Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Thanks for listening to this episode of The Dusty Show. I do appreciate it. This week found me a bit under the weather with a cold. Enough so that it kind of kept me off the streets where interviews were concerned, save the Motley Crue guy in the park. Thought I would play a story instead. Hope you enjoyed it. I really like writing simply about the Mid-west in the 70's, probably because I was there. As for the flea market finds, perhaps I overdo them sometimes. I did like this batch, though. I always love playing music, but it's not what we're really supposed to do in the time-slot. Not much else to add this week except thanks again and I hope you keep checking out the program when you can. Thanks for your supportive email lately. You can always drop a line at : dusty@wfmu.org. I'm also on Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/groups/pigeonnaires/?fref=ts

Until next time, enjoy the Spring, take care, and ... always remember.

  6:11pm God:

Thanks for thinking. Keep on keeping on.
  6:12pm Night Al:

The coward of Boone County...
Avatar 6:12pm david_:

go kate!
Avatar 6:13pm InBrkly:

Screw Garrison Keillor. Clay Pigeon is America's greatest monologuest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm G:

Mire like a monolohost :)
Avatar 6:14pm Clay Pigeon:

Hey all. Good to see you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Carmichael:

What's Kate wearing?!?
  6:15pm Nietzsche:

God is dead
  6:15pm God:

Nietzsche is dead
Avatar 6:15pm northguineahills:

I like Kate's voice...haha!
  6:16pm dale:

clay - ever read t.r. pearson's 'short history of a small place?'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Keynes:

In the long run, we're all dead.
  6:17pm Nate:

LOVE Clay's southern accent!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Carmichael:

Look out, Joe Frank!
Avatar 6:19pm InBrkly:

That's funny actually, G, I wasn't sure monologue-est was a word. Monolo guest arg.
Avatar 6:20pm Clay Pigeon:

Thanks for listening to that.
  6:20pm Nate:

Yellow River!!! ???
Avatar 6:20pm david_:

Fights were- seemingly- so much more straightforward back in the day, none of this hiding behind the internet. I guess the latter just makes things that much worse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm G:

Monologist is the most common spelling.
have I heard Yellow River since the early 70s on CKLW?? Maybe not.
  6:22pm dale:

i wonder if bub made any sweet love in jail.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Matt from Springfield:

Aw man, missed a Clay story! Oh well, now's a good time to come in :)

Hi Clay and everyone!
  6:23pm Night Al:

Wow...I wonder when the last time Sack Dress was played on the radio?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm G:

And I haven't heard this doowoppy number since ever at all.
Avatar 6:23pm sFrances from VA:

I'm going to have to relisten to the story, my neighbor was going full throttle with his lawnmower. Which added to ambience in a way but....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Carmichael:

Christie is actually a British band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Matt from Springfield:

@G: Ya know the last time I heard that doowoopy number? Nineteen Sixty NEVER!!

(credit to SNL's "Bronx Beat")
Avatar 6:24pm sFrances from VA:

Oh hell yeah, Nazareth!
  6:24pm Nate:

Love some Naz!
Avatar 6:24pm Fredericks:

That last sax solo was an insult to the instrument!
Avatar 6:24pm david_:

A man and his lawnmower...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm G:

Here's another of the many vocalists Axl Rose patterned himself after.
Avatar 6:25pm Fredericks:

Hope Nazareth doesn't have a sax solo!
Avatar 6:26pm david_:

Somewhere within him Fabio has love for this Nazareth...
Avatar 6:27pm sFrances from VA:

Fabio: It's ok to like Foetus *and* Nazareth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Matt from Springfield:

@G: YES. Nazareth, AC/DC, Humble Pie, many high register full power metal male vocalists in the mix.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Carmichael:

And Conrad Schnitzler and ABBA.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: The problem isn't so much pitting Conrad Schnitzler against ABBA--it's like pitting Conrad Schnitzler against Rick Dees!
Avatar 6:29pm sFrances from VA:

On the other hand: this. is. beyond. Just.beyond.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm G:

@Matt: I mean, I've heard so much more GnR running up and down the radio dial in the last 20 years that the Naz vocals sounded weirdly like Axl R., A LOT -- but OF COURSE it's totally the other way round...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Matt from Springfield:

@G: I'm younger, so I first heard Nazareth as "a 70s GnR"..of course GnR is really an 80s Nazareth!! :D
  6:30pm Night Al:

I grabbed his mike stand to fast at one of his load outs and his echoplex tube whipped spittle in my mouth. Not cool.
Avatar 6:31pm Fredericks:

Sounds like when I stopped listening to Humble Pie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Matt from Springfield:

Nice proggy band with nice Arista production. Learned them courtesy of DJ Julie! #BringBackTheTriumvirate
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Matt from Springfield:

The only good reason to cell phone record a concert instead of immersing yourself into the concert, is if you're on the lookout for the singer to fall off stage or get attacked on stage (Biebz! ;) And, you only need ONE audience member to do that.
  6:34pm Nate:

What's Fabio talking about?
  6:34pm God:

Thanks, Clay, for bringing out Fabio's humanity
  6:35pm dale:

j.d. blackfoot plays the indian part, but hes not indian
Avatar 6:35pm InBrkly:

Once I was at a beer garden with long tables and there was a pause in conversation. I glanced up the length of the table, and everyone one was holding up their phone and showing something to the person across from them. I thought the universe was about to collapse.
  6:35pm Night Al:

gonna slow talk the intro...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm paul b:

Lighters for concerts. Yeah there's an App for that: itunes.apple.com...
  6:36pm Nate:

I would love to be able to say that and afford that. Taxi song. . .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Matt from Springfield:

@InBrkly: Whoa, the phone images didn't shatter against each other, creating at least a force field??
Avatar 6:38pm Fredericks:

Now, This Blackfoot shouldn't be talked over.
Avatar 6:38pm sFrances from VA:

ooooh I like this.
  6:39pm Night Al:

Hovercraft has been cited as one of the most abrasive, non-commercial sounding bands ever to receive major-label distribution for its albums.
Avatar 6:39pm northguineahills:

I remember hovercraft.
Avatar 6:39pm kata:

haha, I used to see Hovercraft often when I first moved to Seattle in 1996. They showed films while they played which was very unusual at the time. Was a great live experience.
Avatar 6:39pm kata:

hi you guys ! How ya been ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi kata!
Avatar 6:40pm Clay Pigeon:

Reading your comments. I have a cold and 4 1/2 hours sleep. Feel great though kinda.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Carmichael:

I am a huge Camel fan. I'm not huge, but I like Camel a lot.
Avatar 6:42pm kata:

I have lost most of my privacy at work so I am all over the place here, listen when I can !
Hope you feel better Clay. Lemon/ ginger/ apple cider vinegar / honey !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Matt from Springfield:

Dio! Slayer! Anthrax! Diane Kamikaze assortment of bands.

@Carm: Diddo here! :)
Avatar 6:42pm sFrances from VA:

Hope you feel beter soon, Clay.
  6:42pm Night Al:

The Club Detroit just re-opened...hmmmm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm G:

Check out the 9-11 tower jumper tribute song on Camel's 2002 Nod and a Wink, song title "For Today" (10 minutes plus)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Carmichael:

You're not huge either, Matt?
Avatar 6:44pm kata:

omg this song used to give me nightmares as a kid - thanks for playing 'Shout at the Devil' Clay !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm G:

Clay always gravitates in that Spinal Tap direction every so often :)
Avatar 6:45pm Clay Pigeon:

This LP always rocks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: I'm huge in the Philippines (#5 on their pop chart this week), but then again, who isn't??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Todd76Pct:

Hovercraft was a buzz band for a hot mid-90's minute, mostly because Beth Liebling, a founding member, was married to Eddie Vedder, who sometimes guested on drums. Had the misfortune of playing the Knitting Factory in the 90's w/ an improv band the same packed-to-the-gills night they were making their NYC debut there...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm G:

How could he leave this behind??? :)
  6:46pm Night Al:

Jase the Ace got married yeterday to a woman he met while touring with Jon Oliva's Pain in England. She's nice. They had their reception at the old Quarterdeck last night and I jammed with Dana Piper, Joe Diaz and Jason Jennings. Felt good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Matt from Springfield:

Nachum Segal!!
Avatar 6:47pm kata:

hey this doesn't sound like Shout at the Devil
  6:51pm Nate:

I love it when Clay throws us all off with Electronica! Forge into the future my man!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Matt from Springfield:

Spoooooooky organ! :)
  6:52pm Night Al:

The piano's easy but the organ's hard...
  6:52pm davefromknoxville:

Clay! I am listening live for the first time in a year! GREAT TUNES.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Carmichael:

I just don't know what to say to a song like this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm Matt from Springfield:

Spoooooooky Hammond V3! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Carmichael:

That's a B3, Matt. Like Booker T played on Green Onions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Matt from Springfield:

From Philly, natch.
Thanks Carm!
Avatar 6:57pm sFrances from VA:

Take good care of yourself, Clay & feel better! Have a great weekend, y'all.
  6:57pm God:

Some chicken soup and shut eye. Plan on you being around for a long time. I'll be listening.
  6:57pm Night Al:

In November 2012 Rundgren again collaborated with the Dutch Metropole Orchestra. Can't wait to listen to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Matt from Springfield:

Aww, time to go already! Fun show Clay, I'll check out the story at the beginning!

You too Frances, have a great weekend everyone! AR!
