Swag For Life Member 3:19pm phat:

I really dug that "Hey Hey My My" by Devo, with Neil Young. I need to see Human Highway.
Avatar 3:21pm Whosondephone:

WTF did you just do there??? WOW!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Scott Williams:

Human Highway is great! I avoided it for years, assuming it was another Journey to the whatever, but it's really more like Forbidden Zone or Cafe Flesh.
Avatar 3:22pm Eyepatch Fox:

Nice filthy monkey, Wretch!
Avatar 3:23pm Chris from DC:

Has this Die Gesunden been reissued? Great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Mike East:

good call, Lila. Can't go wrong with Upsetters.

Thanks, Eyepatch! It plans....

Many of us never get far past the poop songs.
Avatar 3:49pm Mike VL:

Get Lila some fill-ins! Ken??

@whiteslice, that's a Mothers of Invention snippet from Uncle Meat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Carmichael:

How did you see Human Highway, Scott? I can't find it in the places of popularity.

Avatar 3:57pm Cecile:

I missed the badfoot brown track. That's a pretty great record. Bill could have made a nice career doing jazz records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Carmichael:

A future Amanda?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm DCE:

time-out time, SW!
Avatar 3:58pm Cecile:

Lila, your dad's work is cool. I used to have to babysit lab equipment while sediment precipitated and stuff. Boooooring.
  3:59pm Priceless:

I vote to give the one minute prior to Scott Williams' excellent show to his charming child Lila. She at least rates as an on-air personality, whereas Price seems to merit on-air time without the benefit of a personality.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Carmichael:

I babysit my staff. Even more boring, and you can't legally spank them.
Avatar 4:00pm Kurt Gottschalk:

watch it, shatner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Greg from Bloomfield:

I have now watched that Neil & Devo video like 11 times. PS, this song is also this song: www.youtube.com...
Avatar 4:01pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

...whereas I'd happily do another Mouse of Today pledge just for a box set of Jim Price one-minute lovelies...
  4:02pm Robert:

Is this Lila's 1st on-mike since her meltdown some years ago? Taking bets on another? Or do we consider her already to have done so by her numerous interjections at the last break?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Scott Williams:

Robert, you show your face here only when she bugs you, and every time she bugs you. You bug me. Get lost.
Avatar 4:08pm Cecile:

Ugh. trying to match some other folks' artwork. Some people should not be allowed to make vector paths. That's all I'ma saying.
Avatar 4:09pm Chris from DC:

Never heard the Cosby record before. Pretty cool.
Avatar 4:09pm Cecile:

and this is as cool, singular and modern as I remembered it. It's almost like Blue Note meets motorik.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm DCE:

there's the stern papa-bear! good for you, Scott. And hell yeah, this Cosby record is awesome!
Avatar 4:09pm Whosondephone:

I can't sit around buying cds and records all day. You are going to have to stop playing good music. I have to start saving for the stealth fundraiser.
Avatar 4:11pm Cecile:

hahahaha, ita.
Avatar 4:12pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

So much crucial scheise was recorded and/or released in 1971. It remains the greatest year in human-made sounds.
  4:13pm Robert:

Sorry, didn't know you were that way about it. But I do listen to you a lot, and the rest of the time, it's all good. I just find it funny when a parent makes himself vulnerable like this. I wasn't trying to be mean.
Avatar 4:14pm Cecile:

I have to say it was a a pretty good year. I am also partial to '78, '84 and 2003 for some reason.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Greg from Bloomfield:

Vector paths are like Othello, Cecile: Minute to learn, lifetime to master.
Avatar 4:15pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 4:15pm Cecile:

I am learning this the hard way. Fortunately, I have my copy of Vector Boot Camp nearby.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Carmichael:

Anywhere from 71 to 78 was a great era. 75-76 was my favorite.
Avatar 4:17pm doca:

@Cecile: what's in 2003?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Carmichael:

"Vector Paths"?? Are you doing Stephen Hawking alchemy, Cece?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm DCE:

I'm a 67-72'er meself

When I'm coaching PeeWee football, I do get a chuckle when the other coach's kids mess up, and vice versa, but we're all friends when the game is over.

Deliverance - Bubba Sparxxx
One of the greatest albums in the history of everyting.
Avatar 4:19pm Cheri Pi:

Thank you for putting these sounds in my brain SW.
Avatar 4:19pm Cecile:

No, Adobe Illustrator.
Avatar 4:21pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Been in the design gig since about 1991 and avoided Illustrator (and whatever it was called back then) like the plague this whole time. Love photoshop like mad, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Carmichael:

Aha, thx. Sounded completely foreign, because it is.
Avatar 4:21pm doca:

gotcha, Cecile
Avatar 4:22pm Cecile:

the Outkast rexcors with the great Big Boi record, and the hilarious Andre comedy album.
Deep Dish's Toronto and Toronto Afterclub.
Avatar 4:22pm Mr. Lowry:

Thank you for the Bill Cosby/Badfoot Brown tune. I'd heard it before but I thought I dreamt it.
Avatar 4:22pm cd tap:

Photoshop, all the way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Carmichael:

Bubba Hotep was another great movie. In fact, anything with Bubba in the title would be great.
Avatar 4:23pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

  4:23pm Robert:

And there'll be plenty to laugh at with us this season, as they're giving us only 4 practice sessions before game 1!
Avatar 4:23pm Cecile:

OH!!!!!!! this Norman Salant record is great. Haven't heard it in almost 30 yrs
Avatar 4:23pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

[re: harmonia]
Avatar 4:24pm doca:

@scott, this set is a killer.
@Cecile: unfortunately i'm not that into hip hop, but i'm starting to make a sense out of 2003.
Avatar 4:24pm Cecile:

Carm, that Bubba album is both his and Timbaland's finest work. it is a great album. Shoulda done a lot better than it did.
Avatar 4:24pm Cheri Pi:

I like vectors better I have to say. Vectors win!
Avatar 4:25pm doca:

@Carmichael: I love the bathroom hyerogliphs from that movie!
  4:25pm Robert:

I might not have seen "Bubba Hotep" had not Tom Scharpling interviewed Bruce Campbell beforehand. I hardly ever listen to T. Scharpling's show, but I did to hear Bruce Campbell, and that's what alerted me to that movie.
Avatar 4:26pm Cecile:

I like vectors just fine. I use em all the time in PS, but Illustrator is uniquely weird.

I got a plug-in for home that has been helping me. Unfortunately...
Avatar 4:26pm Cecile:

that's a goofy-ass movie, but it is a surprisingly moving meditation on old age.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Matt from Springfield:

Oooof, if ever there was a day for beersies, this is one. Maybe even a start with whiskies. Or rather, whisk(e)ysies.

Hey Scott! Hey everyone! So glad to be home from work!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Greg from Bloomfield:

Jay-Z's Black Album and Ted Leo's Hearts Of Oak. 2003, FTW.
  4:27pm Lou:

this track reminds me of Home
Avatar 4:28pm Cecile:

this is a great song. The only one I like from Pink.
Avatar 4:29pm Cecile:

There is a remix that really sharpens up this thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Scott Williams:

I actually really like her new one - forget what it's called, kinda a ballad
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Scott Williams:

"give me just a reason"?
Avatar 4:29pm northguineahills:

So, glad I took today off of work. Just got back from Vegas last night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Matt from Springfield:

Oh, Lila's in da haus today. Sweet!
Has Pink done a hardcore No Wave phase yet? I would be intrigued to listen to that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Parq:

If the Lady Li digs that Pink, maybe she'd also go for late-period B52s. Worth a try.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Matt from Springfield:

Lila does know that that Pink song is probably older than her, doesn't she? :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Joe Duffy:

The thing about P!nk is, she really IS mizundaztood
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Matt from Springfield:

@Parq: I didn't get so much B-52s as a youngster (aside from "Love Shack" and the Flintstones movie band), but pretty much any of their stuff would be fun for kids: quirky, high energy, danceable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Matt from Springfield:

@Joe D: So her soul's intentions really *are* good then?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Carmichael:

Quiche Lorraine is my favorite B52s song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Matt from Springfield:

I'll take a listen to that, Carm.
In retrospect I would prob say "Song for the New Generation" is my fave, a great parody of the then-nascent video dating scene. But I'd have to think about faves a little longer.
Avatar 4:37pm Cheri Pi:

OMG this RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar 4:37pm Chris from DC:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Matt from Springfield:

Kurt Gottschalk! You were in my dream last week. Very strange.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Carmichael:

Avatar 4:48pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar 4:48pm Fernando M Pacheco:

Did Scott say something about Finis Africae being from Spain? They are from Brasilia, Brazil.
Avatar 4:50pm Kurt Gottschalk:

Avatar 4:50pm Fernando M Pacheco:

ok, maybe there are two bands with the same name...
Avatar 4:50pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

ok there's that Kate earworm again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Matt from Springfield:

Lila's always so presh on this show, even when not cooperative!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Matt from Springfield:

@RTD: Kate B? Which one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm BDR:

Kate Bush, "Sat in you Lap" same drummage..
Avatar 4:51pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

"sat in your lap" from The Dreaming.
...the drum loop just there.
Avatar 4:53pm DJ Stashu:

He speeks!
Avatar 4:53pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

That entire LP is in my bloodstream from obsessing over it when it came out (and me, 15 years old at the time & sponge for a brain).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm DCE:

those kinds of records you spent memorizing in your teens, those are the ones that can still make you cry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Matt from Springfield:

The Dreaming is a weirder album, perhaps if I listened to it all in one go I could find things on so many levels.

And you're in great company, Rev: DJ Julie's fave Kate album is actually The Dreaming too!
Avatar 4:56pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

True, DCE. In my case it's a weird mix, from that Kate B. record to TG's third annual report & the 2nd Hawkwind LP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: The White Album! VU & Nico! ♥♥♥!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Carmichael:

Give her a Jolt Cola, Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm DCE:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Matt from Springfield:

Speaking o' Kebekelektrik: I kept getting thrawted in my attempts to buy a CD or digital tracks of that album (CD seems to be out of print). But I got that itch scratched recently when I found Kebekelektrik's been added to iTunes!:

Better still, I found that the week I got my FMU swag! So been spaced out listening to music a lot lately...
Avatar 4:59pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

...oh, and Cluster 71 & ELO's "time," which is a pretty screwy mess of bedfellows right there. No wonder I had no friends in high school.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: Do they still distribute Jolt, or did they castrate the original formula like Four Loko?
Avatar 4:59pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

  5:01pm tahomajohn:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Matt from Springfield:

Particularly dig the NY area kids' accents on this track.
Avatar 5:02pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

w/the Haters! HAHAHAAA! Love it. What's the question again, MfS?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Matt from Springfield:

@RTD: Where/what is god, in the Turnip Druid's theology?
Avatar 5:04pm Chris from DC:

This kid singing to the Haters is sublime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Matt from Springfield:

"You don't hafta pay taxes or anything"!!!?!! No wonder the Tea Party types are so destructive and religious!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Carmichael:

I'm looking at a contract while I'm listening. The company salesperson's name is: SCOTT WILLIAMS! Freaky ...

@Carm: I first discovered Lagunitas (and Widmer, AAMOF) while purchasing indiv bottles for a beer tasting I went to a few years ago. I decide to go with West Coast microbrews--GREAT decision!

Sometimes Scott brings his daughter Lila to his show, and her appearances are always...something else!

Avatar 5:45pm Mr. Lowry:

"...whips out the UFO." Hehehe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Carmichael:

@Matt: I'm about 90 miles from the Lagunitas brewery. There's a veritable plethora of their beer around here.

@Scott: Keep on a'rockin' me, baby. Baby Baby Baby!!!
  5:46pm andie:

Hey Scott, re: your band name dream, I had a dream 2 nights ago that I was in a van with Andy Warhol , he was driving, and he told me what to name the record I'm working on. And theme crashed and his head fell off....
Avatar 5:47pm Mr. Lowry:

I hate it when that happens.
Avatar 5:48pm cd tap:

damn--Ain't never heard this Red Crayola before. Dig.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Matt from Springfield:

That's disturbing, andie [Warhol]!

@Carm: Northern California, where the beers aren't warm! So I can hear my sweet baby say:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Stanley:

@Carmichael - we have Lagunitas IPA available at my local off-licence (liquor store) here in Edinburgh. Just wanted to share this as it is one of my very favourites!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Carmichael:

@Matt: have you tried Lil Sumpin? I believe Lagunitas double hops it. It's brown and sweet, and will kill most strong men.
Avatar 5:51pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Discovered the Lagunitas HAIRY EYEBALL on tap at a local here a few years ago, haven't seen it since. Was a nice specimen, despite it being a sweet winter ale.
Avatar 5:51pm northguineahills:

Ok, off to either the Apple Store or Best Buy to see what I can get done to my phone. Fell in some water, it's been sitting in dry rice the last few days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: Will try! I've had their Censored! beer before, and all their regular line. Next trip to Total Wine I'll zero in on Lil Sumpin in the beer aisle. The Hairy Eyeball and any other specials too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Carmichael:

@Stanley: in Scotland? Amazing! They have a world wide presence!

Within about a 100 mile radius, there are Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas, Russian River and Mendocino brewing companies. Thankfully, its 100F outside now. One leads to the other.

5:55pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Hello Scott and friends. I am tuning in on my last full day of having any kind of real presence in New Jersey after several decades. Been tuning in as much as possible today, and I am glad you could all be part of this momentous, if sad, occasion in my life.
