![]() on time for a change- let's rock. Coe! DK! |
![]() |
![]() ROCK |
![]() |
![]() OK, I can ask the cinderblock question today. Michael and Drew, which big 4 thrash band do you want to hit with a cinder block? |
![]() |
![]() Back from Italia and tuned in. Hello! Buon giorno! \m/ |
![]() |
![]() Normal questions: Which band does Michael regret not having signed? Which artist would he hang out with as a friend? How hard did he laugh during chunks of "Some Kind of Monster?" |
![]() |
![]() Do they worship Donnie Vie's talent? Give some examples how. |
![]() |
![]() I'm trying to change careers and be an artist in my 50s as well. Any advice? |
![]() |
![]() Orale. Greetings everyone! |
![]() |
![]() Do you think the energy of early punk drew inspiration from various liberation movements (gay, women, etc.), or was it just a conservative kneejerk reaction? Or a little of both? |
![]() |
![]() I was gonna ask you to play Free Fall! |
![]() |
![]() "Midnight Vulture" might just be the best song ever (at the moment, at least). |
![]() |
![]() Do you think heavy music is an intrisically masculine artform in both the good and bad sense of the word? |
![]() |
![]() efd, that honor would go to Meriola Blues, I think. |
![]() |
![]() Drew, what inspired you to make this movie? How much of it have you shot? |
![]() |
![]() Who, Who ... Who, Who is this> |
![]() |
![]() Free Fall, their new album is banging. |
![]() |
![]() Free Fall, who sounds like Who, contains members of the Soundtrack of Our Lives, who sounded exactly like the Who. |
![]() |
![]() hahahahahahah they slipped in some Stones, though. |
![]() |
![]() What everyone said about Free Fall |
![]() |
![]() @cheri yeah I'm actually chained to my desk today well for a little while any way :) |
![]() |
![]() I'm chained to my desk too, through these earbuds administering rock to me like an IV drip. |
![]() |
![]() I still get all verklempt when I think that Lux is no longer on this plane of existence. |
![]() |
![]() @cecile I actually find it interesting that when you can find women at least in the vocal area who are willing to venture into the heavy music area they can actually sometimes bring an entire level of aggression that many male performers can not. I'm not really sure what it is maybe it is purely the science of the style of music mixed with a vocal range that many men can not attain. |
![]() |
![]() I love happy accidents. |
![]() |
![]() preparing my response now then. |
![]() |
![]() also, you cannot discount the "shock value". It shouldn't be surprising by now, but it still is. |

Sean D. Daily:
Arrr, it be Talk Like A Pirate Day, ye scurvy sea dogs! Play some pirate metal, or it's Davy Jones' Locker for ye! |
![]() |
![]() you could play some Pirates, matey. They put out some scorching albums. |
![]() |
![]() And, speaking of lovely female vocalists... |
![]() |
![]() She has some chops there. |
![]() |
![]() This Royal Thunder track is beautiful |
![]() |
Thu. 9/19/13 12:44pm
Sean D. Daily:
@coe: The answer could be that women have to put up with a whole raft of problems that men don't, and screaming into a mike is a way to get some of that frustration out. That, and men are honestly effen scared of women who can do metal justice (at least I am). Put those two together... My two cents. |
![]() |
![]() Lash that dog to the yardarm (Rips shirt in a clichéd manner) ....been waiting say this all day. |
![]() |
![]() @cecile yeah it is a shame. The sad part is I think it makes many women fight a lot harder to prove how damn good they really are so it's an unfortunate driving factor mixed with a double edged sword. |
![]() |
![]() yup. You know it. |
![]() |
![]() awesome, Diane. She trots out some killer female lead singers for us. |
![]() |
![]() Yeah, cheers to that Diane! |
![]() |
![]() And, you know how much I love GOLD. |
![]() |
![]() Yeah, coe, I kind of feel like I stalled out as a rock writer because: 1) I was as good as a good guy writer, but didn't emphasize the fact I was female. 2) I worked full-time at another job. 3) I wrote mostly about "dude" music - metal, jazz, hard rock. 4) As I was married, I was unavailable for either physical or emotional affairs. 5) I was over age 24 and looked like a Bernese Mountain Dog with glasses. 6) I have serious ADD, and a lot of the music scene was starting to bore the crap out of me. I pretty much got sick of it, and I'd rather be doing art now anyway. |
![]() |
![]() Beggars! |
![]() |
![]() also, 7) I wasn't in a cool band. |
![]() |
![]() I loved writing for NPR because they just didn't care about any of these things, but their daily review thing is being revamped. |
![]() |
![]() Batillus! |

Sean D. Daily:
Thanks for not calling me a male chauvinist pig or a dumbass, BTW. |
![]() |
![]() Some male singers scare the crap out of me. *shrugs* |
![]() |
![]() Luna, the bands I wrote about were great. Some of them are still good friends. That was the part I enjoyed about it. |
![]() |
![]() I also had the honor, and I mean honor, of writing about Paul Metzger and Michael Yonkers. That made everything worth it. |
![]() |
![]() and to be honest, maybe three or four of the people who were writing at the same time I was are still writing about music and making a go of it. |
![]() |
![]() It's hard for everyone. It's just less hard for some people. |
![]() |
![]() how exciting!!! |
![]() |
![]() you answered it great! |

Dean:
Heard Metallica at the Whisky, Sunset Strip. Had never heard of them. They were opening for somebody... Had the same response as Michael. They were the hardest working teenage (so I thought) rockers I'd heard in a long time...and this was post-punk scene L.A., which was beautiful and brutal.
![]() |
![]() Dean, awesome. And Metallica can still bring it live. |
![]() |
![]() NICE! |
Thu. 9/19/13 1:19pm
Dean:
Well, whaddya know? This was very likely the show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffR4fvBdLyY Yes, Saxon. They opened for Saxon, who weren't half bad, either!
![]() |
![]() Brave Words for Bloody Knuckles? |
![]() |
![]() REO Speedealer |
![]() |
![]() so no cinder block for Metallica or Slayer. |
![]() |
![]() would it be egadeth-may? |
![]() |
![]() Oh to be 14 and perched in front of the Pepsi Power Hour again |
![]() |
![]() YEAH!!!!!!!!!!! |
![]() |
![]() bang the head that doesn't bang! |
![]() |
![]() I think we all know my feelings about that is DM should be beaten with LU. |
![]() |
![]() @Cecile you know you always could throw a band together still. |
![]() |
![]() DK what is the working title. I know you can't say it on the air :) ? |
![]() |
![]() Never mind LOL |
![]() |
![]() www.kickstarter.com... |
![]() |
![]() hahaha coe. Nah, I think the whole band train has sailed. |
![]() |
![]() Oh this I want to hear. Didn't you have to go out and find a drummer too right before the show? |
![]() |
![]() love flowers of romance...is this when they didn't play? |
![]() |
![]() Vito The Butcher!!!!!! |

Ginger Baker on Album, speakin a drummers
![]() |
![]() If people could actually listen to the American Psycho and Famous Monster albums without prejudiced they would see how amazing of a performer Graves was. Almost all of my favorite songs from those albums were written by Graves. |
![]() |
![]() Newsted worked with Speedealer too. May have even played with them for a little. Love this band. |
