Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Lewis:

Does a bell ring in the DJ studio every time some one favorites a song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Scott Williams:

Fire's out, folks! Man, I want a 1968 electronic music curriculum for 6th & 7th graders.
Avatar 3:20pm northguineahills:

wow, I actually have that flexi disc. A friend got it from a library, and gave it to me back in '96.
Avatar 3:23pm Chris from DC:

Probably my favorite Simple Minds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Scott Williams:

It's a good'n!! But I love Empires and Dance even more
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm fred:

I wouldn't have thought I'd ever enjoy hearing this song again (Shout). Well played, Scott, well played. And good afternoon too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Scott Williams:

Hi Fred! Hi Everybody!
Swag For Life Member 3:29pm c0NZ:

I'm in my loft in sunny Glasgow. If I look out the window I can see the high rise flats where Jim Kerr grew up. Or maybe the space where it was (there's only 1 block left).

Avatar 3:33pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

YES joy.
  3:34pm Robert:

I wonder what happened since then to that one introduced on the Flexidisc who was a HS freshman at the age of 12. That'd make him 57 now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm fred:

Black Bug! Amazing they're in Bordeaux, yet I heard about them here. How come I never saw them? It did save a lot on shipping costs though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm DCE:

I love veggie sausages
Avatar 3:36pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I sense a theme.
But still no cicadas here (dc) that I've seen. Pup is getting hungry...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm fred:

I'm looking forward to what should be a great week: first Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker -- with Ictus playing Steve Reich's Drumming, and Marta Coronado (!!) and Cynthia Loemij (!!!!) dancing. Then Jandek, then Byambajargal Gombodorj! Cynthia Loemij and Byambajargal in a single week, I might just blow up
  4:00pm Glenn m:

I wish this place would catch on fire instead
Avatar 4:01pm northguineahills:

wouldn't have guessed Bryars.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm DCE:

sounds like an exciting week, Fred!
Avatar 4:06pm Sean D. Daily:

I would LOVE to go to a school run by baboons! Sounds like fun.
  4:07pm Eric:

Sounds like someone about to go on a rampage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm DCE:

this is disturbing and hilarious
Avatar 4:08pm Cecile:

I've seen that artist listed as Perfect Hair forvever?
Avatar 4:08pm Dave B:

Hey there Mr. Williams and all in attendance this afternoon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm fred:

@NGH: me neither, but pretty cool anyway
@DCE: it is for me: my fave singer and dancer in the span of a few days, though few would share my excitement. Jandek is just a footnote
Avatar 4:14pm northguineahills:

Avatar 4:27pm amEdeo:

Scott Williams you are so small and green and insect-like today. Hello, my friendly friend.
Avatar 4:31pm Cecile:

they should change their name to No Bloody Joy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Scott Williams:

amEd'oh, busted!! hahha DCE, noooo -- I am but a +1
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Ike:

Holy mutant cow, this is so different from the album version that I didn't recognize it at first.
  4:37pm ScottC:

I like!!! are they gazing at their shoes right now???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Scott Williams:

they're actually really fun & go more for the metal hair-shaking thing
  4:42pm Robert:

I don't know if others feel the same thing, but I find songs like this "Ghost Blonde" with the bass strings very heavy and reverbing in it, to be very soothing, either on record or at the performance of it.
  4:43pm Robert:

I haven't been to any music in a while, but hearing something like this outdoors would be especially relaxing.
  4:46pm Robert:

Is that actually 2 ladies singing, or is it somehow delayed to get that effect from 1 singer?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Mike East:

this sounds so much better than whatever the hell these people are doing in studio 3...(cranks up computer speakers)...YEAH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Scott Williams:

just one lady singing, with devices
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm DCE:

those are good devices, man
  4:48pm Robert:

Thanks. Nice effect.
  4:50pm Robert:

I'm figuring delay line (probably digital these days, but could be analog) plus reverb on both the 1st & delayed output. And she has a pretty voice, probably well practiced.
  4:51pm Robert:

Is that sound produced by No Joy's own engr., or someone on staff at WFMU?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Scott Williams:

Jasamine had all her FX inline, I just stuck a DI on there
Avatar 4:54pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

DANG, just got back to the 'phones and missed the set. To the future past archive in the future thing!
  4:55pm Robert:

Thanks for the info. What's "DI"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm DCE:

audiophiles are coming?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Scott Williams:

dontcha worry Turnip, whole thing'll be on the FMA in a matter of days! Robert, that's a direct box - converting line level signal to mic level for the board, which is what you do when they run their mics thru FX
Avatar 4:57pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Hooray for the new Pinhas, as well...!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi Scott! Reverend! DCE! And all you folks! Happy to be joining the fun today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm DCE:

sounds great
  4:58pm Robert:

"DI" then standing for "DIrect"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm DCE:

MfS, you been gone too long
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Mike East:

I believe the I in DI is Input.
Avatar 5:01pm northguineahills:

Beer???! Who said that?!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Scott Williams:

"Direct input", tho according to uknowwho: "variously claimed to stand for direct input, direct injection or direct interface"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: I *know*, right, man!
Seriously, since I'm off training early today, now's the time to send an email to FMU's Stream Team so I can listen live at my new workplace. I rigged it to listen to Archives, but so hard to comment when you're not listening live!
Avatar 5:02pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Disco Insect.
I have spoken.
  5:02pm Robert:

Could it be "direct impedance"? Just to throw in another possibility.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Matt from Springfield:

@NGH: I thought it came from my mouth, but it's too busy taking in beer--can't hear a thin*BELCH*! ;)
Avatar 5:05pm Chris from DC:

Aw yeah.
Avatar 5:05pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

th' Düül!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm Matt from Springfield:

You can hear BOTH umlauts on this track.
Avatar 5:07pm Sean D. Daily:

Who knew the Daleks could ROCK SO HARD?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Matt from Springfield:

Euphoric Electronics sums it up well.
Avatar 5:14pm northguineahills:

Ha, I faved that Amon Duul track on Fabio's show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm Matt from Springfield:

You and 11 others, NGH! :)
I like how tracks you favorite in one show will show up already starred when you're logged in to another show!
Avatar 5:16pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

This doesn't sound like No Joy. Or are they done.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Matt from Springfield:

Yes! Email just sent to the Stream Team for assistance! Now, I wait and see... :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Scott Williams:

Word is Ray Manzarek just passed. for some reason that makes me wanna watch this again: www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Andrew Waterloo:

RIP Ray Manzarek www.twitlonger.com...
Avatar 5:24pm glenn:

watch this instead. www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Matt from Springfield:

Com Truise-y, nice!

WHOA NO! Ray was probably the most talented member of The Doors. RIP.
Avatar 5:25pm northguineahills:

FUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! really!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar 5:26pm northguineahills:

Ok, I'm tripping, I thought I read Rob Mazurek.
Avatar 5:27pm Cecile:

that's sad. I poked fun at Ray, but he did a lot of good things in his career and had the sense to produce X early on.

And that acceptance speech sucked. Way to go, "thinking man's band."
Avatar 5:29pm Cecile:

Liked Weird Al, thouigh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Scott Williams:

Cecile, you gotta start raising your hand today, sistah! And I disagree. As for Ray.... a lotta ppl died today. He's one of em. Recent FMU internal convo: who WASN'T the worst member of the Doors.
Avatar 5:31pm Cecile:

that acceptance speech made me hate Rush even more.

It's easy - worst member of the Doors was Jim. No contest.
  5:32pm bloopy:

how do u pronounce Düül!
Avatar 5:33pm Cecile:

like drool minus the "r"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Scott Williams:

nope, Ray was worse
Avatar 5:33pm Cecile:

He was a dopey interview, that's for sure. But still, I liked some Doors songs. So sue me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Matt from Springfield:

Actually Scott, Ray is the only one I could say was *not* the worst member of The Doors. Sure, he kind of had a promotional streak to him, but so did a lot of people much worse than that. Was there anyone worse than Jim? Hard to say for sure, but so far Jim's coming out the "winner" in that category.
Avatar 5:35pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

Who else doid today? The way some people say it in VT and other parts up here. Doid. As in the set up to death stories known in New England. "He was doin' (such and such) and there was an accident, the goy doid."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Matt from Springfield:

@Mark: You doid, when you stopped doin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Scott Williams:

I've prolly played doors on the radio. you've heard post-jim records? you gotta hear Glen Jones's interview w/ Ray. Jones hung up on him, it was gorgeous.
Avatar 5:36pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

@Matt-what, drugs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Scott Williams:

ps, not gloating. never even thought of him in terms of "dead" or "tribute"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Matt from Springfield:

Sweet! Now I would be interested in that! :)

@Mark: No, I just meant: As long as you're "doing something", you're good. It's when you STOP doing anything, that you should be worried! That is if you still have self-awareness after your life has just ceased...
Avatar 5:39pm Cecile:

play Adult Books by X, that should do it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Scott Williams:

DJ Bonebrake!
Avatar 5:40pm glenn:

or soul kitchen by x. even more appropriate.
Avatar 5:41pm Cecile:

yeah, glenn, perfect.
Avatar 5:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Well - I freakin' love The Doors - if not the idea of quality time w/ Jim Morrison (nonetheless wunna my major heroes). Manzarek cameoed on a Bunnymen track or two...
- Monday is my 'Friday' - & so good to come home to FMU, yerknow...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey RRN63, Happy "Friday"!
(At least it's SOMEONE's Friday, and Happy... ;)
Avatar 5:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

..ThankYou, my friendly Matt Groening character person...friend...happier I'm off Work anyhow...That Weird Al looks great...
Avatar 5:50pm glenn:

i kinda feel that if x, who had great musical taste, liked the doors enough to have manzarek produce them, then who am i to dislike them? then again, the soft parade is one of the worst albums ever made.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Matt from Springfield:

I heard this Moroder album from Joe McG this weekend--what a visionary! Pretty advanced synth keys for the time, and great music to his Schlager!

@RRN63: Good to know you can be a "character" reference of mine!
Avatar 5:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I wonder how much the term 'over-produced' was in circulation in 1969 - prob. enuff actually...No Fun to be in the Doors then - but No Fun to be in The Beatles either...No Fun to be in America....the World...
Avatar 5:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

☆ Caetano
Avatar 5:56pm Cecile:

I dunno, in 69, i was a little kid, and life was pretty oK.
Avatar 5:56pm Stanley The Meat Guy:

OOoops how did I get here?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Matt from Springfield:

What a concept Jenny! And innocent, yet kinky!

@Stanley: Don't worry, this show is for all who constantly ask themselves that very question...
Avatar 6:00pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I wasn't @ Altamont either...spacetoys in the sandbox...hours of dull thrilling B&W moonscape landing on TV...KinkyInnocence - TraciLords?...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm Matt from Springfield:

Awesome show Scott! Thanksalot! Have a GREAT time in Spain!

Have a good night, everyone!
