Hiya, Monica. Love to be able to move like that.

This is a good Sunday: Yankee game honoring Hideki Matsui's career with the team and then a dramatic win in the bottom of the 9th at the Stadium -- and then a ride home from friends and now Mrs. Yankfan & I listen to Monica on WFMU. Later on: Dexter & Ray Donovan. A very good Sunday!

..saw a pretty long show on PBS about Elvis & Gospel
- made me think : as pilled up & fat as Elvis ever got - he never had to fake Soul!
Avatar 7:10pm
deanland:

@doca -- Baseball is math, strategy, athleticism, planning and luck. And a healthy dose of hope. Sorta like life.

Hi Mo! This song is so good!

i don't know why all elvis impersonators always imitate him while he was fat...although it should be very difficult to imitate him thin and healthy and groovy

Listening to the keyboard intros to both versions of "I Believe...", I keep expecting Randy Newman's "Yellow Man" to start playing.
Avatar 7:20pm
deanland:

@doca -- off the top of my head no site comes to mind. There are lots of politics and perceptions, and the comments on many sites (like ESPN or team fansites) are often dominated by the brain dead. Better to have someone introduce the game to you. Go to a game, even a minor league game with someone who appreciates and can share the fine points with you.

Avatar 7:25pm

Once again, a Willie Mitchell production evident from the first note. Amazingly beautiful.
Avatar 7:26pm
deanland:

@doca: the movies Field of Dreams, 8 Men Out, and Bull Durham actually will give you a sense of the soul of the game. Then watch The Natural, which uses baseball as a metaphor for life and hope in many ways. Re both Field of Dreams and The Natural, the books are far better than the very good movies.

Avatar 7:43pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Elvis was the survivor of a pair of twins: is said there is a particular psychology to that
- he may have had a sense of guilt & duty & drive - had the 'energy of two' - had a 'double-identity'...
- One does have to see such early footage to realize/remember why Elvis was a revelation & changerd the world. In one, he does his thang all across the stage, & ends it w/ just wiggling his thumb: I thot - @ that stage, he had more 'chi' (Chinese word for LifeForce) in that thumb then than I shall ever have overall...
Avatar 7:44pm

It also seems that it would be a very scratchy record.

If I had one of those records made it certainly wouldn't be virgin vinyl!

nudge-nudge.

Because, you know, I'm trying to imply that I've had lots of S-E-X.

You know, with actual ladies.

Oh, never mind. Maybe it wasn't a good joke.
Avatar 7:52pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I meants: ...why Elvis was a revOlUtion & changed the world...

...seems one should be on that vinyl oneself - talent (or no) aside - !!
- Really - I want a Green Burial. I saw a thing on TV where a machine vibrates you (??) into components & turns you into this large (feet across) sort of fertilizer tablet! That's exactly what I want! Give nutrients back to MotherEarth - ideally a native fruit tree! People could ingest my nutrients! How weird would that be?...The record sounds Kewl tho'...
Avatar 7:53pm

...due to the nature of vinyl record-playing, every time it would be played, the grooves would degrade (unless read by laser & computer) - & very tiny bits of your ashes would be released into that room...my understanding (actually, from Patti Smith 'Dream of Life' doc when she speaks of Mapplethorpe's remains) is cremation remains are called 'ashes', but include lumpy bits of bone / grain (??)...

- embalming is completely strange!! I appreciate the ritual & emotional value for some - but being done up w/ wax to appear still alive - ?? Weird!
- cremation helps w/ the space problem, but just adds to GlobalWarming (!)
- Maracas! Hmm. Very Voudon...One guy arranged for his ashes to be in - a coffin prop I think? - onstage w/ TheCramps...
- More crazy Les! Such an innovator - but great Tunes too!

...the SummerSolstice in SantyBabylon would be considered more 'of the people' (depending who your 'people' are) - & I loved the 'Italian' Chalk Painting @ the Mission in May...but give it to S.B. to have all of those...nice Coast if you can afford it (note I ain't there no more)...
