Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

This episode is mostly live in the studio stuff with Fabio. I had little prepared, so Fabio was kind enough to sit in. Summer usually means shows like this somehow. Taking it easy, to a degree.

Hey La! Hey Hello Ah!
Hi there Clay and Pigeonnaires!
  6:04pm Tommy T:

Try tap dancing to this one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Matt from Springfield:

I don't know why, Fab says goodbye you say hello...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Matt from Springfield:

It's a SUPERPAUL song!!
(The sunshine pop hit A-side placed on the single to balance out the B-side "I Am The Walrus")
  6:05pm John:

Paul's song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Matt from Springfield:

My "quick answer" to fave Beatles song is "Because".
Avatar 6:06pm Night Al:

I was listening to Paul & The Wings earlier today ... Man We Was Lonely, Another Day, Every Night, Let Em In, then Mr Kite, Walrus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Carmichael:

In the Rutles *bio*, Lennon's character was called Ron Nasty.
Avatar 6:08pm northguineahills:

I agree w/ Fabio's assessment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Matt from Springfield:

"You li'l twat!"
"Piss off!"
"The wee bugger wants a kiss, does 'e!"
"Give us a kiss, love!"

Maybe not *quite* like that...but people aren't always what they seem, 'specially not when drunk...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: Dirk McQuigley!
(becoming a Johnny Rotten imitator by the time of filming...)
  6:09pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

that Mary Jane piece is devastating.
Avatar 6:09pm Night Al:

John was raised by an auntie, he had the roughest childhood probably of all the Beatles.
Avatar 6:10pm northguineahills:

The George track on the Yellow Submarine was "Only a Northern Song".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Matt from Springfield:

Speaking of "Another Day", there are AT LEAST 3 songs from the '70s titled "Another Day". All of them great!

Paul & Linda's well-known "Another Day" (upbeat tune with depressing undertone), The Rutles "Another Day" (their "Martha My Dear" takeoff), and of course Roy Harper's excellent portrait of a fractured marriage (listen to Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush's version!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Carmichael:

Listen to the National Lampoon's send-up of Lennon called Genius is Pain. They could never play it on FMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Matt from Springfield:

@NGH: AND "It's All Too Much". 6 original songs on one side, and 2 were George's. Not his bestest works, but what a George density!
Avatar 6:12pm Night Al:

I always respected Eddy Rabbit and his songwriting/performing. Died way too early.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Carmichael:

"You're so pusillanimous, oh yeah ..."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: I'll have to look for that. (There's always the WEB streams! ;)

The Rutles "Cheese and Onions" was originally performed by Neil Innes on SNL before the movie was made, as an early solo Lennon parody.
  6:13pm Marmalade Kitty:

Good call, clay! I hadn't listened to Beatles for a long time, but tonight I played in this order: "She said.. tomorrow never knows & Hello goobye" Coincidentaly.. o.O
  6:13pm don:

check out 'tomorrow never knows' by morgana king on the album 'i know how it feels to be lonely'...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Matt from Springfield:

I agree Night Al, big shame.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: Wow! Do you remember those lyrics offhand?! :D
Avatar 6:14pm sFrances from VA:

hello all~! been listening, just logged on.
Avatar 6:15pm sFrances from VA:

when i was in jr high in the mid 1970s, I used to carry Lennon's bio "One Day at a Time" with me to school every day. it was my security blanket. i heart yoko too. still.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi Kitty!
And hey Frances!
  6:16pm Marmalade Kitty:

Hi Matt, Frances & all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Carmichael:

I am a Rutles OCD headcase uber-fanatic. I also have their release Archeology, released just after the Beatles Anthology.
Avatar 6:17pm sFrances from VA:

I'll talk Elvis any day! And yes, been to Graceland.
Avatar 6:17pm northguineahills:

What about Paul McCartney and Nirvana?
Avatar 6:18pm sFrances from VA:

Hey Ms Kitty!!! Hey Matt! Carm, Al, NGH,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Andrew Waterloo:

Elvis is just so Middle America
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Carmichael:

Hiya Frances. I have also stood at the foot of Elvis' grave.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm Matt from Springfield:

My parents went to Graceland a few years after it was opened to the public. If I'm ever in the area I want to see it too!

