Diane can you get Candiria to re-form and tour before the end of the summer? Maybe ask them to come on and perform to get the gears turning?

Hey, are you gonna play Govt. Issue's "Vanity Fare", the live version from their album Complete History vol.1 this week?? Huh? Huh?
![]() |
![]() Pi, are you going to that? |
![]() |
![]() I once saw NBTs in the mid-nineties, on some big huge bill sponsored by a local mainstream 'alternative' station. All the bands slagged each other on stage. I'd never seen anything like it in all my years of going to punk shows. Oh, I've seen one or two bands talk smack about each other but this one, the hostility in the air between bands was so thick, you could cut it with a knife. Most of the bands were amazing, Lunachicks, NBTs, Rev. Horton Heat and more but the headliner was then-pretenders to Green Day's dubious Retail Punk throne, Hagfish, who were universally reviled by audience and bands alike. |
Thu. 6/27/13 12:52pm
mb:
Just convinced the pipefitters next door to turn off WDHA and put on WFMU. Productivity doubled.

You should staple the living hell out of a paper doll fashioned in said PM's image. |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 1:43pm
dc pat:
I use to try to drum along with Devo and found it irritatingly hard. |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 1:45pm
Cheri Pi:
it's so awesome to see the full drum kit in their old performance vids- expecting a drum machine but getting a face full of sticks instead. |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 1:46pm
Cheri Pi:
Slap yer MAMMY!!!! |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 1:47pm

I just threw PM out the window along with everyone else that works here... |

Thu. 6/27/13 1:47pm
dc pat:
"who works here" should have said...hope Ike isn't around... |
Thu. 6/27/13 1:48pm
Vincent Priceless:
without doubt Alan's drumming was as much a part of Devo's signature sound as anything else, and probably even more so, actually, at least for me. PP! Great trib. D.
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 1:50pm
Cheri Pi:
atta boy P@! |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 1:52pm
Chris from DC:
Oh yes. |
![]() |
![]() These are good selections to spotlight Alan's drumming. The Hardcore Devo albums were just reissued on vinyl this month. |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 1:53pm
Dave B:
@ dc pat - try this next time: ktismatics.files.wordpress.com... |
![]() |
![]() Yeah! |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 1:53pm
dc pat:
Yeah, Uncontrollable Urge is a showcase for Alan drumming. ANd this is the goddam song that was so hard to play along with. |
Thu. 6/27/13 1:53pm
ian:
this set is saving my life. I am actually freelancing at MTV right now blasting this in the edit suite
Thu. 6/27/13 1:54pm
ian:
YEAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH | |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 1:54pm

Just Brilliant. | |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 1:56pm
Cheri Pi:
GO ALAN GO!! |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 1:58pm
Droll:
So many underplayed/forgotten loud shots from the big spud gun... Such inventive beats by Alan, and so well executed! There isn't any straight-4 time anywhere, and it works because he's listening! A drummer that listens! |
Thu. 6/27/13 1:58pm
ian:
Its sort of ironic that MTV and devo really had some synergy in the old days but now I am here working on a reality show about teen blog celebs.. de evolution is real as FUUUCK
![]() |
![]() Devo could not lampoon classic rock as well as they did without Alan's precise drumming. |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 1:59pm
Cheri Pi:
precisely C! |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 1:59pm
dc pat:
love Praying Hands. |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 1:59pm
PKNY:
This set proves I have way too few Devo records in my collection. I need to rectify that ASAP. |
![]() |
![]() ian, I think there should be an MTV3, you know music videos all the time? Because MTV2 doesn't show them. and VH1 Classic is starting to get bad, too. |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:00pm
Fred:
Hell Yeah! | |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:01pm
Vincent Priceless:
@Droll - Amen to that! @ian - LMAO here.
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:02pm

Cecile, that's what YouTube is for. |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:02pm
Cheri Pi:

![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:03pm
WaveyDavey:
One chromosome too many. The story of my life. |
![]() |
![]() my friend and her friends started an all-girl band. Mongoloid was the #1 song they wanted to learn. |
![]() |
![]() dcp, I think curation can be a nice thing. |
![]() |
![]() One Devo song I like is "Beautiful World." Did Alan play drums on that one? |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:06pm
Cheri Pi:
Alan Myers ain't nothin' to fuck with. |
![]() |
![]() yes, Ken. |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:07pm
Vincent Priceless:
@Ken - yes he did. | |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:08pm
Steve-O:
Hey Diane, great show so far today! R.I.P. Alan Myers, though. =(
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:08pm
Chris from DC:
Duty Now has Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA going for it. |
![]() |
![]() Outstanding....thanks for the info. If I don't hear it in FMU in the near future, I'll seek it out on the internet. |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:09pm
Cheri Pi:
I was just going to say the same thing, he's like the lead singer of the band. except he sings drums |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:10pm
Vincent Priceless:
how's about THAT'S PEP??
![]() |
![]() I suspect that some of the material on the Hardcore comps aren't as old as they say they are - which I suspect is due to them not wanting Warner/Virgin to have ownership of them. |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:10pm
common:
Yea, Chris! Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA!!! with you.
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:12pm
WaveyDavey:
They stole Ken and Andy's theme song. Oh Noooooos! |
![]() |
![]() @Diane: Duty Now seems to be the best overall album in my opinion, too. Seems to have the weirdness of their pre-Eno stuff but still rocks plenty hard. |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:12pm
Diane Kamikaze:
Don't worry Smart Patrol Mr. DNA (and Ms. Kamikaze) is coming up! ;) |
![]() |
![]() damnit! I was just listening to efd's Devo tribute which I missed last night...only to miss Diane's Devo tribute this afternoon. I should just live in the present, man. |
![]() |
![]() I have a really soft spot for Freedom of Choice |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:14pm
Chris from DC:
I saw them on the Freedom of Choice tour, so yeah Cecile, me too. |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:15pm
dc pat:
me too, thumbs up for Freedom of Choice |
![]() |
![]() I saw them on New Traditionalists. They were great, too. |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:16pm
common:
devo's satisfaction and polvo's mexican radio are my two favorite pop covers. so good. made it their own.
![]() |
![]() I saw them on SNL with this song. Scared the crap out of me, and at the same time, they were intriguing. |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:18pm
Diane Kamikaze:
Saw them on Duty Now/ Freedom of Choice/ New Traditionalists and 2x in the last 5 years. Always great performances. So outside the realm of a "live music show"... |
![]() |
![]() I completely lost track of Devo, post Oh No in 1982, although I met them at a Tower in-house thing in like 1985 or so. Devo was my first ever rock concert. I saw them on the New Traditionalists tour and then the Oh No tour. |
![]() |
![]() @Cecile - I had the same SNL experience. When they were shaking on the ground to shed their jumpsuits? Yikes! |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:21pm
ian:
whoaaa deep cuts! | |
![]() |
![]() And that whole DEVO chant? Mind-blowing. |
![]() |
![]() and a great Mothersbaugh vocal too |
![]() |
![]() Jonee Come Back! |
![]() |
![]() From my brother's site: 14-Oct-1978 Fred Willard/Devo www.prismnet.com... So I would have only been six. |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:27pm
Green Mountain Man Mark:
Questlove from The Roots sent out a Vine yesterday with a video clip he said was the black answer to Devo. Called Ozone. You would think they would at least carve energy fro-domes but just plain Afros and weird glasses.
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:29pm
dc pat:
Oh Alan.... |
![]() |
![]() I was, uh, 17. And it still freaked me out |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:31pm
ian:
hard to imagine anyone drumming this tight but hard but subtle all at the same time now. Hell they cant even program drum machines to sound this tight anymore..
![]() |
![]() Oh, man, this is a great one. |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:32pm
Vincent Priceless:
oh man....what about "Love Without Anger"?? LOL
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:32pm
Cheri Pi:
Now I think that Alan was the greatest drummer of alll time. |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:33pm
Ryan:
Love Snowball | |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:34pm
Cheri Pi:
Devo was one of the first "rock bands' I was exposed to as a kid. so glad it wasn't Menudo or Backstreet Boys. It's good to be born in the 70's. |
![]() |
![]() he's up there, for sure |
![]() |
![]() [slow, prolonged clap for DK, Devo and Alan Myers.] |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:36pm
Vincent Priceless:
Here Here! | |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:37pm
Cheri Pi:
In french class we had to keep a journal so I turned in a weekly French spud girl entry, what a weird kid.... my teacher never knew it was a Devo fantasy journal. |
![]() |
![]() ...aaaaand there's more! |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:38pm
Cheri Pi:
keyboard solo!!! |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:38pm
dc pat:
this is the Girl U Want of New Traditionalists |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:38pm
common:
cheri pi: I agree. I grew up in a tiny town in the 70s and i remember seeing devo spray painted on stop signs and then my punk rock mentor filled me in. good stuff.
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:39pm
dc pat:
oh man, Eastern PA people: remember when every freakin sign around Philly for Devon had the "n" scratched out? Amazing. |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:40pm
dc pat:
Diane, Zorro tune is still crankin... |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:40pm

My former German Shepherd was named Devo. RIP boy... he was beautiful and his daddy was a drummer. |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:41pm
Cheri Pi:

![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:48pm
dc pat:
YEAH, Shrivel Up still one of the weirdest tunes ever. |
![]() |
![]() dc pat:Word. |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:49pm
dc pat:
Blockhead has 11/8 timing, if we're talking about drumming. |
![]() |
![]() @Cecile, @Wretch: Ditto here. the SNL appearance was rather disturbing/entertaining (disturbtainment?). I also saw them on a local PBS show, a feature about them, with people expressing outrage at thier theories, image. That also shocked me in a way no punk rock band was ever able to match. |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:50pm
dc pat:
..right on... |
![]() |
![]() My last comment stayed unposted then i got a lengthy phone call here at work. DOH! |
![]() |
![]() almost as tough as drumming odd time signatures is singing over them....for me, anyway |
![]() |
![]() Devo was the gateway drug for me. All my musical explorations through the 70s/early 80s were about finding bands as weird as Devo. |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:52pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:
damn, i've missed it again. But this looks like a riot of a show. |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:53pm
Chris from DC:
YES |
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:54pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:
New Traditionalists was my first LP by these guys. Got it when it was new, 1981, then had to go back & get the history. Great discoveries. |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:54pm
ian:
How can I forget how many awesome songs devo has. Is there a pre 1985 devo song that ISN'T a hit??
![]() |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:55pm
dc pat:
I love Bob I |
Thu. 6/27/13 2:55pm
