Started my morning with several full LP spins including Sun City Girl's Horse Cock Phephner and Virgin Insanity's "illusions of the maintenance man". I drank lots of coffee. Now, here I am.

Too bad NONE of the tracks are radio friendly (off the top of my head) -- great stuff so far, especially this Gunter Maas.

EGON BONDEEEE! ... g'afternoon all. This LP is the cornerstone of all that's holy. One of a few such cornerstones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Scott Williams:

@adam, I think we can pull it off somewhere, sure! tho I do already have Paris 1942 pulled, would that count?
Avatar 3:48pm Cecile:

the dan!
3:48pm kirk from beer city usa:

thanks for playing steely dan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Carmichael:

Hiya Scotty, hey everyones. Thought I tuned into 98 Rock for a minute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm fred:

@RTD: We window shard sweepers may have to unionize if you get back to these entrances. Are you on a Zoyd Wheeler kind of deal? We could get overtime pay from the DEA then...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Ike:

Hmm. Supremely tacky, but not as terrible as I would've expected.
Avatar 3:52pm adam_nspy:

@scott absolutely that would count
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm thedunkel:

Yeah Scott!
Avatar 3:54pm Cecile:

Fagen and Becker are some of the most misanthropic people in music.
  3:54pm common:

love me some steely dan!
Avatar 3:54pm Cecile:

And all their songs are about booze, jailbait and cocaine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Andrew Waterloo:

Phish is way more offensive than Steely Dan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Carmichael:

They talk about their monkey wrench hijinks with Jay and the Americans with absolute glee.
Avatar 3:56pm northguineahills:

Can't move my mouse. My hand is cramped like a claw after all of the clicky stars (yet I can type).
Avatar 3:57pm Cecile:

At any rate, I never turn to Donald Fagen for his warm and fuzzy life-affirming thoughts on the human race.
Avatar 3:59pm northguineahills:

Yes, It was awesome to hear Lou! Next time I'll shout w/ capital letters!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Planet Tyler:

Nikki and Epic 4 Evah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm fred:

@Cecile: Anyone who'd spew warm and fuzzy thoughts on the human race to my face would probably be trying to sell me something. Fagen might be too, but he's not pressing the issue
Avatar 4:05pm Cecile:

No, fred, i think he truly doesn't like people all that much.
Avatar 4:05pm kirk from beer city usa:

how can "space" sound like "nasty"?
Avatar 4:05pm Marshall Stacks:

Steely Dan is (was?) one of the most subversive bands ever, starting with their name.
And those lyrics in Top 40 pop? Fantastic.
Avatar 4:06pm Cecile:

I also laughed out loud when Fagen grumbled about Bob Dylan in that interview.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm fred:

(I don't like Steely Dan, but came to have a grudging respect for them, in part for the attitude)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm fred:

@Cecile: I did too. He kinda has a point, not a fair one maybe but it was a nice shot
Avatar 4:09pm Cecile:

one of the funniest Dan-related bits I ever saw was when Clemmie (the especially promiscuous female cop) got fired from her job on a Reno 911! episode and dedicates all her time to being a Steely Dan groupie.
Avatar 4:10pm Cecile:

"The Dan are my life!"
Avatar 4:11pm northguineahills:

Elodie Lauten. Hurrazah!
Avatar 4:14pm Monica:

scott, lovely sounds today. that herman's rocket track bears an uncanny resemblance to Belle Epoque's disco hit "Miss Broadway." (1977, France). Gotta send it to you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Scott Williams:

Mo! Thanks a bunch - yes, please send, would love to hear it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm tim from champaign:

@ Cecile - Did you post something recently about the book "What Are You Doing Here" by Lana Dawes?
Avatar 4:18pm Cecile:

nope, tim
Avatar 4:19pm Cecile:

Here's the exact quote from Clemmie. It's funnier that I remembered:

"I'm out of jail, and I'm living my dream. You know what I realized? I'm not meant to be a cop. I am not meant to be a magician's assistant. I was not meant to go to college. I was not meant to donate blood. I am a Babylon Sister, and I was meant to shake it with Steely Dan, motherfuckers! Whoo! Owh, owh, owh!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm tim from champaign:

Thanks, Cecile. I must have been thinking of something else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm tim from champaign:

This Friday evening I'm DJing at an art gallery for the opening reception of a bicycle print exhibition. Sooooo....I'm looking for bicycle related songs. Any suggestions/ideas?
Avatar 4:23pm Cecile:

My White Bicycle - Tomorrow
War of the Superbikes - the Meatmen
Daisy, Daisy
Avatar 4:24pm Cecile:

and congrats, tim!
Avatar 4:24pm northguineahills:

I have to miss work tomorrow to go to court b/c on July 4th, my friend's rooftop bbq was broken up by the fuzz. me, and 4 other lads, were handcuffed and stopped and frisked (they looked to see if we had warrants). They claim landlords need to have a rooftop access permit, so we were trespassing (out of the 70+ on the roof). It's only $75, but my summons is illegible since it was a carbon copy. I've gone into the court database, and my name is nowhere to be found. The court info office won't pick up or answer my voice mails. I just wish I could pay the fines and get this out of my hair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Scott Williams:

Tim, there's one by Andy Partridge's Dukes of Stratosphere, I can't remember the name but it's great
Avatar 4:25pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Tim: kind of a stretch, but my first thought was "the broken wheel" from COIL (from the 'gold is the metal with the broadest shoulders' compilation, i think)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm tim from champaign:

Man, that sucks NGH. What a hassle.
Avatar 4:25pm adam_nspy:

@Tim, you should play some Desperate Bicycles. And then try and fit in Kath Bloom and Loren Connor's "Bicycle"
Avatar 4:26pm Cecile:

Bike Ride to the Moon, Scott.
Avatar 4:26pm Cecile:

yeah, and what adam said. Maybe you can get out of the ticket.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Scott Williams:

yep that's the one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm chris:

Was just listening to an archived Dance with me, Stanley, when I realized SW was on... tuned in and hear DJ Stashu.. wow..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Ike:

NGH, I'm clueless about these things, but if your name isn't in the court database, how they can get you for ignoring it? And did you check all possible misspellings of your name?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm chris:

And another reason every family needs an attorney, NGH. That is effed up.
Avatar 4:28pm northguineahills:

Man, Trunk recs is always so much fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm tim from champaign:

Oh yeah, this is good stuff! Thanks folks!
Avatar 4:29pm Cecile:

I love Dance with Me. It completely commits to its loony dance-pop vibe.
Avatar 4:30pm Cecile:

we sang bobby shaftoe when we were kids!
Avatar 4:31pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

That Dukes of Stratosphear thing is a great one.
Avatar 4:31pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

...likewise that Fabio premium this year, the ghosty one. Brilliant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm chris:

has everyone gotten their swag but me? dang!
Avatar 4:33pm northguineahills:

Coming October, I'm upping my pledge after I pay off my debts, now I'm finally employed. Can I still get dj premiums?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Ike:

Also, NGH, if the cops didn't seize all your cash, grill, and valuables, then you're doing better than a lot of people out there who have had their stuff straight-up legally STOLEN by police due to this horrifying shit called "civil asset forfeiture": www.newyorker.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Scott Williams:

Chris, email me offlist & I'll look into it... fyi, we still have a few tubs of stuff going out later this week
Avatar 4:34pm Cecile:

I got mine in June. I was shocked and pleased.
  4:35pm mg:

Ahhhh. This is what Pulp samples in Acrylic Afternoons!
  4:35pm Dave in PA:

my head a splode
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Mike East:

@Ike I was just reading that...horrifying is the best word for it, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Carmichael:

Speaking of All American Boy, I just re-discovered the brilliant album of that name by Rick Derringer. I was a teenager again for about an hour.
Avatar 4:37pm northguineahills:

I've read and have friends that have stuff ripped off by the fuzz. I work w/ a few retired coppers (nice gentlemen, they are), and their only explanation is my friend's new condo landlord wasn't happy w/ the Independence day festivities, even though it was crazier on other rooftops in said hood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm chris:

I think you're at the top of everyone's list Cecile! I'm envious.
Avatar 4:38pm northguineahills:

Damn, I never get tired of Scott playing Wicker Man sntrk.
Avatar 4:40pm Cecile:

I've had to wait until August in the past, so this was a very nice surprise for me, Chris.
Avatar 4:40pm northguineahills:

I sang the 'The Grand 'ole Duke of York when I was in cub scouts.
  4:42pm Jon:

Wow been away from the sw for some years. Stumbled back and wow so glad. Hi Scott from sunny London and thanks. Remember babies born.
Avatar 4:48pm northguineahills:

err..., what's this drone? It's nice. I've been on an Eleh kick lately.
Avatar 4:49pm Chris from DC:

This is really nice to zone out to. Is it still Celer?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Scott Williams:

@ngh, this is still Celer. @Jon, welcome back! which babies now?
Avatar 4:50pm kirk from beer city usa:

hi tim. obviously, this is on your playlist already: theme to "breaking away" by balance.
Avatar 4:57pm glenn:

bike - pink floyd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm tim from champaign:

Hold up! kirk from beer city usa? You're cat looks like he should be named after a dictator. Anyway, the Breaking Away theme was not on my list. Thanks for the tip.

PS Are you going to UFO Dictator this year? I'm DJing Saturday night.
Avatar 4:59pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm tim from champaign:

@kirk - PK's going to be around? Sweet! That'd be cool to see you and Mrs Beer City USA. I should be up to beer city to see my folks sometime in October. I'll keep you posted.
Avatar 5:09pm northguineahills:

Leyland Kirby is just another alias.

Elodie Lauten played a nice set at Share, o.blaat's shindig in 2006. (If memory serves).
Avatar 5:13pm Chris from DC:

Ah, thianks NGH. Only ever known him as Leyland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm Carmichael:

OK, now this is mind bending. Clicky Star for the Greek Guy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Carmichael:

Swamp Dogg has always been this cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm tim from champaign:

I think there's a lesson to be learned from this song.
Avatar 5:31pm northguineahills:

I think he goes by Leyland, but his birth name is James.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Carmichael:

One of his finest songs. Also, I Aint Sellin Out, I'm Buyin In is a thing of wonder.
  5:33pm BZ:

Black Pearl, yes! Takes me back to when I first started listening to this great show.
  5:34pm msInfo:

Oh, yeah, Tim? What would that lesson be?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Scott Williams:

thanks BZ! is this my old pal BZ?

Avatar 5:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...yeah - 'Bike' - last song on Floyd's 1st 'Piper @ Gates of Dawn' - which album must be mentioned every week
...after which 'Bike Ride to the Moon' must be partly fashioned (~Dukes Forever!!~)...
Avatar 5:44pm Cecile:

@tim, yeah that's an episode of Deadly Affairs waiting to happen.

Scott, I call this their Rotary Connection song. It's so cool.

Avatar 5:46pm northguineahills:

I love the gif of Nick Offerman dancing to this daft punk song.
Avatar 5:47pm Jeff:

Ha! You got sucked into the mainstream for a song! (and have the courage to just stand up and own it)
Avatar 5:47pm Cecile:

What I like about this song is that it's like CHic - standard rock band instrumentation but a completely diff result.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Matt from Springfield:

Hoverboard disco song, even. Why can't our recreation technology catch up with the quality of dance music?

@RRN63: Sesame Street went *all* disco briefly in '79. Interesting YT clips of those moments.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm efd:

@RRN63 if that's your fear then I advise you not to tune in to my show on Aug. 28th.
Avatar 5:48pm Cecile:

I miss a halfway decent song being a lightning rod for everyone. You know like Atomic Dog. Or Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)

Avatar 5:55pm Cecile:

Feeling this Kode 9 bigtime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Matt from Springfield:

I think I deduced my prob listening live @work--I'm thinking they just don't allocate enough bandwidth for web streaming. YT plays, Archive Pop-Up (64k) plays, live Pop-Up (128k) doesn't. Unless we get a 32k Pop-Up, or I keep emailing fragments of programs to my work box in hopes of getting the 32k pls. Anyways, I might be back on live this week (fingers crossed!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm efd:
