Options July 20, 2013: everything was great, everything was fine, then I figured out she didn't have a spine

Upcoming event:

Saturday, August 10th, 3am - 6am: Brother JT Live in WFMU's Love Room - Warm's the New Cool
John Terlesky (aka Brother JT) is an author, painter, talk show host, animator, and sometimes sports fan (depending on how his teams are doing), and has also been known to be a bit of a monster on guitar, releasing over 30 albums in as many years as a solo artist and also as part of the legendary Pennsylvania garage band The Original Sins. Groove-laden gospel psych with a touch of T Rex inspired pop for good measure, JT graces the WFMU stage with friends Jamie (drums), Ron (bass) and Mike (gtr) to play some of his classics and showcase his latest release, “The Svelteness of Boogietude”. Get ye healed as the JT4 rip through an hour of the hits, invoking the power of rawk with the sounds of the Sins to the present day. Take your trousers off and come to Church!

  3:05am KP:

Hey, Bill. Hot enough for ya?
Avatar 3:07am KP:

There I am.
Avatar 3:11am Bill Mac:

There you am. How's the summer treating you. Yeah the heat is annoying.
Avatar 3:15am Steve R:

Bill played Hendrix and I missed it
Avatar 3:17am KP:

Went to free Waterboys concert in Prospect Park. They were surprisingly great but getting there and back on subway was pretty taxing. Just starting to feel better. Must be your presence.
Avatar 3:17am Bill Mac:

Hey Steve - I wasn't sure anybody would even care. You didn't miss LOVE.
Avatar 3:19am Bill Mac:

KP So long as you just have to listen to me you should be OK. Waterboys - Weren't they World party before that?
Avatar 3:21am Steve R:

Reading Hendrix on Hendrix
Strictly interviews, no pontifications
The one thing he wanted was not to be categorized and to let the music evolve as a free jam
Avatar 3:22am KP:

World Party was a spinoff. I think they are down to one original guy but they surprised me. They a got a big crowd rocking.
Avatar 3:24am Bill Mac:

Good to know that they can still get a crowd out to see them
  3:24am Emile:

Hey Bill, all. Good music and hot coffee are the antidotes to summer heat.
Avatar 3:27am Bill Mac:

Hey Emile, they say a hot drink on a hot day is good for you.... a beer is better though - just not so much for breakfast
  3:29am Emile:

Hey I saw George Clinton play this week. Wow! Waaay better than expected. In no way a travelling oldies show. He's still bringing it at 71! Great band and theatrics, too...see him if you can.
Avatar 3:34am Bill Mac:

Already two mentions of bands 'past their prime' still giving it up. makes me feel even more excited about the Hawkwind show. What's the point of half steppin if you're going out to play in front of a bunch of people (ok except for riding your own coattails to make some $$$)
Avatar 3:35am Bill Mac:

@Steve: Interesting - I never read a Hendrix interview.
  3:36am KP:

Where is Hawkwind playing?
Avatar 3:37am Bill Mac:

They're down in Philly in October. I'll pull up the schedule to see if they're playing up here.
  3:38am KP:

I was thinking, wow a band with memorable songs, long guitar solos, theatrics ... It's like a real rock concert!
Avatar 3:40am Andy in Berlin:

I'm finally awake! Good morning all!
Avatar 3:40am Bill Mac:

They're doing 'Warrior on the Edge of Time' which was just remastered - it's the one album of theirs I'm well acquianted with.
  3:40am michael Cologne:

YES ! Fee Time and a good radio show. Good Morning Bill and everyone !
Avatar 3:41am Bill Mac:

Woop, Andy's here! Good morning! Michael too! here comes Europe!
Avatar 3:41am Jay/London:

Hey good morning bill i love the heat ... but fell alseep in on the heath and am a bit red
  3:42am Emile:

Probably making a special trip to Chicago to see Hawkwind....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53am Mrs Stanley:

Good morning all from the Edinburgh contingent
Avatar 3:53am Andy in Berlin:

@Bill - yes, Europe is waking up.
@Jay - and some of us even in familiar beds:)
Avatar 3:55am Steve R:

I was roaming around Oakland last night about 10:30, walked into Yoshi's without a ticket and there was Alvin Lee rockin it. Age has nothing to do with greatness, but maybe talent.
Avatar 3:57am Bill Mac:

The Stanleys of Edinburgh!!!! Welcome to the party!
Avatar 3:58am Jay/London:

@ Andy too hot for covers last night think i got about 3 hours sleep @bill is a band still a band if it only has one original member in it ?
  3:58am Emile:

Cool Grant Hart song
Avatar 4:00am Bill Mac:

I'm always surprised by his stuff. Too bad the Husker boys crumbled like they did, but Mould has a nice solo career.
  4:00am KP:

This is a great track!!!
Avatar 4:01am Brian in UK:

Ahoy 'tis the good ship WFMU and Cap't Bill at the helm. Hello mateys. There's a case of scurvy down below I'll open it later Ahaaaa.
Avatar 4:01am Bill Mac:

Thanks for reminding me of this KP.
  4:01am michael Cologne:

This is a great song...also the Grant Hart Song.Does he still lives in the forest?. Would give a lot for a Hüsker Dü Reunion Tour...
  4:03am KP:

Love the Sympathy for Devil ripoff at end.
  4:04am KP:

Karl Wallinger.
Avatar 4:04am Andy in Berlin:

@ Jay - we've been lucky so far. Warm but not intense. Took a long walk last night, it was beautiful.
Avatar 4:05am Brian in UK:

Missed a great start. You could play the whole of side one of Love's Da Capo.

And Biting Tongues, just got into contact with Ken Hollings, their lead singer, after many years.
Avatar 4:14am Bill Mac:

@Brian - You know Biting Tongues?
Avatar 4:19am Bill Mac:

Shox Lumania
Avatar 4:21am Andy in Berlin:

I actually SAW Shox Lumania
Avatar 4:22am Bill Mac:

Really? Then this is something we have in common else we have in common. I thought I remembered them wearing veils instead of fleshy leotards.
Avatar 4:24am Andy in Berlin:

they were wearing very big hats when I saw them. Danceteria like around 81
Avatar 4:25am Brian in UK:

Not the whole group. I used to know Ken, the lead singer many years ago. Graham Massey went on to form 808 State.
I was reading a Hubert Selby book recently and he praised Ken highly as an editor so I got in touch. Here is a link to an interview with him. you might be interested.....
Avatar 4:27am Brian in UK:

Bill, could I be so bold as to mention the word 'comedy' again?
Avatar 4:28am Bill Mac:

You can say comedy.... I'll have to see what I can find. thanks for the link Brian.
Avatar 4:28am Andy in Berlin:

may I be so bold as to use the word 'Freberg'?
Avatar 4:29am Bill Mac:

'81. Says here they were from NYC. I think I saw them at the East Side Club back around 80-81. They probably opened for the Stickmen,
Avatar 4:33am Brian in UK:

@Andy. I raise you a Spike Jones and see your Freberg. Got a Lehrer in my back pocket. Oh what a giveaway!!
Avatar 4:36am Bill Mac:

You guys make my job easy.
Avatar 4:46am Andy in Berlin:

@Brian - I see your Lehrer and raise you Nichols & May
Avatar 4:47am Brian in UK:

I bust.
Avatar 4:49am Brian in UK:

Dishwashers killed the art of conversation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50am Stanley:

Day-o, dayee-o
Avatar 4:51am Brian in UK:

You gotta make this a regular feature, Bill.
Avatar 4:51am Andy in Berlin:

@ Brian - we're all winners today
Avatar 4:53am Brian in UK:

On your marks get set mumble. Priceless.
Avatar 4:53am Andy in Berlin:

1-2-3 Mumble!
Avatar 4:57am Brian in UK:

It's hungry busness laughing.