@NGH: Wingsvana is a sleeping giant, I tell's ya!
Avatar 6:19pm Night Al:

I love Bob Welch's song Hypnotized.
Avatar 6:20pm Night Al:

Alice Cooper aka Vincent Furnier was the son of a preacher man...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Matt from Springfield:

Kirwan and Welch, a good bridging period between the Peter Green and Buckingham/Nicks eras.

@Night Al: Me too! I love a lot of Bob Welch's songs. Real shocking tragedy about his suicide, unexpected and perhaps the violent method of death. It was implied he had cancer or something.
  6:22pm dc waters:

If you're truly a "reborn Christian," a Republican is the last thing you could be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Matt from Springfield:

Bare Trees is an amazing album, one of the prides of my vinyl collection. (And NO--you're not allowed to skip Mrs. Scarrot's "Thoughts On A Grey Day" poem at the end!! It's a nice ending!!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Matt from Springfield:

You skipped it! CONFORMIST!!!!
Avatar 6:23pm Night Al:

'm loading in the 'Vans Warped' in the morning at the park 2 miles away. Gonna ride the bike.
  6:24pm Marmalade Kitty:

I knew there was a good reason why I never liked Alice Kooper!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Matt from Springfield:

Well, at least you segued into the Alice Cooper/Donovan collab! :)
He was actually a fan of Donovan!
Avatar 6:25pm Night Al:

I loved my Alice Cooper ' Goes To Hell' album back in the 70's. The title track and Give The Kid A Break. Mom Didn't like it though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Wretch:

He does say right out in No More Mister Nice Guy that he's a church-goer.
Avatar 6:26pm Night Al:

Alice's guitar player ruled.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Matt from Springfield:

Mama don't like it? Then Tie Your Mother Down!! (diff band, I know...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Matt from Springfield:

Mark Sanford and Anthony Weiner, forget career politicians, now we have punchline-based politicians to worry about!
Avatar 6:28pm sFrances from VA:

Right on, Carm! His great aunt was still living in the house when we went in the late 80s, she was out on the back patio!

Matt: We did it as a long weekend trip from Richmond, so it's not that tough! We just didn't have time to go to Al Green's church service, which even as an athiest, I'd dig.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Matt from Springfield:

Far out, Frances!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Carmichael:

Alice on politics: "Throughout his career, Cooper's philosophy regarding politics is that politics should not be mixed with rock music. He has usually kept his political views to himself, and in 2010 said "I am extremely non-political. I go out of my way to be non-political. I'm probably the biggest moderate you know."
Avatar 6:30pm sFrances from VA:

TUGBOAT!!!! I f'ing love Tugboat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Matt from Springfield:

Woooohoooooooo! Long time, no hear Tugboat Richie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Carmichael:

Cooper's original guitarist was Glen Buxton. Later on, it was Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter.
Avatar 6:31pm sFrances from VA:

if it's a live show next week, i might be brave & phone in. it'll be the Dusty show i'll hear as a 49 year old. turn 50 aug 3rd.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: He's been described as a country club Republican (appropriate, since I hear he also is big into golf).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Carmichael:

@Matt: he also owns a restaurant in Phoenix with Randy Johnson called Cooperstown. Baseball/Rock'n'Roll theme.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Matt from Springfield:

Wow, Happy soon to be Birthday Frances! You're just joining the Half-Centarian Club with Clay and Fab and a lot of the listeners here, I bet! :)

Avatar 6:35pm sFrances from VA:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Matt from Springfield:

  6:48pm Marmalade Kitty:

When I say Please please Me, I mean the Album, not necessarily the song.. Lennons vocals boss!
Avatar 6:49pm Night Al:

McCartney show's are awesome. Age is just a number. There is NO old age, there is and always will be just you.
Avatar 6:49pm Fredericks:

I am headed North in early August. If things work out. Can I find you at a CampaWhile?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Matt from Springfield:

The 'Drix!
  6:53pm Eric:

Rock and Roll has always defined itself specifically as youth music, which is not the case with country, blues, etc...
  6:53pm Scuttle:

Fredericks- class act.
Avatar 6:54pm Night Al:

I will never stop playing my piano. I don't give a hoot about what people think of me and my age. Music is keeps me sane.
  6:54pm Marmalade Kitty:

It depends on the 70year old whether they rock.. Arthur lee was at the top, towards the end..!
Avatar 6:54pm Night Al:

I can't imagine Iggy with a shirt on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Matt from Springfield:

How bout Iggy with shirt off, but a digital "black bar" over his chest?
  6:56pm Marmalade Kitty:
