Guten tag, y'all. Has anyone heard about Westboro Baptist Church protesting at Jeff Hanneman's funeral. I don't advocate violence at all but I think WBC bit off more they can chew with mourning Slayer fans.

...Lou says w/ my cheap talk I can just go take a walk...well I never...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Matt from Springfield:

@Cheri: Cube of heaven...about a band/album name "Heaven Sugarcubes"? Implies a taste of acid, good for psych-rockin' out.
Avatar 3:23pm Cheri Pi:

Tim yes I heard that! WBC has become the ultimate compliment - proving w/o a doubt that one has lived their life fully and with no regret. I'll be pissed off if I learn they aren't coming to mine.

Avatar 3:37pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

It's somehow twice as weird to just hear Mr. Theftable doing that without seeing it happen. If you ever get the opportunity, do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Cheri, Hope you're not gonna burn down the building??!!

Of course not KFBR, I'll burn down the barn tho-
Avatar 3:46pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I played a fest with Theftable recently, & folks were referring to him as "iddim" ... in the end, I figured all pronunciations were 100% correct. Which fits, of course...
Avatar 3:49pm Cheri Pi:

Ah man, did anyone watch Nardwar interview Slayer in 2 pts?
Avatar 3:52pm Yair Yona:

Thanks for playing this Tippett track Scott. It's a great album, I forgot about it
Avatar 4:00pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm tim from champaign:

I'll have to listen to the Narduwar archives, CP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm efd:

Oh boy, this Thee Oh Sees song is one of those songs that you know is going to be amazing all the way through after just the first 10 seconds.
Avatar 4:02pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm tim from champaign:

I imagine Thee Oh Sees world looks like Hanna Barbera animation.

Avatar 4:07pm Cheri Pi:

I'm loving all this "bruised and battered depeche mode" sounding stuff, it's so fresh.
Avatar 4:08pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

...not meaning "superior" to whatever came before, just "superior" in general.
Avatar 4:08pm Cheri Pi:

"Grans of Sand" = boss!
Avatar 4:10pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

and yes, HELL YES to venting the loops.
Avatar 4:10pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm tim from champaign:

Chas in Pcola - Do you by chance know Scott Stanton?
Avatar 4:31pm northguineahills:

Need to get some bahn mi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Scott Williams:

no prob BDR, that's Pete King & Orch doing Vince Guaraldi's "Cast Your Fate to the Wind", on a Readers Digest box called "Love is Blue"
Avatar 4:34pm northguineahills:

Scott should do a compilation of compilations set. Almost already achieved that today.
Avatar 4:34pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 4:34pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

I am about to slaughter a rooster. Perfect soundtrack for this activity.
Avatar 4:35pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm tim from champaign:

Last weekend I picked up about 10 CRI LPs. Wish this would have been one of them.
Avatar 4:39pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

Sounds like sacrifice music.
Avatar 4:39pm northguineahills:

Bahn mi, a Vietnamese sandwich. Sort of want to stay for more of Scott's set.
  4:40pm bloopy:

is this the Lords of Salem?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Wendy del Formaggio:

GMMM, I'm sacrificing some hummus right now. I don't have a rooster. Have fun! Chop chop!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Mike East:

I'll take a Bahn mi, ngh....I'll save it for tomorrow, though. I'm full of leftover paella today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm DCE:

I'm sacrificing work to this music
Avatar 4:43pm Cheri Pi:

I'm having Banh Mi this Wednesday,. that settles it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Hmm, I was thinking about "It's a Rainy Day", too, from those drumbeats on the Megan Roberts track. Psychic Friends Network!
  4:45pm Scott Briggs:

come to Choke The Rooster! as per the mountain man above....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm tim from champaign:

That's the way Malkmus should've approached the Can cover album.
Avatar 4:47pm northguineahills:

God, I love a good paella. I had mediocre paella last month for my bday, and I was so disappointed. Seafood was good, but the rest was, meh.
  4:47pm Scott Briggs:

you can't even get a Banh Mi on L.I. can't even get a decent sandwich in Port Washington, I have to drive to Little Neck!
  4:48pm Scott Briggs:

I went to a Spanish rest. near Film Forum NY a few weeks back and it sucked, the paella was crap I almost choked on the rubber calamari in it. Godawful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm DCE:

this is so lovely
  4:50pm Scott Briggs:

this song hath charms to soothe the savage old punk guy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm DCE:

Turman's going to get himself on several government lists titling a song like that. Not that he would care.
Avatar 4:51pm Chris from DC:

Yes, love this Robert Turman record.
Avatar 4:51pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Clicky-star beaten to a pulp.
  4:52pm Scott Briggs:

can anybody recommend a great Viet sandwich place in nYc?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Mike East:

@ngh - here's a pic of my prep work. It was some of the best paella I ever had. I added some chipotle peppers to the tomato puree...and also made my own stock with the shrimp shells. We also used brown rice, which I was nervous about, but it turned out great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm DCE:

massage that clicky star, rub it gently.
Avatar 4:52pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

And yes. What Tim said re: Malkmus. That.
Avatar 4:53pm Dave B:

there's a BahN Mi joint down by 25/3
Avatar 4:53pm Chris from DC:

God I need a bahn mi now.
Avatar 4:54pm northguineahills:

I think the best Viet place I've been to was in Chinatown, can't remember which one. The one in my hood in Brooklyn, is ok, but it's just around the corner.
  4:54pm Scott Briggs:

25th n 3rd eh? I'll scope it out, thanks Dave. meanwhile I'm sitting in Port Washout LI. The lesser Gatsby
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Scott Williams:

someone got bahn mi for me??
  4:55pm Scott Briggs:

yeah Bklyn should have a few places I think there's one in N. Williamsburg but I heard it wasn't all that
Avatar 4:55pm Dave B:

I have a good artichoke/rabbit paella recipe thats mighty tasty.

@Scott Briggs - Saigon Bakery down on Grand Street too...
  4:56pm Scott Briggs:

Oh I think I've heard of Saigon Bakery somewhere..wow ok
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Scott Williams:

couple good vietnamese places near FMU, sadly the bahn mi place didn't last tho
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Carmichael:

For terrorists wanting to take over the world, this is a pretty mellow tune. OK, now I'm also on the lists.
Avatar 4:57pm Dave B:

and sorry... thats 25 & Lex - Baoguette....

  4:57pm Scott Briggs:

Gotcha thanks. Apparently Banh Mi Saigon on Grand St. is great.
Avatar 4:58pm northguineahills:

In n Brooklyn, there's one on Bedford, one on Grand St, and one on Montrose. Haven't tried the one on Bedford, but the other two are decent enough, but not amazing by any stretch.
Avatar 4:58pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Wendy del Formaggio:

There are ZERO Vietnamese places anywhere near me, although we have a halfway decent Korean joint in town, and a sublime Chinese place about 40 minutes away where they grow many of their own vegetables. Makes me miss jersey city with TWO good Vietnamese places, about one block from the other. One expensive, the other not. Both NICE.
Avatar 4:59pm Cecile:

Wendy, I don't know what I will do when I eventually move to a cheaper town in my dotage. I'm gonna have to learn to cook Vietnamese!!!
  4:59pm Scott Briggs:

yeah I lookd it up titled just Banh Mi on Bedford Ave. Heard it was meh. at least on Yelp. Yeah jersey City I think has some decent food these days, and Hoboken is cool but a bit expensive sometimes
Avatar 5:00pm Cecile:

and make my own bagels. And cure my own pastrami. Ugh. too much work.
  5:00pm Scott Briggs:

Trust me I have to do a hike into NYC or Brooklyn or Queens to get anything decent. This area BLOWS for food more and more. Pt. Washington is a food black hole. it wasn't when I first moved here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Cecile, I feel ya. We have NO good bagels up here in New England. A friend cures her own corned beef for similar reasons.

Scott Briggs, Hoboken is stupid expensive for food these days.
  5:02pm Scott Briggs:

OH yeah I gathered that. Last time i was even there was like four years ago already for a Winter Hours tribute night at Maxwells, and ate dinner there, which isn't that bad but the food is meh now I had sheph. pie it was ok
Avatar 5:03pm Cecile:

I can deal with Bruegger's because I am lazy.
I just wish they would carry the cream cheese from Rye Deli. Their bagels are lame, but it's the BEST cream cheese ever. Putting the two together is too much work.
  5:04pm Scott Briggs:

And then last year I go to the Tick Tock Diner in Clifton after like 15 years of not going, then the owner gets arrested for the uncle murder plot!
Avatar 5:05pm Cecile:

this term just about did me in.
I will do things differently when school starts in the fall again.
Avatar 5:05pm Cecile:

scott briggs, tell me more!
  5:05pm Scott Briggs:

I tried playing the first three new Iggy and Stooges songs, I couldn't get with it, I tried
  5:06pm Scott Briggs:

oh the Tick Tock case, oh my! So sick. That just happened a month ago or less. yeah owner tried to have his Uncle rubbed out and got caught in a sting and all that. Route 3 clifton in NJ That diner used to be great now it's not so great anyway
Avatar 5:06pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

When I was a kid we would travel around a lot because of my dad's work. One time when I was 10-11 we lived in Vernon, TX. I had a friend from school that I hung out with most all of the time. His dad was a Vietnam Vet and his mom was Vietnamese. So he was half of each of course. But she would make those sandwiched for us when we played outside, and use lettuce leaves to wrap up some delish stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Mike East:

hey, tick tock is right near me. Not my diner of choice, but definitely better than Park West imo.
Avatar 5:07pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

yes, the kid was half vietnam vet.
  5:08pm Scott Briggs:

Must've been great. Mike: Yeah Tick Tock is like, alright, Park West is where again? is that Passaic?
Avatar 5:08pm Cecile:

half Rambo/half Montegnard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Cecile, you must be in my neck of the woods. We have a Brueggers too. Their bagels are half-ass. But better than Bagel Works, which are bland as fuck. Sigh... If I had room in my shop for a big vat to boil bagels in, I'd make my own!
  5:09pm Scott Briggs:

I think Park West used to be really great many years ago, from my recollection, my dad used to live in Passaic and then Nutley so we went to all those diners all the time then, talking 1980s through early 1990s at most
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Mike East:

@Scott Briggs -Yeah, on 46. I'm a Pompton Queen guy (rt. 23)
Avatar 5:10pm Cecile:

I'm in Minneapols, actually.
We can have stale H&H Bakery bagels shipped in at Brother's. (Oh, pre-baked. Read half-stale) Or there's Bruegger's. Or Rye Deli.

I guess St. Paul Bagelry is good, but I never get over there.
  5:11pm Scott Briggs:

I see. My friend Steve Mariconda grew up in Pompton Lakes. his bro used to be in The Raunch Hands or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Tick Tock is NJ is ok, but the one in Manhattan (near Penn Sta) is pretty shitty. Awful service, too. Too bad, because the menu is pretty good, but the food ain't so great. I like the diner a block south from there -- can't remember its name -- across from the big post office. The diner I really miss is Cheyenne, which used to be on 33rd and 9th. Their burgers kicked ass.
Avatar 5:12pm Cecile:

wow beth kinda sounds like me except minus the slurring, cussing and mumbling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Whoa, I didn't realize Brueggers went that far west! That's a shame they ruin H & H bagels. Those are very nice when fresh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Mike East:

cool. don't know 'em. That's my hood, though.
Avatar 5:13pm northguineahills:

I used to work down the street from Cheyenne, but it closed shortly after my office moved there.
Avatar 5:13pm Cecile:

I am afraid of both failure and getting my eyes poked out.
Avatar 5:13pm Cecile:

Wendy, I think they think their toppings will redeem them, but it's not the case.
  5:13pm Scott Briggs:

I'm afraid of walking into bad diners, not getting my eye poked out. Anyway, I heard the midtown Tick Tock is dreadful! Sad. And I heard it's as dirty as sin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Cheyenne had the sweetest late-nite waitress. An older woman from Eastern Europe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm tim from champaign:

The only bagels around my parts are Einstein Bros and Pantera Bread. Yuck
  5:14pm Scott Briggs:

We used to meet all thru the 80s down at Silver Spurs on Broadway near The Strand etc. it's still ok I guess.
  5:15pm Scott Briggs:

Poor Tim! That sucks dude. meant to say the group that met at S. spurs was our nutty Lovecraft group of nuts the New Kalem Club
  5:16pm Scott Briggs:

Veselka used to be good for late night post club nights for breakfast and stuff.
Avatar 5:16pm Dave B:

I need to get myself down here again soon...

Avatar 5:17pm Dave B:

Late Night Happy Hour til 3am Thurs - Sat
  5:17pm Scott Briggs:

Dave this place looks radical just from the menu
Avatar 5:17pm northguineahills:

Ok, I can't put it off any later, time for a sandwich, will be back.
  5:18pm Scott Briggs:

Go for it! Do you recall Dave B, Avenue A Sushi?? The place that was across from where Niagra is now?
Avatar 5:18pm Cecile:

I like Pantera, but not their bagels.
Avatar 5:19pm Dave B:

@ Cecile - they make you F*CKING HOSTILE!!!!!!
Avatar 5:20pm Cecile:

Yeah. I like those little quichey things they make, though. om nom nom.
Avatar 5:20pm Dave B:

Ave A Sushi was good. Izakaya Ten is kinda more pubby, kinda like Decible only above ground.
  5:22pm Scott Briggs:

I walked into Ave. A two years ago and realized someone bought it and converted it into god knows what. Oh well.
Avatar 5:23pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

B Bagels corporate office is in Burlington, VT. Or one of them is. I know some of the people. They have stories.
  5:25pm Scott Briggs:

What's the deal with those Dangelos Sandwich Shoppes up in New England? I ate at one a long time ago mid 1990s or so, it was ok not great
  5:27pm Scott Briggs:

The grinder places D'Angelos. They're like, eh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm tim from champaign:

We'll bring back New York Bagels from Southfield on trips to the Detroit area to satisfy bagel needs.

The H&H on the UWS is now a Verizon store.
Avatar 5:35pm Cecile:

Southfield has some great bagels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Carmichael:

Where the heck were you guys BEFORE lunch?!?
  5:36pm Scott Briggs:

omg! so sad. H&H used to be great. I did read Detroit has some actual good pizza though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Oh Dave B, that is so depressing and typical. i was still living in the area when the UWS H&H closed. Granted, I get my bagels from Zabars because I work there so I get a discount, but fuckin' A. H&H!
Don't we have ENOUGH cellphone stores? What is it with them?!?
Avatar 5:37pm Cecile:

Modern Love
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Carmichael:

Nice bed music, Scott. I suddenly feel like roller skating!
  5:38pm Scott Briggs:

I recall the Let's Dance video clip got all the push on MTV though before China Girl did from my memory anyway
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm tim from champaign:

My wife attended elementary school in Southfield. She loved bagel Fridays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Mike East:

A few weeks back, my daughter and niece wanted to have a dance party, so I put "Let's Dance" on the turntable and let it ride. So many hits on that album. I'm a fan of Modern Love, myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Scott Williams:

Ah, Modern Love, that's right - thanks Cecile!
  5:40pm Scott Briggs:

I picked up a nice fresh remaster of Let's Dance (finally) a couple of years ago at HousingWorks was playing it in the car a lot the next few days, it's a good record but not great by any means but produced well
  5:41pm Scott Briggs:

Can we hear some Frank Chickens?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Wendy del Formaggio:

This AR & Machines track sorta reminds me of the keyboard-only version of "Eminence Front".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Carmichael:

Didn't Stevie Ray Vaughan play some uncredited guitar on that album?
Avatar 5:42pm Dave B:

@Wendy - if not for a cellphone store, then a bank. Just last week the Emerald Inn on Columbus shuttered after 70 years and will be a Kate Spade store.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Scott Williams:

a very fine Who number, Wendy. Hi Wendy! Carmichael, yup - tho I don't think he was uncredited, in fact I remember a big deal being made out of it
Avatar 5:44pm Cecile:

he wasn't credited on the album, but he was sure in the videos.
Avatar 5:44pm northguineahills:

nom noming my sandwich from Nam Nam. That's what it's called.
  5:45pm Scott Briggs:

lucky bugger! where is this in Brooklyn??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Dave B, further evidence of NYC becoming a place where nothing useful for average people is sold. No bagels, no neighborhood bars. Just mall shit and expensive crap. Sigh... Let's all move to Pittsburgh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Wendy del Formaggio:

hi Scott Williams! Fine show today!
Avatar 5:47pm Cecile:

no, wendy. Too close to my mom.
  5:47pm Scott Briggs:

I see it Nam Nam over near Bushwick or in Bushwick. Sounds great. I'd go tonight but it's only open till 9 supposedly and I'm stuck in LI hel.
Avatar 5:48pm Dave B:

I still call it home, and still have faith. (and I go out of my way to support mom and pop shops...)
Avatar 5:48pm northguineahills:

Montrose & Manhattan.
  5:48pm Scott Briggs:

Pt. Washington we have three bagel shops, four pizza joints, and I like NONE of them anymore. So sad.
  5:49pm Scott Briggs:

thanks yeah I bookmarked it on Yelp etc.
  5:49pm Scott Briggs:

however, I went to the legendary Whitestone sandwich shoppe Cherry Valley Deli last week, it's 24/7, been there for many years, so great!
  5:50pm Scott Briggs:

trouble is, it's in Whitestone. ho hum
Avatar 5:51pm Dave B:

there used to be a good Thai joint in Pt. Wash years back when I was on the island... cnat recall name or location at the moment
Avatar 5:52pm northguineahills:

They got a better recipe and better bread then the last time. It's pretty much just a take-out joint, although they have seats, it won't win any awards for ambiance. I'm very satisfied and have enough sandwich for two meals at $5.50.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Cecile, howsabout Baltimore? Providence?
Avatar 5:53pm Cecile:

I can do Balmer or Providence.
I hear Des Moines is kind of happening, but it's way too landlocked.

Little bunny is chafing under the constraints of oppression. Just saying.
  5:55pm Scott Briggs:

There's a Thai place here it's like, ok, wouldn't say superlative. A better one in Williston Park I just ate there last weekend, SriPriThai or whatever the same as in Queens
Avatar 5:55pm Cecile:

mom is enabling little bunny. Will she hide him from the cops when the law is after him?
Avatar 5:56pm Dave B:

A good bunny tomorrow makes for a delicious paella tomorrow night!
Avatar 5:56pm Cecile:

"No, Officer, I haven't seen Little Bunny. A warrant for murder you say? Oh, he's in the shed."
  5:57pm Scott Briggs:

I'll go check out Nam Nam soon next jaunt I take over to Brooklyn for sure. Half the time I end up in Queens for dinner, at least, because I cannot tolerate the food here mainly