@Stanley might have some string hoppers with sambal for breakfast.
Avatar 4:57am Andy in Berlin:

For some reason the delay is extreme today. I'm still on Yma Sumac! Yer goin too fast for me!
Avatar 4:58am Bill Mac:

Wow, that is slow!!!
Avatar 4:59am Andy in Berlin:

I know, right?
Avatar 5:01am Jay/London:

love this mad world seems to add something darker to it
Avatar 5:09am Brian in UK:

I used to have Cocktails for Two on 78. Had real difficulty trying to make that Hic Puk Blulurp noise towards the end by myself. Only realised recently that it was three people doing it. Didn't feel so bad then. Just saying.
Avatar 5:11am Bill Mac:

Anything to impress the girls huh Brian?
Avatar 5:13am Brian in UK:

Felt like I had three lips. The only thing I pulled was a muscle.
Avatar 5:14am Bill Mac:

Hello? Is this thing on?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21am Stanley:

Hi Bill and everyone. Taken me a while to get going this morning. I blame the heat, though sometimes I feel I'm metamorphosing into some sort of lizard.
Avatar 5:22am Brian in UK:

Hey Stanley do you remember Peter Cook & Dudley Moore doing a Scottish version of this called 'I Got You McBabe'?
Avatar 5:24am Bill Mac:

... in keeping with the weather. Might be cool here in the studio but I'm going through a bit of a flesh crawl at the moment..... Cook and Moore did this? Why doesn't this surprise me?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27am Stanley:

@Bill - I do not. I will have to look that up. I still enjoy Pete and Dud's recordings. I was thinking, reading the comments this morning that like Fabio and Clay have the occasional throwdowns with their rekkids, I thought the format would suit a comedy track contest. Along the lines Brian suggested earlier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28am Stanley:

@Brian - a search of the internet did not reveal a local source of string hoppers. I will not give up, though.
Avatar 5:28am Brian in UK:

Bill, this came into my mind on hearing the song and seeing Stanleys writing. Lord knows what reccess it was hidden in. I am sure that I am not making it up. Could have been on Not Only But Also.
Avatar 5:30am Brian in UK:

Stanley try South Indian restaurants. Kerala or Tamil Nadu. Not the usual gloopy crap that passes for curry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33am Stanley:

Blow that harp boy, it ain't no fat man's toy
Avatar 5:34am Bill Mac:

I'm a killer diller
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35am Stanley:

Bill, you're something so cool there are no other words to describe it
Avatar 5:36am Brian in UK:

I'm a Phyllis Diller.
Avatar 5:40am Jay/London:

@Brian seems the pete and dud i got you babe was on one of there last show i can not find any footage of them singing it
Avatar 5:42am Brian in UK:

Bill, as often as a women lets you out of a side turning when you are driving!!
Avatar 5:43am Brian in UK:

Jay, I just remember it from the TV. Never seen it since, just lodged in the brain, suddenly released today.
Avatar 5:45am Andy in Berlin:

pursuant to the ongoing Cook & Moore discussion, this one literally has to be seen to be believed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46am Stanley:

See your 'I got You McBabe' and raise you a 'World Coughing Championship'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49am Stanley:

(Ps - fellas, have any of you had your swag yet?)
Avatar 5:50am Bill Mac:

When do you decide someone wins?
Avatar 5:50am Andy in Berlin:

got my t-shirt about a month ago
Avatar 5:50am Andy in Berlin:

@ Bill - when the first pflegm flies out
Avatar 5:51am Jay/London:

@ stanley no swag yet guess it will come sometime
Avatar 5:52am Brian in UK:

Still in swag hiatus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52am Stanley:

I am not alone..............
Avatar 5:53am Andy in Berlin:

maybe they do it country by country?
Avatar 5:54am Brian in UK:

Nice one Andy, will check later.
Peter Cook was very funny as the judge in the Jeremy Thorpe trial. Hard for those outside UK to appreciate maybe. Though biased judges are universal.
Avatar 5:55am Brian in UK:

Stanley you were alone yesterday. Remember that empty room?
Avatar 5:56am Jay/London:

have a great weekend and enjoy the sun all and be careful out there .. see you all next week more comedy please Bill :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56am Stanley:

Empty room? Yeah but I had the GTDR gang for company.
Avatar 5:56am Brian in UK:

Fabulous show, Bill. Catch the first hour on the archive. Safe journey home.
Adios amigos.
Avatar 5:57am Brian in UK:

Avatar 5:58am Bill Mac:

Hey folks, that's it for this one, oh and thanks so much for the barrage of Cheech and Chong one liners to close the show.... chuckles galore.... yowsers....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58am Stanley:

Blimey, is that the time (missus standing in doorway hands on hips time)
Great show, Bill, have an enjoyable weekend. And everyone, too.
Til next week, same time, same channel.
