Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:03pm Dave Mandl:

Evening, music lovers.
  Sun. 9/22/13 9:04pm doca:

evening, dave. lovely way to make a transition from monica's show
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:05pm Dave Mandl:

@DLBRRN63: We've got way more than dos Daves here.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:05pm Droll:

I can only say good things about dual-bass. It should be as normal as dual guitar or keyboard or vocals.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:05pm David L.B. is RRN63:

Los Daves.
  Sun. 9/22/13 9:06pm Kathy:

Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:07pm Dave Mandl:

@doca: Thanks. I hit that nail on the head occasionally.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:07pm Dave Mandl:

@Droll: As a bassist, I completely support that view.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:08pm David L.B. is RRN63:

I read or heard somewhere that Coltrane wanted two basses after he used LSD to create a broader/suspended sense of time. Might even be so.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:08pm Dave Mandl:

@Kathy: That's what I'm asking you: What's that bassist's name.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:09pm David L.B. is RRN63:

Costello: I dunno!
Abbott: ....Third....Bass.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:09pm davex:

Muchos Daves...
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:10pm Droll:

DM, You were on the drum special posing as a drummer! Wannabe! You're just a bassist!
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:11pm David L.B. is RRN63:

...look - I throw it to Dave, Who gets it - ?!...
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:12pm Dave Mandl:

@Droll: I'm a Sunday drummer.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:14pm Droll:

Well, I hate to inform you bass is my primary instrument, and there's not enough room on this playlist for two of us despite what I said a few minutes ago.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:15pm BDR:

Hey Man, thanks for music. Have you listened to/played any Bérangère Maximin, cause Bryce played some this past Friday and wow and wow since I've listened to what I found since. Struck me as something you might dig.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:16pm Dave Mandl:

@Droll: How about if I play the E and A strings and you play the D and G?
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:17pm David L.B. is RRN63:

Look, if I throw the ball to first Bass, somebody's gotta get it. Now Who has it?
...Oh - that would be John Entwistle...
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:18pm Dave Mandl:

@BDR: Da nada. And I think I played B.M. last week? Maybe the week before.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:19pm Dave Mandl:

@DLBRRN63: Guess Who!
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:21pm David L.B. is RRN63:

Was Not Was?
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:21pm BDR:

Heh, what's that herb I keep sprinkling on my foot before inserting into ear, I forget....

Abbott: No Means No.
  Sun. 9/22/13 9:26pm 12539:

@Dave, track titles:

Looks like you played "Home Hat Placement."
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:29pm Dave Mandl:

@12539: Thanks! I guess they're internet-only track titles.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:30pm Dave Mandl:

Hey there, Kitty.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:36pm David L.B. is RRN63:

- Yes.
...& Tomorrow's pitching...
  Sun. 9/22/13 9:36pm Richard from Venezuela:

Hello Dave and all the listeners.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:48pm Dave Mandl:

Greetings, Richard.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:53pm Droll:

Mellotron, but not in the 20 minute song? You're losing your edge, Mandl.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 9:56pm David L.B. is RRN63:

...it went out of tune - what could he do...
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:03pm Dave Mandl:

I think 20 minutes of Mellotron might be too much of a good thing.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:05pm Droll:

DM, Exactly -- prog rock had to come to it's logical conclusion at that point.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:08pm David L.B. is RRN63:

...what's worse - 2000 lightyears
- or 20 minutes of mellotron from home?...
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:11pm Dave Mandl:

2000 Light Years does have some great M'tron in it.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:12pm David L.B. is RRN63:

Was Not Was?
- That's Why...
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:12pm pacific standard simon:

I was just listening to the Mellotron-only version of "2000 Light Years" today on Bitslap.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:13pm pacific standard simon:

Oh, and hello.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:13pm Droll:

That song gives me fucking chills.

Stevie is the artist most likely to make you smile involuntarily.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:13pm davex:

Why's in Left Field.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:14pm David L.B. is RRN63:

...look: I make obscure in-jokes
...& Who get's it - ?!?!....
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:18pm Dave Mandl:

@pss: For real? I need to hear that.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:21pm David L.B. is RRN63:

- Frank plays outakes of Stones stuff on fxo now & then...
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:23pm David L.B. is RRN63:

...but of course, that's Tomorrow...
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:26pm David L.B. is RRN63:

You don't want to tell me today?

I'm telling you now.

Then go ahead.

Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:26pm pacific standard simon:

@Dave - most recent Bitslap With KB podcast, last track:

Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:30pm Dave Mandl:

@pss: Thanks! I missed that KBC show. Gotta check it out.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:32pm pacific standard simon:

It's a real goody!
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:33pm David L.B. is RRN63:

Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:34pm David L.B. is RRN63:

Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:41pm pacific standard simon:

It's not on the radio -- but there's a nice big archive of mp3 and pop-up player shows.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:42pm David L.B. is RRN63:

Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:44pm Dave Mandl:

...it's not I Don't Care like the shortstop
- it's I Too Tired & will listen now away from keyboard & in horizontal orientation...
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:46pm pacific standard simon:

Been running all day, Rabbit?
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:48pm pacific standard simon:

The genius of Ivor Cutler...
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:48pm Droll:

I wish I could fake Ivor Cutler's accent. I prefer it to... to... English.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:49pm pacific standard simon:

He was the guy who just sits there on the bus fantasizing.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:52pm pacific standard simon:

Buster Bloodvessel
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:56pm Dave Mandl:

@pss: Yup, that's him.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 10:58pm pacific standard simon:

I have to say -- that movie holds up better than any of the other Beatles movies, except Hard Day's Night.
  Sun. 9/22/13 11:02pm 12539:

Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:03pm Dave Mandl:

@12539: The Barry Hall piece? He played "globular horns"
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:04pm Dave Mandl:

I'm not sure what they're playing on this track, but I like it.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:05pm pacific standard simon:

Sounds like the classic wax paper and comb!
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:06pm Droll:

I hereby announce I quit bass, I now play "globular horns" primarily. I studied under Barry Hall.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:06pm Dave Mandl:

I could never get that to work.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:07pm Dave Mandl:

@Droll: That's a rare privilege.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:07pm Droll:

Wax Paper & Comb = Kazoo?
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:09pm pacific standard simon:

Same idea, even cheaper materials.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:11pm pacific standard simon:

What about hornular globes? Where can that be studied?
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:14pm Nardo:

Top shelf selections this evening.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:15pm Droll:

pss, They don't teach it any more. The weeder course, globular globes, flunks out so many students they got rid of the major entirely.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:18pm pacific standard simon:

That explains everything! Or anything worth knowing, anyway.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:21pm Dave Mandl:

@Nardo: Greetings, and thanks.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:24pm Droll:

Where is listener G? Long time no see... Surely "Finnegan's Wake" playing an album called "Red" is some kind of Bat-signal to him...
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:25pm pacific standard simon:

That's a good question -- I haven't spotted G in a moon or two.
  Sun. 9/22/13 11:25pm KP:

Like Finnegan's Wake. Picked it up
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:26pm pacific standard simon:

I note with some melancholy that Carolyn Cassady passed away the other day.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:27pm Dave Mandl:

@KP: Cool.
@pss: Not cool.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:28pm pacific standard simon:

We're down to less than a handful of real Beats.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:29pm Dave Mandl:

She just died on Friday? I didn't know. End of an era.
  Sun. 9/22/13 11:33pm trish:

RIP. Reminds me of that fine doc 'Love Always Carolyn" from a few years ago http://www.hotdocs.ca/film/title/love_always_carolyn_-_a_film_about_kerouac_cassady_and_me
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:37pm pacific standard simon:

I have a feeling that, of the three of them, Carolyn is the one I would prefer to be sitting next to on a long Greyhound bus trip.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:43pm Dave Mandl:

@trish: I've never seen that. Will check it out. Thanks.
  Sun. 9/22/13 11:47pm trish:

Well worth seeing, yes. Note that the site is a bit deceiving in its handling of present/past schedules; it was screened in 2011.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:55pm Droll:

Two 21-minute pieces in one show? Just two? That would be a pitiful excuse for a prog radio show. Surely you could fill 3 hours with only 6 songs/sides!
There's always next week...
  Sun. 9/22/13 11:56pm KP:

PSS, great comment re: Greyhound
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:57pm Dave Mandl:

That'll do it for me, folks. Thanks for being there, and have a great week.
  Sun. 9/22/13 11:58pm 12539:

Thanks, Mr Mandl.
Avatar Sun. 9/22/13 11:58pm pacific standard simon:

Another mind-expanding show, Dave. It's great to come home from work get a musical contact high this way.

@KP - thank you. I've been on the road before, and real life isn't often art.
