A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

hi trouble. i picked up that aretha record you played a few weeks ago for 2 bucks. i was so happy to find it...but it skipped. oh well. thanks for the introduction!
Avatar 9:02am Trouble:

good mornnnnninnnnggggg!
Avatar 9:03am Trouble:

did you clean it? sometimes a good washing with a paper towel to dry can work wonders...
Avatar 9:05am PKNY:

@common - is it a bad skip due to a deep scratch, or is it a one-time skip? You might be able to try the old 'put a quarter on the headshell' trick to work through the skip.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am Mike East:

good morning trouble!
  9:07am common:

trouble. i did clean it. i shall again and see what gives.
Avatar 9:07am doca:

good morning trouble!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am ausmanx:

common, it sounds radical, but drawing along the grooves over the scratch with a marker pen can fix a jump. it's worked for me before!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am Adrian in London:

So, is everyone gasping at the Serge Gainsbourg tribute act who got two years in prison for stabbing his neighbour, a Johnny Halliday tribute act? Saw it on the FMU Twitter feed and the sentence was handed down this morning. Strange days…

- you can't make it up Adrian...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am ausmanx:

can't you plead "justifiable assault" for stabbing a johnny halliday tribute act?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am Mike East:

i think i will venture out to the post office to see if the package notice i got is, in fact, fmu swag. very exciting.
Avatar 9:14am trouble:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am ausmanx:

i am not holding my breath for swag as surely it will take longest to get to this part of the world... as long as it arrives before the next marathon, i guess... and it's midwinter here now, which doesn't suit the swag, does it?

Trouble, during the next mic break could you ask DJ Icepack what's in high rotation for him currently?
  10:11am Robert:

Is he trying to do this in a key? Is the instrument even tuned to one? Feh.
Avatar 10:12am pat from the district of columbia:

not a lot wrong with this Willard Hodgin tune.

And there you have it, folks. BOTH sides of the political spectrum represented...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Adrian in London:

If you have a lie-in at the weekend that's it; you'll have missed summer. Meanwhile in Seville the tarmac is melting on the roads like a Dali Camembert clock, every single day…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am ausmanx:

yep, you can look forward to that, brian, and to our lamentable prowess at soccerball since we qualified for the World Cup tonight...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am KevinfromBayRidge:

Avatar 10:33am pat from the district of columbia:

australia qualified for the world cup already?? man US has about 10 more matches to play to even qualify.
Avatar 10:34am Trouble:

hello and thanks cory!
Avatar 10:37am northguineahills:

I believe the US still has five more matches including tonight against Honduras. There are ten games total in the final hexagonal qualifying round. I believe Japan qualified almost two weeks ago.
Avatar 10:39am pat from the district of columbia:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Mike East:

have i mentioned, great show so far!
  10:45am kwhitehead:

Trouble, did u happen to make it to the Lee Perry/Adrian Sherwood dub show at LPR a few weeks back? Right up your alley, I think.
Avatar 10:47am Trouble:

merci mike east! no i missed that K whitehead! dang. i have seen lee perry previously. i would have loved that, too bad i live in a cave and didn't know about it
Avatar 10:49am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 10:51am Brian in UK:

Everyone needs bicycle clips.
  10:52am Robert:

I became a fan of a certain pop song because of that punch-drunk effect. A bad snowstorm in late Nov. almost 20 yrs. ago caught me driving 6 hrs., almost running out of gas twice, from Newark to the Bronx. During that time "Christmas By Myself This Year", which was new, played multiple times and I got to like it very much.
Avatar 10:54am northguineahills:

I had tix to that Lee Perry/Adrian Sherwood/Sun Araw etc show, but b/c of insomnia the night before, I fell asleep around 8pm, and didn't wake until 12:30AM, I was so mad at myself.
Avatar 10:57am Brian in UK:

Is this a new Festival in the Desert record? I have the 2003 record with Robert Plant amongst others.
Avatar 11:00am Trouble:

yes,it's from 2013 brian in UK!
  11:00am kwhitehead:

Northguineahills. Too bad but you still could have made it! Lee and band didn't hit the stage until 12:45am. Mad late for a weeknight. Some serious full body bass from A. Sherwood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am tim from champaign:

Thanks for the report, DJ Icepack. Sounds like good listening and playing.
  11:01am mb:

My favorite part! The dub selections! Trouble on and on!!!
Avatar 11:03am northguineahills:

Yeah. my friends told me to come, but the thought of cabbing it from Brooklyn made me remember when I did something similar last summer to get there right as the band finished.
  11:14am xezzy:

Hello everyone! Hi Nico...
  11:15am r i s k y:

Loving the Nico! Thanks!
Avatar 11:17am Trouble:

hah! scott williams and i were just joking: nothing like nico to close down the comments thread< and here you are!
Avatar 11:20am northguineahills:

@Brian in the UK: That video about the the lost city of Phnom Kulen said that they were pioneers in using LIDAR technology for archaeology, but I worked for a firm that used LIDAR to find old Spanish sites in St. Augustine, FL, back in 1998.
  11:21am xezzy:

@trouble: yes, that lured me in and it's so obvious...
Avatar 11:22am pat from the district of columbia:

OOOOOoooo, take that Mahendraparvata-finders! Smacked down by St. Augustine! Hello? Mahendraparvata? Yeah it's 1998 calling, we want our LIDAR-pioneering back.
Avatar 11:23am Trouble:

whatever it takes to lure you in xezzy, glad to have you !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am Andrew Waterloo:

I think "pioneer" is used as loosely as "expert"
Avatar 11:25am pat from the district of columbia:

speaking of World Cup, I want to basically cover a wall in my house with a sheet of plastic so I can make a giant WC bracket. Anybody have any suggestions about what to get?
Avatar 11:26am pat from the district of columbia:

..and use dry erase markers on it or something.
  11:27am Robert:

Does it have to be a transparent sheet?
  11:27am biglazy:

Dear Trouble, I'm driving around Brooklyn waiting to hear who is playing this amazing and mysterious music. Brava. The Hirofumi Tokutake Raymond Scott track. Yesss. Need to locate that one. Hey when was your Boogaloo special I'd like to see the playlist. Regards...
Avatar 11:28am northguineahills:

Ok, you just answered my question of what I typed out. I believe w/ dry erase markers, you can get those giant sheets at Office Depot/Staples type of places.
Avatar 11:28am pat from the district of columbia:

no I don't think transparent. White I guess like a dry erase board.
Avatar 11:29am northguineahills:

Used to have a small one the size of my refrigerator door on ...(wait for it), .... my refrigerator door.
Avatar 11:30am pat from the district of columbia:

oh really? Ok ngh, I'll go check out the office supply store. Last time we had several poster boards taped together but it got sloppy...
Avatar 11:32am northguineahills:

Although, I think we got ours online. I have no idea what it was called, as the gf got it. (materials aren't my forte).
Avatar 11:32am Trouble:

thanks big lazy! it was a couple of months ago. look to the archives column and click on my show header. you will see the guests: harvey averne, pat longo, jonathan goldman, that's the show! october 9!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Lewis:

@pat from dc - I made a big white board from melonite (I think it is called). The folks at home depot will know it as "shower board" 4x8 sheets are not very expensive and you can simply nail it to the wall (if you want to make that level of commitment...)
Avatar 11:34am pat from the district of columbia:

thanks Lewis, we'll see what mrs. dc pat will put up with. I know dc pat, jr. will be on board with "the bigger, the better"
Avatar 11:36am pat from the district of columbia:

hey that's an Easter Peewee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Adrian in London:

hey did I ever tell you my Junior Murvin story?...ah never mind..
Avatar 11:42am pat from the district of columbia:

there's that Veery again..
  11:43am Robert:

Why so fancy? Just put up white wallpaper with a temporary glue just sufficient to hold it up. Or just any paper and tape.
  11:43am Robert:

If it's tournament brackets, why would you ever need to erase? So keep it simple.
  11:45am brandon:

trouble, you might like a Linus bicycle, they're new and made to look like the 60s-70s ones. ive ridden mine around nyc for 3 years now and the only problem i've had is breaking some spokes in the rear rim... i don't know if their "large" sizes are big enough for a tall lady like you... but they have a few models i think... http://www.linusbike.com/
Avatar 11:46am pat from the district of columbia:

Didn't like the paper. Got halfway through and didn't like the way I'd set it up. I want to be able to change stuff. It's a lot to manage on one big piece of paper. Especially with kids involved. "NO I WANTED TO WRITE THE WIN DOWN!!!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Lewis:

yes the dc Jr factor will be much easier accommodated with the ability to erase!

our white board has seen things we never imagined...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am paul b:

I read some of those Gerald Durrell Books as a kid. I liked them! I also read the Alexandria Quartet which were written by his brother Larry
Avatar 11:48am Trouble:

thanks brandon those are gorgeous, too pricey for me. trying to scrape dough together to buy a schwinn 'coffee', a little cheaper...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Skirkie:

Since I moved to JC I sold both my bikes. I sold them for no money to people I didn't know. I was also unaware I was selling them until after the fact.
Avatar 11:58am Trouble:
