Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Thank for listening everyone! And THANK YOU for your generous support during WFMU's 2013 Marathon Fundraiser. What can I say that hasn't already been said about it. It truly was an historic one. It was my favorite Marathon so far, Until next year!

I hope you enjoyed the se Flea Market Finds. I really enjoy collecting them and playing them for you. They're not always stellar, but there's always brilliance hiding in there somewhere.

Anxious to do some meatier shows soon. I need to get back out there. It's coming. I need to get some sleep now. Work tomorrow and all that. Thanks for your continued support and for tuning in all the time. The FMU DJ's were just reminded of what great listeners we have. Join the Pigeonnaires on Facebook for inside information on the show. Twitter, too. Until next time. Take care and ... Always Remember ...

Welcome back!
Avatar 6:03pm Nate:

The Association! Nice one!
Avatar 6:04pm Nate:

Welcome Back CP!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Parq:

Clay, Association's Greatest hits was my first rock LP (I had started with a few comedy albums). "Enter the Young" was my favorite song from the album. God, my copy probably sounds like the surface of the moon these days.
  6:04pm Ralph:

No Cherish?
Avatar 6:04pm sFrances from VA:

Hello hello! & Congrats on great live Hoof set + marathon$$!
Avatar 6:04pm Clay Pigeon:

Thanks Nate, a proud Pigeonnaire!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Caryn:

Hi Clay! Guess I'll be looking out for you as your adoptive listener this year. Now, remember to eat your vegetables.
Avatar 6:04pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Let's get a dedicated Fabio/Clay hour from 5 to 6 already.
Avatar 6:05pm Clay Pigeon:

TY Frances. A Virginia song coming up later for you and Matt.
Avatar 6:05pm Clay Pigeon:

Did you really adopt me, Caryn? I thought no one did. Thanks!
Avatar 6:05pm Clay Pigeon:

Hey Pete. Good idea!
Avatar 6:06pm sFrances from VA:

Pete speaks the true utopia for the 5-6pm slot!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Caryn:

@Clay: well, only did it this Sunday, so right at the Marathon finish line. I couldn't leave you unattended :)
Avatar 6:08pm sFrances from VA:

@Clay: looking forward to seeing how Virginia gets represented. I've come to realize that tho I'm a native, I'm an Oregonian/Portland at heart.
Avatar 6:08pm Nate:

Groovy! Where did Steve go with his sound - weird? Why Abracadabra? This is wonderful!
Avatar 6:08pm Clay Pigeon:

Thanks so much Caryn, sincerely. You kept my streak alive!
Avatar 6:09pm Clay Pigeon:

He's a great singer and guitarist, Nate. Les Paul's Godson, for real!
Avatar 6:09pm Fredericks:

By far their best track! See, we musically agree, occasionally.
Avatar 6:10pm Cecile:

Hey, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Caryn:

Well, I'd wanted to adopt you for a while now. Finally managed to snatch you up this year!
Avatar 6:10pm Clay Pigeon:

Hi Fredericks. Thanks for the nice email. Agree. LOVE that Savoy Brown track.
Avatar 6:10pm Clay Pigeon:

Hi Cecile! Nice to see you.
Avatar 6:11pm Nate:

NO WAY - SO COOL! I bow to Les Paul Royalty! He is a great artist! Just wasn't that into the eighties stuff. . .
Avatar 6:11pm Clay Pigeon:

Thought you bailed on me after the Occupy drop-off Caryn. I'll be back out there soon. Miss the street.
Avatar 6:11pm Clay Pigeon:

Les Paul - Waukesha, Wisconsin
Steve Miller - Madison, Wisconsin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Matt from Springfield:

Every Listener's Song!

Hi Clay and Pigeonnaires!
Avatar 6:12pm Cecile:

Boz Skaggs was also from Madison. He and Steve Miller went out West around the same time, I thnik.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Caryn:

Oh, I wouldn't bail on you, Clay. I love the lighter, music-heavy episodes! Have just had to listen on the archives for a while, since Thursdays have been crazy.
Avatar 6:13pm Fredericks:

Always remember......: TO EAT YOUR VEGETABLES! Right Caryn?
Avatar 6:13pm Clay Pigeon:

Right Cecile, and their friend Ken Adamany became Cheap Trick's manager.

Hey Matt!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Caryn:

Exactly, Fredericks! Also: floss. And stretch after every one hour of DJing.
Avatar 6:14pm Nate:

Hiya Matt! Love Boz! I shudder in asking this, but is he still alive?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Matt from Springfield:

"University of MICHIGAN??! They accept Negroes now???!"

Actually they didn't drop "Negro" from US Census forms until just last year--some older blacks still self-referred as such, but the numbers are much lower now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Matt from Springfield:

Boz Scaggs--alive, AND performing!
Avatar 6:16pm steve:

"go into math or science"... best advice ever
Avatar 6:17pm Nate:

Hmm @Matt. . .I'm youtubing now for current performances. Is he the "blue eyed soul" guy?
Avatar 6:17pm Cecile:

has a kind of John Parr vibe to it, CLay.
Avatar 6:18pm Nate:

"I found you washed up on the beach"
Avatar 6:18pm Clay Pigeon:

Yes, Cecile. Jaguar was poppier than I'd have imagined. Pretty good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm Matt from Springfield:

@Nate: There are many "blue eyed soul guys" :) but Boz did "Lido Shuffle", "Lowdown", "Harbor Lights", "We're All Alone", "Look What You've Done To Me" and others.
Avatar 6:19pm Cecile:

anyway, see ya later.
Avatar 6:20pm sFrances from VA:

Have a great weekend, Cecile!
Avatar 6:20pm Clay Pigeon:

I was awaiting that moment, Cecile.
Avatar 6:20pm Clay Pigeon:

Always meeting someone, like Fabio.
Avatar 6:20pm steve:

Clay, you always find much better stuff at the nyc flea markets than i do!
Avatar 6:20pm Nate:

Holloway does a number called "Runaway" - WONDERFUL!
Avatar 6:21pm Clay Pigeon:

Well, I play them, Steve, if their duds or not!
Avatar 6:21pm Clay Pigeon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Matt from Springfield:

20 was before I had an office job! Before I graduated from university! And...before WFMU! That was right when I turned 24, in Apr 2009. There's the before, and the after, baby!
Avatar 6:22pm sFrances from VA:

Wow, one of my best friends back in Portland has been a nanny long enough to see her former kids graduate high school.
Avatar 6:22pm Clay Pigeon:

I was 20 in ... 1980.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Matt from Springfield:

@Clay: Baby cry sound effect---was that from a Donovan song? My guess.
6:23pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Oh my god, how long has there been a comments feature on the WFMU app?
Avatar 6:23pm sFrances from VA:

(just did the math on Matt & realize how ancient I am compared to my fellow Virginian)
6:23pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Oh my god, how long has there been a comments feature on the WFMU app?
6:23pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Oh my god, how long has there been a comments feature on the WFMU app?
Avatar 6:23pm Clay Pigeon:

Donavan probably used the same sound effect LP I did Matt. A very common one.
6:23pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Oh my god, how long has there been a comments feature on the WFMU app?
Avatar 6:23pm northguineahills:

20 was when I had my first taste of alcohol. However, I had tastes of many other things. Lets just say a little piece of paper in high school was my gateway that years later led me to alcohol.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Matt from Springfield:

@Frances: I've stated my age at various times, but don't worry...we're all older than someone! :)
6:24pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Avatar 6:24pm northguineahills:

Five months after my 21st bday, I was had my first real office job.
Avatar 6:25pm Nate:

@Pete I made that same mistake on the app. double posted
Avatar 6:25pm Cecile:

I like this song, too Clay. You should do it next year.
Avatar 6:25pm sFrances from VA:

I turned 20 in Aug 1983...( So Clay, feel free to give me any Tips to Turning 50 this year)

I moved out on my own at age 17, didn't even start college until I was 19 or 20....
  6:26pm dale:

evening clay! hudson valley in the house.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Matt from Springfield:

@Clay: Sound FX LP! "Library" tracks, those were used quite commonly! Donovan's "Song of the Naturalist's Wife" began with a baby's cry, a very guttural one like the one you played. So probably true!

In fact, the train crossing at the end of the Pet Sounds album came from an FX record from '58, which was probably a stereo novelty at the time (train crosses from one speaker to another).
6:26pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Sorry, the app is very laggy for me right now. I will never click submit more than once again. I promise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Caryn:

Oh dear, I'm ancient compared to Matt! Well, 6 years older.
Avatar 6:26pm Clay Pigeon:

Very Mick Ralphs tone from this 707 guitarist, with a little Luther Grosvenor thrown in.
Avatar 6:26pm Nate:

The deep snare. Popular in the eighties. This sound, that is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm G:

the widely known "app double tap"
Avatar 6:27pm Clay Pigeon:

Hi Dale. Good skiing at Plattekill last weekend. Anything up there now? Or, did it all melt?
Avatar 6:27pm Nate:

Right @G! Rite of iPhone App passage
Avatar 6:28pm steve:

oh man, i had some terrible office jobs in my early 20s... i dont miss that or college at all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: You're centuries old, at least in your knowledge of high and pop culture--so you've got a leg up on all of us! ;)
  6:28pm dale:

twenty was a long time ago - i have a feeling it was for most fmu personnel and listeners. some snow hanging in. but it's melty then refreezy, so very crystalline.
Avatar 6:28pm Clay Pigeon:

Some of the most fun jobs I've had were the worst actual jobs - dishwasher comes to mind.
Avatar 6:28pm northguineahills:

I'm 109 months older then Matt.
Avatar 6:29pm Nate:

The 707. Fret tap away: farm3.staticflickr.com...
Avatar 6:29pm northguineahills:

I hit my late 30s Saturday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Matt from Springfield:

@dale: Good way of putting in--very crystalline. Memories melt with time, and refreeze--the good times crystals, the bad times crystals remain. But, the ordinary living of life crystals just melt into water, and drain away...
Avatar 6:30pm Nate:

Swingin' number CP!
Avatar 6:30pm Clay Pigeon:

Happy Birthday, North Guinea!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Matt from Springfield:

Wow, Ellie G produced the Walker Bros!

@NGH: Happy belated Bday!
Avatar 6:30pm sFrances from VA:

I'm quickly realizing that the only person I'm *not* older than here is Clay. ;)
20 years ago I was 29 & had just moved to Berkeley,CA from Richmond,VA....
Avatar 6:31pm glenn:

aw, yer just a pup, frances. i'm fiddy two.
Avatar 6:32pm Clay Pigeon:

Wow, they still have the 'hearts.' Hi Glenn!
Avatar 6:32pm steve:

yeah i thought most people in the comments board were 40s - 50s
Avatar 6:32pm northguineahills:

(next Saturday), ambiguous verbal tense, sorry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: What's that in American years?...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm G:

that's 23 in centiyears
  6:33pm dale:

food service jobs are very ebb and flow, so you get adrenaline rushes.

@matt - don't make me get weepy, man!
Avatar 6:34pm glenn:

excellent mark farner channelling, clay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Matt from Springfield:

@steve: That seems like the average age for WFMU commenters (> 40), but that's because there's many of them. There's us youngins too, even (especially!) for Clay P, but not enough to bring down the average.
Avatar 6:34pm Clay Pigeon:

Thanks, Glenn. That was SO fun doing the Grand Funk.
Avatar 6:34pm Nate:

FREE JAZZ! Love this. . .
Avatar 6:34pm glenn:

ummm. i'm not sure what the current exchange rate is. i'm gonna say 54.
Avatar 6:35pm sFrances from VA:

aaaaw, Thanks, Glenn! I'm raising my Flying Dog beer in your general direction.

Happy Upcoming bday @NGH. Did you get hired? I'm almost done w/my first week at my new job. I'm a lowly cog that somehow has an office, not a cubicle! (same w/all the cogs). Next week I see if I can listen to WFMU while working....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Matt from Springfield:

@dale: Embrace your inner poet, brother!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Caryn:

Yay, sFrances! Great to hear that about your job and office!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: :)
The American number used to be somewhat lower, but in recent years we're kind of the same...
Avatar 6:37pm steve:

yup, that sounds about right matt.
Avatar 6:37pm Nate:

Electric Prunes - YES!!!
Avatar 6:38pm Nate:

Dig those Latin songs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Matt from Springfield:

CONGRATS Frances! :D

I'm finishing up the first week in my new office myself! (Week before was an orientation). I'm saddened that I haven't found a way to listen live :O but I have rigged a way to listen to Archives while working on another computer! :D
Avatar 6:38pm sFrances from VA:

thx, Caryn! 16th floor, window, swell view to take some angle office photos w/camera (all I really care about) , but most important: super nice, super welcoming people. I feel *very* lucky & I'll get to have lunch weekly w/one of my best friends that I've known since we were college students here in our...twenties!
Avatar 6:38pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

20 was about halfway for me (so far). I have a lot of stock-taking going on in light of an upcoming round number. What was true at twenty and is true now is the regular mistake of assuming the best opportunities are behind me. You'd think I'd learn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Matt from Springfield:

Love those Prunes, and the Easy Rider soundtrack.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Matt from Springfield:

Joe MCGASKO's song!!! Wall of Voodoo RAWKS!!!
Avatar 6:39pm Nate:

Psychedelic Latin
Avatar 6:40pm sFrances from VA:

@Matt: yeah, I haven't checked yet, WFMU /any internet radio might be blocked. Worst case: I can do podcasts on my ipod shuffles....

