wag some before 6pm! Help me??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Carmichael:

Ronnie Lane!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Matt from Springfield:

All right, this is one of the best Faces!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm tim from champaign:

I tapped out, Scott, but I'll cheerlead for you.

C'mon folks! Let's get out good buddy Scott to the goal! If you haven't pledged yet please consider doing so during Scott's show. Think about all the excellent live bands he's brought us. Go Scott and WFMU!
  5:27pm CraigD:

Peeps, I don't want to offend but don't ya' start feeling a little less than adult when you write "beersies" all the time? What's wrong with "beers" the century old name for this most magical of elixirs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Scott Williams:

danke tfc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Matt from Springfield:

It's moving up! Keep it going, Scott-ish fans!
Avatar 5:30pm Serpico:

@CraigD i don't drink :)

how's it going Scott?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Scott Williams:

allow me to recommend the $100 level! The black knit cap w/ the blob FMU logo on it is sooo badass - easily the best cap we've ever done!
Avatar 5:32pm Mr. Lowry:

I haven't heard this in twenty-five years.
Avatar 5:34pm Serpico:

looking at the previous comments, True Stories was a good movie! Very David Byrne. where can one find actor/actress versions of the songs?
Avatar 5:36pm Serpico:

ah man i missed a Negativland track!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Ike:

On Sat., I ordered a Mother's Milk stout. I'd only had sips before and it seemed OK. But trying to finish even half a glass was like detaching my tongue and ordering it to sort through a muddy grain elevator by itself. I must have autism of the tongue. Thus, I shall never be a beer peep here. Sigh.
Avatar 5:38pm northguineahills:

Already done Scott. Plus, I use knit caps as sleep masks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm tim from champaign:

Serpico - I'm pretty sure there's a proper soundtrack to True Stories that has the actor/actress versions. I haven't seen a copy in ages so I always enjoy hearing the songs in the movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Matt from Springfield:

Joan was quizzical, studied Pataphysical--alcohol! in London and Strasbourg!
Avatar 5:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I don't particularly drink beersies to feel adult...
Avatar 5:41pm Cecile:

you got Hot for Teacher?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Carmichael:

How about "Barley Pop"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Matt from Springfield:

This song about cassettes goes out to Clay Pigeon!
Avatar 5:42pm Cecile:

Ike, don't worry about it, I have several frriends who like every alcohol but beer. That's how it goes.
Avatar 5:42pm Serpico:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63 what do you drink? :)
  5:43pm Chris:

What do you call this beat/sound? Was popular for a while there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Carmichael:

Does "split 7' " mean two songs on one side? And 1 or 2 on the flip?
Avatar 5:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Annabelle was *not* an adult (...shhh)...

- prefer tinto vino mostly - like Guinness & Sierra Nevada & Brutal Bitter - cuase the pub has it - w/ Guinness & ...stuff...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Ike:

Craig@5:27, I couldn't agree more. But as I cannot choke the stuff down, maybe I don't get to vote on the semantics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Matt from Springfield:

@Chris: I call the drumming sound on post-punk bands like Adam Ant and Bow Wow Wow as the "jungle beat".
Avatar 5:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- 'Burundi' - style drums?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Scott Williams:

that's the "Burundi Beat". a split 7" is shared by more than 1 artist
Avatar 5:44pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Matt from Springfield:

Oh wow! Knew of the country Burundi, didn't realize it gave its name to that beat!
Avatar 5:45pm northguineahills:

I enjoy the tastes of all alcohol beverages, as long as it's not sweet. However, beer is the only beverage I can still drink if crappy.
Avatar 5:46pm Serpico:

any C-86? :D
Avatar 5:46pm Cecile:

Gene and Paul are nuttin' without this guy right HEAH.
  5:46pm CraigD:

Hey guys, I love all of you and I am sorry for criticizing beersies. F-Me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Carmichael:

Aha, thanks Scott! It's all making sense.

Isn't that Burundi thing a variant on the Bo Diddley beat? Seems that way to my ears.
  5:47pm ScottC:

1981? San Francisco -original Pretenders line-up headlining w/ Bow Wow Wow opening and - as I recall Anabelle had to be off stage at a certain time - 10:30? or the Kabuki Club would be in violation of city child labor laws
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Matt from Springfield:

@Serpico: Don't have that original cassette but I won the CD-86 Birth of Indie Pop comp from pledging to WFMU - that's a great one!
Avatar 5:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

..we give you a big beersie bearsie hug...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Matt from Springfield:

...yeah - that 'OH!' was a rat up Germaine's leg...
Avatar 5:49pm Serpico:

@Matt from Springfield nice!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Ike:

Aw dang, Craig, you're not gonna go in w/me on grammatical jihadsies? Bummersies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Carmichael:

Scott! Did you live in SF in 81? My gosh, we could have rocked at the same clubs. Kabuki is gone now, replaced by movie theaters. I hung out a lot at Bimbo's.

I saw Utopia at the Kabuki in '82.
Avatar 5:50pm Cecile:

damn, this song still destroys me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: "I Want Candy" is the Bo Diddley beat -- to me that involves not just the drums but also that repetitive bluesy guitar riff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Matt from Springfield:

THE best 10cc song.
  5:51pm CraigD:

I'm not in love, no no.
Avatar 5:51pm Cecile:

Hrm. I might debate that slightly, but definitely their best single.
  5:51pm Stanley the M Guy:

I agree Matt
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Carmichael:

I've got your picture,
Upon the wall;
It hides a nasty stain that's lying there.
  5:52pm CraigD:

Grrreat pop.
  5:52pm jt:

"Not in Love" The guy in the song is just a class-A jerk
Avatar 5:53pm Roberto:

Meh. This song = heartbreak for Roberto in Guadalajara, summer '88.

  5:53pm ScottC:

@Carmichael - Yes - born and raised. I worked at the On-Broadway and The Temple back then - did you go to any RRZ shows?
  5:54pm CraigD:

So glad you did not play "I don't like reggae...."
  5:54pm foo:

Why you play radio cut version of, "I'm not in love?" Sad panda.
Avatar 5:55pm Cecile:

jt, do you want to know the story behind it?
Eric Stewart wanted to not jinx himself by saying I love you all the time to his new bride, so he'd come up with things like "oh, I'm not in love" to her as a joke. The band heard him and they made it into a more angsty song.

Mr. Stewart and his bride celebrated 40 years of marriage recently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Matt from Springfield:

On the same page with you, Stanley!

@RRN63: That's one of those classic, "canon" cocktails but I've never tried. Good in summer you say?

Avatar 5:57pm Joe B:

nominating Ray price/Ooh La La for segue of the month! great show Scott
Avatar 5:57pm Cecile:

Mr. Stewart later got over himself and expressed himself more freely. Also, Creme and Godley prevented the song from being a samba. For that there is a special place in heaven for them.
Avatar 5:57pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- mostly whiskey, water & lemon Matt. I tell 'em not so much sugar...
