Welcome back, Scott.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm DCE:

I have this thing where as soon as I get exposed to sunlight my nose gets bright red. Looks like sunburn but it's not. Looks like I'm a drunk but I am.

Hey MfS
  3:28pm leaky/weaky:

tell us all a truthful song
Avatar 3:33pm the glowing one:

I always wondered about the name of the song... it sounds like "large tongues in a speak" kinda.
Avatar 3:34pm the glowing one:

oh, and it kicks ass.
Avatar 3:34pm Droll:

Uh oh -- prog police are surely gonna show up now. May as well crank the volume to max.
  3:34pm fripperism:

I did not get suspended for playing Lark's Tongues Part 3 over the High school intercom.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm efd:

excuse me, but I got a report of some prog being played?
Avatar 3:35pm the glowing one:

I always dreamed of using the school's intercom for something like that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Scott Williams:

prog police must concede the hot saturated summer heavy jam contained herein! yo efd, a pleasure to share the skeeter tent with you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Rick from SC:

Avatar 3:42pm Droll:

Ditto TG1. Where do you go from LTiA1? I mean beside LTiA2... Totally worth the Prog infraction.
Avatar 3:43pm Eyepatch Fox:

Oh, I did see that show! Omigosh, it was ridiculously adorable. He sprinkles her tea with love.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm YETI BOB:

2013 is the year of the Prog Rock Revival! (Well, it didn't quite happen in 2012...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Matt from Springfield:

@YETI BOB: The Prog Rock Revival is this year! Now, more than ever! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Parq:

There's a group/artist called Sexy Rexy? That's wonderful. That's what they called Rex Harrison in his palmiest days.
Avatar 3:49pm dc pat:

YES. Just in time for the EA...
Avatar 3:55pm northguineahills:

Funny, Sonic Boom did a different cover of Indian Summer as Spectrum.
3:56pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Ohhhhhh, I raise my fingers to the sky to gather in this iteration of a Beat Happening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm tim from champaign:

What? Sonic Boom recycled a song? Well, I never......
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Scott Williams:

yeah, both those Spacemen 3 guys tend to revisit a lot. I got no problem with that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm tim from champaign:

Me neither. Sonic Boom and J Spaceman are excellent recyclers.
Avatar 4:04pm dc pat:

jEEEZus this Oneida tune is rippin!
Avatar 4:06pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

[copy] DCP's comment / [paste] [insert a few exclamation marks]
4:06pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

My Grandma went to Oneida, and all I got was this stupid t-shirt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Scott Williams:

Oneida's sweat never failed me yet!
  4:10pm SpacePlace:

Sun Ra rules! Chrome another under appreciated great.
Avatar 4:13pm dc pat:

For some reason this tune reminds me of being 10 and sitting in the back of my parent's station wagon in the summer. I guess that's what they intended..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Carmichael:

Hi, my name's Carmichael and I'm a WFMU-holic. <gazing through cigarette fog for recognition> Neon Indian gets mucho stars.
Avatar 4:15pm the glowing one:

I like that album, next one is even better... if you like that chillwave music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Carmichael:

Weren't we just talking about Spacemen 3? Not complaining, mind you.
Avatar 4:22pm Monica:

oh man, i LOVE this heatwave song!! stellar, scott!
Avatar 4:23pm Dave B:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Scott Williams:

Mo! This whole album kills me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Scott Williams:

Hey Dave!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: Major fan of Neon Indian -- the sun-drenched kind of washed out electronics, always good for a summer feel. Incidentally, I am also a WFMU-holic. I had no intention of quitting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Carmichael:

That Gal Costa sounded suspiciously like the Bobby McFerrin/Rob Wasserman tune on Duets. Or vice versa.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Scott Williams:

ewwww, really?? it's a Caetano Veloso tune, from around '75
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Carmichael:

I've only heard the Indian on FMU, so I don't have too much of a past with them. But my family DID enjoy Atlas Moves, which came on the FMU thumbdrive I got last year as a premium.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Carmichael:

Sorry to scare you, Scott. It was just my impression after hearing the sonic vocal harmonizing.
Avatar 4:52pm steve:

hey Scott, welcome back. i liked the Field track, never heard of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm DCE:

sweet funk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm G:

Why do I hafta have so much goddam work on Mondays??? I missed Frippification. The Lark Ascending for the electronic era. Will have to catch on archive. Yeah, I know how LTiA goes. But hearing it OVER THE AIRWAVES. Trust me, that didn't happen in the 70s, either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm DCE:

I agree with that, G. it's special when you can enjoy it with everyone else, or in a different environment.
Avatar 4:54pm steve:

G, did any King Crimson make it onto the radio back then?
Avatar 4:55pm steve:

id love to hear some archives of 70s hard rock radio
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Carmichael:

In the Hall of the Mountain King. Not much else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Scott Williams:

Thanks Steve! The Field is a Swedish dude called Axel Willner. He was famously responsible for the 6am dance party at the FMU tent at Primavera a few years back - blog.wfmu.org...
Avatar 5:00pm steve:

hot damn, looks like a great time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Carmichael:

Jeezus. Court of the Crimson King. Mind-riffing is flawed today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm G:

Yes and Genesis were much bigger sellers, and had a poppy aspect to them KC programatically eschewed, so their "singles" were on some radio playlists when early/mid 70s KC never were.

Someone must have played KC on a freeform show, but not on the AOR format stations that most college-age kids listened to in the 70s... You didn't expect to hear Gentle Giant weirdness either -- but it was almost a point of pride among some in the dorms to listen to stuff you would never hear on the radio. I guess we were doing our own individual or small-group freeforming...
Avatar 5:07pm northguineahills:

Jeff played that Deviation Social this morning. Getting good airplay.
Avatar 5:13pm northguineahills:

I don't recognize the Robert Wyatt...Hmmm...
Avatar 5:15pm steve:

G, that is so very informative, thank you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Carmichael:

I was kind of prog snobby in my day. If a song played on the radio, it was too commercial. Then when a song NEVER got played, I was also mad. I recall being into Gentle Giant, Utopia, Caravan and Camel before anyone else knew who they were.
Avatar 5:25pm Droll:

G, The 80's KC incarnation did have a pop streak, like all the other prog bands took on in the 80's. Sleepless got a 12" remix by Bob Clearmountain, but it wasn't a very good pop song so it was DOA. Genesis, Yes, and Asia were all writing real pop and trying to make chart toppers, but KC (like Rush) has a commercial curse, partially cultivated by themselves but mostly by rabid fans and unhinged haters.
Avatar 5:26pm Stanley The Meat Balloon:

Why, hello.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Scott Williams:

Ahoy, Stan! Welcome to the radio
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Carmichael:

@Droll: and by the DJ media, trying to sell off Kansas and even Styx as *prog*. That's when I turned the knob way to the left, looking for freeform stations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm G:

Exactly, Droll, and there are prog fans who like, or tolerate, or abhor, the 80s stuff. I'm openminded; 80s 'dinosaur' prog bands were trying to survive the punk/disco/hairband asteroid strikes by finding something that could work on some commercial level.

@Carm: I 100% recognize your summary, and I knew many of us like that in the mid-later 70s...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Carmichael:

Now Walter Carlos, I didn't know he drove around in this part of town. I actually like this stuff, and I just said it out loud. Eventually, I'll star this song.
Avatar 5:33pm steve:

this is awesome. Nicky Siano recently said on his podcast that in the 70s he'd open his sets with a side this Sonic Seasoning record... never heard it til now
  5:33pm bloopy:

Anyone watch Game of Thrones?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm efd:

ha... fitting reaction to this afternoon's news.
Avatar 5:36pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

hah! viva äss!
  5:37pm Joe D:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Parq:

<clicks on link re Maxwells, does spit take>
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Wendy del Formaggio:

WHAT THE FUUUUUCK?!? No Maxwell's?!? Okay, other than that steak place -- and there's one in Morris Plains so fuck them -- there's no fucking reason to ever go to Hobroken again. I hope the entire yuppie shit-hole falls into the river, but let's give our friends who still live there fair warning so they can canoe out.
Avatar 5:39pm Droll:

"The culture in Hoboken is driven by reality TV now. A lot of the bars downtown are fighting with each other for who has the most giant TVs. That's what Hoboken nightlife has become."

What's next? Live bands that are just some guy jumping up and down in front of a laptop? Oh, er, uhhh, nevermind.
Avatar 5:43pm northguineahills:

Damn, It's been quite a while since I've been to Maxwells.
Avatar 5:43pm steve:

ugh. what a bummer. to be fair Hoboken has sucked for a long time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Ike:

Oh man, that ye olde Lightning Bolt show at Maxwell's was delightfully brain-smashing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Parq:

Everything ends. Everything. Sigh.
  5:47pm moose:

saw stereolab at maxwell's and the ex with tom cora. 2 best shows of life probably
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Wendy del Formaggio:

A Maxwell's highlight for me was seeing Mike Watt & The Missingmen. I love Mike Watt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Scott Williams:

getting the radio show shoutout while YLT & Feelies covered "Roadrunner" at Hannukah was a major personal highlight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Carmichael:

I would die if I saw Stereolab live. That's how much I like them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Ooh! Big highlight, Scott Williams! Nice! Every year I missed the YLT Hanukkah show cos I could never get my shit together in time to get tickets and then it would sell out. Maybe they'll move it to the Bell House? A bigger venue means MAYBE Wendy gets in! L'chaim and all that.
Avatar 5:58pm northguineahills:

Great show Scott!. My pseudo-ex is making me reorganize my cds to make space. She acted like she was asking me to do a chore. Always fun to me!
Avatar 5:59pm Droll:

I've only been to Maxwell's once (because I live in Seattle), but it was for the last Maxwell's H&M in 2012, so I feel like I got a quality experience. I was riding in listener Bob's car, and we instantly found parking within 100ft of the door, so I got cheated out of that part of the experience.
Avatar 6:00pm steve:

ngh - do you still listen to cds? ive been wondering what to do with mine, havent put one on in 5+ years other than to rip
Avatar 6:00pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:
