Hello Faye!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Mr. Peabody wants to say that cartoon animals rool & don't the controls...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am yayson:

no, sadly. kilian eng, draws like möbius thinks like roger dean.
  9:36am Mark in the UK:

In the UK it's the coldest March for over 40 years or so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...'don't *touch* the controls'...he refuses to be misquoted...
Avatar 9:38am dçþät:

great animation!
Avatar 9:41am Faye:

thanx dcp! Yikes Mark, we have like 50 entire degrees of Fahrenheit over here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Good choice yayson. Now I know his name!
...Wonder if the NewClimateNormal spells a change in gulfstream for the UK - literal shudder. They predict fewer but larger storms & it looks just like that so far! It *seems* like all the Big Weather is hitting U.S. Midwest now instead of North New England here. - & down in FMU territory - they plain took the hurricane hit for us up here - let's not mince words...
  9:43am Ahmad:

So Eat Skull totally changed their sound, eh? I kind of prefer the "shitgaze" thing they were doing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Spatulator (formerly elwyn5150):

I <3 Daniel Johnston.
  9:45am DryEraser:

Daniel Johnston on warped tape?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Great & varied set of stuff almost all of which - Hipster cred in toilet - I know almost nothing about - ! Impressed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Spatulator (formerly elwyn5150):

A lot of his early work was distributed and recorded on cassette tape originally and doesn't exactly have the best production quality.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am tim from champaign:

Big Boys cover! Interesting take. I'm fiending for the recent Big Boys LP re-issue.
Avatar 9:49am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Peace be with you. What it is. The word of the day is "cloaca." Use it freely until 11:59pm, at which time you will receive new instructions. Thank you for your patience, and thank you for riding Metro™.
Avatar 9:49am nah:

Great gif! Sad I missed the first hour of the show, but happy to be here. Hi!
Avatar 9:50am fred von helsing:

whee tunabunny!
Avatar 9:50am dçþät:

Rev = nut.
Avatar 9:52am dçþät:

anybody remember that game I use to try to get people to play, a la Sean Daily? The last comment? You have to get in the last comment on a playlist at 11:59. Take off of Sean Daily's first comment way back couple years ago. Not saying I'm playing today but...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ya can tune a piano - but ya can't tunabuny.
  9:52am DryEraser:

Faye must take her tapes well. I know barely any of mine have survived 20 years. When they do survive, they age interestingly!
Avatar 9:53am Chris from DC:

Cool, looking forward to seeing Wax Idols next month.
  9:53am Ahmad:

Damn. Guess Wax Idols changed their sound, too. But this is great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am Andrew Waterloo:

I only have a Chris and Cosey cassette
Avatar 9:54am Cheri Pi:

I prefer cloaca to Swingline when I've got a lot of staples to dispense. Plus, the cloaca dispenses wisdom, only sometimes though.
Avatar 9:55am BadGuyZero:

I'm seeing Wax Idols with TV Ghost in Chicago in a few weeks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am cklequ:

I've still got a case of those lo-fi Daniel Johnston cassettes somewhere. Good old Stress Records....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am tim from champaign:

Very cool, BGZ. I've heard that TV Ghost is pretty fierce these days.
Avatar 9:56am Rev. Turnip Druid:

only able to lurk w/o listening so far. Studying the playlist and visualizing much out-rockage.
Avatar 9:59am Chris from DC:

Yep, they were on IPR. Still have that single.
Avatar 9:59am dçþät:

no? ok...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...can't be bothered - prefer to be 3rd or 4th, actually.
- If getting Last Word, have something to say! ( - of course, Shows just run out too...)
...First & Last words frame the whole board :
- I admit (timidly) I see the Comments as an Art Form or relevant in some way - but don't know if they'll endure any better than DryEraser's cassettes...
Avatar 10:00am BadGuyZero:

@tim: I saw TV Ghost in Denton, TX earlier this month. They played in the basement of a pizza place. It was pretty crazy.
Avatar 10:02am Cheri Pi:

Black Pus!

i wanna favor the movietone background track
Avatar 10:03am Faye:

oh good call kim I will update that info
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am tim from champaign:

This Black Pus is mighty good listenin.
Avatar 10:04am Jennique:

Just tuned into Black Pus. HELLO WORLD. Love it.
  10:05am Ahmad:

Kind of funny hearing Brian Chippendale's voice up front in the mix. It sounds a lot like Les Claypool's.
Avatar 10:05am dçþät:

  10:06am Ahmad:

We get Wax Idols/TV Ghost in DC at the end of April. With Lorelei!
Avatar 10:07am andymorphic:

first song of the day and what a way to get ready for the long weekend
Avatar 10:08am Chris from DC:

Always good to hear Screamers.
Avatar 10:08am Jennique:

Oh man. I miss Sifl & Olly. I think they have new webisodes now. Thanks for playing.
  10:08am Mark in the UK:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Greg from Bloomfield:

Morning Faye! Morning Children! That Black Pus song was so tight that it made me pour coffee in my cereal.
Avatar 10:17am dçþät:

yeah, love Comet, they just have to get somebody else to do the site. I'd like to make noise there....dammit.
Avatar 10:18am Faye:

howdy Greg! hmm interesting breakfast ideas...

Hiya all!

Hey, do you have any Royal Family and the Poor?
Avatar 10:19am Faye:

oh Cheri you gotta get it it's so awesome
  10:19am Ahmad:

At the risk of turning this into the DC music nerd board again, DCP: http://sashalord-presents.tumblr.com/
Avatar 10:21am dçþät:

hanx Ahmad.
  10:21am DF:

I so prefer this version of Walk the Dog to the album version!
Avatar 10:21am Cecile:

Wow, this takes me back.
Avatar 10:25am Cecile:

we used to just to quote lines from that first Laurie Anderson album at each other.
Avatar 10:26am Parq:

"Walk the Dog" takes me back to when I saw US Pt 1, 2, at BAM thirty years ago. Two nights, $35. That was considered an expensive ticket in those days. Amazing just to type it out, now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

cheerios, coffee, half&half

  10:30am Mark in the UK:

that Mistakes tune's a sweet nugget you've uncovered Faye. cheers!
Avatar 10:32am Faye:

it's a great one Mark!
Avatar 10:32am Van in DC:

The morning could be just filled with sax & violins and I would be happy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I can remember 1st time I heard '$100 ticket': Sting @ the Santa Barbara Bowl. Die Yuppie Scum!
...& the first time I saw a cellphone: In Montecito - the rich(er) town next to S.B. - a lady talking whilst in the supermarket. Oh seriously Lady - you need to blab & push a shoppingcart @ once! How times change...
  10:33am DryEraser:

Who has time to wait for breakfast delivery in the morning? Actually, I wish we all did - should be a human right or something like that. Also, smoked salmon on bread/bagel is sort of sweet sort of salty. Awesome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am cklequ:

@RevolutionRabbit..... Some of us still feel that way about cell phones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Andrew Waterloo:

Best chance of getting a breakfast like that is to put it in pill form
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Spatulator (formerly elwyn5150):

I bought this Petra Haden CD about 2 weeks ago. :-)
Avatar 10:37am Jennique:

I remember seeing the first corporate execs wearing cordless bluetooth headsets for their cellphones. At first I thought, "Wow, insanity knows no bounds." Then I realized that they were NOT talking wildly to themselves and it just made my blood boil.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Spatulator (formerly elwyn5150):

PS It's spelt "Haden" and comes from "Petra Goes to the Movies".
Avatar 10:38am nah:

DryEraser: if I could afford it I would also have the time
  10:38am DryEraser:

Some people don't like microbiotic diets. They enjoy chewing, tasting, smelling, you know, eating.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Oh - Delivery Time. Right.
...I love salmon, & it's very healthy depending on where it swam - but I don't eat anything w/ a Mom besides eggs anymore. Not eating seafood is the hard part.
- What could it be like in Petra's head?
Swag For Life Member 10:41am Ralphine:

Petra Haden, Pieta Brown, Neneh Cherry, and Norah Jones should form a girl group like Wilson Phillips did.
  10:43am DryEraser:

I phased out meat from my diet a while back and water creatures where supposed to be the last sentient thing to go. Fifteen years later it hasn't happen. Thank god fish don't cry!
Avatar 10:44am dçþät:

Petra Haden's head: [Mike Watt: record acapella versions of shit..]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Andrew Waterloo:

I remember when the blue tooth headsets first came out and you'd find classic nerdy guy in a long coat, sunglasses, a bluetooth headset, and serious look on their face while waiting for the bus.
  10:44am mikey g:

aww. 'been it'. takes me back to high school. thanks, faye!
Avatar 10:45am Cecile:

Jennique, I was thinking everyone had somehow gotten Tourette's and I was left out a la Day of the Triffids.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am Spatulator (formerly elwyn5150):

@ dçþät: I really liked Petra's cover of the entire album of "The Who Sells Out" and so did Pete Townshend.
Avatar 10:45am dçþät:

veggie here; started back in on fish here and there to make sure kids were getting everything needed...lame excuse maybe but mostly veggie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Sounds Kerazy Ralphine!
- & if it don't work (too many cooks?)
- hey! - girls...
...I don't even have the Petra Who album - & I'm Owl Chorus Wholigan nutty...
Avatar 10:46am dçþät:

@Spatulator: yessir, done on 4 track as well. Greatness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am efd:

fave Cardigans song
Avatar 10:46am Cecile:

This is the song Meredith Brooks's "Bitch" wanted to be, but failed completely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am Spatulator (formerly elwyn5150):

Petra goes to the Movies is probably my least liked of her works though.
Avatar 10:48am dçþät:

huh, the Men are kinda growing on me...
  10:48am DryEraser:

I once saw many people holding cell phone to their ear in public and imagined that there was an spontaneous outbreak of Bloody Ear Syndrome and people were simply cuffing their ears to prevent bleeding out.
Avatar 10:48am Jennique:

I have both Petra's Superman songs (The Planet Krypton & Superman theme).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am Greg from Bloomfield:

Really liking these "The Men"...
Avatar 10:49am dçþät:

@Ralphine: acturally, Petra is in a group with her sisters.. Haven't really listened to them though..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...from that richlady in Montecito to being back in New Hampshire & hillbillies w/ bluetooths...that is the arc.

- I worship Townshend but he is even so just one corner of The Who & kinda always wished he could be anything but a Guitarist in a RawkBand
- I guess like everyone wants to be in The Beatles - but The Beatles would like to Not Be...
Avatar 10:51am Faye:

heck yes efd!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Greg from Bloomfield:

Ooooooh, sorry efd & Faye. The correct answer was "Carnival"
Swag For Life Member 10:53am Ralphine:

Is the Haden sisters' group like the Lennon Sisters?
  10:58am Ahmad:

That The Men record is that bad? Thought the last one was a bit of a dropoff.
Avatar 10:59am BadGuyZero:

The new one does not rock as much as their past albums.
Avatar 10:59am dçþät:

"one corner of the Who?" Isn't he more the whole Who?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- Explain PhoneBooths to kids!...'They were for - *Privacy*'...that thing Zuckerberg says is overrated...

- Game my brain plays:
- Alt version Vs. Mainstream version:

Cardigans v. Raspberries
Elevators v. Dead
Dolls v. Aerosmith...
Avatar 11:02am dçþät:

I wish all cell phone users had a booth around them...all the time...forever.
  11:05am DryEraser:

I wonder if cellphone booths could be introduced and become a norm. Sounds like an expensive albeit a decent and decorative proposition.
Swag For Life Member 11:06am Ralphine:

I liked April March better when she was in the Shitbirds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Petey is sorta the Brain - Songwritertypey - but The (orig.) Who are like Four Elements. What was Keith Moon - ? Nuthin' - ?
...But I'm getting all self-conscious being all grandfather ClassicRock here already...they're givin' me funny loox from behind their mobiles...
- Yer great, Faye.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am tim from champaign:

I'm dubious about the new Men record for a shitty reason. Some folks at the rekkid store I part time at really like it but weren't interested in the previous Men records. I normally don't trust their opinions because they are pitchfork weenie rock types.
Avatar 11:11am dçþät:

yeah, what am I talking about?--major Keith Moon freak. I guess I meant songwriting-wise (outside of the Entwistle gems). Live 'twas a different story.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Carmichael:

Hi Faye and others of your ilk.
Avatar 11:15am Cecile:

tim, I'm in the same boat. When the people who don't like metal start liking a metal band, 90% of the time it means the jig is up for them creatively.
Avatar 11:15am Cecile:

I'm looking at you Mastodon and Lamb of God.
  11:16am DryEraser:

I read somewhere that public cellphone conversations are distracting because one hears only half the conversation and the mind is piqued into filling in the other half. So hearing only one side is more mentally taxing then being able to hear all sides in a conversation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am nickybones:

This Bare Wire track is the stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am tim from champaign:

Yeah, that's exactly what I was trying to get at, Cecile.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am Carmichael:

Bob Newhart would 2nd that, DryEraser.

Thanks for the interesting listen this morning Faye. The show is great!
Avatar 11:18am Faye:

Thanks DryEraser!
  11:19am bill:

Dryeraser that is absolutely true. A conversation has rhythm, like music. When you only hear half of it it's just maddening, rhythmless noise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am tim from champaign:

Hooray, newish Bare Wires album. Thanks Faye! I'm with you Nickybones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am nickybones:

First time I've heard 'em, tim! Time to rectify this ignorance. haha.
Swag For Life Member 11:20am Ralphine:

I like Mastodon. So, I think, does Diane (of Diane's Kamakaze Fun Machine).
Avatar 11:20am dçþät:

but there's also the distraction of actually being on the phone. For some reason it totally captures your attention, usually at the expense of anything else you should be paying attention to like, driving, walking, not being an asshole...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Andrew Waterloo:

It's like a baby crying. You're instinctually in line to respond to it.
Avatar 11:22am Cecile:

Ralphine, I love Mastodon. Up until two albums ago. Then they decided they were Pink Floyd.
  11:22am Ahmad:

Bare Wires had a lineup change and became Warm Soda. And then put out my favorite pop album of the year thus far off which I am pretty sure Faye played a track from last week. They are also phenomenal live.

I love when I overhear people talking on their cells in public where they are clearly lying - I have overheard dozens of men and women saying, basically: "no, hon.. I'm in Manhattan right now" when they're standing outside a bar in south Brooklyn. And I've managed to suppress the urge to yell "NO HE/SHE'S NOT!" so far..
Avatar 11:22am Jennique:

I am ALL FOR cellphone booths. One great place to go is the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. They have a pretty strict no cellphone use, and guards really cut people off until they stop. Wish I could have a personal guard around me doing that to the general public.

Avatar 11:22am dçþät:

huh...why instinctively? Why don't we just ignore the jerk on the line if we have to? is politeness instinctive? NAH..
Avatar 11:24am Cecile:

That's why God invented noise-reducing headphones. A first line of defense!
Avatar 11:24am dçþät:

Jennique: I was just in NYC museums and the thing the annoyed the living fuck out of me was everyone taking pictures. At MOMA people would walk up to an amazing painting, take a picture and walk away looking at the picture.
Avatar 11:25am dçþät:

seems like everyone has to filter the world through their phones now

I do the same thing, aaron in chicago.
Avatar 11:30am βrian:

This groove I can work with.
Avatar 11:30am Cecile:

dcp, the best way to look at a painting or sculpture is to go there with pencil and paper and sketch it. You REALLY see it then.
Avatar 11:31am dçþät:

Totally acceptable aaron, good job. I'm not saying taking pictures of paintings is wrong--it's just that 50 people with phones up in the air are in my way when I'm trying to look at brush strokes. Just look at the dang thing, whydon'tya?
  11:31am DryEraser:

I see students taking notes by taking images of the white/blackboard instead of writing stuff down. I guess it makes one less likely to lose one's notes. I first noticed this with business majors. God bless them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am tim from champaign:

To paraphrase Curtis from Up In Smoke: "This Bitchin' Bajas is going boogie woogie on my brain".
Avatar 11:32am dçþät:

BINGO Cecile--exactly what my daughter and I were doing. It takes us for ever to get through a museum.
Swag For Life Member 11:32am 12539:

The best way to look at a painting is to live with it. Which is not very practical, I know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Carmichael:

Someone at the grocery store in front of me was trying to check out while having an inane meaningless phone convo with the pinhead on the other end. People just glared at them, but I did the Andy Warhol trick: I stared at them without blinking until they got creeped out and left.
Avatar 11:33am dçþät:

..and also, the picture on your phone is not going to be any where close to the quality of 50, 100 pictures you can find on line.... ok I shut up now.

@Carmichael - I love the non-blinking technique. Must try my best Johnny Rotten stare. Although that doesn't always work. Best technique is to grab the phone out of the offenders hands and throw it in the river.
BTW: super LOVE Robyn Hitchcock. His recent live set on Irene's show was fantastic.

great show this morning, Faye
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- My Dad was a painter somewhere between Representational & Impressionist - I think his hero was Degas, but he didn't have Degas' insight into character: My Dad had mad technical skills, but not as much taste & imagination.
- & being When I was born & everyhting - I'm all about Modernism. I used to tell him he did 'Human StillLives' & really crappy things like that I would say...
- So I fianlly gets to Paris. & the Centre Georges Pompidou - the all inside-out lookin' building of Modern Art
- & it ain't much different from seeing repros in books:
- once you get the Idea w/ Modern stuff - that's pretty much It.
- But when I saw the Musee Dorsee (sp.??) - a lovely old railroad building
- w/ the Impressionist stuff
- it was totally different from seeing them in books - to have Van Gogh in yer face - w/ the paint raised from the surface, &tc.
- like: These are *Painters*...

I used to travel to NYC on business a LOT. Never knew of FMU back then. Had I, I would always have demanded the cab driver (lots & lots of cabs I rode in there) to put on FMU. GREAT free advertising for the station when the driver just leaves it on after my departure :)

Sad to say that now cabs in NYC have those automated tv screens, similar to airplanes, that blast at you unless you shut them off. Not much radio play in cabs, and all the drivers are on phones. BLAH. WFMU lives in so many other planes, it's all good.
