Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:04pm G:

1978? I'd never know by the arrangement :)
  Wed. 6/26/13 9:05pm Gina:

Celebration is good.

Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:08pm efd:

I tried to resist the allure of this song. I really did.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:08pm Alexander Slade:

Something funky on the radio
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:10pm Stevel:

Hey, it seems it is a remarkably BIG song. It happens.

efd - I too tried to resist , but this IS summer song of 2013 :-)
  Wed. 6/26/13 9:14pm Turk 222222:

Get lucky: a fine song song song song. But I hope someone covers it and blends a few other lines into the repetition of the chorus chorus chorus chorus
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:15pm Alexander Slade:

When is this kind of music coming back
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:15pm G:

Everything comes back. The question is when.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:15pm Kat in Chicago:

I'd like "Get Lucky" better with slightly less lame lyrics. Maybe.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:15pm Holly in NC:

BEST Daft Punk cover AND video by a landslide - recordist Ivan Tønder right here:

Hi all friends of efd!
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:16pm jmd:

Nick Gilder, what can't you do?
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:16pm Kat in Chicago:

Goes rather well with this Nick Gilder selection though.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:17pm Holly in NC:

Whoa - @fleep - just noticed your rockin' avatar - so wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:22pm fleep:

Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:25pm G:

rice is nice? this is even better than norman greenbaum's salute to buying a canned ham!
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:26pm Kat in Chicago:

"Rice Is Nice". I see what you did there EFD
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:26pm Stevel:

I have my most relaxed, full-bodied smiles when I hear "...and a happy how do you do..." Good therapy.

BTW: RE. Daft Punk's deepness or lack thereof: "Rice is Nice?"
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:28pm G:

Rice is Nice peaked at 46 on the US charts. It was a follow up to Green Tambourine, which peaked at number 1. No wonder they got the guys to give an In Sound interview :)
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

..nobody @ school looked like us - they all looked like they'd - *Join the Army*!!!...
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:33pm G:

Bragging point: None of the league's management personnel have yet stated that anyone "should shut the fuck up." :)
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:37pm efd:

I have been summoned by the forces of glowing justice.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:45pm jmd:

@Gina: I thought you were doing a chorus. Fun!
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:50pm efd:

There's no glowing happening in here.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:54pm Stevel:

I believe we are about to witness a great battle between the forces of glowing/not glowing. My grandchildren will hear of this day.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 9:59pm Holly in NC:

@CeeDubbles - red beans & rice -yum! Not a Smithfield fan - that company still has *plenty* of other issues sans Paula. But I'm super lucky - I have tons of other delicious & reasonably priced pork options where I live, others probably not so fortunate. NC kinda best/worst re pigs.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:00pm Uncle Michael:

Oooh, pretty.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:01pm Uncle Michael:

I have Georgia on my mind.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:03pm Holly in NC:

I really, really, like this Mantles lp. I think my fave work of theirs since "Don't Lie" 7in - what was that, 2009? Yikes.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:04pm Uncle Michael:

I never know any new music. I don't get serviced.

Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:04pm Stevel:

Neat! The Hussy gives a rockin' set (Sunday night). Better than that, they stayed with a friend and we had homemade BLTs and cookies before they hit the road. I felt like their cool uncle, which means they are very kind to old people.
  Wed. 6/26/13 10:04pm PB:

The Mantles, much like the Allah-Las, sound like an updated version of the Byrds to me. Not that there's anything wrong with that, they are both really good.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:06pm Holly in NC:

@PB - I adore the Allah-Las. :-)
Latest Mantles has more of a Feelies vibe to my ears.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:07pm Alexander Slade:

Says Burnt Ones are playing Wally's World in Chicago. Wally's World?
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:10pm Uncle Michael:

Nothing personal...but I loathe Freddy Cannon. I'll forgive a Rad Sox fan.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:10pm doca:

hello efd and fellow listeners, how's it going?
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:10pm Uncle Michael:

Especially a totally rad one.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:11pm G:

As someone with Baltimore relatives, I think Buck Showalter may have some input into this :-)
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:14pm Loretta:

Hi Evan....hi to all listening!!
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:17pm Holly in NC:

Hi doca & Loretta!
  Wed. 6/26/13 10:23pm PB:

Holly, I read something somewhere about the new Mantles having a Feelies vibe. Certainly, nothing wrong with that either. New Mantles CD is on my "to buy" list. I also really, really like the Allah-Las. First album was great.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:24pm Ken From Hyde Park:

RIP Alan Myers, drummer for Devo.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:28pm Stevel:

Not sure I remembered Eno produced the first album. Apparently Bowie helped on weekends.

From the Wiki "Both Iggy and Bowie, as well as Brian Eno and Robert Fripp, expressed interest in producing Devo's first release."
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:29pm efd:

hello to you doca, Loretta, PB, Holly, Ken FHP and anyone else I missed!

G, we'll see where things stand at the end of the season!
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:31pm efd:

and Roy Thomas Baker produced Oh No!
  Wed. 6/26/13 10:31pm map:

Did someone die?
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Devo's roots in the Midwest went back earlier than Punk's Year Zero, no? I think they were more like filmakers before being a band??
- You hear how good a drummer he really was here...
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:35pm Stevel:

Devo existed around 1973. There is video out there if you're feeling geeky.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:36pm G:

Boston v. Baltimore. Gotta call Yankees below .500, and Brian Cashman can go ahead and tell me to shut the fuck up.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:38pm Uncle Michael:

As a freshman at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1978 I can remember an older student at the checkout counter in the photo department asking me "have you heard the De-evolution Band? They're from Akron, Ohio."
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:39pm Uncle Michael:

Cashman schooling A-Rod was priceless.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:40pm doca:

simon reynold's rip it up and start again has a funny part where he shows that one major music magazine from britain offered to its listeners the opportunity to visit akron, ohio, home of devo and pere ubu. sure it was a fascinating ride.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:42pm efd:

I'm no fan of A-Rod, it should go without saying, but I thought Cashman's comment was way out of line.
Wed. 6/26/13 10:43pm Richard from Venezuela:

Hello Evan and all the listeners.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:45pm Uncle Michael:

Probably but a clusterfuck in Yankeeland? More please.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:46pm Stevel:

doca: That's amazing.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:49pm Stevel:

OK, I just saved rip it up and start again at my library. Any other suggestions? I'm gonna have to buy the Punk Magazine book. Its too wonderful to borrow. Besides, I think its only about $30.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:50pm G:

I don't think either A-Fraud or Brian C. is acquitting himself all that admirably. It's not like one of them has to be right, after all :)
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:51pm Danne D:

Hi EFD :)
Hi Funk Fans :)

What's worse than Michael Buble covering a classic song and having it play starbucks? Some dude tuneless singing along *sigh* but happily earphones are on now.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:51pm Mike East:

Dang. How did I miss a devo set...I'll have to catchup tomorrow
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:52pm Uncle Michael:

I like for them all to be wrong. I soak in schadenfreude.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:52pm Uncle Michael:

I'm a small and petty man.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:52pm G:

fwiw, wolframite is the main ore source for tungsten
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:52pm Danne D:

:( sad about the news about Alan Myers. I've learned to be apprehensive every time I hear EFD play a block of the same artist :(
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:52pm efd:

Big picture I agree, G, but it's hard to think of a more harmless tweet than the one that caused Cashman to blow up. (Which, I admit, is not to say that I don't enjoy the ensuing media frenzy.)
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:53pm kevin g:

We carry the Punk zine book at my job. I haven't bought it yet, but it looks great.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- oh - presumed 'wolframite' like marmite/vegamite - but not...
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:55pm G:

Cashman didn't want to be snookered into having to play A-Rod. It's a business (who knew) and the Yankees might save on useless personnel cost by getting the performance insurance if he doesn't play at all. Not that that makes either of them look good.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:56pm efd:

Hi Danne D, and hi kevin g and Mike East! Hoping to avoid those same-artist sets as much as possible.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:57pm Uncle Michael:

Play same-artists sets by people everyone already know are dead!
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:58pm doca:

@Stevel: hey, sorry, I didn't read your reply. I don't have any other references on the subject, but I would gladly like suggestions. I heard about that Punk Magazine and I kinda liked it, but I won't buy. Have you seen the notes to Rip It Up And Start Again? They're very useful...
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:58pm Uncle Michael:

I like the heroes of toolkit track.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

UM: That's called 'ClassicRock'.
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 10:59pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 11:00pm Uncle Michael:

  Wed. 6/26/13 11:02pm Joe B:

even if Yankees get insurance to pay for it, the salary still counts against the luxury tax
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 11:02pm Stevel:

Not ANOTHER Canadian aboriginal group!
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 11:06pm G:

@Joe B: Yes, it is true the Skankees are in big trouble no matter how they slice the bologna
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 11:07pm Loretta:

Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 11:18pm Stevel:

Devo on Fridays, 1980, it says. Girl U Want/Gates of Steel.

Wed. 6/26/13 11:18pm Eddy in Australia:

@Stevel and doca: 'From the Velvets to the Voidoids' by Clinton Heylin covers the Ohio scene. It focuses on the Cleveland bands but I'm pretty sure Devo get a look-in. Either way, it's a great book
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 11:20pm efd:

happy birthday Loretta! Not sure if i can squeeze some Teenage Lust in tonight, but if not the definitely when I get back!
And happy birthday to your brother, UM!
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 11:21pm Loretta:

thanks Evan... you're a sweetie!
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 11:22pm Uncle Michael:

efd, my bro is a Sox fan on par with you. He'd appreciate the Freddy cannon more than I did.

Lordy. I watched that Fridays episode the first time around!

Hi Julie! I am barely awake after last night's excitement - how in the world are you going to stay up for your show?
Avatar Wed. 6/26/13 11:34pm Julie:
