Caryn: back during High School times I joined the Cricket Club, partly because at the time it seemed like a fun affectation... but also because I thought that maybe if we were all starting fresh with an unfamiliar game, I wouldn't suck as badly at it as I'd gotten accustomed to relative to the baseball-obsessed other kids.

What I learned (and no surprise in retrospect) was that natural athletes are natural athletes, no matter what game they're taking up; and that bookish nerds remain bookish nerds, and are as likely to drop or fear a new type of ball as an old.

Oh, also: if someone invites you to stand at Silly Mid On, beware.