One of my coworkers was blasting some Prince, so I think I might have to institute Friday Office Dance Parties in my office.
Avatar 6:40pm Clay Pigeon:

I need more Pigeonnaires! Nate ... explain how.
Avatar 6:40pm Nate:

B-B-Q'd Iguana, anyone?
  6:41pm dale:

congrats to the job newbies - always exciting time. rebirth, possibilities...
Avatar 6:41pm Clay Pigeon:

Twitter is the hardest. I have so little to say. I'm not a verbose man.
Avatar 6:41pm sFrances from VA:

@Pete: I've always lived in fear of living in the past/idealizing the past, to the point where I almost leave it like path in flames burning behind me to light the way towards an ever awesomer future....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Matt from Springfield:

@Frances: Like Sirius "Saturday Night Safety Dance"--only "Friday Office Dance Party" for you!
Avatar 6:41pm glenn:

hahaha. not verbose?
Avatar 6:42pm sFrances from VA:

@Clay: Twitter at 140 characters is perfect for non-verbose. THink of it as zen communiques.

I'd love to see you post a Vine now & then....
Avatar 6:43pm northguineahills:

@sFrances: I'm actually still waiting for that one, but right now I', filling out an application for another opportunity right now (and have another one in my inbox I'm about to complete). Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Matt from Springfield:

@Nate: 2 of the all-time best rhymes in a rock song in "Mexican Radio".

"I understand - just a little! / No comprende, it's a riddle"!

"I wish I was in - Tijuana / Eating barbecued iguana"!! :)
Avatar 6:43pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I don't fear the past -- in fact, I think of it as a rich appendage of background for understanding the ever-evolving "right now" (I have to justify that history degree somehow).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Caryn:

Hmm, at 20, I was in my 2nd year of college, and 2nd year of living in my first solo apartment. Teaching, and working for the city and the government one at a time. Huh, I was rather busy then.
Avatar 6:44pm Clay Pigeon:

Virginia tune for Matt and Frances!
Avatar 6:44pm Bad Ronald:

Hey dropped in late but the prog is flowing nice one Clay! @ Matt from Springfield - Wall of Voodoo!
Avatar 6:44pm Nate:

The Pigeonnaires are an open reader group but if you want to contribute go here: www.facebook.com... and click the member link. Post what you'd like, just try to make it as close to what the show would be like. . .unlike myself. . .I'm all over the place. Clay would love to have you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey Virginia!! Thanks Clay!
Avatar 6:44pm steve:

ngh i may have asked you this half a dozen times before but what field do you work in?
Avatar 6:44pm sFrances from VA:

@Dale: thank you, comrade!
@Matt: Sirius. Ha. I worked for XM Satellite in DC before they even launched their first rocket. Strange times. I didn't see where Satellite radio would be worthwhile considering internet radio, etc & that was in 2000-2001 that I felt that way.
Avatar 6:45pm sFrances from VA:

Virginia touching dance party!
Avatar 6:45pm Nate:

Twitter is stream of conscience @Clay. Don't think, just rattle stuff off. . .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm Matt from Springfield:

@Ronald: Check this Archive, another Wall of Voodoo was playing earlier!
Avatar 6:45pm northguineahills:

@steve: I usually do Geographical Information Sciences. Most opportunities are in burbs, unfortunately.
Avatar 6:46pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Everything's the past, a moment from now.
Avatar 6:46pm steve:

Nate: i think there's a spelling error in there, this one works: www.facebook.com...
Avatar 6:46pm Nate:

Is it ok to add some fellow DJs on Piggeonnaires? I could mention something on the Ichiban group page?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Matt from Springfield:

@Frances: It's certainly a lot of expensive infrastructure that only really benefits drivers. That's the reason why the Sirius/XM merger was allowed by the antitrust lawyers - it's already a limited market.
Avatar 6:47pm Nate:

Ah yes! Thanks @Steve! Fat fingers. . .
Avatar 6:47pm Clay Pigeon:

Bring 'em on, Nate!
Avatar 6:47pm Bad Ronald:

Sweet, thanks!

Avatar 6:49pm Clay Pigeon:

Hi Deb, and welcome. Sorry I've yet to respond to your email. Listeners, Deb wanted to know other FMU shows to dig if she likes Dusty. ?
  6:49pm dale:

Hi Kitty!
Avatar 6:50pm Clay Pigeon:

Hi Marmalade Kitty! Nice 2cu.
Avatar 6:50pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Clay, with these recorded shows you occupy the odd role of audience member to your own show. It makes me picture a hypothetical Bugs Bunny cartoon with him sitting in the front row of his own play.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Matt from Springfield:

OMFG YES!!! Leonard Nimoy's album!! :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Caryn:

Hey, I bought this for a boyfriend of mine years ago!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Matt from Springfield:

"Ballad of Bilbo Baggins", man!!! *lighter*
  6:51pm Marmalade Kitty:

been listening while cooking.. the chicken was as tough as boots :(
Avatar 6:51pm Pine:

Ah the clocks changed I'm late!
Avatar 6:51pm Clay Pigeon:

Pete, it does allow me to interact on the Accumatic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Caryn:

@Matt: the music video for "Ballad of Bilbo Baggins"? Classic.
Avatar 6:51pm Clay Pigeon:

It's OK Pine. Better late than ever!
Avatar 6:51pm northguineahills:

Pigeonaires isn't a disease recognized by the AMA, yet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: A partner who would like that is a good partner for a WFMU-er to have!

When I hear a song Leonard's sung, usually "If I Were A Carpenter", "If I Had A Hammer" or "Abraham Martin and John", I like to say: "This is a good song. But I like the original by Leonard Nimoy better." :)
Avatar 6:53pm sFrances from VA:

@Matt: just sent you an email, vivanow is me.

Other shows for Clay fans: I really love Benjamin Walker's Too Much Information, if you're looking for a non-music show.
Avatar 6:53pm Nate:

Post something fun! I don't want to be a "Post Hog" as the kids say. It's a thrill. Don't be shy.
Avatar 6:53pm Clay Pigeon:

I am way into Zebra right now (see CC5). They are on the Yes "Cruise to the Edge" ocean cruise with UK and lots of other prog bands. It's in April. I want to go so bad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Matt from Springfield:

@MK: Sorry to hear that! Is there any sauce you can put on it?

In fact, I was shredding leftover chicken during the Fabio/Clay crossover, but I've been letting it soak in korma sauce before heating it after the show.
Avatar 6:54pm Droll:

[short luring break]
CP, I watched the video you pointed me to and you were right! Thanks for airing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Caryn:

@Matt: in return, he bought me a brooch shaped like the Enterprise. We were a good match.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Matt from Springfield:

@Clay: UK!! Danne D probably wants to go on that too! :)
Avatar 6:55pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

Hi, Clay. Good to see you again at the Hoof. Great performance.
Avatar 6:55pm Clay Pigeon:

Droll, thanks. Glad you're here. THANKS FOR MARATHON YOU GUYS!!! You were and are incredible people. Gotta go, Andy's here. Take care and ... Always Remember.
Avatar 6:55pm Nate:

Killer studio delay on this cut!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Caryn:

Bye, Clay! Always remember... to wash your hands before eating. Just looking out for my adoptee.
Avatar 6:58pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I think Seven Second Delay is my closest other favorite to the Dusty Show. Different, but equally good-natured and extemporaneous.
Avatar 6:58pm sFrances from VA:

Always remember & have a swell weekend, y'all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Matt from Springfield:

Lovely, Caryn!

Thanks Clay! Love your Flea Market Finds - the FMFs!
Always Remember...20...
Avatar 6:58pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

And I think the worst Andy Breckman dishes out is still good-natured at the heart of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Frances and Caryn and everyone! Have a great night!
  7:00pm Marmalade Kitty:

the mushrooms were good.. Curry! thats an idea Matt!
Avatar 7:00pm steve:

i love SSD, but it took a while to get used to Andy's abrasive anti-humor... whereas i was into Clay the first moment i heard him (i remember it weirdly clearly, spring 2006)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm Caryn:

Night, all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm Matt from Springfield:

@MK: Mushrooms are usually great to add, and moisten up meats too! Best of luck with your cooking! :)
Avatar 7:04pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

The 7SD shows used to fail more spectacularly than they do now, and Andy's attitude was appropriate as both cause and effect. He seems a little impotent when the shows go well these days. But no fear, failure is always around the corner.
  7:07pm Marmalade Kitty:

Great show Clay! Goodnight folks
  7:27pm William:

Come on and close that playlist so we can get this on our mp3 players for the morning commute back into HELL!
