That was damn good radio!
  3:10pm common:

this is hilarious!
  3:11pm Lindsay:

Say, is irritating radio your specialty ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Ike:

Oh my gosh, how can the locusts be here already?! The ground isn't 64 degrees yet!

Oh, never mind, it's just Kurt's show.
  3:13pm paula pc:

3:00 - 3:13 pm EST has been heavenly so far. Thanks, Kurt!
Avatar 3:13pm dçþät:

isn't there the WFMU manifesto somewhere that listeners like Linday can be pointed to?....
Avatar 3:14pm Droll:

Lindsay, You're thinking of Kenny G, this is Kurt G.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Interactive Dog Radio
- like birds on DVD for cats...
...the Audio equivalent of a colorful spectrum of light - ? (...right in yer eyes?...)
Avatar 3:16pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

We need a favorite button for just certain frequencies.
Avatar 3:17pm dçþät:

oh, Kenzo--how about a hate button, like a skull for songs we dislike? Don't think I'd use it too much but it'd be fun.
Avatar 3:17pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

And then someone could favorite your hate
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- clearly, Kenzo.
Avatar 3:18pm dçþät:

YES, EXACTLY! Oh just imagine the bad vibes...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...considereng the Compression Engineering characteristics of dif. Stations, Kenzo - that's prob. less a joke than I think...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- just like that!: I wanted Shame Icons for NonPledgers - or something Kewler than a Heart - like Spades @ the least...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Mike East:

what would a shame icon look like?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Friendship Society Paintball could release a lot of tension - certainly more interesting (to me) than talk of Fantasy Baseball...or Civil War reenactment...
Avatar 3:26pm Droll:

RRN, Why stop there? It could show what you paid (and what you still owe). Personally, I put away my 'thon decorations after H&M, my heart is in a box with my Xmas, Halloween, and Thanksgiving stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- a little stinky poo?

...& that Hendrix is just noise, too.
...Did you hear Dylan went Electric - ?!?! - OOMMGG - !
Avatar 3:29pm SueAdynamo:

you win. i muted.
  3:29pm Lindsay:

Seriously,You need to get laid..
Avatar 3:31pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i love the 'hate' icon idea! hi everyone. lindsay, there's always pandora.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

We were riffing on that Irwin's show before last :
- he had a Poster that looks as if could be a replacement for the Pledge Cow-Dog Graphic: If people don't Pledge, does this cartoon kid get run over? It never ends. Someone else said 'You have to Pledge to get rid of your Heart.' - LOL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I don't even mind being Guilted into Pledging! The Naked Lunch is crap gotta be paid for. Every Society has Rites & Jumps You In. (RawkBands are very Gang-like, ferinstance.) But I would choose - not @ heart icon...
Avatar 3:43pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

That BBC project must be brilliant. Loved the Marclay bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...if people don't *pay* their Pledges - does the cartoon silhouette kid get run over...
Avatar 3:46pm Van in DC:

I never pledge. I pay up front, always :) Have a great weekend everyone.

- When *do* hearts all disappear? Never?...back to Irregular Programming...Working in Retail, the Holiday comparison certainly resonates...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Caryn:

Oh sheesh, I keep forgetting about the one-hour change! Of course, with my luck, when we change our clocks this weekend, I'll then probably forget about that and tune in early for all the shows...
Avatar 4:08pm Kurt Gottschalk:

caryn, are you on orthodox daylight savings time?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Caryn:

@Kurt: oh, who knows? It's EU-mandated DST nowadays, apparently. But DST occurs at different times in different places. It's like Father's Day that way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I am not convinced of the benefits of Savings Time to traffic, farmers, productivity - but what do I know (compared to detriments of getting used to it & coordinating dif. countries?)

- but OK - Change the Time if you must
- but Change the Time you Change the Time (SavingsTime earlier than before) - now you just messin' w/ me gratuitously.

- How are you Caryn?
  4:23pm shelley hirsch:

nd for playing alessandros new cd or is it lp?

i was in norway when the clocks in the us were set back an hour. i got home and it felt like it was sunny all night!

Pass the cyanide...

i was in bergen for the borealis festival. brilliant!

  4:32pm shelley hirsch:

nice!!!!! ive was just in oslo--wonderful-want to see more of norway.did you perform there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Caryn:

@RRN63: oh fine, just bored with everything being closed for Easter. Still waiting to hear from those jobs. WFMU and British panel shows getting me through the days.
Avatar 4:35pm Cecile:

I have to say that since Kenny G moved on, this is my go-to place to groove on the spoken word.
Avatar 4:35pm northguineahills:

Even in the Bible belt in N Florida where my parents live, most places are open on Easter Sunday, except for Chik-Fil-A.
Avatar 4:36pm Cecile:

Lindsay, if you want songs, I would check out Trouble's or Duane's show on the archives.
Avatar 4:36pm Kurt Gottschalk:

oh, shelley, sweet of you to even think i'd be invited to play a festival in europe. no, i was there as a journalist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Often feel like it's Later Than I Think

- but one aspect of Creativity is to address the Times rather than deny them - & to take the Feelings - & the Sounds -around us - whatever they may be - & try to do something Aesthetic & Self-Expressive w/ *even them*. This makes them Ours rather than Theirs. (It's what Jung called 'Individuation' - becoming an Individual in relation to your Environment.)

- It's legit to have your Tastes
- & to Critique things on their own terms
- but it's worth learning what those terms are first - & Respectful to do so as well.

- Just my opinion (everybody's got one - as they chant in 'I Am the Walrus').
Avatar 4:41pm Mr. Lowry:

I usually don't like Prince, but this is tolerable.
Avatar 4:41pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i always like prince and this is tolerable
Avatar 4:42pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

This here is tolerable as HELL! Nice.
Avatar 4:42pm Cecile:

Nothing can bother me now.
Dave Attell is playing a couple of private shows for people on my favorite comedy club's mailing list, and I SCORED TICKETS FOR MY ACTUAL BIRTHDAY.
  4:43pm common:

i'm with you, kurt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm tim from champaign:

Frank Booth Industries. Good label name.
Avatar 4:43pm Cecile:

Avatar 4:44pm northguineahills:

Bebobbity awesome, Cecile!
Avatar 4:46pm Cecile:

This mailing list has been berry, berry good to me.
I've seen Patton Oswalt and Demetri Martin at some of this "insider" shows.
Avatar 4:47pm Cecile:

Attell will also be funnier in front of an audience of comedy loving drunk assholes rather than just plain old drunk assholes like he would at a theatre.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Caryn:

Ooh, nice, Cecile! Colour me both happy for you and green with envy at the same time!
On a related note, Eddie Izzard coming here, can't afford tickets. :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

It's After the End of the World
- don't you know that *yet* - ?!
- SunRa
Avatar 4:51pm Cecile:

Eddie is worth the money. I tagged along with a friend to Chicago to see him and it was worth the crazy ticket price and the plane ride. He was even funny in the United Center.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Carmichael:

Hiya Koit. Howzit, everyone?
Avatar 4:53pm Cecile:

Great, Carm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Carmichael:

Way to go, Cecile! I would love to see The Insomniac himself.

Last night I was playing an old David Sanborn show I taped on VHS. Christian Marclay fairly stunned the audience with a musical melange from his four turntables and pile o' vinyl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Sigurdur:

thats quite the list you have mr DJ
Avatar 5:05pm Cecile:

Carm, he is like the modern comedy Rabelais - a poet of absolute filth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm Caryn:

Nicely put, Cecile!
  5:07pm Folsom:

Gotta love john Paul Jones
Avatar 5:08pm Mr. Lowry:

I normally don't like Lady Gaga, but this is tolerable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

How much does Izzard have Routines (some of his stuff is pretty involved) - & how much does he Riff? - I'd feel disappointed if he didn't leave me - crippled...
  5:09pm Ian:

awesome set so far!
Avatar 5:11pm Cecile:

He riffs a lot. His mind doesn't stay in one place very long.
Avatar 5:12pm Cecile:

I mean, the Death Star routine shows up, and he retells the history of the world quite randomly, but he just gets distracted and goes off on weird tangents.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm tim from champaign:

Lately, I've been marvelling in how much Led Zep I hear in the Jesus Lizard. The Diamanda JPJ fits with my theory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- So not regular daytime Fri. listener
- but today (?) observe that Programs have been a little 'rough' - more Abstract stuff or 'Uneasy Listening' to begin w/ - then reward the effort w/ texture change later
...reminds me of an Ecstasy trip (...only had one, in fact...) in sense of it being an amphetamine-related ascent of tension - & the 'rolling' fun part the hanglide from that altitude.
Or perhaps not.
Avatar 5:15pm Kurt Gottschalk:

Avatar 5:17pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

that cassette dropout texture sure takes me back...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Diamanda Galas & JPJ - they were a Really Good Band.
- Really!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Caryn:

I just don't get why they've booked Izzard into an arena for his gig here? I mean, stand-up in general has only been popular here for 2-3 years, Izzard himself has fans certainly, but nowhere enough to fill an arena I suspect. Since the arena booking list for 6 months is essentially "Paul McCartney, Lady Gaga, Iron Maiden, Eddie Izzard, Bruce Springsteen". Really? I complain because as a fan I'd like to see him come here again, and if he ends up performing for a mostly empty house, he ain't gonna come back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm tim from champaign:

RRN - I think you captured the essence of Friday afternoon WFMU with "uneasy listening".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Carmichael:

"Kurt Gottschalk, stashed in yer dash for the drive home, here at WFMU, where we reach the beach and rule the pools!!!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...the good artist empty house no come back thing Sucks...Could he really not know all that though?
Avatar 5:25pm Kurt Gottschalk:

carm, HA!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Caryn:

@RRN63: he's been here once before, but it was a way smaller venue. I suspect the arena booking now is part "lots of fans were unable to get tickets last time, so we need a bigger venue" gone overboard and part "the booking agent is having delusions of grandieur".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Carmichael:

I like Izzard and Colin Quinn because they make me consider complex and lofty premises. If I want some easy straight forward observational stuff, Louis CK is my go-to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I guess three-hour DJing is common
- it's just the nature of the ride @ FMU that makes it seem Epic!
...Early on (I might have been home for more Fri. then around Xmas??) FMU had me thinking of '2001:A S.O.' all the time...perhaps not w/out reason.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Carmichael:

@RRN63: As nervous and paranoid as a lot of standups normally are, I'm sure they stress out all the time about empty seats or worse, blank stares. You're looking at 1 person on the stage; they're looking at a few hundred or thousand people, worried that they won't laugh.
Avatar 5:30pm Kurt Gottschalk:

ha! bryce and i were talking about 2001 today, and the ligeti music used in the soundtrack!
Avatar 5:32pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

sweet loop...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Carmichael:

Kurt, haven't you practiced all your DJ -isms for when you get the big call to be on the wacky Morning Zoo? Better to be prepared.
Avatar 5:34pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- Yes - Artist & Mgmt. (Agent) theme again.
I can't see Member names against Black (tho' I like Black) - but I never know if it's my old PC & just my situation. Suspect Colored name Fony on Black ='s no Contrast. Not critical but harder to tell who's who. Then again, like John&Yoko Bagism: If inna Bag - have to judge what's Said - not the Sayer.
Avatar 5:35pm Cecile:

Colin Quinn? I think he's a great writer, but he always seems like he's stumbling over his words. Like his thoughts are coming out faster than he can form words.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Carmichael:

I was impressed by his HBO special on the history of the world, which he wrote himself. He was slower paced, I think. Very Izzard-like in his observations, but without the heels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Dave the Spazz uses HAL (being a 'Dave', as am I) - which might be where it started
- & I was Commenting Ligeti (?:I will learn to spell that!) @ Bryce's today, yeah...He played Mr. Morse & I made the comparison (out loud).
Avatar 5:40pm Cecile:

Carm, I'll have to check it out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Caryn:

Colin Quinn and Norm McDonald are the two comedians other comedians compliment but I just don't care for, apart for the very occasional joke or performance. Occasional moments of genius and hilarity, and then 80-95 % nothing.
Avatar 5:42pm Cecile:

Petra Haden kinda wears thin after a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Carmichael:

You're right, Caryn. Their humor is very wry and dry, in my opinion. Although they make me laugh, I don't spit out my drink. I just smile.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Now only 'Cecile' shows up in bright red...?...
- Writer & Performer (& Improviser) are deffo. dif. skills.
- They nagged Milton Berle (anachronism) for just being a (memorized) joke encyclopedia but they say he always smoked challengers.
Avatar 5:44pm Cecile:

You know who I miss? Patrice O' Neal.
Avatar 5:45pm Cecile:

Norm McDonald is funny in interviews, but I never got his standup.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ah: Petra an example?: Only covers?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm G:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Whereas Robyn Hitchcock the mad writer. Imagine being locked inna room w/ him & Izzard???
Avatar 5:47pm Kurt Gottschalk:

naw, not so much. they do really pay artists. i'm just annoyed that i couldn't find info on that track (which i like quite a bit, mind you).
Avatar 5:49pm Cecile:

that would be too much of a good thing, rabbit.
Avatar 5:50pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

Thanks for the show, Kurt. Today is the first day I got out my flip flops to wear, and some shorts. I gain about 20 lbs every winter and I really notice it this time of year when I put shorts on for the first time since last year. By the end of summer I am about normal weight, then fall comes and I turn into a bear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm G:

my bad. not kurt's. though "not so much" is not a ringing denial :)
Avatar 5:51pm northguineahills:

Super fun show Kurt, Have a great weekend everyone!
Avatar 5:52pm Kurt Gottschalk:

no harm no foul, g. i neither love nor hate soundexchange.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Caryn:

An Izzard/Hitchcock double would be crazy. The closest I ever got was a night at a bar with Terry Pratchett and Robert Rankin. One is nutty enough on his own, but both at the same time? Fun times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm G:

Royalty documentation is fun, though, and that we can all agree on.

I know someone who did clerical work for ASCAP a few years back....
  5:54pm emmagineering:

DJKG! FURSAXA! wish i could be listening right now. playlist looks good? :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Carmichael:

@RRN63: When you click on a commentor's profile, the name changes color. That's probably why you are seeing a particular name and not the others. It IS a font color issue; it happens to me on some FMU pages and not others.
Avatar 5:54pm Cecile:

that sounds amazing, Caryn.
And poor Terry...
Avatar 5:54pm glenn:

two words, caryn: john otway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Carmichael:

Thanks for the great show, Kurt! And for quoting my idiot DJ -isms. :-)
  5:55pm emmagineering:

non-sequitir: i like how wfmu would never ask you to carry a one on the math question.
Avatar 5:57pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

you still have like 4 minutes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Caryn:

@glenn: ooh...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm G:

different DJs have different bespoke color schemes. on kurt's show, already visited profile links are dark blue on the black background. after week one i saw the blue lettering pretty easily. and the avatar is plenty anyhow, if you've seen it a lot...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Carmichael:
